Rescuers crawl through TINY gap to rescue a sick fox!

- Fox cubs often find themselves in very odd places, but this particular rescue proved quite tricky!
Simon and Lawrie were recently called out to rescue a mangey fox cub that had been sighted in a shopping centre carpark. Unfortunately, once they arrived, the fox has gone to ground underneath a VERY heavy rubbish compactor, and Lawrie has no option but to crawl in after it!

"This is a net. Please get in it." 😆
If only it was that easy!
Hahaha, if only!
You’re a hero, Lawrie!
Thank you Rebecca! Your videos are awesome :)
The definition of courage is being scared and doing what you need to do anyway. Lawrie is courageous. Well done.
Thank you! :)
I love how you gently introduce them back to the wild
When I think "they're only saving a few animals, won't make much difference", I realize that in fifty years there's a good chance that all of the wild animals of the species they rescue will have had one or more ancestors that were rescues.
True. And it's like the old story about the starfish. It makes a difference to that one.
Exactly. I've done a lot of rescuing starfish who get stranded on the beach by the outgoing tide. Sometimes there are 100 at a time. My husband will say, "You'll never be able to get them all back in the water before they expire. You can't make that much difference". And I respond, as I gently toss one back into the sea, "I made a difference to that one". And soon there are people joining us in our efforts, and we save them all! There are animal rescuers all over the world. If we all do our part, we CAN make a difference! (I live on he Atlantic coast of the USA).
Lawrie: "I don't do tight spaces"
2:24: You're about to...
If there are others, I didn't even see a hint of them.
MUCH respect to Lawrie in particular for this one, just watching the footage of him under that container had me feeling anxious.
And such a massive improvement for the poor cub after the rescue and release. Thank you so very much, Wildlife Aid.
Good spot! (no other ones in there!)
Lawrie did a great job going underneath the compactor - we all felt anxious watching it too! Thanks for all your support :)
I'd be anxious too. I'm not claustrophobic per se, but being underneath that machinery all dark and dirty is not a space I'd want to crawl into. Though, if it were in trying to rescue a fox, I think I'd be able to work myself to do it.
OMG there’s no way I could do this. The claustrophobia!! 😬 I worry about you all. Edit: thanks for saving the cub!
Thanks for the support Hannah! It certainly was a scary one...
In case of a life that is in danger, you would do the strangest things to save that life and without thinking about it .
That warmed my heart 🤗 Thank you Simon, and especially Lawrie, for saving these lovely foxes.
Thank you for all your support :)
Lawrie, Always Willing to be tortured to save an Animal in Distress. You're A Good Man 💙
Haha thanks very much :)
@Wildlife Aid Aww, you’re Welcome 😊
My Goodness Lawrie, How on Earth did you get under there. I'm always amazed at your Courage Dear ❤️ The look on Simon's face when he said "We know who's going under there" was pretty funny.
Well, Lawrie, at least you didn't have to climb a tree this time. :D
That cub really looked pitiful. The effects of the recovery over just one week was spectacular, and a real pleasure to witness! :)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I know right? The video of Laurie climbing that tall, talk tree gave me the vapors, lol.
Brilliant job everyone as always. All foxes are very cute but her little face is beyond adorable.
Thank you Lake! We agree, she was very cute :)
Lawrie, that was above your pay grade. You and Simon deserve a big round of applause for your dedication to the wildlife. Thank you.
Thanks for all your support Cheryl :)
Huge well done Laurie! I hope Simon treated you to a cuppa and a biscuit at least
Haha, don't worry, we ave lots of tea at the centre! :D
You have NEVER given up, all the years I have watched, you have never given up 😇😚😇
We always try our best to ensure every animal gets saved :)
I wish all animals got help like this! :(
Speaking as someone with claustrophobia and arachnophobia, Lawrie you are an amazing human being! You have my undying admiration for your bravery in this one!
Thank you for the support!
Me too.
That's dedication! Lawrie, you're a star! :-)
Thank you!
That must have been so scarry for the poor little one. Thank you for getting him or her out.
So much difference in just a short time, he had fur when he left. Glad, he didn't have to go alone, but had a friend.
Well done Lawrie that must have been very unpleasant, to say the least. Love to all of you.
He was left with a few cuts a bruises for sure! Thanks for the support :)
Simon and Lawrie: one amazing team! ( and two cuties!) I have immense respect for what they do.
Thank you very much!
you absolutely have the most humane and thought out ways of treating each case, on a case by case basis. you see every animal as an individual, and you do everything you can to make all of their lives better. i love you guys so much!!
Thank you Danielle!
These foxes are so tiny compared to the ones where i live, the foxes in Canturbury are the size of bike wheels :)
These foxes are cubs from this year, so are only approx. 6 months old. Also, this cub was very underweight when she came in due to the circumstances in which she was found! Maru fed her lots of nutritious food though, and she'll continue to be fed high quality food at the release site, until she is ready to fend for herself :)
I'm glad Simon has Lawrie and a new generation of passionate rescuers to handle the more physically demanding aspects of rescues like this one. At 72 I have had to accept that I can't do the things I used to do.
Amazing rescue...kudos to Lawrie...I've never been that worried about tight spaces, but not sure I could've gone under there like that...I think this rescue really represents everyone at their very best, thank you.
Thank you for your support :)
Omg please be safe guys, watching this made me so nervous. 😣❤
Thankfully, Lawrie got out of this in one piece!
What a job to do this rescue and then film it too, holy cow! Tough rescue for sure. Well done, Lawrie! You are a boss!!
The soft release and relocation of City Cub was wonderful to see! Great work Simon and Lawrie! Thank you.
poor fox cub! So beautiful that u helped him and released him in a green area!! Amazing
Thanks for the support :)
Thaaaank you!!!
I wish, I'm able to better understand your language. It's hard for me, to understand the dialoges. But I can SEE wonderfull work. Love from a little hedgekokstation...with 4 hedgehokbabies in the moment...in Germany, Niedersachsen
Thank you for all your support Uta! We're glad you can still enjoy our videos, even if there is a slight language barrier :) Good luck with the hedgehog babies!
@@wildlifeaid ❤️
And now, here are 14 hedhehog babys and - teens. Unbelievebal! What' s wrong?😬
The tight space would ‘t have freaked me out. Being in the tight space with my face so close to a sharp-toothed cornered fox who means no harm but is scared...now that is where I would get freaked.
Yeah that was my reaction. I don't mind tight spaces, (heights are my fear), but flat on my stomach with my face close to a cornered frightened fox...terrifying. Kudos Lawrie.
Oohh you made a good film opener! In all seriousness, a job extremely well done. That does not look comfortable, and the work you do is probably one of the most versatile there is. Just amazing people!! 🥰🌲
Thank you for all your support!
Yes ❣well done guys💕 these releases really lift my spirits
Thank you!
Way to go guys
Thanks Bella!
You nor me, Lawrie, with the tight spaces.
Awhh the poor fox 🦊🐾

