In this video we'll explore the history of the roller coaster manufacturer; from it's formation all the way to the exciting developments seen within late 2018.

It would mean a lot to us if you could nominate Coaster Bot as the "Best Established Channel" with the 2018 Clamshell Awards! To do so head to the following link and read the instructions. Consider nominating us, and your favourites, for the various other categories also: www.cupcakesandcoasters.com/2018/11/the-clamshell-awards-2018.html
@Mr. Roller Coasters Btw 'Thousands' implies that it is plural.
@Mr. Roller Coasters Right now you can only nominate, voting comes afterwards! Make sure to nominate your favourites :)
COASTER BOT how do i nominate you?
Head to the link and the following the instructions towards the bottom of the page :)
Great casters international shod be defunded and custom casters international needs to be back in business again
And the gravity Group shod not be abused and Schwarzkopf shod be in business again to
You can actually hear Harry get more emotional when he begins speaking about Wicker Man
This is too true ;)
Maybe the only manufacturer that you simply can't hate.
I couldn't agree more! :)
What about RMC?
@@downsideupcoasters7377 A bit controversial.
Brian Spijkers um Rocky Mountain construction
@@braydenmunger8391 some people don't like steel and wood together.
CCI Ghostrider was more intense, but GCI Ghostrider is more comfortable, plus they got rid of the mid-course brake run which is awesome. Now that ride consistently has the longest line in the park
I'm glad they managed to make it more popular! :)
And great casters international destroy a classic wooden caster
The "Explained" series are some of my favorite videos. Awesome work.
Glad you like it, thank you :)
Yeah GCI's are great. Though I've only gotten to ride a few rides which has had their involvement I can safely say that one of their coasters, Joris en de draak to be exact is amongst my all time favorites with it's snappy transitions, Fairly smooth riding and forces. That thing does wacky things you wouldn't expect at all and I love it!.
Awesome to hear! :)
DrDewott i hate that snappyness i broke my neck like a 10000 times haha
DrDewott no there great casters international roller casters sucks they should be defunct
I love the gravity Group better
@@tobyzillaogchannel7292 Well I've only ridden one gravity group coaster so I can't make too much of an opinion. (Fyi that coaster is Twister at Gröna Lund)
You’re 1st Gravity Group Wooden roller caster was real and older
Great casters international frum 1996 to 2007 there wooden casters were real frum 2008 to present
Those wooden roller casters are fake
Great video! One thing though, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's Roar, which opened in 1999, was the first ride to feature Millennium Flyer trains, not Lightning Racer which opened a year later.
Thanks, and so it did! Weird how Roar had Millennium Flyers and opened before Gwazi which didn't feature Millennium Flyers. Apologies I must have skipped over the ride during research phases because of that fact. Thanks for letting me know! :)
COASTER BOT, and they were a lot heavier too. More like a prototype if you ask me
Thankfully I was able to ride Roar at SFDK before the Conversion to an RMC. It was a fantastic ride and its conversion is a good mix of GCI and RMC design.
Eaglescout217, we need more tunnels like the roars.
Go discovery kingdom
Wow, Harry, this was really helpful! Normally, I foreknow most of the information in your Explained videos, but this was an exception, as I often get wooden manufacturers confused! Great watch!
Glad to hear you've learnt a lot from this video, thank you! :)
Awesome video! GCI is one of my favorite coaster manufacturers! I would like to see CP get one since Mean Steeak got turned into Steel Vengeance. :)
Thank you! That would be a good addition :)
Steel Vengeance turned out alright
Wow that model looks breathtaking! I was living in Chicago before the 6 Flags / Great America opened and they had a model of the park with all the Intimen rides, it was like Sci Fi because we didn't really have much of that here in those days.
This is a prime example of highly informative and fun-to-watch videos. Thanks so much for your great work.
No problem, thanks for watching! :)
I would love to see Gravity Group explained. A highly underrated manufacturer with awesome coasters like Voyage and Ravine Flyer II
I hope to make that video in the future :) thanks for the suggestion
This channel is fantastic. Love these short and informative documentaries. Keep it up!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching, it means a lot :)
Really great quality video Harry, well done
Thank you, it means a lot :)
Finally an explained video on my favourite manufacturer
I've ridden a handful of GCI coasters over the years, and I can still say that my favorite is the defunct Ozark Wildcat. That ride had so much airtime in its small layout. There was the park there at the end where you were racing right above the ground and they had two "bucking bronco" hills that threw you out of your seat while racing at the top speed.
this was great! i love finding out the history behind manufacturers!
