Of all things soccer, my biggest love is IQ. I love disecting this part of the game. People look at the best teams in Europe and think, it's technique and athleticism but what people don't realize is without decision making and IQ, you can be the most athletic and have the best technique in history and look like the worst player on the field. Messi and Ronaldo are where they are at just as much because of IQ than any other part of the game. Yes, they have several other qualities that are integral. But none I believe more important than IQ. I can analyze IQ and decision making for hundreds of hours and never get tired. Even more so than technique. There's always level to IQ. But for US soccer, I think you're right.
My tactical IQ grew 10x once I left the U.S to play overseas. We focus too much on the physicality of the game + because of the U.S. culture, typically kids don't grow up watching/being around high-level leagues/clubs. when you grow up in that environment and culture where football is everywhere and it's more accessible/closer to you, it really makes a difference. one of the reasons I improved my soccer IQ playing in Europe has been being able to watch so much more of the top leagues. I'm in the same time zone/everyone here watches the games anyways so it's not like you have to accommodate your schedule to do so.
Let's not forget that the top US players on the National Team all left US to play overseas. So the facts as you state are there for all of us to notice.
Wow Nunca me imaginé esta colaboración, hace 2 años que empecé a seguir tu canal and 1 year ago the Matt's Chanel 🥺 Cuándo tendremos el honor de verlos juntos JPablo? 😙
I have to thank you, for the past 2 years I have been training on my own and was lost and you’ve helped me so much, I’ve improved 100 fold because of people like you so thank you.
Improving by playing on every Position on the field and then knowing how others on this position would react and through that, knowing how to beat them
Q&A: how did you handle your transition from bieng a foward player to bieng a defender? Did you decide to play Rightback or was it recommended by your past coaches and managers?
AJ is from the keys just from where iam so proud of him. He is the goat here in the keys so happy to see him. You think you can do like a little interview with him?
Improving football IQ is so important, and having someone else analyse footage with you can help you recognise things you wouldn’t see on your own! Have a look at our channel and website, we offer an analysis service for players from your own game footage! (Matt if you see this we would love to do one for you and see what you think)
I saw your channel for football IQ but I think it's vague. I know you are giving players an idea but I think a lot of players watch and don't know how close they are supposed to watch and understand what's happening. You have to go really in depth. I don't know if you are not willing to show your camera on face or not but I wouldn't mind doing a podcast where we discuss in more detail
@@CoachOlali the videos on the channel are just a glimpse at examples of the services we offer for players. If you look on the website we make tactical coaching videos from your game footage for you to keep and study closely, as well as an option to go through footage together live on zoom!
Q+A: is it better to be on orthodox position i.e. playing as right winger or right back while being as right footed player, as a non academic player rather than being playing as a more advance role such as False-9,Inverted Fullback,Inverted winger or Libero! As in my opinion it's better to be orthodox as you can do the required role properly example:- Being on the right wing as right footed, it's easy for player to dribble and cross the ball rather than playing on left wing as Inverted winger. What's your opinion on this?
Hey Matt, great video very helpful. I wanted to ask what are the few things you wish you knew earlier that would have helped you to progress in your career a bit faster and efficiently. Simply , the things you learned the harder way that would have saved you some more time. Thank you as always.
Knowing that it's a simple game. Of course, you can watch and hear all you want but if you are not playing the game as well as studying the game then it doesn't matter. The more you play, the more opportunities you get to see what weaknesses you have in your game because every game can teach you something about your decision making. In short, play as much as possible
This is actually a good question. I think you didn't word it very well but it's a great question. First off, every player thinks they know their strenghts but I have noticed that several players base their strengths based on the position they WANT to play and not where their strengths actually lie. I think it's best to ask multiple coaches and players where your strengths lie. You will learn that coaches always have an idea for where a player best fits their team because coaches can see different strengths in each player. And to be honest, many times coaches completely miss the mark on the potential of a player. That's why it's good to ask several coaches. Jose Mourinho did not see the potential of Salah but Roma did. And at Roma, Salah thrived. Same with Kevin DeBruyne. He did not succeed under Mourinho but he did at Werder Bremen and look at where he is now. Sometimes, you have a player like Phillip Lahm or Kimmich play right back but other coaches think their best position is defensive mid. This is a very good question and is by no means a simple question to answer.
Maybe is too late to tell you but I personally think you should choose it based off your strenghts and what you like. If you choose it only by your strenghts you might end up playing somewhere you don't like and if you choose it by what you like you might end up where you don't fit at all. That's why I think your position should be somewhere you like but are also a decent player on it. Also note that you cna also get better at a position or like it more, the more you play on it

Honestly, this feels like one of the biggest weaknesses of US soccer. There's a lot of athleticism but not a lot of creativity and vision.
OH My Lord, you read my mind. Like seriously though! Not even trying to be mean but like cmon
Maybe you could try for a RB/LB position… if you aren’t playing there already
