Portos is so reasonably priced for the quality of things they sell. Their sandwiches are also worth trying. There are so many good bakeries in Los Angeles!
Wow! That was a super bakery tour! I really appreciate knowing these bakeries are family owned & in business for decades. They are the kind of businesses that keep America going. Oh my, what delicious looking pastries. My mouth almost instantly started watering. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe. Many blessings
We absolutely love Fat+Flour. Nicole Rucker is such a talented person! Her way with baked goods is unprecedented. It's a special sort of magic. Thanks, John!! ❤
From your adorable family to the delectable baked goodies and amazing bakery facts, I loved EVERY second of this video and hope for many more just like it! 🤗
Doesn’t matter which Porto’s you visit, they’re always busy. But I read somewhere, at the end of the day. All their left over pastries get boxed and shipped to the many shelters in LA county. Thank you for showing that bakery from Chinatown. As a kid, I loved that strawberry cake but we never knew where it came from. And here you are showing the video!! Love you guys!!! 💕
I'm an LA native and thanks for this. Even Food Network doesn't feature Los Angeles based places as much. Your boys and husband are SO handsome! Come back here more often!! xo
you are such a nice human ~ i bet the kids are loved deeply and given a life of wonder adventure and heartful love and kindness~ thank you for sharing your beautiful family and self ~
Enjoyable video, thanks! I'm originally from Los Angeles and it was nice seeing a bit of it. Made me feel a bit nostalgic. I miss the old bakeries I knew from ages ago. My grandparents bought their Challah and bagels from the Beverlywood Bakery on Pico, which was close to where they lived. But sometimes they'd go to Brown's Bakery on Wilshire, heading towards downtown. Those bakeries made lots of other baked goods, like the yummy chocolate chip danish, sort of like giant rugelach. Both bakeries are gone now, so sad. But that's life, ever changing. Thanks for your sharing your fave bakeries!
My mom and I go to Porto’s every other week for breakfast. We always get the guacamole croissant breakfast sandwich and a pastry to share. It’s heavenly and in the morning on a weekday there are hardly any lines.
Wonderful video. This was such a nice change and seeing the family made it even better. As Julia Child said.... " A party without cake is just a meeting" Love that.
Being a resident of L.A., I thought this was so much fun. Thanks for featuring these businesses. Yes, the line at Porto's is usually long (I go to the one in Burbank) but it moves quickly and adds to the anticipation!
This was so nice! Loved to see Brian and the boys! And kudos for touring Los Angeles! We have seen sooo many New York tours, it’s time for something different.
Standing in line at Portos just gives you time to see all that they have in the cases. That cake from Phoenix bakery was my grandmothers favorite birthday cake. We lived down the street. Great choices for your trip!
Yay! I'm so happy that you made it to Los Angeles and checked out our bakeries. It was awesome to see Porto's Bakery featured. I go there often and I love the Neopolitan!
Great video. Next time you're in LA and like French pastries then Cool bites patisserie located in Glendale is an absolute must. My personal faves are their Paris-Brest, Cherry-Matcha and St. Honore. And they have the best moist carrot cake I've ever had. It takes me back to Paris each time I take a bite of their pastries.
Great video. I’m an Angeleno and LA is a Foodie heaven! My favorite from Phoenix Bakery is the Pandan (an aromatic herb)sponge cake with young coconut filling and whipped cream. My favorite from Porto’s is the Napoleon.
Omg John what a treat how do stay so trim your handsome husband and those georgeous little boys you guys make me melt your too much thankyou John xxx❤️❤️❤️
At Portos, I absolutely love their chicken croquet (chicken balls) and their quesadilla (it's a small round cake that tastes like a creamy pound cake)! Their cuban cake is also delish!
Thank you for taking me on your tour of the delicious bakeries in LA. It was nice to know where you grew up and to get to know about your mother and the Mexican bakery that she liked. And nice to see your family again.
Strawberry Cream Cake, OMG! I’m a chocolate person, but that cake looked fabulous. I also ADORE Napoleons. This was such a fun video, John, and my first introduction to your lovely family! So nice!
Ok brian is lookin healthy. Not that he wasnt before but whatever hes doin is worth the effort.😊 And the charm of fat and flour, From the owner to the name... looks amazing
This reminds me of those food travel shows that used to be on tv before everything became reality tv. I love this. You went to all my old haunts, although I haven't been to the bakeries I used live in LA and it was good seeing the areas I used to hang in.
