Happy birthday Leena! Good to hear how enjoyable it was for you. After hearing so much about Jesica I feel it would be be great to meet her as a guest on your podcast sometime. She sounds like a wonderful person. I really understand what you feel when you read about slavery. It resonates with me too as I feel like my heart is being squeezed reading about the hardships. Also feel thankful for the independence that I get to experience. Mystery KALs are not my thing as fingering yarns in those lovely colours people use are not accessible to me. But I enjoy seeing projects that participants make. Thanks for a lovely episode again.
Happy Belated Birthday! Thanks for sharing your knitting with us. For summer knits, check out the 'Urchin' top by Libby Jonson of Truly Myrtle. It was originally a members only pattern for her Wardrobe Toolbox program (which I am). I've made two so far. It has some easy lace down the front from the shoulders w/short sleeves. A linen/cotton blend yarn works great. Highly recommend. She writes great patterns.
Happy birthday Leena ❤! Its wonderful you've been able to celebrate it it so well. Its interesting what you've said about the projects that need a bit more focus and so these you can't knit & chat, or even listen to your books so easily. with. I've been having a great deal of trouble getting into any audio-books, despite my interest & excitement of trying out Libby. I've come to realise that so much of my knitting requires this focus and that's my chill time - focusing on things that need to be focused on! so that audio-books, which I also need to focus on, gets put aside, and days pass before I've realised I've not listened for so long that I've 'lost the plot ' of that particular book haha. It's been an interesting journey for me as its made me realise my concentration isn't that good, so I need to really only focus on one (complex) thing at time. I do have plain knitting projects for when travelling by train or as a car passenger, but it's hard to listen to audiobooks in those circumstances. So I'm still trying to work it all out 😁 I love how your 12 Birds is looking. The 24 Birds version sounds amazing! Maybe I'll look into it once it not an MKAL sometime down the track. Love, Jen xx
The Uptown Tee by Tori Yu has super cute cap/short sleeves. I bought this pattern last year. The body is plain but you could stipe it or use a special linen yarn or whatever, to make it more interesting.
Happy birthday Lena! I am continuing with the full circular 24-birds shawl. I’m not sure if it will be more of a blanket throw, but it’s so fun to knit I don’t care! I also like the bite-sized pieces we are given each week…so far easy to keep up with.
Happy birthday Lena. As a March birthday person too it’s my favorite month. Love the knitting and the book recommendations. Really enjoyed The Women by Kristen Hannah.
Happy belated birthday to you as well, Janet! 🥳 March is a great month all around. Beautiful weather, spring break, and birthdays! I’ve heard great things about the Women. I’ll have to add it to the list!
Aakk!! I’m so excited for you to get a spinning wheel. I am currently on that same journey of figuring out what spinning wheel to buy. In the mean time I have been doing drop spindle and am loving that, I am knitting from my own hand spin yarn- it is next level of joy for the art of knitting.
Hi, Im knitting the round 24 birds throw. I have also knitted Helen Stewart's Anthology throw, which I totally loved. I do enjoy the round Pi knitting and this one is going very well. Im using very toned down colors, which is not my usual pallet, but I am loving the lace in this soft color. Your shawl is looking wonderful. I intend to make the 12 birds as well.
Yay! I’m so glad you’re loving the round shawl. I think if I had picked a sturdier yarn, I would have considered sticking with it. Single ply is a little too delicate though.
Happy Birthday Leena! Colorado is the perfect place to be on your birthday, have a great time! We can hear the snoring but it's not an issue, don't worry about it. I've been listening to books on Libby like crazy, thank you so much for telling us about it. I really like whodunit's and I recently discovered Mary Kay Andrews, so I'm breezing through her books, it's so nice to have a whole list of possibilities to read, and on Libby they're FREE! I'm in my final month of school for my masters in Data Science so I'm not up for anything challenging. I've been knitting on my Half & Half, and on dish towels/cloths. I'm looking forward to being free from school and into a job that pays the bills. I have a cardigan that I really want to start, it's the Auguste Cardigan by Johanna Gehrisch, I bought the yarn from Rowan on 50% sale Moordale in the color Peony. I hope I love it when it's done, that's always the concern. Will it fit, will I like it....
