I absolutely love my granite 3s. I have the green one. And from all the reviews I’ve seen of the MT10, it’s damn near indestructible. My local hobbytown just never seems to have them in stock. But I will definitely get one eventually 😎
9:20 put some pad under the motor end for support (3M Bumpon 3,5mm height), use arrma slipper sleeve for extra durability on the slipper clutch (stock on arrma 4s v2). Send it ! Nice Flipps. 25mm Yeah Racing Fan is plug and play for the ESC or Rocket 25mm fan if you change the connector or use a 30mm Fan Adapter 3d printed. On the Motor its an easy swap 30mm rocket.
What a great suggestion! Im actually waiting on delivery of my MT10v2 and although the problem doesnt seem as prevolent in the rival im going to install a support under the motor from day one.
We have a Granite 4×4 converted to a brushless set-up, 3900kv motor- everything updated. It's been great . Haven't bent our Blx motor mount yet.. but i gotta say i really like the Mt 10 also. It drives a little more stable and you could always make it faster.. Good review and nice jumps. 🤘
Great video, Evan. Loads of useful info in there, for anyone considering either. I reckon Ive spent a bit more on our Mt10 than our Big Rock but much of that comes down to a replacement motor as I bought it 2nd hand. For anyone interested, the blx system from a breakers like Jennys or a hobbywing will deliver the shortfall in power between the two. We have a Max10SCT in our MT10 with a 3200kv hobbywing g2 motor...... and its the exact equal of our BR with its stock blx electronics. 15t Arrma pinion on the MT10 and 17t on the BR. Worth also considering the new Hobbywing BL120 esc as a terrific value upgrade over stock on the MT10. Weve bent the motor mounts in both cars and while there are heaps of aftermarket upgrades for the 3S arrmas from the likes of m2c, CRCU and Oktays, no one (yet) makes one for the Mt10. We had the same problem on the Mt10 that Evan identifies - due to the design of the Mt10s mount, its easy for the screw to come undone (loctite it!) and the mesh to slip and when that happens you can wreck the spur gear. Weve also broken the MT10s wheelie bar, rear driveshafts and front A-arms. Both Mt10 and Big Rock now have RPMs and we've had no problems since. I think the Mt10 suspension is significantly plusher and a common (but expensive) upgrade for the 3S Arrmas are the 6S shocks. Once fitted, the Arrmas handle brilliantly, albeit without the extra benefit of the centre diff. Talking of which, Arrma 3S diffs seem noticeably less durable than Team Associated ones, when fed a pure 3S diet. A (relatively) inexpensive upgrade to the Arrma diffs is to fit an aluminium yoke from RCAWD or Hot Racing and that extends their life significantly. All metal diffs are also available from Jennys and others as they come standard on the Arrma 4S v2 range and are a direct fit. Unless people want to replicate the back2back tests done in this video I actually wouldnt reccomend owners of one to buy the other but to get something similarly sized but more different. If youve got an MT10, Id reccomend a Big Rock, typhon or Senton instead of a Granite. At least you'll get a different driving experience. If you already have a Granite, get some worthwhile upgrades for it instead of an MT10. Just my opinion, of course but having an MT10 and a Big Rock I like them both very much. Very interesting to see you using an HV Lipo. These are discussed surprising rarely and I think its a common preconception that you have to have an ESC that is specifically HV compatible.
Nice info! I'm trying to decide between the rival mt10 or the granite. At this point in time they are the about same price with the mt10 being now actually $10 more. Razor RC mentioned the mt10 is really more designed for 2s. Not sure if that's been your experience? What truck would you recommend? Thanks!
@pizzomedia7261 yes it’s a tough decision and wow I didn’t realize the MT upped in price. I see Razors point, in terms of as far as amperage goes, the mt10 system can handle 3s, but they’re still on the lower side of it. I do think I like the granite a bit more. BUT!!! I’m actually working on a video for the Vorteks, and you might be surprised with that one lol Should have that out in 2-3 more days.
@@DerbyCityRC thanks for the opinion! I think I would get the granite if it wasn't for the slipper clutch that everyone seems to dislike in the 3s line. Although, Arrma did replace the slipper clutch with a diff on the outcast 4s so maybe they will do that with 3s updated versions? The rival mt10 seems to have a better drivetrain overall. Still undecided, haha!
1:33 😂. Man I’ve been using my granite for around 4 months now and I’m so happy. Thanks for doing this review!!! I know one day I’ll also have the MT10 (personally I like it a little better and it has a center diff), but I went with the ARRMA one because I live in a place where hobby shops are super super rare to find, actually I went to USA to buy the RC, so Amazon is my hobby shop lol, and comparing the amount of parts that can be shipped to each car the granite won, decisive factor for me. Anyway thanks for sharing this amazing review, I’ll update you once I have my rival in some months :D
Glad you like it man!! I’m reviewing the vorteks too and it’s so awesome!! Lol Same with the mt10 obviously, it just doesn’t have the punch that the Arrmas have. It’s slightly more tame.
@@DerbyCityRC Jumm that’s very interesting man, for what I’ve seen on RUclips the vortex seems to be really cool too, slightly better electronics than the granite and the mt10. Can’t wait to see the next video, good luck and thanks for your answer :D
I have both of these are I think each is a great basher… I have just about every popular basher and nothing compare to the MT10 w/rpm arms durability. Both are awesome! Great video brother!
Thanks so much for that comparision. Thinking of replacing my dbx10 with one of those two, since the dbx feels like he breaks easy and has something everytime i take him out.
Hey there, I cant get my hands on a Granite here in Germany. Its sold out everywhere 😢 Do you have any experience with the Arrma Big Rock 3S or how does it compare to the MT10? Would love to hear your opinion. Btw...keep up the good work! Always fun to watch your stuff!
The Big Rock is supposedly the same thing as the granite except it has a longer wheelbase which could make it more stable. Most likely it’s pretty similar to the granite, but may not flip in the air quite like the granite does also due to that long wheelbase. For crazier driving I’d say the big rock and for better handling and being a little more tame, I’d say the mt10. I will have a Vorteks video coming out soon and if you can get that, that’s another good option. The better handling of the 3s Arrmas.