Thank you, that's fantastic to hear :)
Millennium flyer trains are so nice and comfortable. I'm amazed at how few coasters have padding on their seats.
You'll find lots of wooden roller coasters with padded seats. They are nice though I agree :)
@@coasterbot huh I guess I haven't really been on many Woodies, but I can't think of a steel that I've been on with padding as nice as the gci trains
Gotta love when your boy coaster bot puts a coaster from your *cough* underrated *cough* home park in the thumbnail. American Thunder for life 👌🏻
Sadly I haven’t ridden a true GCI coaster but I’ve ridden Ghostrider at Knotts Berry Farm and that was a very fun ride!
Also like this comment if you’re obsessed with tilted break runs ;)
Eh they are just ok I’m a small person they bang the hell out of me I’ve rode Thunderhead(AKA I call chatterhead
Wickerman!!!
Overrated
Great video! This is why I bought your merch!
Awesome, double thank you :)
I rode Wildcat opening week, I've looked for new GCI coasters near wherever I am ever since. I've loved every one I have ridden.
Awesome to hear! :)
Wicker man is brilliant , the quick turns and the speed takes you by surprise and is smooth well done GCI
I couldn't agree more :)
GCI Headquarters are about 15min from where I live and you'd thick they'd have this huge building as headquarters, but it's actually rather small. I'd imagine they have other locations where everything else is done.
"Plopsaland de Pon" hahah, quality vid as always!
Thank you :)
I loved this video.I requested this one too cause I love GCI.I thought I left a comment but I can.t find it so again these, are your best videos.Keep making more
That's great to hear, thank you! You did leave a comment before :)
Great Coasters International does make Great coasters! I was riding a GCI last night (Gold Striker at CGA). Great Video!
Awesome to hear, and thank you :)
Loved the video! Do a Pinfari Explained, I really would like to see that 🤔
Thank you, I'll note that suggestion down :)
thank you for putting clips of my video in yours
No problem, thanks for letting me, it means a lot :)
Hey I'm enjoying your manufacturer 'explained' series, some great facts about the history of the coaster makers. Are you planning to do an Intamin explained video? They are one of my favorites along with B&M. Thanks and keep it up!
That's great to hear! We are planning to make a video about Intamin in the future, stay tuned :)
Wood coaster looks so fun. I must ride it one day
Jake Holmes Marden wooden casters are fake thay feel more like steal roller casters
Older wooden casters feel more like real wooden casters like ones from the 1920s
@@tobyzillaogchannel7292 just like how modern steel coasters don't feel like those rough 'real' Arrow coasters from the 70's?
Nice GCI video!
Thank you :)
Top quality content as always
Thanks Ben :)
Great vid man
Thank you! :)
Finally a Coaster video where the narrator actually pronounce Knoebels right
Ha ha thank you ;)
Super stoked that they are building my parks new ride, I’m not one to ride coasters at all. But after seeing this, and some of your other informational videos, I think I just might when the coaster opens next year.
I live about 10 minutes from Kings Island. I absolutely love mystic timbers and can not wait to ride more GCIs
Awesome to hear, GCI's are honestly fantastic! :)
Only GCI I’ve ridden is American Thunder at SFSTL. LOVED IT!
Awesome to hear! :)
Iron Rattler Fanboy my first gci roller caster was Kentucky rumbler
Great video! Wodan is my personal favourite GCI and my number 2 overall. It rates so high for me because of the amazing theming. Still need to ride Wicker Man though
Thank you! Wodan is fantastic, without a doubt :)
You forgot my boi Renegade!
Hey Harry! Another quality vid!
Thank you :)
You know whats missing? A Intamin: Explained! it would be amazing of you to make that Harry!
We hope to do that in the future, stay tuned! :)
Just nominated your channel. Will watch this video but first I need to watch all the football matches. Love ur channel.
Thank you it means a lot! Enjoy watching football! :)
@@coasterbot yeah. Just watched the video. Great as always. :)
You know a coaster company is good when you can still ride its very first creation. I was surprised to learn that Lightning Racer debuted Millennium Flyer trains, and that Wildcat didn't always have them.
