If that was me the last half of the video would have been one straight beeeeeep 😂😂
I do repairs like u do and i just bought a table lift about a yr ago it really saves on your back and knees. And i put soft floor mats down around it. Makes things so much easier for me. I enjoy ur video's very knowledgeable thank u
Don’t sell yourself short on labor for this one Rock! That’s crazy. I wonder if the clip is broke, or maybe the diff was low on oil & it got so hot it welded itself together? Can’t wait to see it fly out of there!
That’s crazy bro!
Thanks for showing the struggle. It’s good to see what real life repairs are.
Hats off to you rock. I would have lost my temper lol I would've been coming up with swear words during that time!
You're a better man than I. I would have been throwing stuff and cursing.
Thanks you for not cutting out all the grief and hardship of this shaft removal , I thought I was the only guy who struggled with this junk. Love your videos.
This happened to me on a grizzly 660.. ended up discovering there was a retaining clip holding it in.. lol. Once I removed the clip slid right out
This video gave me a whole new appreciation for mechanics.
If i was the owner and i saw how much you tried to save the diff and in the end it did end up breaking id still be grateful of your hard work and be happy to pay for it. Heck even if you only tried for half that time id still be happy to pay.
Love how you upload vids in real-time. Keep it up, Rock!
Glad you enjoy it, thanks!
@rockspowersports cheers, man!
@@rockspowersports You should invest in a GoPro with a chest mount or head mount, job be super easy with two hands lol.
I’ve had couple rincons like that before! Honestly I have a harbor freight 5lbs hammer and I welded the threaded part to a old inner axle cup so i typically just run a good weld around that axle cup (side hammer setup) to the axle cup I’m trying to rip out (the heat and sturdy solidness of the cup welded to a cup) typically couple hard goes at it either A will snap the end of the axle clean off where the snap ring holds or B pull it out with the clip destroyed 😆 BTW DO NOT EVER TAKE ON A 2020 + krx 1000 side by side rear axle job! They are required to drill threw the axle same as you did and thread it so that a bruteforce 750 clutch puller will tighten and pull it out and the other side requires a hole saw to drill the other end of the axle where the clip is clean off… factory defect on them! They aren’t designed to ever be removed even straight out the showroom before it ever even was in mud they are a nightmare designed to
that's impressive
I'm a ATV mechanic myself not full time just on the side. A lot of people don't realize how much work goes into working on machines. Nothing ever really goes easy. But having the tools and the time and energy is big and worth more than what we charge people. You go the extra mile all the time and not charge em and I will to a point then it's $. That rusty Honda is clear to be a career ender. Lol that shaft was welded to that spline I've had a few like that. Time consuming and energy draining.
Hey man, I did the same exact job on the same four wheeler felt your pain I ended up taking a differential out cutting the CV shafts pulling the ring gear out and putting it on a shot press and I believe it hit 30 tons before it broke, free, new seals and put it back together with a lot of grease on the spines it definitely sucked
😮💨 that’s tough ! Phew
Also I gotta get you a mount to hold camera , working one handed is skill in itself
Man, I agree you should have a tri-pod for your camera😅 !
Sure Glad I have a 2000 Fourtrax 300 easy to work on and maintain. At a dealer they would quickly tell you need a new rear diff. All these newer model ATV. Are somewhat like working on modern day vehicles. They can make you crazy.
Wow that's a really stuck CV. Great job on removing it without damage.
This is where you now look at the time honda quote for changing a CV shaft. And laugh. Or cry.😮
Didn't know, it's possible to even get them that stuck. Wow.. i suffered with you the whole way.
Hey man! I made a video on my channel on how to turn a sledgehammer into a mega driveshaft puller, this happened to me on a BMW, the clip was ultra stuck. Time to pull the diff apart and hydraulic press the shaft out! What a pain! (once you see big mud tires, you know its all gonna be smashed to bits!)
I have problems doing any repairs using two hands and you do it with tools one hand and a camera in the other...... amazing !
I had never seen anything stuck like that keep us updated buddy
That's why I love my snap-on 3050 air hammer and a big air compressor works every time
When the CV is stuck like that, I use an air hammer with a long punch. Put it on the side of the inboard cup and just vibrate it a bit. Turn and repeat a few times and they will usually pop right out. Just need to loosen the rust in there.
great video rock I'm sure lots of choice words were said during this haha
Drill the shaft till its paper thin will have to come out if there's nothing left of it lol
That was one of my thoughts.. I have the rear diff out and have it soaking right now.
I don't know why I'm laughing, 😂 me either. If you don't get it out he's still going to have to buy a new rear diff either way.
whenever I have one stuck like that I tap a prybar behind the cup on one side then tap the other side of the cup with the hammer and they pop out every time no damage to the diff
She's seen some use. 😮
Man, I'd say it's pretty much Clapped out !
You are a tough young man enjoy the videos and keep up the great work hope you get that problem solved!