I'm curious which one would preform better on grass. I would think the Arma granite because of the extra power, weight and larger wheels. I'm considering get one but would be doing a lot of grass riding and I'm curious of your thoughts
The granite probably due to the extra power and larger wheels. They both do decent on grass though. Granite tips over so much easier though really anything tips easy on grass lol. Really is hard to say.
Awesome video again. I have a rival mt10 and an Arrma Big Rock. Really similar to the Granite but a longer chassis. For me the big rock is a the favorite. Both are awesome for sure. I did have the same red motor mount bend on the Big Rock. Both M2C and Hot Racing make upgraded ones that are stronger aluminum and have an extra thick aluminum piece added to totally prevent any possibility of bending.
Hi Evan. I’m new to the hobby and your channel. Great video! I’m considering the Granite. Being new how would I order wider arms for the Granite. I’d appreciate it if u could provide a link. PS. As a dad and a grandpa I love seeing you with the kids in the videos.
My MT10 has outlasted my Big Rock (RIP) , Vorteks (RIP), Typhon 3s and Senton (RIP). I've put the MT10 through hell and I've broken stuff but no way as often as the Arrmas. I wish the Arrmas had the longevity of the MT10 because they are fun as to drive. But they break and get worn out too quickly. My MT10 is still running and getting thrashed and loving it.
I am curious which parts made all those Arrma's "RIP"? I have launched, smashed, and crashed the heck out of our Arrma line up and they are still going strong. My kids have plowed 3s and 6s trucks into curbs at full speed and big air skate park landings/crashes resulting in minor damage - winter and summer use. Replaced a bumper and a wheelie bar. Curious how you are killing so many of your Arrma cars, are you over volting?
@@LGHTSPD675 They take physical abuse really well but over time things wear out and break constantly. My 3s line up just got cannibalised just to keep 1 or 2 of them running. What broke? Shocks Driveshafts (so many) Motors died - thank goodness for Banggood and cheap motors ESCs Spur gears (so many) Ring and pinion gears (so many) Did replace some of the plastic gears with CNC diff gears which helped but make the car very expensive. Now compare that to my Arrma Typhon 6s that is a tank and as tough as my MT10. They are both built to last. The Arrma 3s are not with lots of use.
It is weird how different people have different experiences. I’ve seen it with many different brands. One dude told me he breaks his hbx 16889 pro almost every time he takes it out, and I’ve maybe broken mine 3 times in 2 years lol
I see your body reinforcement method, which works well. I switched to using Clear Flex-Seal to reinforce my bodies. It takes about 3-4 light coats, but ends up a lot lighter. IF the body cracks, you probably won't notice because the Flex-Seal holds it together. It does make the body MUCH stiffer, I just like the ease of application. Give it a try and let me know what YOU think.
Thanks man! I actually tried it once but I think I only did one coat. The stuff in a can that you brush on? I remember it working ok, but again was only 1 coat.
No, it's in a spray can. If the windows are clear, make sure you mask them up from the inside or they will look foggy. It sprays on like clear paint. You can use a hair dryer to speed up the curring process between coats. Just go thin coats.. 3-4 is what I used.
I am with you, I have both the same trucks and both are my favorite. Both trucks are a beast, recently replaced my diffs on the Granite to metal diffs. The MT-10 with that 3300kv Reedy Motor has WAY MORE POTENTIAL, first thing I did was swapped on the ESC to a BLX 100, battery straps and added a motor fan. The MT-10 is just as fast as the Granite now. The MT-10 ESC doesn't do the car's justice at all, definitely deserves a better ESC. Granite needs better fans, I'm going to swap to WTF fans and that will help cool things down. With upgrades on both trucks, they are tanks, great video I definitely enjoyed it 👍🏻
WOW, that was really fun to watch. Been into RC flying for quite a while and have a couple of crawlers as well that I enjoy. I just ordered the MT10 V2 after watching your vid. Itll be my first basher and Im deff looking for TOUGH! My driving at this point I know sucks and I have a feeling my flips are gonna be ugly to start out with. Really enjoyed and picked up on your driving skills. Again a really fun and informative watch. Thank for putting it out there.
So I already received the Rival V2! Gotta love AMAZON. MAn thats a pretty car out of the box. I already feel bad about knowing what its going to look like in a few weeks! LOL. First thing I did was replace the receiver and set it up on my NB4. It was pulling pretty hard to the right and I realized quickly that the servo horn needed to be moved one notch then used a bit of subtrim to get her rolling str8. Being a beginner, I found the steering to be a bit squirly so 100% rates/50% expo on steering made me comfortable for now. I did try both 2s and 3s in the car and 3s is deff alot more punchy. Couple of quesstions for you: Im assuming the 3s pack will give more authority in the air? What would be good C ratings for both the 2s and 3s packs assuming running the car hard? I have a ton of batteries here as is but looking to pick up a few new Packs. And lastly, being new to this do you see any advantages to a begginer using 2s or 3s while learning? Thank you for your advice.
Awesome video dude,I also own both Trucks the Rival MT-10 V1 has a way better body that's about it. One thing I noticed about my granite rides heavier on an off-road BMX track rather than my rival mt-10. Even riding on the street rival seems lighter which is a plus
Incredible video, and the only video I’ve seen the best comparison between those two. Also, the mt10 metal differentials had a problem before the arrma composite diffs, that’s incredible….. wow 🤨
I have the mt10 v2 and I absolutely love it! I also would like to get a granite in the near future. From what I've seen out of these two trucks you really can't go wrong with either one. On my mt10 I actually put in a blx 100 and now I'm running 2.8 proline badlands and had it out yesterday and pulled off a few double backflips. And just from what I've seen with the motor mount bending from what I've seen from you and others I came up with a solution I hope I just folded some thinner cardboard and jammed it beneath the motor to hopefully help with those big impacts. Thanks for the comparison!
Awesome!! Ya cardboard or foam under the motor should help. Supposedly there are people working on an upgraded motor mount for it. I would Love to put a BLX system or similar in mine!