Yup, Wildcat ran with PTC trains for 11 years actually. It opened in 1996 but didn't receive the MF trains until 2007. I rode it several times years ago with the PTC trains and it actually ran pretty rough with them, causing it to gain a mixed reputation among enthusiasts. Even after they switched it to MF trains, it still ran rough for a while. Many people had wanted RMC to come in and remake the coaster which I have been completely against. I never found the coaster to be unridable compared to other woodies or even some steel coasters out there. Recently, Hersheypark has done a lot of track work to it and has it running better than ever! It was never as smooth as Lightning Racer, but it's about as close now. I actually think Wildcat ran faster with the PTC trains though as I've heard they carry more weight than the MF trains do.
I never truly cared for gci attractions until I ridden more wooden coasters over the summer. When I first rode mystic timbers I wasn’t impressed. But as my preferences became more refined, I feel like gci’s wooden coasters are one of my favorite models. Thanks for making this video. 👌🏼
Glad to hear you've come to like them. No problem, thanks for watching! :)
Man, any GCI I go on always leaves a smile on my face. If I ever make it to Alton Towers I am gonna make sure to run to Wicker man first.
Awesome to hear, it's the same for me honestly :)
Sorry I'm late, great video as always harry!
Thanks :)
Great Video!!!
Thank you! :)
COASTER BOT No Problem!! :)
Coaster, Canada’s oldest still operational roller coaster located at Playland At The PNE in Vancouver, BC could use new trains. Only one train is currently being used on Coaster which results in long wait times in a queue that isn’t shaded and gets uncomfortable on hot days. Maybe GCI could make Millennium Flyers for Coaster…
they do make some great coasters
I agree! :)
Me too
Clonecommander Tom the gravity Group is better then great casters international is garbage
Violet and Toby zilla GCI and Gravity Group are both great manufacturers imo
and Internationally
What another great video!I’m loving them!
Thanks Shane :)
My first GCI was Invadr and I didn't know what I was going to expect going on it. I thought it would be just another slow bumpy wooden coaster but that sucker was smooth and fast. The POV videos of it don't do the coaster justice
Awesome I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
3:36 Was that guy in the first row eating or holding a loose article?
Another awesome video, Harry! Perhaps a given, but hope you'll do an Intamin video, too :3
Thank you very much. Intamin will come soon, don't worry! :)
COASTER BOT what is: rockwork
Can you do a what is: Antelope at gullivers as it is extremely hard to find some of the stats and I’m very interested in that rare credit.
I'll note that down, thanks for the suggestion :)
5:32. I live 20 minutes from plopsaland. That wooden coaster is my favorite. Heidi the ride.
Plopsaland is located in Belgium.
He showed Heidi the ride 5 times.
Great video
Thank you :)
Can you do arrow dynamics explained? Thanks
I'll note that down, thanks for the suggestion :)
I wish I could ride more GCIs as they look to be some Rod the most fun roller coasters on earth
So you're telling me that GCI also provides services to improve structural flaws?
Me: *GCI SON OF BEAST*
i've only ridden one wooden coaster in my life, it was Thundercoaster at Tusenfryd. built by Vekoma but a large part of the track was rebuilt by GCI in 2008
awesome, is it good? :) X
@@coasterbot Yes. it's very good!
I really like your videos!! Can u please make a RMC and premier launch Explained??!👍🙏😃
Thank you. I'll note those suggestions down :)
COASTER BOT ok thank you!! I’m gonna hold u 2 it lol 😃😆
Could you premier your next explained, i loved the phantoms revenge atmosphere
I'm hoping to do a premier for the next video coming out, so we'll see how that goes and I'll take it from there :)
Well, your videos might not be the most exciting or hilarious, but the quality is definitely there (you’re also a chill dude who pays attention to others which is excellent 👍); so uh, ya, have another subscriber ;p
Thank you, it means a lot :)
I'm pretty sure White Lightning's steel support frame is basically the reason why that ride continues to be smooth in an area notorious for outright destroying wooden coasters due to environmental conditions.
Exactly!
All 3 GCI coasters I've been on are in my top 10 (Heidi, Joris en de Draak, Troy). It's probably my favourite manufacturer (until I do some RMCs)
The only GCI I've ridden is Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. It was my favorite roller coaster when it was still running.
Awesome to hear, hopefully you can ride some more as I've heard the newer ones are better! :)
There’s some woodies that just shouldn’t get RMC’d
I thought that this was a premiere
let's hope that there will be an Arrow Dynamics: Explained so can't wait for it Toaster BOT but only if it comes out
There may be one day, who knows! :)
Could you do an explained video on Alton Towers? I know how much you like it seeing as how you have at least one Alton rollercoaster featured in your videos
I hope to in the future :) thanks for the suggestion
"whats your favorite wood coaster?" "Wood Coaster." "Whut?"