All those times it took you one hand to fix something that a mechanic in a dealership couldnt do with 2 hands finally caught up with you on this one.hopefully that pb blaster works overnight.ive have good luck with that stuff when you give it a while and go out before you go to bed and soak it again
Haha must be that’s the reason.
I helped a buddy change a snapped cv on his rzr and it was stuck just like that. We came up with this contraption that used ratchet straps with the hooks on the cv/hub and tied the other side to a support post in the garage. We then put wood in between the machine and the post so it wouldn’t just pull the whole machine to the side . We cranked on the straps and tapped the cv by the diff and it popped right out! I can imagine you can do this same thing using a tree!
You can take a few pairs of vice grips and put them onto that broken cv. Then take ratchet straps and hook them onto them and use that 2x4 as an anchor. Put the straps against a tree or something heavy! Get some tension on them and then use the air hammer or punch from the other side!
That’s insane how stuck it is , you’re tough not giving up !! 👊🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Better to laugh then cry R.😂..When you took the Halloween break and came back I just knew that baby was in trouble...😊How old are ya R.Hows that knee papa..❤
Yeah… it’s been soaking all weekend, come Monday it’s coming out of there one way or another! And I’m 33 right now.
Best/worst cliffhanger I’ve seen all year. Love it.
Prose of a mechanic's life. Great video, waiting for update's one these Honda, great series of video is coming.😉
Had a cortisone shot in the shoulder yesterday it was hurting just watching you take out the cv shafts, I've done a fair few but that beats the cake cheers.
Feeling it this morning in the shoulders and forearms
Man this video reminds me of when I work on stuff!!!
Man i was rooting for you to get that shaft out!
Haha… yeah this one wasn’t a fun job.
I have a rincon, I ended up putting a wedge punch in between the diff and the cv cup. I was lucky not to break my diff. I was at the same point you were in. It was either replace the diff because I couldn't get it out or get lucky with the wedge punch.
This guy does more with one hand than I would get done with two
Wow! 😮
Man thats a battle!
My buddy had a hard time getting one out of his newer Polaris, but it was not that bad !!
I find that a lot on Polaris’s as well. I think the issue with those is they have too much “play” in the cv/diff and it allows a lot of dirt/water in.
@@rockspowersports you picked a great title for this video !! Rusty is definitely the best name for this Honda
I thought it was fitting.
I had the same issue on my xp1000 I had to pull the diff and take the diff apart and soak it in my parts cleaner bin for a day and the put it in my vice and couple good swings and came out just glad i didnt screw up my side diff cover
I have Dealt with that on a 2002 polaris sportsman 700. Front diff both sides. That external seal lets everything get to the splines and c-clip
I just went through the exact same thing with my rzr 900s last weekend.SuperAtv makes a cv axle puller that you use with a slide hammer . I bought a cheap cv axle puller from amazon because the superatv one is $250 here in Canada. it was basically a piece of pipe cut down to fit over the end of the cv axle that had two holes drilled into the sides so you can thread 2 bolts into the sides to clamp it down to the end of axle . took me two days to get it out and with out the Amazon puller wouldn’t have come it
Long bit on a air hammer go on the back side of the cv axle. Works wonders! But going by how stuck that was i dont think it would have helped much. Good idea with drilling it! Keep it up! Great job!
Wow you're good no swearing
Needed something to watch and there you are on a friday AND a 40min repair?!?!? I love it, thank you sir! More of that formula please! Any extra merchandise being thought of by chance? Hats? Tank tops? No pressure, just wanna help
I’m glad you enjoy the videos so much. I haven’t really done much with the merchandise as of yet, I will at some point. I’m just trying to focus on getting these repairs done and getting the videos out. I appreciate you wanting to support the channel though!
best channel on you tube is rocks!!!always enjoy his vids and learn so much!!!!
Thanks for the kind works, it means a lot.
@@rockspowersports anytime!!i tell everyone about your channel!
Rock my language would have been very colorful trying to get that cv out!
I watched that whole video! Never ever seen one that bad!
On another question from me! What do you use for replacement batteries? My snowmobile needs one. 2019 indy xc 800.
After all that jerking on the rear end, will it hurt the bearings of any thing in that center diff?
Wow. That was a struggle. For sure!
Whipple
That is insane sorry you have to deal with that!
You probably already know by now but if you just tap and pry on the cup. They come off so much easier. Then pulling. I had that problem. Tap and pry my guy
I like the four wheeler content but we are coming up on snowmobile season! Any sled content coming?
I've always wondered why you can't run them without the clip? Is it to keep the axle from falling out? Seems like the splined parts are so long it can't fall out.
What a battle!
Give you a Hugh A for Effort !