@@DerbyCityRC nice an upgraded motor mount would be great! I actually just put in the 3660 3200 kv spectrum motor in mine out of my sons vorteks and so far so good, it is bananas I just hope the driveshafts hold up!
Granite 3s was my first MT. I put it through absolute hell, but once you put those steel diffs into it, and replace the servo (25 kg DSServo on Amazon, $20) then that thing will take a beating. For more stability, i put on RPM typhon arms and stock Typhon turnbuckles. Excellent beginner truck. I bent my motor mount hitting a rock at 40mph. Arrma sell the 4s motor mount that's 1mm thicker. Same price. Better than the hot racing motor mount. I hear good things about the MT10, just haven't driven one yet. Great video.
@@nivin3no, the diff ring and pinion (AKA input gear) outer gears are plastic on the 3s Granite. You can buy upgraded steel ones from Arrma for $50 apiece. I had a steel spur, it didn't last long when my mesh got off after hitting a rock at 40 mph. I went back to plastic spur. They're cheap.
Awesome video. I've got an sc10pro4 I converted to an mt10 after watching your videos on it...only difference is the wheelbase is 1" longer. But after watching your videos on the granite, I'm thinking about adding one to my collection 😂.
I have been waffling between the 1/10th Vorteks 4 x 4 3s BLX truck and the 1/8th typhon 4 x 4 V3 3s BLX buggy. Any thoughts or videos on comparing the two?
Love your videos. New to the RC world and I bought the Senton and the Granite to start. The Senton is insane and I love it but the Granite I cant get to jump the way you do, do you keep the gas on when jumping to get it to flip like that? Is there something you do different? Cant get mine to flip around it just jumps. Thanks
Sorry for the late reply. Yes you hold the gas to get it to flip backwards and use the brakes to flip forward. You’re using the spinning mass of the tires to maneuver it. Any luck since you made this comment?
I cant belive how easy the motor mount bends on the 3s Arrma's. I think both cars are great for doing front flips. You may want to trim some branches on that tree. I have both buggies and honestly they are both super tough and fun to drive. Great job as always. 👍
LOL, i thought the tree added to the thrill! hitting that hanging branch deff made for some of the nastiest crashes that really helpled prove out durability!
I think your right. I'm always so protective of my cars but crashes and destruction is what most people like to see. Audio is important too, and it's always fun to listen to your goofy commentary. You have very a unique and fun personality. @@rbroberts61
Your video helped me make up my mind and i got the mt10 v2. I love love love this truck i did eject the stock esc for a hobbywing 120amp esc. Which just completes this truck and I paired it to my flysky gt3c controller, which just a fantastic controller for the price and features.
Amazing choice, man!! Did the Hobbywing increase performance on this own? I did always feel the esc may be slowing it down. And the remote is certainly a weak point.
@@DerbyCityRC yah the new esc(Quicrun 10BL120) really increased the performance and the motor actually feel like it runs a little cooler with the more efficient esc. Also there is a bonus to upgrading to this esc, it's skinnier than the stock which allows for a longer motor. I am thinking of throwing in a spare 540L motor 2400kv 4s compatible with a 5mm shaft and see how it rips. Also if any one get this esc you have to change the connection on the motor to 4mm pins stock are too small.
@@DerbyCityRC Happy to share the info. I ran my truck on loose beach sand on 3s and it did amazing. Believe it or not those stock tire hook up very well in loose beach sand and motor temps were perfect. I'm enjoying this truck a lot. Also on a side note if anyone is interested to know that if you trim a little bit of plastic from the back of the shock guard from the stock arms they will fit the rpm A arms but instead of reusing that inner mounting hole just use one of the unused shock holes for the second screw.
Ya I guess it depends on what your skatepark plans are. If you’re gonna be in the bowls, I’d say granite for sure for the air control like you said. I can’t really say much cuz I don’t have an easily accessible skatepark around me. 😥
Thanks! I have a video on my big ramp and a similar slightly smaller one here: ruclips.net/video/SnyqYnSc84o/видео.html That “bump” ramp I just kinda through together and didn’t make a video.
@@DerbyCityRC thanks for the quick response. There isn’t any sound coming from the servo. It does move freely when I move the tires to either side tho. At this point I’m thinking I ended up with a bad servo. Hopefully Horizon Hobby will warranty it since it’s only 2 months old.
Wow man I really enjoy this video. You're getting good at editing and putting in a little effects and fun surprises. Keep up the good work in that department!! I have had four granites. that's my vote!
I really enjoyed this video, It's an excellent comparison and gives the viewer a lot to consider and think about. One thing that might influence people is the current sale at Tower Hobbies. The Granite is $50 off.
Is the slipper clutch really bad ON granite as they say... I'm planning to do only flat road drives and no bashing at all... Will metal slipper clutch improve performance... Or do I really need to worry at all... Either Granite or BRCC I plan to biy
I’ve really never had an issue with mine but I do hear the complaint from others. I’ve only had to adjust mine once. Never broken on me or anything and I am hard on mine.
With the plastic welder, it's best to first put the wire mesh around the break, melt the plastic with the mesh on top, THEN add the extra plastic from the round plastic welding stick. Getting the mesh to meld with the original broken part first is key to durability. In my experience. Your mileage may vary.
If you're intending to get the new Team Associated Reflex 14MT, which is the baby brother to the MT10, be warned, the servo is not only trash and will break on your first big jump, but it is also smaller than your average mini servo. Would be fine, but it fits in a bracket. In a pretty tight space. Other than that, it is a beast of a truck.
@DerbyCityRC actually, Batan, the same company that makes the stock one sells an all metal version Batan D135F. Im ordering one from lcracing. It seems that's what they use in their smaller cars.
@KahnabusX420 looked it up. It’s the same width and length. Haven’t pulled it out to check height but I’d say it should fit! Warranty one is on its way but I don’t expect it to last long lol
To be honest I would get the granite, m2c and ccru makes aftermarket stronger parts for the granite. But I like both of these rigs. Great comparison Derb.
