I'm pregnant with my first one. I'm due Halloween! 😳 I am 14 weeks and it has been so easy. No sickness and baby is growing perfectly. I'm so happy for you that baby is growing perfectly and having a healthy pregnancy.

  • @Lucinda_Jackson
    @Lucinda_Jackson 2 года назад +28

I love that you wait till the baby makes his or her appearance to learn the gender. It was relatively new technology when I had my daughter in 1984 and literally EVERYONE was crazed with finding out if they were having a boy or a girl. (Of course, at that time there were a fair number of mistakes and boys who went home to frilly pink rooms and girls who went home to sports themed blue ones! 😂) People would become actually ANGRY with me over my decision to wait - and we’re talking about people who should have zero opinion, like co-workers, the checker at the grocery store, etc! Thank goodness that has calmed down some and people are ready to see that as a choice rather than a necessity. I am so happy to see you feeling much better, even if not 100%) and to hear that things are perfect with the baby. 💕💕

Yes! 🤣🤣🤣 And all the old wives’ tales come out - except nobody can remember exactly how they go! Most of them are weird things you’ve never heard before! They speculate on the size of your bump, the shape of your bump, whether it’s high or low…but they don’t remember exactly what any of those things mean. Then there’s the ever popular needle on a string held over your palm. If it swings back and forth, it’s a girl and if it swings in a circle, it’s a boy - or is it the other way around? I had people get into heated arguments over that as I just walked away! They all had pretty good odds of being right at 50%!

Good morning Kim! I’m in Canada and I had natural births with both my boys with a midwife in the hospital and was lucky enough that our hospital policy is that we have to stay a minimum of two hours after birth! I was so thankful to be able to have the security of birthing in the hospital but also the luxury of being able to be at home with my newborns.

I have a 15 year old daughter and lost 2 babies through miscarriage, so I don’t have the extensive experience you have giving birth or those few weeks with a new-born. For me, combating post-partum (I've 3 kids, teens now... don't get me started, it never ends) involved finding a community of moms. The infant massage and music classes are worth the money - not for the baby (s/he doesn't care) but for the MOM. I still have 7 incredibly close friends from my eldest's baby massage class. She's 18 now. That group met weekly for a decade...

And I delivered both my babies naturally at a hospital (I was induced with my son 20 hr labor! and went on my own with my daughter 15hr labor) I definitely plan on going naturally again (non-medicated) love the whole experience and being in control of my body! I love laboring in the dark with minimal noise so I can focus on moving the pain from the contraction to a thought (if that makes sense lol) ! I’m so excited !! Kimberly, I really enjoyed your Q&A today! and laughed so hard at your 'Postpartum brain' story, you see I can laugh because i have lived through raising two daughters by myself and lived to tell the stories!! Yes, it is true we can live several years with sleep deprivation and live to tell (and not even be embarrassed one bit) and most importantly, our children will survive. Best advise i received from my Dr before i left the hospital was to not listen to anyone, just sleep when the baby sleeps, feed when she wants to feed, and soon you both will fall into a perfect schedule, and we did, second daughter not so much...oh well. You see, they give you so much joy at all different times in their lives and all different ways and now i am blessed with 5 beautiful grandchildren! overloaded with blessings and joy! You are as well, and I know you are well aware of that. You are a beautiful mom. Love your pregancy vlogs and your cooking videos as well. Thank you!

Hey Kim have been watching you ever since your pregnancy with Meredith. Thank you for being so down to earth and honest. I, too, put on so much weight during pregnancy and it took me only 9 months the first child to get back to my pre pregnancy weight, but I never got back to it with my second or third child. Your views on pregnancy, postpartum and childbirth are refreshing! Also, wow, I never knew placemtal encapsulation could help prolonged bleeding. I bled 10 weeks plus, on an off, with all 3 of my babies! My doctors would tell me its probably just my perjod but I would digress. It never felt or smelt like a period, ifykyk! Somebody once told me that women with low iron levels could suffer from this, and I think this is the reason why this happens to me. I wish I knew placental encapsulation could help as I would have done it. Too late now!