I agree with you-Libby is the best! I’m so glad you’ve been able to find books that are a break from all that studying! Congrats on almost being done! If you swatch and make sure you’re on gauge, you’ll love the cardigan you make!
Happy Birthday Lena 🎉❤🎉. I’m also knitting the twelve birds shawl, I have knitted the Anthology Shawl by Helen Stewart but I’ve never worn it, tend to just use as a lap blanket so I was very great full that she pivoted. My colours are not to different to yours and I love it.
Hi Leena! I cannot wait to see your finished cardigan by Isabell Kraemer! It's working up nicely. ❤ I'm working on Misheel by Isabell Kraemer now, and am enjoying the textured pattern. 😊
Purchased the Schacht ladybug to start, and it was “fine” but I wasn’t thrilled with the quality. I bought it used for $600, and resold jt 6 months later for $850. Then, purchased my Majacraft Rose, which has been a dream. I adore the hand craftsmanship of the wheel itself, and spinning on it is a breeze. A thing to note- you will need lots of bobbins (at least 6), a lazy Kate, a niddy noddy (or a yarn winder and swift) etc. I bought a larger flyer for plying, and am happy I have it. Schacht bobbins are pricey…
Good to know all of this! Unfortunate that the Schacht didn’t live up to your hopes…that’s the one I had my eye on. The Majacraft Rose is super pricey! But so beautiful. Glad you could get it and love it!
Happy Birthday to you 🎉. I am also a crocheter first and a new knitter. I've never crocheted with rafia but, if your hands can stand it, I think that tote bag would look great in a color block with your colors!
Thank you! And yes you’re not kidding-its so hard on the hands! It is really fun but I feel like I’m fighting every stitch…might be a very long term project!
I planned on knitting a lot of tanks this spring/summer and most of them are bottom up. A tip I have heard is to do a provisional cast on and only knit a few inches before doing the bust shaping then coming back to knit the body as long as you want. I am going to try that and will report back.
I started with the Ashford Kiwi 2 which has become my plying work horse .... got the Ashford Traditional that I spin all my singles on... the Kiwi has the larger spool system to ply varied yarns like art yarns ...I love them both
Hi Lena, I made a Luca hat and the Siena bat last summer. Love them both! For the bag I made one modification: I added leather straps and am very happy with it 😀
@@AnotherKnittingPod yes, it‘s not a soft thing. Raffia by Wool and The Gang is softer than the one by Kremke Soul Wool. But still… I had a break between the two projects knitting with soft yarns 😀
Happy Birthday Leena! Your 12 Birds is beautiful. After seeing so many pretty versions I’m tempted to start the round version. I’m not a fan of half circle shawls but love a full round, they are so elegant. What’s the reason you don’t like them? I like them for their versatility - more ways to fold and wear.
Love the pod! i gave up on the MKAL, i did not love the shawl but i found another pattern i will use the yarn for. i am currently knitting the Joji summer knit Adriata, it does have some lace but its too pretty! have a good week.
I really need to do some Aimee sher knits, I keep seeing them and looks like her patterns are somewhat mix and match for sleeves, neckline etc. I’m wondering if her prices are higher because she seems to donate to charities a portion of her sales? Not sure. Happy happy birthday!!!!! I hope it was a good day! The pouch is amazing!!! My daughter would freak out for that because she collects so many art pencils and paint pens and loves taking them on the go, I could see her loving that. I need to learn to sew properly! Way to go Jessica! I’ll be so excited to see your hat! It looks like an amazing pattern, makes me wish I could crochet. Annalie and I are (as she says ) shade loving plants. 😂 she told me years ago “mommy I am like a fern, I am just a shade loving plant.” I have yarn for a Shelley tank by Nancy Ricci, which really I need to make soon so I can wear it once it gets warm, but also it is lace and once school is out lace will just not be on my menu 😂
Happy Birthday, I am knitting 24 birds and totally loving it. If you remember I’m knitting mine with a gradient advent by Telling Yarns, it’s 100% wool and feels so wonderful in my hands. I'm so excited for you to get a spinning wheel! I have a Lendrum Original Double Treadle and I love it, however, apparently the owner just retired or is retiring so I'm not sure if these wheels are very available anymore. But I also have my eye on maybe starting a little spinning wheel posse by maybe adding schact ladybug, sidekick or matchless some day in the future because they have some different benefits/abilities. The only thing I would say is to probably just look for a wheel that could be good for a range of things versus going to a wheel that could be very good so say spinning giant art yarns, because it would likely not be ideal for spinning other varieties of yarn. Good luck in the search!