Great video, entertaining as always, now with added explosions, even! I'm not just about to buy any of these, but if I were, this would be a good video to watch! Was interesting with that plastic weld thing, I didn't expect it to hold... Suspension arms are usually easy to replace (unless it's Kyosho and nowhere on stock), bbut seems like a good part to attempt a repair on...
Thanks! Ya I was skeptical on the weld too, with more practice and the proper plastic compound, it may work. I just didn’t have a new arm with me and needed to finish the video. It never broke any further which was amazing! I do now have a set of RPM arms for it!!
Parts are very easy in the states. Many parts are available on Amazon and at most local hobby shops. They’re not too expensive either. You can go to horizonhobby.com and search for “parts” for each vehicle to get an idea of the cost.
Hi man! Super nice video(like always ) Could you put the tools amazon link please? What do you think has better durability? HBX 2995 or ARRMA GRANITE? I know has a completely different price. thanks
Thanks!! Sorry here is the link to the tools manufacturer. Naughtyboyrc.com. And a coupon code for the whole site! derbycity5 The granite and the 2995 are probably pretty similar in durability from my experience. But the granite is better at stunts. 2995 probably has better handling. Lol so many choices!
The simple fact, that you land your RC's on cement/pavement, and these two held up as long as they did, well, they BOTH get props. You're brutal with your testing, and since they both held up, they both get recommendations. That being said, I have put my Granite through, a lot of shit (but never landed on cement/road top), and have hardly broken anything, other than body mounts, or the body shell. The Granite is, for SURE, a giver and a taker. It will take, nearly, whatever you give it. I know, that the Rival takes an absolute beating, as well, but I've never driven one and I've seen that bastard tortured (Kevin Talbot) and tested. Both, excellent choices for bashing and, as always, this was a great video. Thanks for sharing.
I new to the RC and those 2 cars i been lookin at. I think im goin for the arrma .. new to your channel as well big big help ! Thank u sir i appreciate your hard work keep it up
I have a choice between granite or mt10. I have no clue which to go with. It's mostly for bashing and Horizon has much better warranty but other than that I'm stumped...
It really is a tough choice. Both are durable. It comes down to handling or stunts in my opinion. MT is better ground handling, but granite is faster and better at flips.
🤣🤣 I’m surprised I don’t get more questions about the random ductwork since I don’t use it as much. Probably gonna repurpose it. It made its debut in a video a couple months before this one 🤣
The plastic welding works best with shredded Brillo pad (not with the soap on , lol ) . The steel pieces work but the Brillo fibers work so much better . Both can be done at the same time too . How cool would it be to see arms and pieces with infused steel fibers. Steel rods would be too stiff and bendy . Maybe spring steel ? Whomever comes out with something like this will be ground breaking and everyone will want it imo .
That’s a great price for the granite and hard to pass up. I think the mt10 has a slightly better durability and handling rating. Granite has better speed and power performance. Depends on where you’d be running it and what you want out of it.
The granite will power through grass better, but the mt still does fine. Both would be good one gravel probably. Hard to steer people away from a center diff!
Still can't decide lol. The granite is def the wilder of the two beasts. The MT10 seems more durable, but the granite's part availability is definitely there. If you can't decide just do coin flip and buy both over time. Whichever you get first will be a blast regardless.
Not a bad way to do it for sure. I’ve never had an issue getting Rival parts though (of course I haven’t needed many lol). Either one of them is occasionally on backorder.
My servo went on mine smashed it into a bleacher lol gona bring it to the hobby shop to get a upgrade servo.just got a vortex it doest flip as much might be little faster
I must say that after all these jumps, all these breakages are totally acceptable. You can't say that are bad trucks. The MT10 is slower because of the electronics or maybe of the whole gearing. For me i like to have also a better driving experience, but again i like both of them. Personally i have the MT10 and i suggest it. Today i drove for the first time my brand new traxxas rustler 4x4 vxl 3s, and i have bend one suspension saft, also i lost the lower round plastic part that holds steady the spring of the suspension, and these damages are from the first day. The MT10 didn't have these damages from the first day after 2 months of the same driving. So this say that maybe the MT10 is better ? kind of ? For sure the MT10 is yes from me.
Just got it a couple of days ago and I love it. Done broke the rear bulkhead and stole one off a vortex and fixed it. I love this hobby bash, break, fix, and repeat lol
Good driving skills. Little trucks take a whooping for sure. Been in the hobby since the hornet 🐝 frog 🐸 days. I like the smaller 1/10 size trucks because of the plastic spur gears. They’re not as loud ripping them in front of the house.
Dude, that was one hell of a beat down like no other! Two great trucks indeed. Would of loved to see the other mt-10 in the mix, but I get it. That’s a lot of content. I still love my Team A MT-10 but am not opposed to trying the Arrma. I don’t own even one yet. Will have to change that soon! 😝 As always super awesome and interesting video dude. No one beats them and fixes them like you brother!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🍻😎
MT10 is now $404 which is way out of line compared to the competition. Everyone else (except Traxxas) is lowering the price or offering more. It's a real shame.
@Boogie_the_cat maaaan I didn’t know it went up that much. Last I checked maybe 4-5 months ago it was 339. That’s crazy and there are new 1/10 options that make it not worth that price at all.
Granite has better electronics, speed and durability. Mt10 has better looks and handeling. But right now The Granite is selling for $260 so its the winner hands down and i may have to bite. Awesome vid as always.
Awesome comparison! Those 2 can really take a beating! I don't see going wrong getting either of those! I agree the Redcat is there too. Next maybe get a Hoss and a Losi of that demeaner and do a 5 way compare of them all :-) "sorry don't want to spend your $$ for you) You did say a Hoss may be fun and they are 😉 Just plain one awesome video Evan!!!
If i ever get one, it would be the mt10, but on 3s. I hope the mt14 performs just as awesome. Ive seen a few reviews, but they dont have the guts to bash it like you do, one reviewer's servo broke on the mt14 :/
Center diff is actually worse for tranfering power to the tires. As the tires that slip will unload and spin faster. If you do a wheelie the tires with less traction will spin. The granite the front to rear power output is locked 50/50 no slipping possible. The granite does a wheelie and front tures are lock to the rear tire speed. Do a wheelie in a center diff car and the front tires will spin thus no power to the rear.