I am so happy to hear that your sweet little one is doing great. I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering with nausea and other pregnancy issues. I was sick my entire pregnancy with baby 2. Yet there was a 3rd baby. They were all C-section deliveries due to cephalopelvic disproportion. I had no one to help me with babies 1 and 2 postpartum. Baby number 3rd my husband was able to take three days off. My oldest daughter was so scared to have her first baby. I kept telling her that her 5' 9" slender frame was going to deliver her baby just fine. I told her not to worry herself because the nurses and doctors will get her through it. She delivered a beautiful baby girl without a hitch. The first thing I asked her an hour after delivery was how she felt about it. She told me it went fantastic. She did ask for an epidural close to the end because she was afraid to feel her exit. I was so proud of her. You have such a fantastic outlook on pregnancy and post partum. It doesn't do your pregnant friends or kids any favors by freaking them telling them traumatic situations.

My daughter's name is Chloe-Maree but I kept on calling her Linda for some reason, and if I woke from a nap I would call her Rita (my sister's name). But the funniest was when I went to the doctor and I couldn't remember my new married surname. OMG Kim, you are a Godsend to me. your videos have been a huge highlight in my life for the past 3 years ever since I stumbled on your channel. I found out I'm 3 weeks pregnant 2 weeks ago, and my only thought has been I can do this it's ok, Kim is here with me she's going to teach me. I'm 34 so I'm a little late in the game. I appreciated every bit of knowledge you are willing to share with us and I was taking notes, there's so much I don't know.

I love being a mom. My baby girl is 13 months. But I had horrible post partum depression and ptsd. I got to ten cm before they had a chance to give me an epidural. So if anyone is reading this and going through that, please get help. EMDR and my family and my faith got me through it. But spend time bonding with your baby the best you can and know YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS I promise. You are strong and you can do this!!

My daughter is expecting number 7 in June. I love them all but I have had a crib in my house for 11 years now! I feel I need to update my crib. I care for her babies 2 days a week while she does her office hours and sees clients. She is a CedRD. She homeschools them the other days. 🤪my son has two so this will be my 9th grand baby. They are both in town. Papa and I see them all frequently and help when needed and love to have them here for play dates. I wouldn’t trade these years for a billion dollars. Love, love my grandbabies

My first was an emergency C-section I was 17 and no one believed me that I was in labor for the past 48 hours so to save my boy and make sure he came into the world safely I was rushed into surgery. Shortly after I had a nurse joke with me saying “eh At least you’re still tight” wtf? Who says that and frankly I would do absolutely anything to have a natural vaginal birth, it will never happen for me ever and it sucks but I have three happy and healthy children. This is the one woman that doesn’t make me feel like a birthing failure! ♥️

The best advice I got when I had my first was.......
The baby is going to cry a lot, if they aren't hungry, wet, or sick it is ok to let them cry. Don't think you have to pick them up every time they cry or you will set yourself up to be holding baby 24/7 and never get time for you or the rest of the family. You need time to heal and get used to having a baby in the house as well as baby getting used to being out of the womb.
My babies are 37,36,and 32 years old and I am still not down to my pregnancy weight. I have also had toxemia with my pregnancies. With my first at 20 I lost 82 pounds by the 5th month and gained 120 by the time he was born, with the 2nd I didn't have toxemia but he was 6 weeks late and the old-time farm doctor I had said "he will come when he is ready". Then with my daughter I had to move apartments up 1 floor and into a 3rd floor apartment so I got a great work out, that I shouldn't have been having because I had just given birth and had my tubes tied. My husband at the time refused to help so I had to do it all with 2 toddlers and a newborn fresh from surgery two days before. I blew out the stitches from the tubal, but I got it all done and survived so I guess that means I am a pretty tough cookie.

