- Content warning: This video contains accounts from survivors of conversion practices in the UK and references to abuse and suicide.
Did you know that conversion therapy - which is any practice with the predetermined aim to change, 'cure' or suppress someone's sexual orientation or gender identity - is still legal in the UK? Or that 1 in 5 LGBT+ people in the UK have experienced this abuse?
Together we need to ensure that the government bans conversion therapy, and that the ban covers the whole LBGT+ community, with no loopholes.
If you are moved by the stories of Joe, Alex, and Grace in this video, and the thousands of others who have been subjected to conversion practices, please take action by emailing your MP today:

If you think you or someone you know is experiencing conversion therapy, Galop, the UK’s leading LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, is here for any LGBT+ person who has experienced abuse and violence.
You don’t have to be sure of what’s happening to get in touch with Galop for help and support. You can visit Galop’s website at galop.org.uk, call the National Conversion Therapy helpline at 0800 999 5428 or email help@galop.org.uk

I was forced into homelessness as a teenager, 15-16 years old, for being bisexual. I could come back if I "changed'. I never spoke to that part of my family again. My friend was forced to watch graphic sexual content to ensure she'd be fearful of her transition and men/"being gay" (SHE WASN'T EVEN ATTRACTED TO MEN!!!). I am not a UK resident but in the USA we see this abuse happening constantly in the LGBTQIA+ community. I hope the UK becomes aware of the damage this is doing to the youth. I hope to see more people in positions of power speak up for us and the people I love.
@your life is yours I appreciate your sympathy, and thank you for such a thoughtful question.
At 26, I am currently working on managing my physical and mental health. I am a self advocate, homesteader and full-time student (by the grace of my partner and loans. I wish I could say I did it all on my own but I had lots of help!) I'm working on getting my esthetics license so I can specialize in skin care and acne management. I am also working on establishing a small farm and a certificate in dairy goat management so I can fulfill my dream of feeding my community!
Oh I hope these gets listened to. Stephen Fry has such a way to make you listen.
@@LushArchive Exactly, wrote a valentines to my local mp ❤️
@@LushArchive yeh loved him reading harry potter , he is fab
It’s still legal?!
@@DlguyIsbad yes I’m the uk it still is at the moment
It is also legal in Finland. Finding this our made me extremely sad and enraged. Luckily it is currently being processed by the current government and I hope they can do it in time before the change of power because it is very likely our next government will be right leaning and fuck they care about LGBTQ. All they care is about making rich richer and making the ordinary people suffer.
sorry i'm trying to bring your mood up a bit
This should be banned from my country
Love this
"Antilgbt+ abuse" does this exist as separate from say, homophobia.
Sure. You can be homophobic and not abuse people.
So… “pray away the gay” just made me laugh… im a monster
Even if banned many will find a way around it.
😢
What's the weakest definition of conversion therapy?
That's sort of what matters. The example that I care about is basically therapy that neither confirms or discomfirms transness while allowing a client to self explore their general issues.
"How will this help us sell more bath bombs?"
"Bath bombs?"
Being Gay, Lesbian and etc is not a sin. Before you judge them you must look yourself in the mirror.
What are the showing us
Use real words
Look children must honor their parents. These children are being rebels.
You must support them no matter what.
How are they rebels - they never chose to be gay
@@summerblade3790 chose not to act on those feelings
@@knoobiez thats a terrible think to ask - & if a parent asked that of a kid that should be considered a form of abuse
For being gay or lesbian - imagine someone forced you to have a relationship with someone you aren’t attracted to - please try to have some empathy
& for trans people its even less of a choice as not acting on gender dysphoria leads to plenty of terrible psychological issues
@@summerblade3790 There is nothing wrong with being gay or lesbian or whatever. But, is it still considered "abuse" if you are simply trying to persuade not to be gay and not abuse them about it? Surely that shouldn't be illegal.
