Amazing video looooool. I'm so used to the fan translation names but I understand why they needed different ones. I guess one upside once we have Simon Keyes' new name is there will no longer be the Simon-Simon confusion with Blackquill within the fandom
They can't acknowledge the fan translation because it requires an emulator which they don't want to be promoting, I get that, but it's a shame that the fan-translators already picked the perfect names for most of these characters. Like Ray LOOKS like a Ray. I understand there's undoubtedly a lot of "It's different so it sucks" going on, but the bouba/kiki effect proves that people really can look like their name and man did a lot of them look like their names.
I just don't understand what is the point of this whole war of "which is better". Why cannot we just use both names interchangeably? Fire Emblem and Danganronpa communities have been doing it for years (Fire Emblem is pretty much 50/50 official and fan). And it's not like it creates confusion since pretty much everyone knows the fan-translation names after they've been around for 10 years. Even if you prefer name Eustache, you know exaclty who I am talking about when I mention Sebastian.
I wasn’t aware Danganronpa had different names in Japan. I’m surprised actually, given they all have Japanese names in the localization anyway. Edit: Unless Danganronpa had a fan-translation that I’m unaware of…
@@SeiyaTempest In Japanese/older translations of danganronpa, the characters are called their last names (IE Naegi-kun, Hagakure, Ishimaru,or Komaeda) In the steam port, they changed it to use their first names, and in some cases shorter nicknames (Makoto, Hiro, Taka, and Nagito) Its not fully the same thing as what happened with Ace Attorney but you can tell what 'generation' a danganronpa fan is from by what they call the characters and find natural to read in fan fics
@@jl8417 True, Danganronpa's localisation is somewhat Westernised in terms of naming conventions and even pop culture references. They never use honorifics (-san, -chan, -kun, etc.) if I recall correctly. Still, their names aren't actually changed like Ace Attorney, where Ryuichi (Phoenix) and Ryuunosuke share the same surname in Japanese, and their relation becomes lost in translation.
"Ray Shields" always made me think of Revenge of the Sith and sci-fi tech, which was funny to me but also felt even sillier than "A defender." Plus, he looks like an Eddie. I dig it. Idk what's up with Verity Gavelle, but it sounds pretty, so good enough. Debeste boy got so screwed.
But there's more to it than that! He also shares his first name with Raymond Burr, the man who played Perry Mason! It ties into how Gregory Edgeworth was named after Gregory Peck, who played Atticus Finch, as both are famous fictional defense attorneys.
Thank you! It's been a while since I played investigations 2 so I tried my debeste. I'm also worried about the voices but I have hope the casting will be good either way :D

Verity Gavelle is such a good name, and I'm glad she gets one that sounds really regal. I might even prefer it over Angela von Jure. Sorry, but Justine Courtney always sounded too normal to me. You make me look bad!"

This is extremely well written. "May you enlighten us in the way we should refer to you now?" is SUCH an Edgeworth line. (Ok I just watched the entirety of it and burst into laughter, the ending is incredible xD)
What bothers me about Eustace Winner is that it's literally just the word "winner". They couldn't have at least spelled it "Wynner" or something? It's not even a pun or subversion, it's just the fucking word. I really feel like they could have been much more clever with it, the full name doesn't flow at all, it just looks and sounds bad in practice

@suntzu3403 Victor would've been such a better last name if they can’t use Debeste. Won't deny Sebastian Debeste is better but Eustace Victor would've been a decent replacement if they can't use that.
Can't wait to confront Mann Hoomastermiinesdegaem!
Me neither
At least "Eddie" can be short for "Edward-" which, like the name Raymond, has guarding, defensive connotations.
So his true full name is Edward Fender? Interesting.
Oh, didn't know that, cool!
Also makes him an honorary member of the Eddieworth family
@@TangoStar Certainly, Edgeworth and Edward have similar pronunciations.
Edward "Eddie" Fender.
Amazing video looooool. I'm so used to the fan translation names but I understand why they needed different ones. I guess one upside once we have Simon Keyes' new name is there will no longer be the Simon-Simon confusion with Blackquill within the fandom
@@CaptainQuirky ajdbajd true
They can't acknowledge the fan translation because it requires an emulator which they don't want to be promoting, I get that, but it's a shame that the fan-translators already picked the perfect names for most of these characters. Like Ray LOOKS like a Ray. I understand there's undoubtedly a lot of "It's different so it sucks" going on, but the bouba/kiki effect proves that people really can look like their name and man did a lot of them look like their names.
I'm pretty sure they've referenced a fan-translation before though.
(At least, I've seen a comment or 2 talking about it recently.)
Yeah. Those fan-translation names had so much thought put into them, like the name Shields to contrast with Edgeworth (sword)
They also can't legally use the names from the fan translation as that could be ground for stealing someone else's ideas without permission
So true. Should have licensed the names. Sadge
Yeah, the localizer for the origimal trilogy stated that Dahlia was a nod to the fan-translation of T&T@@King_Luigi

