When I was in high school, I participated in the Academic Decathlon. A classmates parents took the entire team out to eat at Phillipe's. But we felt so self conscious and bad about imposing on them that we all ordered the cheapest thing on the menu - a cheese sandwhich. The expression on our faces when we received a block of cheese. We all politely ate our blocks of cheese and then got $1 tacos after lying to his parents that we were full. 😂😂

This one was a banger. I like this kind of video. I hope many more are to follow. You are clearly creative and don't need my suggestions so how about a sort of wish list, just in case you have been thinking about one of these places already. How about a couple diners from movies or TV? Does not even need to be famous, just in a film/on the screen. I love Californian vegan food content since CA has 804 bergillions tons of vegetables growing in it. A dying breed episode may be dope with stuff like a haberdasher, cobbler, film developer, The Tadich Grill, bathhouse, or something weird like boat delivery or drone delivery. Places that have great food but aren't restaurants could be sick. Sorta like maybe the roller rink has the country's best nachos or a dispensary that has smoked BBQ or the only place in all of LA that serves... Really looking forward to more!!!
Loved your taking L.A. public transportation. Imo, Coles has a better French Dip. In Little Tōkyō better to do a California roll at Mitsuru Sushi & Grill not that the Cal Roll is so much better, but it captures a down home Japanese American ambiance unlike the touristy place you went to. Liked your knowledge of obscure L.A. food lore such as C.C. Brown and Brown Derby. Next time, how about Manual's El Tepeyac for Hollenbeck Burrito in East Los, Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake, Langer's for Pastrami, in Mac Arthur Park, Frolic Room Bar in Hollywod next to Pantages, Grand Central Market in DTLA.
Fabulous video, loved the metro trips from one location to another, you’re a brave man, LA transit can be scary these days. I was thoroughly entertained and can’t for many more adventures from you. 👏
The original location where the hot fudge sunday was invented was at C.C. Brown, just west of Grauman's Chinese Theater on Hollyweird Blvd.. I agree, The Apple Pan hickory burger and apple pie is the best. I saw Rob Lowe eating there once. Counter seating only.
Great video! If you go to Phillipe The Original, get the lamb, double dipped, and go on the day they are serving the French Onion Soup! It is to die for!
When I was in college in the early 70s, Tommy’s at Ramparts was a finals week rescue at 2:00 a.m. And part of the attraction was watching the staff making your burgers and dogs with lightning speed at the little stand as the line snaked slowly by. Glass bottle Cokes and stuffing your face in your car in the parking lot across the street. Haven’t been there in many years, but now I’m thinking road trip.
Enjoyed the video especially since he visited two of my favorite LA eateries, Philippe and the original Tommy’s. Just one question: who unwraps a Tommy’s chili burger to eat it?! The paper wrapper helps keep it all together while eating.
Lawry's Prime Rib on La Cienega still uses C.C. Brown's hot fudge in their sundae. You can also purchase C.C. Brown's hot fudge by the jar there as well.
I've never been a big hot dog person but, I used to eat the Pastrami Burritos from the original Danny Dogs location on S.M. and Gardner and when I moved to northern CA. I convinced a local pub to add it to their menu. Back in the 80's I remember the Original Tommy's having lines half way around the block after the bars closed and it was so weird to be standing in line in front of apartment buildings and couldn't even see Tommy's. They were so fast you would have your food in your hands before you could put your change in your pocket.
i love seeing this love for LA, especially with public transport. I'm a frequent rider on it and honestly I just love the journey of going on bus/train to wherever I'm headed to. You meet different people and see different sites. I still feel like I haven't seen everything in the city, but again its part of the journey being from here.
My in-laws lived in L.A. since the 40's. When I visit them, they always take us to Phillipe's (sawdust on the floor and the hot mustard and endless homemade goodies); Tommy's and Little Tokyo' ramen and sushi restaurants, to name a few. They take us great places and hole-in-the-wall joints that were incredible, Some not around any longer; Pup n' Taco, Pioneer Chicken, Foster Freeze, Empress Pavilion, etc. Honorable mentions are El Tapeyac, Pie N' Burger, etc. One iconic place that closed (sadly) during the pandemic was latterly a hole-in-the-wall called Pecos Bill in Glendale, 76-year old hidden gem; sold Oki BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches, etc.; Prayers! Then were are all the historic and famous Deli's on the West side. Yes, L.A. is a foodies' paradise and always has been. And a side note - They always had a car or two; they would never take public transportation or even know how to in L.A. Walking is, let's say, is a fantasy.