La mascota Bakery has been a tradition for my family to go every Thanksgiving to get their delicious tamales and wonderful Bakery choices they have. Thanks for showing us all the Bakeries in LA.
Such a sweet video, loved it. Next time I go to LA, I'll visit some of these. I've been to Porto so was glad to see it was on your tour too! Your boys are adorable.
I like the commentators' ease of demeanor and voice (it is so Los Angeles and West Coast). "Laid back." Like how he left the kids by the hotel pool as he continued his "cruising." I'd buy these Desserts in bulk and age them. In a couple of years and more, uh la la!
i lived in la my whole life and only heard about the portos bakery not the other ones so thank you for this! i will definitely visit the other locations
I love this video so much. Lived in LA for a good 5 years, and I'm somewhat nearby so I'll pass by and go to some of these places. I also saw your NYC blog and would LOVE if you did a video on bakeries/food there!
The Porto’s potato balls 🫠 So darn good! The pineapple cake and mango mousse cake are my faves! Also, Phoenix Bakery is delicious, but Queen’s Bakery just a few blocks away is my favorite.
There is a Porto’s in Burbank as well and I love guava strudel, refugiado, potato balls and mariquitas. If you do another Los Angeles bakery tour, don’t miss Artelice Patisserie in Japantown and Burbank, and Lou the French on the Block also in Burbank, for phenomenal croissants and desserts.
Great Tour John. Thanks for sharing “family” time with us. I must have gained 20 lbs just watching. Everything looked so delicious. Tfs. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon.❤🤗
God sent His son Jesus to die for our sins on the cross. This was the ultimate expression of God's love for us. Then God raised Jesus from the dead on the third day. Please repent and turn to Jesus and receive Salvation now before it is too late. The end times written about in the Holy Bible are already happening in the world. Jesus loves you with all His heart ❤️ but time is almost up.
Phoenix Bakery is a mainstay for my family. My parents grew up in LA but moved inland when they had me. We still make the trip to Phoenix Bakery for their Strawberry Cream cake for birthdays and special occasions. That cream frosting is perfection. We also visit El Gallo Bakery on Cesar E Chavez for Pan de Agua, as well as The Pantry for breakfast if we arrive early enough!
Rhubarb raspberry pie sounds and looks so yummy! I’m not from LA but Fat and Flour looks like such a neat place. I love to eat and make fruit pies so I would love to go there!!
What a great episode! I live in LA and I have only heard of Porto's (definitely the best tres leches!) and the Phoenix bakery so I look forward to checking out some new spots!
If you are ever visiting Southern California again and find yourself in the Ventura area and want to try an AMAZING little home bakers food, Ninja Bake Cookies is 10/10 amazing. I think she ships cookies as well 😁
Fellow native Angelino here, now living in beautiful South Carolina. I just went back home for a visit in June and HAD to go to Portos! Also got some cake and sweets from King's Hawaiian down in Torrance.
I enjoyed your bakery tour. I live a few hours away from LA and haven't tried any of those bakeries. Really cool that your family was in aerospace!!! Hope you didn't get a tummy ache from all those sweets. ❤
Thanks for showing off L.A.! I’ve only eaten at Porto’s, but who hasn’t living in SoCal. Those potato balls are dangerously good; however, you truly can only eat one! Looking forward to trying the other bakeries. Wish you would have made it to the South Bay/Long Beach area.🙋🏾
I live in LA, and I've eaten at a couple of the bakeries you showcased today. However, there are a few others I've never heard of, like Fat and Flour. I can't wait to try their fruit pies. I love fruit pies. 😋
Omg a new series???? I plan to go to Cali in October to meet my long distance partner! I'll have to see if we can go see any of the places you tour! :>
We have had so many great bakeries open here in Culver City. Fat & Flour being one of the newest. Next time you have to try Copenhagen. If you love laminated dough and true Danish danish, this is your place. p.s. Phoenix Bakery did my wedding cake (the strawberry & cream) forever ago and they were the only place we visited that didn't hike up their prices just because it was for a wedding. They are amazing!!
Phoenix Bakery is an old family favorite. My Mother always had the cake with the strawberries for her birthday, so when she passed away, we bought one in her honor. 😊
Since I live in Los Angeles, I really enjoyed this. Please do another video on your favorite LA restaurants.
What a darling family!!!!!..I love when you do a family video..
Oh thank you! Lachlan and George realy enjoyed taking part in this one!
Me too! Adding a personal touch to your videos is great!