Edit: Unless Danganronpa had a fan-translation that I’m unaware of…
Danganronpa doesn't have different names, unless you mean romanisation. They're still in Japanese.
@@SeiyaTempest In Japanese/older translations of danganronpa, the characters are called their last names (IE Naegi-kun, Hagakure, Ishimaru,or Komaeda)
In the steam port, they changed it to use their first names, and in some cases shorter nicknames (Makoto, Hiro, Taka, and Nagito)
Its not fully the same thing as what happened with Ace Attorney but you can tell what 'generation' a danganronpa fan is from by what they call the characters and find natural to read in fan fics
I kinda wish there was a subplot where they used these names as fake, only to reveal the fan translation names later on it would have been hilarious.
Especially if you think about him as a boi in the flashback. Eddie Fender eating paper sounds better.
But there's more to it than that! He also shares his first name with Raymond Burr, the man who played Perry Mason! It ties into how Gregory Edgeworth was named after Gregory Peck, who played Atticus Finch, as both are famous fictional defense attorneys.
I'm betting Blaise will be something along "Blast Winner"
My money on Bourne Winner.
Bernie Winner

That or something that sounds like Fiery mixed with Furious.
These seems like actual dialogs from the game. Good job. I'm also highly anxious about the new voices of the characters
Thank you! It's been a while since I played investigations 2 so I tried my debeste. I'm also worried about the voices but I have hope the casting will be good either way :D
The Eustace part is "debeste"😂😂😂 Love Kay teasing with him
Names aside the dialogues here were perfect.
I imagine people will be begging the modding community to turn those names back to the fan translation. Can't say I'd blame them
Yeah but at the end of the day it's fan translated not officially translated so the people complaining they must accept it.
I can guarantee that will be one of the first things modded
well now that it’s Blaise who told me to buy the games i don’t think i will-
NOOOO SJADGASHDFSHGD
thing is:
If you pronounce Sebastian Debest correctly it will sound like "The best in the best" which is extremly funny
Zebestiªn?
Ngl I was expecting Fender's first name to be Dave, but Eddie is fine too. I think the name as a whole has a nice ring to it and the pun is a bit better than Shields, although I'm still gonna miss Atticus Stalwart.
Verity Gavelle is such a good name, and I'm glad she gets one that sounds really regal. I might even prefer it over Angela von Jure. Sorry, but Justine Courtney always sounded too normal to me.
Eustace Winner is bad, but it's pretty in-character for him and I can definitely say it's gonna be memorable, even if I prefer Furst. Plus I can have fun picturing him go "Stupid Edgeworth! You make me look bad!"
why did I imagine that his name would be Dick? As in Dick Fender.
@@random-productions1837I mean Gumshoe is already Dick.
i was expecting it to be "Cody" as in "co-defender" given how he worked alongside Gregory.

“Secksa Fender”
Makes me think of the JelloApocalypse gameplay.

Oh, I know: Burne or Burnard Winner like in fire.
This was so fun to watch and then the ending made it perfect
AJDBAJD glad you enjoyed it!
This is extremely well written. "May you enlighten us in the way we should refer to you now?" is SUCH an Edgeworth line.
(Ok I just watched the entirety of it and burst into laughter, the ending is incredible xD)
omg thankk youu ahg gahwgdag h😭😭 i kinda just did what felt right to be honest but im glad you liked it
I love how everyones treating these name changes like they switched genders. Absolutely hilarious
Im curious what some of the other name puns are gonna be. Like nothing can top Jay Elbird, or Simon Keyes
I'm gonna miss Katherine Hall so much
What bothers me about Eustace Winner is that it's literally just the word "winner". They couldn't have at least spelled it "Wynner" or something? It's not even a pun or subversion, it's just the fucking word. I really feel like they could have been much more clever with it, the full name doesn't flow at all, it just looks and sounds bad in practice
Pretty sure it’s meant to be a play on Useless Winner
At least he's not "Winner" Sinclair.
I hope Blaise turns into Casey Winner, as in “case winner”
I’ve never groaned so much at a pun in my life… and I thought MY puns were bad 😂
Its inline with ace attorney, considering one of the characters is called redd white
I also saw that Horace Knightley is just Horse Knight. Subtle. Did Capcom fucking hire the DIC/4Kids group for localization? For fucks sake. I can't wait to meet Eddie Fender's brother, Sechs O. Fender.
We don’t know what Horace’s first name is yet. We just know the last name is Knight (like how Ethan’s is Rook and Nicole’s is Lloyd)
@@LizzieourWorld Considering the localization names we do know I wouldn't be surprised if they made his name Horse or did some RWBY shit and made it 'Hors' or 'Horz'
Isnt his name "Chester Knight"?
@@Nebularban That's somehow even worse.🤣
@@Ravensgale Don't act like it's any different than "Horace Knightley". They're literally on the same level. It's either "Horse Knight" Or "Chess Knight"
I know everyone is discussing the name changes, but honestly, I'm wondering what the voice bits are going to sound like? Surely we won't get *_Overruled!_* this time as well, right?
I saw people on reddit saying it could be 'Order' instead which sounds really fitting tbh.
Besides Sebastian and Blaise, I won't miss the old voices much honestly
@pgreta1752 To be fair, Knightley had a pretty great *_Objection!_* to me, at least.

I'm excited to experience the game again(through playthroughs cuz aint no way i get a Switch in my country) but now with an official translation! I'm wondering what differences some scenes may be, the rest of the names and maybe even some characterizations