True. Worse at transferring power but better at balancing power between axles. If you tune it to your liking, it will be just how you want it and can prevent most of that power bleed off.
Put one million fluid in the center diff and you'll get closer to even power between front and rear. Center diff also handles better because when front tires lose traction from acceleration, they spin faster, thus ballooning, thus making contact with the ground allowing you to steer. There is a reason center diff costs more and people are willing to pay it. Tune your center diff right and you'll never want to drive with a slipper clutch again. It's night and day. Your "worse for transferring power to the tires" comment only makes sense if you consider 50\50 power in front and rear to be ideal. Yeah, that's better for wheelies, but not handling. After having extensively driven my Granite 3s through 80+ battery packs in the past 6 months, and driving my new MT with a center diff, my only gripe is less wheelies. Which I'm happy to exchange for: A) not having to replace slipper pads B) better handling C) not having to re-tune slipper every time I change spurs
Is that tree the mt10 hit still standing? 🤣 I own both of these- the Granite is a tank/beast ( Teast? ) I have yet to run my mt10, nothing broken on the Granite, and it's seen some abuse! Great video and comparison of the two‼️👍👍🦾🦾
Hi love your channel, I like the Team Associated Rival MT10 better but right now I'm waiting to repair my Hosim XO8 I have ordered parts it needs a new rear gear box & left side transmission dog bones but going to get a few extra parts just in case but I still want to get 1 more rc truck I like the trucks better then the cars.
Thanks!!😊 I think I may choose the rival also overall, but I would want a bit more power out of it along with an upgraded motor mount. Or maybe even better the granite with a center differential. It’s about $100 to add one though. Lol Smart to order extras for the Hosim. My experience now is the biggest weak spot with the Hosims is any of the gears. The metal is a little on the weak side.
@@DerbyCityRC Wow Thank you for the info, Hosim told me today " we will suspend the service of you" so I don't really know what that means ? but I'm going to try and fix the truck first then do some upgraded to the gears and what not and then get 1 more truck bigger then 1/12 scale, I'm looking for a company that has a very good CUSTOMER SERVICE not like hOSIM THERE IS NONE, but I like the 1/10 scale trucks you have on your channel and looking at one of them I have ? on it but one step at a time I am learning a whole hell of a lot from your video's I will back you up any time because your video's shows the buyer what to look for in weak points on a rc I love that. keep running them rc cars . have a good one my friend ...
@@DerbyCityRC not directly. I did put a few layers of padded servo tape down on the chassis hoping to take out the give available from the motor to droop. So far so good. Lol
I figured it was a weak spot and rather than trying to beef up the mount I tried to minimize how much anything else could move which might be why I broke a bulkhead/diff cover after but seems like a worthy trade off.
Ya keeping the motor from moving is the best solution even with a heavier mount lol. I’ve tried shoving foam under there before but doesn’t seem like it does much. Needs to be super dense!
The Associated Electronics transmitters are doodoo. No one handed driving and their range is poor. Also I seem to need to set endpoints on them regularly but that could be the ESC. I recently swapped in a FlySky Receiver and using a different transmitter now has made all the difference. Also did it on our MT8 and Trophy Rat.
Both are amazingly durable, but that extra 15% performance out of the Arrma means a lot of extra build strength in terms of durability. It's not the new hotness, but it is likely the better built and bang for the buck truck. It doesn't have the center differential - which is a preference thing - and the MT10 may be easier to handle on asphalt, but it is largely inferior on grass, dirt, and typical loose traction offroad conditions. If handling is your thing, a lower vehicle with a longer wheel base would be more appropriate. A Kraton will eat both for lunch.
Ya Kraton eats them both, except for air control. Atleast my 6s Kraton is too heavy and harder to flip around. 4s is probably a bit better for that. An outcast may be the best of both worlds and maybe I’ll have one one day!
@@DerbyCityRC Seems like the Notorious is almost the same chassis as the Outcast, not sure of the exact differences, probably some less durable components/bracing, different body, and a bit less cost. We have a 6s Notorious and it's a fairly flippy sucker in the air, handles ok-ish on asphalt if you dial down the steering angle, and wheelies everywhere - and I mean everywhere - it feels way overpowered for the chassis, which is pretty fun and requires some driver skill/concentration. Our 3s Bigrock can out drag race it easily on both dirt and asphalt just due to the Notorious's inability to get power into a forward motion. But it ranks high on smiles per mile and is the one everyone wants to drive. That's saying something considering the variety of cars we use, although it is the biggest. It just crushes rough terrain, jumps well, and is fast as anyone can reasonably handle in our fam. Durability has been mostly ok as well. But the smaller and/or less expensive cars are maybe just as entertaining, the breakage/cost anxiety is all but eliminated and it's fun to see how much punishment they can take. It really depends on the terrain available to you, big cars can usually be used in more places, but not always. It essentially comes down to these 3 factors: The right car for The right environment at Your right budget is the key to maximizing fun.
@LGHTSPD675 I agree with all that! Ya the cost of Arrma 6s maintenance is the only reason I don’t have a notorious or outcast. Still considering a 4s version though
@@DerbyCityRC I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Arrma 6s Notorious to anyone. Arrma has some crazy good deals on various websites for certain 6s models. Heck, the Outcast 6s is Fourhundred $ on towerhobbies right now. There is a value ratio in the hobby that is critically under-discussed. I think you have done and continue to do a great job of finding that optimum for new persons to the hobby and experienced enthusiast. I think that is why your channel is growing. There are a lot of new products and the whole segment is growing. That is great! However, with all the new products, it is hard to know what performs well and what doesn't. That's where you come in. You are relatable, entertaining, genuine, have a positive mindset, but also tell us the truth and give us the facts. I think you are well positioned. You are doing great! If the formula ever gets stagnant (which it is not in any way!) you could increase to the fun and entertainment in a fun friendly rivalry (maybe from your brother - maybe that is the plan already?) that offers counter points, family friendly/brotherly jabs, humour, and competition. Like a Top Gear for RC.