Hi Nicole! I’ve heard great things about Lendrum wheels. I was thinking about getting a ladybug, but I really need to try one out. I’ve accepted that it might take me a while to find the right wheel!
Happy birthday! I am knitting the circle version and have had to carefully tink back a few times. My punishment for knitting lace while talking on the phone ha! Hi Leena, I am really looking forward to making the Temperature Tee from Heather Walpole. It is a free pattern and looks very straight forward. I also bought the Lucca hat pattern last year. My gauge was off so I have put it on hiatus, but I do want to make it. I am using a nylon type yarn for it. I am very interested in your progress with it. Thanks!
Hi Lena! Happy birthday! I am sticking with the 24 birds because I committed and once I do that I can't change course😂. I have had to tink back in clue 3 but I'm back on track with all 576 stitches! I think circle shawls are gorgeous and it will be my first. Glad you found a way to go forward with the mystery! Yours is beautiful!
Love your video, new here. Also went from 24 Birds to 12, did not want a circular shawl over my chair or sofa. Starting today Thanks for all the info on that See you soon
I’m glad you’re here! Thank you for watching 💚 I really think the 12 Birds is just flying by. I can’t believe how reasonable the clues are. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am!
@AnotherKnittingPod oh I am not, can't see to keep my stitch count right. I'm doing a practice run, dont know if I'll continue. So concerned about the stitch count, cant enjoy the knitting, don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Spinning Wheels! Let’s have that group lesson soon. I wanted to buy an original Lendrum DT but they aren’t making them anymore. I love it so much and tried to get find someone who was willing to ship me a used one. They are out there but nothing lined up. (I saw one yesterday!). The Ashford Kiwi 3 feels similar and if I want I can add pieces to expand its range. A lazy Kate and niddy noddy are important too. I don’t have them yet. When I tried the Schacht wheels I loved the Matchless. It felt like the Lendrum to me. But that is $$$$. The Flatiron is a bit less but is sideways which wasn’t my preference. The cool thing about the small wheels like the Ladybug and what I have (Ashford Kiwi) is that they easily fold up and you can take them places.
I just finished a REALLY good book called Trespasses by Louise Kennedy. OMG I can't stop thinking about it. It's some intense material but so worth it.
I was excited to hear you are getting a spinning wheel Leena. I’m 72 and took up spinning in February. I joined our local guild and I’m soaking up so much knowledge from ladies who have been spinning for decades. I got an Ashford Kiwi 3 after a recommendation from another long term spinner. I’m super happy with it. Like most everybody I did find spinning frustrating at the start. It wasn’t too long before it clicked and I was away. Each spin is getting better. A friend gave me a couple of fleeces and I’m so enjoying learning how to wash, and prepare the locks. Now I’ve got enough fibre to make a shawl. Good luck on your spinning journey 😊
That is amazing! I love hearing this so much. It’s so fun to be on a new adventure that takes you deeper into knitting! Yay for you Sarah! I’m glad to hear you like the Kiwi since its such a reasonable price point.
Happy birthday Leena! Good to hear how enjoyable it was for you.

We need to do it soon! You tell me when you can! I’m dying to learn but I’m a little nervous. Scared to purchase one before I know I can do it!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎉 🎈 Love your podcasts!!! BTW…Can’t hear any dog snoring 💤 and wouldn’t mind if I did🐶
Thank you so much!! This time I do think my audio did not catch her, but I’m always scared it will be distracting to you all!
I just finished a REALLY good book called Trespasses by Louise Kennedy. OMG I can't stop thinking about it. It's some intense material but so worth it.
It’s on my list now, Casey! Thank you for the rec, it looks great.
Happiest 44 Leena 🎂🥳💝🧶 I hope this year brings more love, joy and happiness to you.
Thank you so much Toni. That is so kind of you 💜
