  • 'Red Riding Hood' is episode five from series fifteen of Armchair Theatre and was originally broadcast on the 9th October, 1973. This episode definitely took a rare dive into psychologically disturbing territory for the series. The story focuses on the character of Grace, played by Rita Tushingham (in her first major TV role) and after having big screen success with The Bed Sitting Room and Straight on Till Morning, here plays Grace, a woman whom regularly visits her ageing grandmother (Hilda Barry) Grace finds herself being drawn into a dangerous relationship with Henry (Keith Baron) and soon becomes convinced that something sinister is going on. But are the macabre events in that strange house reality, or the imaginings of somebody close to a mental breakdown? And just how 'innocent' is young Grace? Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense and Straight on Till Morning writer John Peacock crafts an absorbing and often frightening take on the classic Red Riding Hood tale with this claustrophobic psychological horror.