Off course I like your video! Great job! Keep saving lives...
Simon's grin when he said "well we know who's doing that now don't we?"😂
Great Offer, Great Job, Big Thank You!!!
Thank you Olga!
Very well done, Simon and Lawrie!!!
Thank you Elisabeth!
Laurie deserves a super big thank you for rescuing this fox cub!
Thank you very much! :)
Good heaven's he could barely open his eyes when you first got hold of him and I can imagine the smell. Poor thing. What a change when you released the two of them.
Thank you for saving the foxes.
I love how Simon volunteers Lawrie for all the best jobs lol
Great work as always guys and thanks for the upload
One of the best videos y'all have put out in a while! Thanks so much for all you do!

This was the first wildlife aid video i watched, a year later it’s safe to say I’m now obsessed!
awesome work
Thank you :)
You're amazing Lawrie! To put away your fear like that and just dive right in takes a lot of heart and courage. I'm glad you were able to save the little guy and hopefully, he'll do better out in the countryside than in the city.
Thank you Amanda!
Yes, a bad case of mange without doubt. Well done Lawrie pays to be skinny sometimes eh? Simon your experience is priceless. Love you both for what you do. xx
Thanks for all your support!
Aren't they beautiful? 🥰
They are indeed!
You guys are wonderful to be so kind and help poor animals in need. Thank you. ❤️
Thanks so much for the support :)
Awesome job guys, thank you. Lawrie especially, that was damn brave of him to crawl under there!
Thanks so much!
What a wonderful job they do all the time. Angels.

