The flaring issue has a MASSIVE difference and improvement on the Viltrox. It's the one main reason I watched this video, and it makes no sense how you just brushed over it after making a full video on that exact issue.
I was about to type the same thing here. Please elaborate on the purple flare issue on Viltrox. It seems..... way better?
@@bobbyarnoldfilms I ended up buying the Viltrox - and yep there is no flare issue in comparison to all the footage I've seen of Canons speedbooster.
As mentioned in a comment below, there is some vignetting when shooting in raw (I'm not sure if it's on every lens type). This may occur on the canon one too, i'm not sure. It's not the worst but just something to be aware of.
Was there a mistake in the flare test? You were saying that the purple flare is present on both speedboosters. The Canon speedbooster has a painfully obvious purple flare in the middle of the frame while the Viltrox does not.
Same here, Josh could elaborate more please¡¡
“Purple flare present in both of them” when There’s a massive difference, is a strange conclusion.
Right? I had to pause at 7:25. Bizarre he said that.
Dude, you are a champ, thank you for this!!
I actually trust canon viltrox boosters. I had one one for my old ef M mount. What can I say... it totally worked!
Nice!
Truely helpful for me to choose one! so the original canon adaptor is not a perfect one and this one is a good alternative
I don’t think you mentioned this, but recently I shot with a 24-105, viltrox speed booster, and a c70 in raw. The raw defaults to 17:9 and all of the corners had vignetting that had to be corrected. Not a huge deal, but I was kind of surprised when I got back to the computer. Just something for people to be aware of.
that’s excellent review
Is it just me, or does the Viltrox actually look better? Especially with the flare? And now that the pro version is out, it should take care of the jiggle? Wonder is there a big difference with lens compatibility.
Same question. Did I miss something? How the rest of the frame looked like?
Thank you as usual Josh, do you ( or someone of you ) notice some loss of quality using the viltrox speed booster comprare to the footage without adaptor ? Thank you !! I'm thinking to use it on my r5 in crop mode...
Interesting that the shape of the bokeh changes a lot with the Viltrox! (well.. maybe not a lot) but the shapes of the background are definitely not so soft like with the Canon... pity!
If the lens is loose when using the Viltrox, then the contacts could loose contact between each other as well which could result in intermittent loss of communication. Especially is using run and gun and you have cages and ancillary equipment. Could be a big issue. But i thought Canon did not allow 3rd party RF
Did I miss something? How the rest of the frame looked like? Viltrox seems to do much better in terms of flares.
This is a superb review! Thank you very much for your work Josh.

You’re welcome. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I heard that you used the Sony FX6? Did you move onto the canon?
Hey Josh, awesome videos and great work... I am on your channel cause of R7 and i saw a video where the viltrox ef-r3 didnt supported the ibis with the sigma 18-35. It the IBIS working with the viltrox and the c70/r7 ? Or did you know anything about that?
Thanks! I didn't test that because I wouldn't use the Sigma 18-35 with a speedbooster. It is a crop sensor lens.
@@Josh_Sattin I was just curious if the IBIS support is a viltrox speedbooster problem or just a specific lens problem. If you apply EF fullframe glas and the cameras IBIS doesnt work would be a no go for me.
was that just me or viltrox seems to have poorer glass quality? noticed some aberrations on focus test.
Hi, have u tried the viltrox r3 for taking photos? Does the pic show dark corners? Thanks
I think there is a way to take a photo with the C70 but I haven’t tried it. You can see the coverage and lack of vignetting on the image quality test in this video. In UHD 4K there is a 1.53 crop on the C70. I didn’t see any darkening in the corners.
Hi does it work with telephoto lens like 100 400 and 150 600. I could use the extra light in the forest. I have canon r10.
It should work with any full frame EF lens.
Have you had a chance to test this on crop mode on R5? (For very long shoots I use 4k crop mode because its WAY sharper than regular 4k)
I haven't yet, but it has been on my list of videos for a while. Yeah the 4K crop mode on the R5 is awesome and it doesn't overheat!
@@Josh_Sattin would love to see a video on that (if you think it's worth the effort, of course). The metabones speed booster is very expensive, and the canon speed booster on the R5 seems to give weird messages with certain lens, which is why I haven't purchased it, I worry it won't work on my Tamron/Sigma glass. I suspect the viltrox is going to give an all around good performance with no intentional canon C hammering.
ACTUALLY, I looked it up on Amazon and they have a capability list, and all the R cameras are there and a list of lens too. :)
So, does somebody have tried the original from Canon with smaller cameras like R or R5? I heard a bit of everything and I can´t find if yes actually works or not... Thanks for the video by the way!
You’re welcome! I tried both adapters on the R5 and they worked. I was playing with using the speedbooster with the crop mode since it doesn’t overheat. It worked great.
@@Josh_Sattin Cool!!! Then I think the original from canon could be a great option overall ..
I had a Viltrox on my BMPCC 4K and it gave me issues after time
That's a bummer! Thanks for sharing your experience though.
@redeemed what were the issues you ran into?