I love your channel. I always find myself either rewatching videos, or just diving into your backlog of older videos. Keep killing it!
Thanks dude that’s awesome!! 😎
Super glad you enjoy the channel!
I absolutely love my granite 3s. I have the green one. And from all the reviews I’ve seen of the MT10, it’s damn near indestructible. My local hobbytown just never seems to have them in stock. But I will definitely get one eventually 😎
Highly recommend myself! 😃
Awesome info, thanks!!
What a great suggestion! Im actually waiting on delivery of my MT10v2 and although the problem doesnt seem as prevolent in the rival im going to install a support under the motor from day one.
idk how this amazing channel only has 10k subs
Thanks! 😃 growing daily!
I like that your kids are included in your videos, they are cute funny little weirdos!
Thanks!! Yes they are all of those things 🤣🤣
Awesome!! Thanks man! I just recently reviewed the vorteks and it almost handles like it has a center diff!
Thanks Patrick! Awesome info in there to further help people make a decision. Really appreciate it!! 👍👍
BUT!!!
I’m actually working on a video for the Vorteks, and you might be surprised with that one lol
Should have that out in 2-3 more days.
@pizzomedia7261 yup tough decision. I have the 4s outcast and 4s Mojave and they are definitely superior. Love those the most!
Lol
Same with the mt10 obviously, it just doesn’t have the punch that the Arrmas have.
Thanks man!! Literally have 6 videos in production currently lol
Im about to order a Rival. Iv owned alot of AE cars and never been disappointed. Its meant for my 7yr old to learn on.
Awesome choice! My son Max is 6 and it’s one of his favorites!
Killer trucks! I'm going to have to get one of the MT10s
Yes you are! 🤣
Another great video! I just picked up the arrma granite 4x4 off craiglist for $100.00 practically brand new very happy I made the purchase
Thanks!!
Wow great deal!
Hey there, I cant get my hands on a Granite here in Germany. Its sold out everywhere 😢
Do you have any experience with the Arrma Big Rock 3S or how does it compare to the MT10? Would love to hear your opinion.
Btw...keep up the good work! Always fun to watch your stuff!
The Big Rock is supposedly the same thing as the granite except it has a longer wheelbase which could make it more stable. Most likely it’s pretty similar to the granite, but may not flip in the air quite like the granite does also due to that long wheelbase. For crazier driving I’d say the big rock and for better handling and being a little more tame, I’d say the mt10. I will have a Vorteks video coming out soon and if you can get that, that’s another good option. The better handling of the 3s Arrmas.
@@DerbyCityRC thank you
Thx 4 sharing ~your channel rocks …just ordered the Mt10( brushed) thru Amain $255 w discount coupon this month {march 2024}…NO ~you cannot borrow my lawnmower
Thanks man!! 😃🤣
Thanks!
Ya I’ll eventually upgrade the granite. It’s worth it for or sure. Probably put wider arms on it.
What broke?
Shocks
Driveshafts (so many)
Motors died - thank goodness for Banggood and cheap motors
ESCs
Spur gears (so many)
Ring and pinion gears (so many)
Did replace some of the plastic gears with CNC diff gears which helped but make the car very expensive.
Now compare that to my Arrma Typhon 6s that is a tank and as tough as my MT10. They are both built to last. The Arrma 3s are not with lots of use.
Honestly I believe that lol. MT10 is just awesome! I wish the MT8 was just as good cuz I would have gotten one for sure.
Thanks!!
With upgrades on both trucks, they are tanks, great video I definitely enjoyed it 👍🏻
Thanks for that info man! Very good to know! Glad you liked the video!
I recently got Rival MT10 and I was wondering which battery straps, motorfan did you get? Are you still using the same receiver?
WOW, that was really fun to watch. Been into RC flying for quite a while and have a couple of crawlers as well that I enjoy. I just ordered the MT10 V2 after watching your vid. Itll be my first basher and Im deff looking for TOUGH! My driving at this point I know sucks and I have a feeling my flips are gonna be ugly to start out with. Really enjoyed and picked up on your driving skills. Again a really fun and informative watch. Thank for putting it out there.
Thanks! I definitely think you’ll enjoy it!!
Also, the mt10 metal differentials had a problem before the arrma composite diffs, that’s incredible….. wow 🤨
Thanks!! Ya the granite diffs are strong for sure!
Welcome!
I would
Love to put a BLX system or similar in mine!
@@DerbyCityRC nice an upgraded motor mount would be great! I actually just put in the 3660 3200 kv spectrum motor in mine out of my sons vorteks and so far so good, it is bananas I just hope the driveshafts hold up!
@jacobsparks4419 awesome! I hope so too! Lol
Thanks! I actually have a video where I added the typhon turnbuckles and arms along with a 4s center differential. Definitely major improvements
Steel diff you mean metal slipper clutch? Or center diff
@@DerbyCityRCI'm jealous of that video. Center diffs are excellent. 👍🏽
Awesome video. I've got an sc10pro4 I converted to an mt10 after watching your videos on it...only difference is the wheelbase is 1" longer. But after watching your videos on the granite, I'm thinking about adding one to my collection 😂.
Awesome!!!
Ya you can’t go wrong with having both!
I have been waffling between the 1/10th Vorteks 4 x 4 3s BLX truck and the 1/8th typhon 4 x 4 V3 3s BLX buggy. Any thoughts or videos on comparing the two?
Unfortunately not at this time as I don’t have a vorteks or a typhon. Hopefully soon though!
@@DerbyCityRC I am on your 10 best under $150 video. I enjoy your reviews, keep up the good work.
Thanks!! Glad you’re enjoying them!!
Thanks!!!
Awesome, all good to know!! 👍👍 thanks!
Awesome, thanks!