thank you for this 10 min video! loving these longer vids!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a wonderful rescue . Good job Laurie you and Simon make a terrific rescue team ( Heard it on the jungle drums that the foxes agree and are impressed at with your agility ..) Great work ..👍🦊🦊
Thanks so much :)
Good thing Lawrie doesn't have claustrophobia.
I always hated crawling under tight spots, I nearly got stuck once in a cave.
The team here at WAF aren't quite sure how Lawrie managed it...but we're very thankful he did!
Hallelujah!!! Thank-you. You all are amongst our world's UNSUNG heroes: Humans at their very best! More so than animal, humankind is in your debt. Praying for your ability to keep up your good works and instructive videos per heightened global community fiscal support. Blessings, always!
Thanks so much, what a lovely comment :)
Me watching this one like "Sorry foxy, you live here now." No way I'm going under that crap.
This is what he wants to do and gets paid to do. He’s done harder and dirtier stuff.
Love that they do a soft release with the fox cubs.
"Here I'll carry the net out for you!" Very helpful little foxy!
England super civilizated country to have men like you to care wild folks. Fm France
OMG, what a hero!! ♥️♥️ Most people would be too scared to even contemplate doing what he went and did! Great team work yet again. These stories of rescue and hope are so heartening. Thanks for all you do for our animal friends in distress. Moving to the country was definitely an upgrade for that little fox 😃
Thanks so much :)
Amazing rescue and result! Just look how well that sorry looking cub is. Im delighted. Thank you to all involved in the rescue and rehabilitation. Have a happy life wee foxies.
Thanks so much :)
A healthy Fox is a handsome sight ! A part of our the ecosystem !
Thanks very much!
Poor cub looked absolutely miserable, imagine he feels much better now. Wish we had a wildlife rescue nearby but I don't really know of any.
Lawrie you are amazing!
Thank you Rachel!
Lawrie is pretty darn cute
The moment when they see the small gap and Simon says “whelp we know who’s going in there” is comedy gold
Brilliant human beings right here ...bless you for helping this beautiful creature
Thank you!
Whelp, Lawrie can't say his work isn't occasionally "trashy" now. 😁
It's a wonder Lawrie didn't brain himself on the underside of the compactor.
He definitely came close!
Aww he's adorable, you guys are amazing!
Thanks so much :)
Damn Lawrie! Well done!!!
Thank you!
This gave me 😢😢 of joy at the end. Thanks Team WAF!!! And may l add what an amazing addition to that Team Lawrie us!!! You've trained him well Simon 😉 so when you finally? hang up your rescuing 🎩 l know that the rescues will be left in safe hands ☺ xxxx
Given that Laurie is pretty much always climbing up in the air somewhere, this scenario is like his polar opposite
These fox babies are so cute and fortunately you were at the good time and good area to save them 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great job! So glad he gets to become a rural fox, instead of an urban one! 🦊
Thank you :)
Lawrie is the best. He works so hard!
Thanks very much!
Awesome work! when I'm 18 I'll support you.
Thank you Simon :)
Well done you are all wonderful!
Oh my, I applaud you!! I'm in the dictionary under Claustrophobic and it was very hard to watch Lawrie go under there !!! So very well done!!! Excellent job.
7:58 D'awwwwwwwwww... Such a cute boy.. even with the manged fur..
As someone who has problems with tight places, this felt horrible, and just by watching,.... I have so much respect and am so thankful for what you do, ... considering the time, that I have no money and live in a different country, I think I really want to buy you guys a big pint 🍻 or wine 🍷 please keep on going and sharing 😊👍🏻
Edit: look at that tiny youngling 7:51 look at this tiny scared kit 🦊
Thank you for all your support! :) She was very small wasn't she!
What a great rescue! I am also very happy the cub got released in the country.
Thanks so much :)
What a great rescue! Thank you people!

Agreed!

To me Lawrie - To you Simon - lol great rescue
Haha thank you :)
It's amazing how much you will do for these animals!
We think all animals deserve a second chance!
@@wildlifeaid So true!
That was nice. great job under the dumpster!
Thank you! :)
That fox was still a bit skinny. Let's hope that they will be ok.
She was fed lots of high-quality, nutritious food whilst at Wildlife Aid and will continue to be fed at the release site for as long as she needs. That way, she'll continue to gain weight. It's important to get wild animals back to their natural environment, as soon as it's safe and sensible to do so :)
@@wildlifeaid could it be that our cities have become some sort of natural environment for them, since large parts of europe are not natural anymore, but cultivated land? Not to mention that we have moved around animals since the days of the roman empire. Should we let foxes live inside, and adapt to, urban areas, or are there only downsides for them and us?
@@ABW941 There are no downsides for humans and foxes are fully integrated with urban life in much of England.
@@ABW941 Like Peter D said, foxes are integrated with urban life in England. They mentioned they usually release urban foxes back where they found them, but this one wasn't doing well, so they released it elsewhere. Normally it's best where it was, it knows the area, and knows where to find food, but this one was struggling - presumably it was having trouble finding food in the old area, so relocating it makes sense this time.
@@Silver_Owl I wonder if they will become bolder, and be visible more often? Maybe they will start to act like stray dogs one day.
Vcs são maravilhosos obrigado 😍 que Deus proteja a todos são Paulo Brasil
I love your phased approach to releasing them, with them first acclimating to being outside in an outdoor enclosure already sitting in the environment to which they'd be released. What's that approach called? Is it a standard protocol for wildlife rescuers in your area?
It's called a soft-release! Whilst this is our preferred method for young mammals, it's not standard protocol amongst other wildlife centres. We like to do it because, as you said, it gives the animals a gentle transition to being fully wild :)
What a nice soft release.