That was greattt
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! :)
Can you do Dinn coasters next and the story behind them?
I know there are plenty of popular (and rides) by them
I'll note this down, thanks for the suggestion :)
can you do gravity group explained?
We hope to in the future, stay tuned :)
GCI developed out of the need for amusement parks to add new coasters in the middle of the Great Recession. Build the smallest coaster possible on the smallest footprint of land and then build the tallest lift hill that the park can afford. Parks that went real big now have a GCI coaster which is either so rough you can't ride it twice in a day or it has already been torn down or reworked by some other coaster design company.
Only a single GCI roller coaster has been majorily reworked by another company. It's rare that GCI rides are torn down.
My home park is LaRonde and we have an old PTC dueling woodie.
I know that they can't RMC it, but let's hope that GCI reprofiles it with new trains, track and a better layout.
Also, can you do PTC explained?
Quality as normal.
Love your content coaster bot
Thank you, that means a lot :)
Ive only ridden amaricain theunder at six flags st.lious but next year im riding renagades and mystic timbers so i get to ride some top 10 gcis
ian coasters I live near valley fair and I ride renegade a lot
great vid
Thank you :)
I love GCI, probably my second favorite coaster manufacturer (that Allan Schilke is just my kind of crazy), crazy rides from start to finish that don’t let you get used to any particular force or element, definitely my style of rides. And then magic mountain comes in and thinks they can re-track a masterpiece; well we all saw what happened last time they did that, let’s hope this time isn’t the same, otherwise they’re going to ruin a gem (the coaster that changed my view of coasters actually, I used to think taller faster and longer was better, but after Terminator my idea of a good coaster warped, just like the track; thank you GCI for showing me the light ❤️)
As you said, rides don't need to be record breakers to be great! :)
You should do, Premier Rides: Explained :D
Great suggestion, I'll note that down :)
Goed video! But where is Joris en de draak at Efteling?
Thank you, unfortunately not all of the companies roller coasters can be featured!
Awe you forgot about renegade at Valley Fair in Shakopee, Minnesota. It was opened in 2007 and made by GCI
There are too many rides constructed by GCI to talk about in only a single video, that's why we discussed only a handful here :)
I feel like I have to comment because the effort in these videos isn’t justified by just a like.
That's very kind of you :)
Thanks for the bday present
Happy Birthday!
Going to a factory tour here in the near future. Great Video Harry.. oh yea Knoebels get a GCI! They are only 20m from you!!
Oh damn, I'm very jealous! :)
What exactly do they have at their factory? I drove by the gravity group headquarters (it’s really close to cincy) and as I suspected it was just an office.
The Ride Analyst Channel they work on the track there and at Gravity Group they do the same and make the trains there.. so you should have been able to see that if you took a tour
New Jersey Coasters hmmm I wonder if I had passed up the train fabrication facility at gci then 👀
(Correction: at gravity group I mean)
Maybe name “Joris and de draak” from the Efteling at the dueling gci coasters.
Very interesting to hear about the origins of GCI. "Great" video as always. :)
ha ha thank you ;)
Solid video, but I have 1 major complaint. You forgot American Thunder, which opened in 2008. Nonetheless, you did great.
WDW Space Mountain Fanatic I don’t know that he “forgot” it. It just wasn’t a comprehensive list of all GCIs; many other big GCIs weren’t named (e.g., Gold Striker and Renegade).
Btw, I love American Thunder and think it’s hugely underrated.
Exactly, many rides were missed but the manufacturers story was explained :)
Although Gwazi was the first, it was so rough 😊
8:07 the model was unveiled in 2018
What’s your favourite wooden ride mines wickerman
Right now it's Wodan at Europa Park :)
great please do rmc
We hope to in the future :)
I've only ridden one GCI and CCI. There both fun.
Awesome to hear! :)
Pennsylvania represent
Here in ‘murica we got the two best manufacturers (RMC and GCI)
GCI, CCI, ICI. Yo many C’s and I’s!
I’ve been on Troy and Joris en de Draak
Tbh. I'm surprised it took a coaster manufacturer as long as it did to come up with a station fly through
Fun Fact: Wood Coaster at Knight Valley is actually called Mountain Flyer
Is it a gci or cci or a gravity Group or ptc or is it even wooden
