    I love Eri Shimizu! Her garments are so effortlessly beautiful. I have made Flores, now I have popped Shizen into my queue. I look forward to seeing it progress! And kids activities are relentless…you love it, of course, but it is intense. I have so much more me time now.

    I made the Kallias too, and added a button, I made a crochet chain loop as a button hole. I put a safety pin across the two fronts to find the perfect place to put my button & loop and now I love it. The two fronts are not over lapping.

    I wonder if you could weave an elastic through the collar area of your Kallias to cinch it a bit and help it stay put while wearing it. It really does look great on you! And, I really love all the colors of your shawl and think they’re working together so beautifully - can’t wait to see it finished!

      Thank you! I’m not sure if elastic will work. I think the yarn is too stiff…I do wear it still, because its a versatile neutral that looks good with lots of things!

    Thanks again for a great chat, hope you had fun on your spin date ❤
    So excited to see your spinning journey. I got my first wheel a year ago after using a drop spindle for a year. I knew I wanted one pedal and not two so that cut my selection down a lot. Ended up getting an Ashford traditional, the tensioned lazy kate, 5 extra bobbins and maintence kit were totally worth buying at same time. I love that it has single drive and double drive and it is easy to use for longdraw or short forward. I wanted to only buy one and have been really happy with it. It was less than 1k even with all the extras Just my 2 cents 😊 Get ready to fall in love with buying fiber, it's more fun than yarn.

    You're being very smart about trying out spinning wheels. I jumped in to spinning when I had the opportunity to buy a vintage Matchless with a lot of extra whorls and bobbins for a reasonable price. I thought it would be all the wheel I'd ever need since it can be operated with Scottish, Irish, or Double Drive. It's a lovely wheel, but it's way more wheel than I need, and it's heavy, so I can't easily drag it out to the patio on a nice day. Fortunately, I can get most if not all of my investment out of it when I sell, which I plan to do. I got one of the last Lendrum DTs before he retired, and I love it. It's light, and so much easier to spin on. I've heard this one and the Ashford Kiwi often mentioned as great beginner wheels that will continue to serve as you progress. One of the things I love is that it leans forward, so I can actually see the bobbin as it fills, which is important if you have to manually move the guides. I'm a short girl (5'3") and couldn't really see anything on the Matchless if my chair height was comfortable with my treadle position. I also got an EEW 6 e-spinner, which is very affordable, and comes with 8 oz bobbins. I use this for all of my plying, as I've found that I don't enjoy plying that much on a treadle wheel, and it usually requires an additional purchase of a jumbo flyer and bobbin assembly. I also use the EEW for long draw, because you can position it so you can draw across your body rather than having to pull back, which bothers my not-so-great shoulder.
    I have to say, I almost love spinning more than knitting. Once I got over the initial learning curve (my early yarn is for display purposes only LOL), and got into the groove, I have marveled at the beautiful squishy skeins I have made. I especially enjoy spinning fractal, as it produces yarn like Spincycle, but I have control over the colors, fibers, and cost.
    The other thing I would suggest is experimenting with different fibers before jumping into a stash. I have found that I don't enjoy spinning superwash, or the ones that produce a scratchier tougher yarn, like Cheviot, Falkland, or Wenslydale. I love the soft plumpy ones and have gravitated to BFL, Polwarth, Targhee, and Cormo. Corriedale is easy to spin, but it's a bit on the scratchy side for me unless it's blended with something else. Merino is great, but not the one you want to try learning on. Once you get the hang of spinning, it's not hard, though.
    Hope this helps, and I can't wait to see what your decision is!

    I spent one week in NY with my grandkids and got to experience the crazy school/cooking/sports schedule - softball and football. Hectic, I was exhausted, but I loved it. I MISS it SOOO much from all three of my own children. When you feel stressed and tired, remind yourself that this is a phase in the wonder journey of being a parent - and you will miss it someday. Hugs. I have yet to get the spinning bug so I´m very anxious to see as you share your journey. 24Birds is so fun - I´m just starting 4th clue so a bit behind, but loving it.

      I couldn’t agree with you more about parenting. It is all-consuming, and even when I’m tired of all the running around, I know I wish it would go on forever. But, such is life. Nothing stays the same.

    I used to sell my handspun yarn and had 3 spinning wheels - a Kiwi, a Lendrum and a Ladybug. When I stopped selling yarn and needed to downsize my wheels, I kept the Ladybug. I can easily spin any weight yarn I want without any fuss on this wheel and I have a Woolee Winder on it. I bought all my wheels second hand which is a great way to get started, one from Facebook marketplace, one from Craigslist and one from the Spinners Marketplace on Ravelry. I loved all three wheels and have no complaints about any of them but the Ladybug was my favorite. It’s quieter than the kiwi and the Lendrum and spins like a dream. Welcome to the rabbit hole of spinning!

    I'm loving watching your progress of the 12 birds! I'm currently working on an all brioche circular shawl (Brioche o'clock, by Julie Knits in Paris). Its my second one. I agree they're not as wearable as a regular shawl, so are more a labour of love to just produce a thing of beauty to snuggle under as I do my next project - lol! and I'm really keen to see how the actual 24 birds looks in the end as a possible project to do, as I really enjoy lace - doing it, and looking at it! xxx

    Thank you for the suggestion of the Shizen...looks great! Just as I was wondering if the Linen Quill I have would work, you said that's what you are using! I'm intrigued by the banana yarn though 😊. I'm enjoying my 24 Birds...I'm about halfway through Clue 4, and should have no trouble getting it done.

    I cannot wait to see how you go with the shaping of the hat. I tried to crochet that hat last year and failed miserably and gave up after the steaming. I wish you luck and hope that you can get it and inspire me to try again. Agree 100% with the difficulty of crocheting it with the small hook. I’m also a fellow broad shouldered lady and looking at your cardigan, maybe the issue of it falling off is because you need more/wider fabric for your shoulders? Maybe adding an applied buttonless button band?

    Have you considered using stud buttons for your Kallias? You can use the stud buttons to close the cardigan and they don’t require button holes nor do you have to sew them on. Jul Designs makes some.

    You cardigan looks pretty! But I know it isn’t what you hoped it would be, and that is a bummer. Maybe if the fabric is really dense it can be like a jacket?
    Your new cast on will be so cool! Can’t wait to see it come to life.
    I think we are just in a tiring period of parenting. Those newborn sleepless nights seem easy now! Between work, the house and parenting I’m falling asleep by 10pm so a game that ends at that time seems so late to me! ❤

  • @sc00badive
    @sc00badive 9 месяцев назад

    The collar on the Kallias looks wide enough to fold back would that draw it up on your shoulders more, is it possible to do that? That yarn looks beautiful in the sweater, but I'm with you, I hate clothes that I have to keep adjusting. I just want to wear clothes not constantly fuss with them. You could always add a button or something.

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod  9 месяцев назад

      Ya, I’m thinking about adding a button or a snap…I don’t think I can fold the collar back. Would require adding some more fabric, and I’m so done with that sweater! I think I am going to enjoy it as is. Not every piece will be our favorite!