I want the granite but here the mt10 is better for skate parks which is what I want it for. Your video has me reconsidering the granite over the mt10
Ya I guess it depends on what your skatepark plans are. If you’re gonna be in the bowls, I’d say granite for sure for the air control like you said. I can’t really say much cuz I don’t have an easily accessible skatepark around me. 😥
They’re both so good lol
Awesome video. What speedometer you using? Thanks
I have a Vorteks that I converted into a granite with Big Rock arms (for the wider stance) and I love it.
Ya I can’t wait to widen my granite!
Sweet. I like the small ramp. Do you have any vids on how you built them?
Thanks!
I have a video on my big ramp and a similar slightly smaller one here: ruclips.net/video/SnyqYnSc84o/видео.html
That “bump” ramp I just kinda through together and didn’t make a video.
15:18 :D haha too good
😂😂
Hey brother! Granite quit steering today. Any advice.
TIA
Well crap!
Any noise like the servo is trying to turn?
Servo fully plugged into receiver?
Do the wheels turn manually with the esc on and off?
@@DerbyCityRC thanks for the quick response. There isn’t any sound coming from the servo. It does move freely when I move the tires to either side tho. At this point I’m thinking I ended up with a bad servo. Hopefully Horizon Hobby will warranty it since it’s only 2 months old.
I’ve never bought directly from horizon but they should cover it. Servo would be most likely cause for sure.
I feel like I work on my Granite way more than my Rival…but you hit the nail on the head concerning handling the Rival handles better.
Custom RC Upgrades' do a 7075 Motor mount plate for the MT10 it's an awesome upgrade.
Awesome rc car run.
Keep up the good work fella.
Respect! 👍

Wow man I really enjoy this video. You're getting good at editing and putting in a little effects and fun surprises. Keep up the good work in that department!! I have had four granites. that's my vote!
Glad you like it man!! Always trying to make stuff I would watch! Granite is pretty hard to beat for sure!
Awesome. Nice jumps! Total bashing.
Thanks!
I really enjoyed this video, It's an excellent comparison and gives the viewer a lot to consider and think about. One thing that might influence people is the current sale at Tower Hobbies. The Granite is $50 off.
Thanks!! Yes sales are always helpful lol
Good review. I definitely agree with you. I'm a huge fan of both and have bashed the tar out of both and they take it!
Thanks! Yes both still awesome!

Will you review the MJX 14 scale?
Yup! It’s already on order. Not for sure when the video will be done though.
@@DerbyCityRC Nice. I'll be waiting for your review
Still hasn’t shipped. Backorder, so will still be a while.
@@DerbyCityRC ok
It’s actually hilarious that you say that 🤣
Video coming…eventually lol
If you know of a servo that fits, I’m open to suggestions.
Hopefully upgrades for the MT will start sprouting soon! Can’t go wrong either way!
I do now have a set of RPM arms for it!!
another thing, how easy is it to find parts for both of these trucks and how expensive are parts for each.
Parts are very easy in the states. Many parts are available on Amazon and at most local hobby shops. They’re not too expensive either. You can go to horizonhobby.com and search for “parts” for each vehicle to get an idea of the cost.
Hi man! Super nice video(like always )
Could you put the tools amazon link please?
What do you think has better durability? HBX 2995 or ARRMA GRANITE? I know has a completely different price. thanks
Thanks!!
Sorry here is the link to the tools manufacturer.
Naughtyboyrc.com.
And a coupon code for the whole site!

The granite and the 2995 are probably pretty similar in durability from my experience. But the granite is better at stunts. 2995 probably has better handling.
Lol so many choices!
@@DerbyCityRC Thanks a lot
@piergiorgioferrari you’re welcome!
Yea I agree the cement is tough in these!
They’re both awesome for sure!
Thanks!!!
I new to the RC and those 2 cars i been lookin at. I think im goin for the arrma .. new to your channel as well big big help ! Thank u sir i appreciate your hard work keep it up
Awesome!! Can’t go wrong there! Glad to hear this was helpful, thanks for being here! 😃
@@DerbyCityRC I ended up getting the granite to start with.
@OutlawRC cool man. I do feel
Like I prefer that one. Now a granite with a center diff would be ideal!
@@DerbyCityRCIbwonder if we could squeeze one in like on the kraton
@OutlawRC I plan on trying not too long from now so we will see!
Hey but wht about that Redcat you had? (rebranded Team Magic irrc)
😯 wow!
That’s some monster durability testing for sure- impressive all the way around.
Thanks for the great videos!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks!
Mt10 under the hood with the green granite body!
Nice!
Great vid thought about getting rival which i know is good but seems a little slow.Might have to be a granite 👍
Both are awesome!!
Well made and entertaining comparison. Subscribed 🙂
Thanks!! 😃
I Have the granite i wish there was a center differential option
Me too. That’s one of the cool things about the redcat is you can actually get an option center diff.
12:22 I bet that wheelie bin broke a diff and an arm 🤣
Nope!! Unscathed!! 😃😃
I have the mt10 and find it good.
It definitely is.
7:31 & 12:57 a song by pink floyd comes to memory, titled "Another Brick in the Wall", where the lyrics went
hey, teacher, leave those trees alone!
🤣
“….. Tree don’t need no education”
@@DerbyCityRC I wasnt expecting awesome reply like that, despite you've done some awesome responses before. Awesome! 😂😂
Haha! More to come 😃
Now that’s funny 😆 I’ve been wondering what that conglomeration of ductwork is 🤣🤣
🤣🤣 I’m surprised I don’t get more questions about the random ductwork since I don’t use it as much. Probably gonna repurpose it.
It made its debut in a video a couple months before this one 🤣
21:07 That front arms, rear hinge pin plate is also bent as duck 🦆
The plastic welding works best with shredded Brillo pad (not with the soap on , lol ) . The steel pieces work but the Brillo fibers work so much better . Both can be done at the same time too . How cool would it be to see arms and pieces with infused steel fibers. Steel rods would be too stiff and bendy . Maybe spring steel ? Whomever comes out with something like this will be ground breaking and everyone will want it imo .
