Rather than just laying the diaphragm into the groove on the carburettor and hoping it stays in position when you fit the cap, use a small amount of vaseline and line the carburettor groove with it before installing the diaphragm, it'll stick in the groove and won't move while you are moving the cap around on top trying to line it up! It looks like the first diaphragm got trapped between the carburettor and the cap the last time someone had it out. Love watching your video's, it's great to see someone else's methods, from a fellow ATV repair specialist over in Scotland.
Never use Vaseline on rubber, especially a carburetor diaphragm. I know you're gonna say you've done that for years and it's never caused an issue. Like the other commenter said, use grease.
@@fourbyfourerI either use rubber grease or vaseline, it depends what comes to hand first. Interesting that you say not to use vaseline though, the reason I use vaseline is because it is petroleum based rather than heavy oil based and I'd be surprised if the very small amount I use is going to do any damage to the rubber, but you are correct, I have used it for years and have never experienced any issues in doing so.
My girlfriend put 13,000 miles on her rincon in a year we use it everyday back and fourth to work and to town. We never run our trucks anymore the rincon is pretty great and never had any issues
I can't thank you enough for posting your videos. I have learned a ton of information that has helped me service and maintain my Honda ATVs. Really appreciate you, buddy. Whipple
I've always been a fan of the Rincons. I know a guy here in Canada who has one that has over 100,000kms 60,000 miles. It's been rebuilt a couple times with OEM parts but that is insane for a atv. The most mileage I've ever seen, they mentioned it and talked about it a little on the new dirt Trax episode where they reviewed the new 700 Rubicon. I sent you a pic of it in your last upload on Facebook
Rock got my Rincon from a guy that bought 4 new at a time. Mine was totaled with 20 mins on the odometer. He went and bought 4 more new ones. They went the same way. Mine had a cam and what I was told was a hot cam. It for sure had a little more power than one without. With 14" wheels and 27" itp plug lites it would still beat a stock one in a drag race. I got to compare it to a 680 and it didn't quite have the power of the 680 but it was on stock wheels and tires. The best trail quad Honda made but still not comparable to even say a 660 grizzly. The 3 speed was terrible. No locking diff was crappy. Still climbed tons of massive hills with it and also tumbled and bounced it. I want to say I finally got it sold for $500.
Getter done.. That high performance spring costed him..Could of been alot worse chasing the cam ghost.Thats why you always get second opinion if you can afford it are got a uncle shadetree..I'd went thru carb but I not been known to check them diaphrams like rock..Wisdom! ❤
The Rincon's are an amazing machine. I have had an 03 since new, currently has 9550 miles with no major issues. Theres a reason Honda doesnt really change them in 20 years.
Really great video! I tell ya man what I enjoy most about everything you do is your honesty and not just doing whatever and charging a ton a money. Wish West Virginia was closer to you so I could have you work on my brute force lol but thanks for all the content buddy really enjoy it and have learned a lot!
Nice troubleshooting. My 700 pioneer has the same transmission with the 680 engine . It could definitely use another gear or 2. I am overall happy with it .
@rockspowersports I'm excited my dad had a grizzly 600 and I wanted to fix this up for him but unfortunately he passed away last month so now I just wanna get it going
Nailed it quick you did! I wonder if that's a CV carb and needs an air filter on it as well to get the slide to raise properly? 1 down, 15 to go! I've seen entire fleets of these in service to oil and gas up here in Alberta.
Can you explain the spring difference. Did someone put the bigger spring in it. And is the shorter spring oem for the Rincon. Please and great video for sure!
I’ve never had that new of a quad and after seeing all the plastic push pins and crap I don’t know if I’d want one. Love the quads from late 80s and 90s. Just a lot more simple to work on and a lot more durable.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm not a mechanic type, so don't even WANT to work on such things... But why would I want even more work when I need to?
@@rockspowersportsThanks! Little nervous, first atv but wanted a project. The guy said it smoked the last time he rode it and after it sat it wouldn’t start. So hopefully not something too crazy
@@rockspowersports yeah I’m about to start digging into it. I know I missed the first thing to check, air filter 🤦♂️. They were using an old sock, so here we go. Anything I need to pay special attention to?
I had a 660 that acted like that it had a ripped diaphragm so I fixed the hole with duct tape😂 and then I forgot I did it until about a year later when I had a shop go through it because it wasn't shifting into park
Hey Rock....great video.......I always use the Cheech and Chong method to trouble shoot anything with an engine.I guess i was way off this time though. My guess was ....Low air in the tires. Then my second and third guess was.Is the handlebars loose.....and or.....was the horn button stuck in the on position.........Thanks again.!!!
Not true at all. My girlfriend rode her for over 13,000 miles in a year. I rode mine for 10,000 in the same year. So saying the wife’s machines are normally nicer is pretty irrelevant….. go away you sexist moron
I'm just triggered that the new "Rincon" still isn't power steering. You were right about me not liking the Rincon. I actually loved every part of it except for the non-power steering. I just don't consider any four-wheeler to be worth more than 1,500 bucks if it doesn't have power steering
@@rockspowersports and it's been a long time since we've talked, I unfortunately had to sell all of my four-wheelers except my son's 110. Hopefully next year I can afford to get even a small two up. I need a two-up for safety with my other younger son on the back. I don't trust those bolt-on seats
It has been a little while, sorry to hear you had to sell everything. How’s your son’s Cf moto holding up so far? And yeah the dedicated 2up atv’s are safer if you’re constantly riding 2 people.
@@rockspowersports amazing, it starts up and runs perfect. Recommend to anyone with little kids who want a reliable firm injected with cool digital display (kids feel like big ATV with a real screen)
Hands down, the best atv in that bunch is the 300 Fourtrax.

Just out of curiosity did you replace the missing air box hose and I missed that?
My first thought was man, that spring is way too long. Putting to much tension on that slide for the vacuum to overcome. Good catch!

Honda 700xx piston fits in the 680, so ya can install a 10.5 compression piston