For stuck cv ‘s I had good luck using a pry bar on the bottom of the cup and a big hammer on top works everytime
I've had some success using an air hammer on the cup. A chisel bit works, but obviously it will mark the cup badly if it's to be reused. Hit it on the sides and rotate it occasionally, trying to drive it out. In this situation, you'd almost have to be at a 90 degree angle due to clearances, but even that will jar the splines/clip. You also need a pretty good air chisel (the big HF chief is actually quite strong if you can provide it with enough air). Alternate between the hammer and pulling with your home made slide. May bring it out.
Last thing was really stuck never seen that before but I like the episode good job but I have to ask one question how in the world can you do all that work one-handed LOL
Wow,really had to struggle and try every trick in your book!!makes you regret things during these momments.but when and if victoriuos youll be so amazed youll forget the struggle!!!kool u kept at it!!!
I had a 2008 polaris sportsman 500 that I had to split the diff to get it out it was a 2 day progress
Howdy duty there rock hope you’re having a great day. Have a great weekend thanks for the video
You too! Thanks for watching.
When shit seized up that bad breaking, it would not be your fault. Technically speaking after three hours of trying to get it out. You should’ve just said you need a new diff and replace the whole thing. It would’ve been much easier and even in the end could you imagine what the inside of that diff looks like
You can still try to remove the other side and push it from there
Expletives would have been flying out of my entire body.
Try PB blaster penetrating oil it's dissolves rust
I used PB blaster, around the 38-39 minute mark on this video.
@@rockspowersports CRC Knock’er loose , and Kano Kroil penetrating oil are the ones you really want to try. Liquid wrench will outperform pb blaster, but CRC knocker loose, Kano kroil penetrating oil are for those really difficult jobs.
I have never seen an axle that stuck !! That quad must have spent a lot of time in the deep water !! It’s going to end up needing two rear axles
I have seen some stuck ones but usually by the time I weld the homemade slide hammer on it’s all over..
Arkansas Wavin
Can you get a pry bar in there?
The struggle is real !
Much more heat needed! I totally feel your pain.
Yikes . That’s a tough one . I am sure you will get it removed . Rust is a nuisance.
I have a bad experience with the recoil on a 05 foreman, something locked up and the cage it engages in was in pieces, it it okay if it’s shredded?
had the same problem on my rincon all i wanted to do was change the cv boot cuz it was all twisted and i could get the axle out had to use a puller and a wedge. i put a shit tons of anti seize on them
That’s why I own Polaris . Regular Maintenance. No issues.
I use a 3' chain hooked to a 10# sledge hammer. Block it up straight and swing the hammer. I've pulled them apart and had to weld a bolt across to hook the chain to. Polaris UTV rears are the worst !
You need a drink after that!
Crazy how stuck that thing is. Did you make that puller? Seems like it would do the job if that wasn't basically rust welded on haha.
Yes I did make it, usually works pretty well.
Hey rock, try soaking it in actual penetrating oil... wd 40 is not penetrating oil
I have it soaking in PB blaster shown around the 38-39 minute mark on this video. We will see how tomorrow goes..
This makes for a great argument to buy new or at least somewhat new;)
Hey I have a rzr 570 that needs motor fixed if u want to make a video of it.
Dude, spray it and use 2 pry bars
🤔 would that mod work on a Yamaha?
Wrap a chain around the hub and whip the chain
Had this exact same issue on a trx 520 was stuck that bad took me 2 weeks off trying different things even damaged the case abit in the process in the end had to pull the diff and get access to all round the cup and that finally popped it out but the issue is honda designed the diffs to where the end off the shaft doesn’t get any lubrication from diff oil and it just rusts up leaving the shaft and clip to seize up terrible design on hondas part one off the only downfalls off these quads
What do you have for sale? Just wondering
Hey Rock, i emailed you with a question but never heard back. I'll ask here in one of your latest Rincon videos. My father has a 2016 rincon that is stuck in service mode. So the bike is stuck in 2nd gear. He replaced the shift solenoid already but that didnt fix it. He tried the reset procedure for the ECU but that never reset it. Some suggest the Angle Sensor, which i see is cheap on amazon, but you experience this issue and what your solution was? Thanks. Love your videos.
had to use a winch to remove my cv-axle from a 2011 canam 500 max, tried for 2 hours to pull the bastard out and didnt want to budge until we used a winch...
the legnth of spring does not give it more power. it just lets the rpm's increase faster.
Anti seize should be used at the factory. I have never seen one that bad.
I agree!
@rockspowersports i emailed you.
What i do is when this situation happens, i just take the other shaft off and just hammer the shaft out on the other side.
I tried that.. she’s really stuck
Rumour has it hes still beating that thing to this day.
Jokes aside, what a pain in the ass.
Stubborn damn axle. I try to get a zip tie or thin metal in there over that damn clip in the spines
Buy a can of Kroil
I was hoping you use sledge hammer!!!! Haha!!!
So the clips can't be removed
Vermont crust lol
This one came from Connecticut but yeah…
what a nightmare... wow