Nice idea!! I haven’t successfully used the is thing yet, but only tried it like twice lol. I agree that would be a nice touch lol
Rival MT10 for $339 or Granite BLX for $269. What one should I go with? I'm not going to do a ton of bashing. Thanks
That’s a great price for the granite and hard to pass up. I think the mt10 has a slightly better durability and handling rating. Granite has better speed and power performance.
Depends on where you’d be running it and what you want out of it.
@@DerbyCityRC I would be running it in the grass most of the time and maybe on a gravel driveway. So is the Granite still the better deal? Thanks
@@DerbyCityRC do you think the losi lasernut is any good compared to the other 2? I can get it for 250
The granite will power through grass better, but the mt still does fine. Both would be good one gravel probably. Hard to steer people away from a center diff!
I have no experience with an Losi yet so I couldn’t tell ya 😢
Haha, ouch!
The vorteks looks sweet too!
I’m looking for an electric RC car (preferably 1/8 scale ) that has a mechanical brake system, someone knows where I can find it? Thanks a lot ❤
Sounds cool!
Let me know if you find one! Only ones I know of would be fuel fired RCs
I agree 100%! Both cars did very well.
I’d say the mt10 probably did better in durability overall, especially considering I’ve had it longer.
I’m about to get the granite it’s the only 3s in that series that I’ve never owned and it a tank I can’t wait
Awesome!!!
Just got it a couple of days ago and I love it. Done broke the rear bulkhead and stole one off a vortex and fixed it. I love this hobby bash, break, fix, and repeat lol
@jessemcclain3492 I agree!
I used to work on real cars for a living so this keeps me from missing that lol
On your plastic weld method next time try using the paper clip method where you melt it into the piece giving that little extra strength,.
Thanks I’ll give that a try!
They’re both pretty tough, jumping & landing on concrete time after time. Is the big test 👍🏻
That’s exactly what I was going for. That will destroy anything so I was trying to find the weak spots 🤜💥🤛
Thanks Robby!!
This was a fun one for sure! I figured a 23 minute video was enough so I’ll probably do a MT10E vs Rival MT10 soon!! Thanks again!! 😀
MT just looks better. V1s are getting harder to find reasonably priced.
I think so too, granite is too tall. I do prefer the v2 rival though
@@DerbyCityRCRival MT10 for $339 or Granite BLX for $269. What one should I go with? I'm not going to do a ton of bashing. Thanks
@@bigpoo02What did you go with in the end?
MT10 is now $404 which is way out of line compared to the competition. Everyone else (except Traxxas) is lowering the price or offering more. It's a real shame.
@Boogie_the_cat maaaan I didn’t know it went up that much. Last I checked maybe 4-5 months ago it was 339. That’s crazy and there are new 1/10 options that make it not worth that price at all.
Granite has better electronics, speed and durability. Mt10 has better looks and handeling. But right now The Granite is selling for $260 so its the winner hands down and i may have to bite. Awesome vid as always.
I agree though I still feel durability is similar. But yes for $260 the Granite is unbeatable!
Thanks for comparing them! I think I'd go with the mt10 because the handling sounds great and I wouldn't be bashing too hard.
Probably your best choice!!
Thanks Brad!! Ya I need a couple more 1/10s I agree!! I’ll definitely be doing similar comparisons in that class! 😀
If i ever get one, it would be the mt10, but on 3s. I hope the mt14 performs just as awesome. Ive seen a few reviews, but they dont have the guts to bash it like you do, one reviewer's servo broke on the mt14 :/
You’re about to find out!! 😉
9:09 as the saying goes:"you can't break, what's broken", so what you're saying there is perfectly logical, no asterix needed 😅😂
🤣 very true!!!
Which I'm happy to exchange for:
A) not having to replace slipper pads
B) better handling
C) not having to re-tune slipper every time I change spurs
got a granite 3s love it but I think i'm going to get the mt8 ! great video !
Awesome! Thanks!
So that’s how you trim your trees 😂. My vote goes towards the mt10 for no particular reason other than a gut feeling.
Haha, no better way!!
Ya the MT seems to win the vote!
Is that tree the mt10 hit still standing? 🤣 I own both of these- the Granite is a tank/beast ( Teast? ) I have yet to run my mt10, nothing broken on the Granite, and it's seen some abuse! Great video and comparison of the two‼️👍👍🦾🦾
Crazy enough the tree IS still standing!!
Gotta get that MT out today!!!! 😂
Rival MT10! 👍
Oh ya!!!
Lol
Smart to order extras for the Hosim.
Mt10 all day. Many reasons but mostly drive train is far superior imo
Ya it probably is. All metal (except for drive shafts). Haven’t broken one yet though!
Excellent video bud
Thanks!
Gotta go with the Team Associated although the Granite is pretty dang cool...
Team Associated fixed it's self, That was hilarious 😂
I think I agree!
Haha ya that was funny 🤣
I just slapped the Spektrum BLX system into my Rival MT10 and got the best of both worlds.
That’s awesome and a great idea, I just feel the motor mount is a bit too weak for a heavier motor on the rival. Did you upgrade or modify it?
@@DerbyCityRC not directly. I did put a few layers of padded servo tape down on the chassis hoping to take out the give available from the motor to droop. So far so good. Lol
I figured it was a weak spot and rather than trying to beef up the mount I tried to minimize how much anything else could move which might be why I broke a bulkhead/diff cover after but seems like a worthy trade off.
Nice! Supposedly some people are working on an upgraded motor mount.
Ya I don’t love that controller either. Never used a fly sky yet!
Team associated ftw.
Cuzbibdont have he granite yet. Lol
You need to make them 4s lol
lol that sounds nuts 🤣
@@DerbyCityRC I made a mistake, it's the 1/5 scale 8s that is on sale for 400 $ on towerhobbies.
If you are not from US I would just get granite because of better availability.
Or BRCC?
Great video and information as always. Is the MT10 still king of the durable 1/10th bashers or was it dethroned by the Granite? 😮
Thanks! I think Mt10 still wins durability!
Bent motor mount will start chomping your spur gear
Nom nom nom!!
Nice Video! You definitely don't take it easy on your cars. I have the Granite and like it, the Rival looks bad @$$ too!
Thanks!!!