Take some advice from others but always remember that they will teach you what they need.
Also, gas drops were sent from above and helped both our babies!
We did not sleep train but we only kept a little night light on, did not turn a big light on, and did not talk to baby when they woke in the night. We went in kindly and took care of them gently but we only changed their diaper and fed them and they both turned out to be good sleepers.

One thing especially new moms do is always think something is wrong if baby is hungrier, less hungry, more or less tired, grumpy, etc. It's often forgotten that they are humans too, and just like us and all other humans, we have days grumpy, more or less hungry, want more or less sleep, etc. I was a young mom mentor and found when they understood that and had that perspective, they didn't panic over every little thing, and less stress makes for a calmer and happier mom.

My son turned 21 in February, he’s my only child. Yes, I wanted more children, but that wasn’t in the cards for me. There is so much I didn’t know back then, I was 23 yrs old when he was born. I was still young, a kid myself. Although I thought I had it all together, I didn’t. I had a C-section for failure to progress & preeclampsia. I was a mess that day, anxiety, stress, fear, anticipation that I didn’t cope with very well at all. I was worried about my son being safe. Although I thought I was prepared, we took prenatal classes/breastfeeding classes/newborn care classes, when the day came, I wasn’t prepared. I had graduated nursing school in 1997 (almost4 yrs prior), had done maternal fetal medicine rotation in school. Also worked at a gyn/ob practice my first year of employment . I knew a bit, but not nearly enough. I wish I had a doula, the support of a doula would have helped me SO much. Although my ex-husband was the most supportive that day, more than he was in our entire marriage, it was such a blessing to have his support and encouragement, he was truly wonderful. The day my son came into this world is the best day of my life. It was such a rough day, an emotionally and physically exhausting day, but I look back at it fondly. My son is the reason I am here. Hearing his first sounds, then seeing such a beautiful baby were moment in my life I will never ever forget. I will never forget that moment or the moment when my dad passed while I was holding his hand in the same hospital 11 years later. Some moments stick with us for the rest of our lives. Nothing will ever compare to the joy of having a baby, it’s stressful but the absolute best job in the world. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Mistakes will be made, we are human. Love them, teach them to be kind individuals, read to them, sing to them, laugh with them, take time for them, express your love for them every chance you get. There will be stress along the way, parenting is incredibly challenging. They grow up WAY too fast! Then they are a semester away from graduating college…
I wish encapsulation was more known back in 2000/2001, I had no idea about it. I have struggled with depression throughout my life. I had a really difficult time after my son was born. Breastfeeding was difficult for us and I pumped and fed for 18 months. I tried and tried and we couldn’t get the hang of latching on correctly. I tried everything I could find to try. I felt like less of a mom for feeding him my breast milk from a bottle. He got the benefit of my breast milk, I needed to give myself grace and not be so hard on myself. The first few weeks, he needed some supplementation with formula. I was so upset at myself for not producing enough nourishment for him. He was getting the nutrients he needed, that’s what truly matters. Having a couple bottles didn’t harm him. At 21, he’s not upset with me because of it. Again, give yourself grace. You are human, perfection isn’t reality. Do the best you can and do ask for help if you need it. Take that offer to hold baby while you take a shower, wash your hair, and enjoy those few minutes of your shower!
Best of luck to you! Thank you for reading this. I’m sorry for my book. 😊❤️

Put my child between the bucket seats in the carry all. Used cloth diapers also. I bought 5 sleepers in white and yellow. Two draw string baby gowns. Undershirts (3) a pack of socks, a pack of umbilical covers and (2) sheets. That's it! I made out fine and my baby was happy and content.Kept him in a bassinet for (3) months next to me and then transferred him to his crib (used)! Now days mother's buy so much and that's fine, but really you can do just fine with bare nessities. Wash a lot more....but that's okay! Just thought I'd share . ❤️🤗