I enjoy your vibes here! Very LA!! 10/10 on LA score for this video!!! No but seriously, a very comforting, nourishing kind of video you made here. I've had enough of the flashy edited, MrBeast style videos. Subscribed and hope to see you do more of these!!!
I knew of it in fact I probably drove by it a thousand times but never knew what it was. I’ll pass. Why mess with Mother Nature, a great hot dog and a great pastrami sandwich were not meant to mate.

I really enjoyed the video! It was refreshing how laid back and genuine your video was. Looking forward to more uploads :)
@@PattyCake1993-t4o so glad you liked it! Hope to post more soon!
Wow I’m going take this down next time I go !! Thank you for letting us know !!
Also ask for extra au jus (the beef juice), to dip your french dip sandwich in.
Add blue cheese to it. The lamb, the strong cheese and the mustard all work together so well.
@@Codenamex47
100% on the blue cheese!
That stuff is magic!
your dad is a horse radish 😂😂😂 ngl that got me good LOL
Philippe’s! It’s like time traveling. Great sandwiches but you have to try the homemade mustard.
Haven’t been there in many years, but now I’m thinking road trip.
thank u for making this! great video :D made me crave tommys >:D
Me too 🤤
Enjoyed the video especially since he visited two of my favorite LA eateries, Philippe and the original Tommy’s.
Got this video on my algorithm right when I’ve been super homesick for CA. Subscribed and liked, thanks for posting!
More of this. Glad the algorithm is doing its thing
I love the random Armenian ad and recipe for the Cobb salad
Did the sushi have cucumber or not? This was a very enjoyable 24 minutes. Thank you. My gf and I will copy a lot of this food trip!
Chili cheese burger looks SO DAMN GOOD! Pickle every bite. Messier the better.
Love LA and LA county we truly have everything!
Going to the OG Tommy’s is some real LA sh** ❤
Great vid. Made me chuckle and hungry at the same time. Keep at it and can’t wait for the next one!
Chunger. The most powerful emotion 😌
i subscribed before the oki dog segment was over. good stuff man, makes me want to do this myself
Hell yah! Happy to have you!
My mom went to Tommy’s on Rampart the night before she gave birth to me in 1961.
My man is Groucho Marx and I love it what a great video 😂
Great video, keep up the good work, new subscriber here! 🤩 Can't wait to go back and visit Los Angeles, I NEED an oki dog ASAP 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Such a great video. As a life long Angelino, I really appreciated this food tour.
Since you were in Little Tokyo you could have visited the birthplace of the fortune cookie at a little mochi spot, Fugetsudo.
This is such a good video. super informative and interesting🎉 subscribed
Omg. Thank you for subbing! I’m so glad you liked it.
This was great. Would love to see some more content similar to this.
Glad you enjoyed it! Check back in! More to come soon.
Great video, I like your voice, the chill music, good reviews and descriptions, new sub!
Instantly started sweating when you ate that beef dip 😆😆 that mustard is hot AF! But you played it cool
😅caught me heehee
Wow TWO chili meals before 11:30am? Thank you for your service
If you're ever in the area again, there is a Philipino place on Temple & Rampart called Tita Lina's that sells huge plates for around $13
Also, thank you so much for still wearing a mask indoors
Thanks for the rec. I'll have to check it out!
Brian, you are on your way to top notch content, great challenge video!
as a Angeleno that had no car till my late 20s, this is a really nostalgic trip. Great job
Awesome job wearing a mask! Way to represent! Thank you!
Thank you for showing off all the public transit. Its awesome
Nice, chill day. Never heard of the Oki dog so that’s cool to learn about
I knew of it in fact I probably drove by it a thousand times but never knew what it was. I’ll pass. Why mess with Mother Nature, a great hot dog and a great pastrami sandwich were not meant to mate.
Your energy is so relaxing and this was the perfect mix of review and info 😊
I greatly loved this content popping up on my feed, when i’m not exploring the city I can explore it vicariously through your wonderfully put-together content! From the transit aspect to the detailed history facts, this video was a 10/10 on my LA score 🫶🏼