Omg!! I used to go to Phoenix bakery when I was young. I'm 62 now. The cakes are delicious. Thank you for this video.

Grew up in the Beverlywood area, and we always went to the bakery there. Ah, nostalgia!

Wonderful video. This was such a nice change and seeing the family made it even better. As Julia Child said.... " A party without cake is just a meeting" Love that.
Brian is a good daddy for sharing his favorite cookie with his boy!
We love to see the great bakeries in LA being represented!❤
Soooo many good ones!

My friend from LA always brings Porto's pastries when she visits! So cool to see it in your video!
Awwwww. Thank you for featuring local bakeries on your channel. Adorable
I'm soo glad you trying Portos! It's my favorito place here ❤
Standing in line at Portos just gives you time to see all that they have in the cases. That cake from Phoenix bakery was my grandmothers favorite birthday cake. We lived down the street.

And nice to see your family again.
Glad to see Porto's represented- it's a go-to whenever anyone visits. I'll have to try out something else on your list, though.
Oh, I was so happy to see you at Porto's! We lived near the one in Glendale and LOVED their Cubano and Media Noche...heaven!
Strawberry Cream Cake, OMG! I’m a chocolate person, but that cake looked fabulous. I also ADORE Napoleons. This was such a fun video, John, and my first introduction to your lovely family! So nice!

What precious little sons Gregg! Thank you for sharing with all of us, now we know where to go in the area
OMG, as a SoCall native, thx so much for sharing these hidden gem bakeries. Definitely, will go on a treasure hunt!! Yum!
Prepare to be shocked. A slice of pie at Fat & Flour costs $9.50 and a whole pie costs $56.00.
Poppycake in Sierra Madre, and the guava cheese and cheese twist at Porto’s are the bestttt
Phoenix Bakery is a classic. Simply the best cakes.
Wow all those pastries look great! I got to try them when I'm Cali.
I love these family videos! i wish build a family as loving as yours, sending lots of love!!
I love this video so much. Lived in LA for a good 5 years, and I'm somewhat nearby so I'll pass by and go to some of these places.

The Porto’s potato balls 🫠 So darn good! The pineapple cake and mango mousse cake are my faves! Also, Phoenix Bakery is delicious, but Queen’s Bakery just a few blocks away is my favorite.
You missed “high pie”, made at the same house used in the original Top Gun. And no visit to Porto’s is complete without their guava cheese danish 🤤
Isn't High Pie in San Diego area?
Excellent tour! (Don't forget, Porto's line moves fast! They know what they"re doing!)
Wow I love going on a tour and also trying out different things too ❤❤
I am new to baking, I love your YT videos and recipes and now even more as you visited my hometown!!!!!
Such a cute family, thank you for the tour ❤
There is a Porto’s in Burbank as well and I love guava strudel, refugiado, potato balls and mariquitas. If you do another Los Angeles bakery tour, don’t miss Artelice Patisserie in Japantown and Burbank, and Lou the French on the Block also in Burbank, for phenomenal croissants and desserts.
Absolutely just love your travels to different bakeries!🥰🥰😋😋
Love love your videos John❤❤ watching you from Zambia 🇿🇲

Fat and Flour was AMAZING!!!!
When you get there and see the prices on display you'll probably turn around and leave. $9.50 for a slice and $56.00 for a whole pie is criminal.
What a great episode! I live in LA and I have only heard of Porto's (definitely the best tres leches!) and the Phoenix bakery so I look forward to checking out some new spots!
Porto's is a must every time I visit LA.
Phoenix Bakery strawberry cake 😋😋😋 The best! And I love Porto’s too 😋😋😋
The second stop will have me in there all the time. I love fruit tarts or any baked goods with fruit or jam in it.
Even if they cost $9.50 a slice or $56 for a whole pie?

I love bakery tours ❤
Most LA bakeries are always so packed! Great video!
I really enjoy this style of video. I hope we can see more
I enjoyed your bakery tour. I live a few hours away from LA and haven't tried any of those bakeries. Really cool that your family was in aerospace!!! Hope you didn't get a tummy ache from all those sweets. ❤

Love your food tours!! Love your excitement! Wishing you could take you with me. 😊
I was fun watching. I wish you would have shown more of you eating the food.
Looks like a good and delicious time had by all!!
