I'm from Warrington and this pastors hypocrisy is sickening. Both lines of scripture about homosexuality and eating shellfish are from leviticus. To count one as gods law and one as an Ignorable rule requires a level of cognitive dissonance that boggles my mind.

Well I don't know about the UK, but in the USA, all of the mega church pastors and a lot of the super right wing pastors are simply in it for the dollars. There is no reason for a pastor to wear $4,000 suits. They are praying on people's beliefs and fears of the afterlife. It's simply disgusting. One thing I've often wondered about this big multi-choice setup - why does it seem to be very rare that anyone chooses to ignore the part that says "this version is the only possible truth", or, more simply, the part that says 'if you believe in this one you cannot possibly believe in any others'.. my Twitter bio literally says, "I am X & Y & Z religion, all at the same time, I just pick & choose the parts of each that I like, and ignore the rest.. you know, like everyone does".

Agreed. He's direct, calm and insistent. The last part where he just coolly says "you're a disgrace" and that he will pray for him xD
I think J O'B has mastered the art of the counter factual. They are difficult to find in the better explanations of contentious issues, but this episode was a classic in the falling at the first hurdle. I don't know why the guy phoned in the first place. Rock on James, keep a little bit of heterodoxy alive
@Dr Diablory I use the word(s) in its closed compound form. This is the nominal usage for the deeper meaning I imply, (see for example constructor theory) that is not just and opposing view, but in reality any number of other possibilities. In terms of epistemology its usage connotes abstract catalysts, defining in this case what can or cant be said, by say the likes of J O'B on his talk show. I'm not disparaging James in any way, I admire his tenacity and at times plain doggedness to get people to say what they really mean or to correct the errors in their explanations.
Zzzzz

@Dr Diablory Be that guy!
I agree, usually, but in this case I’m not sure his counter factual was that great and I think a smarter and more articulate person might have been able to leap that hurdle although (a) if you were smarter you wouldn’t believe this nonsense in first place and (b) JOB other arguments were airtight
Well handled. He deserves no respect. He has none for other people. Hypocrite. I hope he wakes up tomorrow and discovers all his friends have come out of the closet.
I cannot believe that this man is a Pastor he is so inarticulate.
That was my take away too. Someone whose main job is 'communication', cannot communicate.
He missed a lot of pastor night school sessions because of Covid Lol.
James You ROCK!
love how James is so patient, in letting the callers make their point to their detriment oftentimes. this patience, one-click slower to respond is a skill to develop.
It's great. The way he lets the caller paint themselves in to a corner before challenging them is amazing!
This is why we need secularism. People shouldn't be asking religious people for advice on how to behave or think through decisions on natural, healthy, biological urges
Indeed , join the Humanist society. I have.
@Pale Rider if he's an expert in one of those fields, yes, why not.
Thanks, James, I love your logic!
I've just discovered James O'Brien and I just love the guy. Quick, bright and learned. I particularly enjoyed this piece. I'll come back for more. Greetings from Spain.
James was amazing amazing here !. He didnt miss a step here . He just covered every point with a better point every time. 👍
I always get a kick out of the "oh that's cultural law" retort. Either the Bible as a whole is divinely perfect or it's not. They trip themselves up because they know it's the latter.
I wonder if someone went to the pastor with Covid... he’d pray that away as well.
Switch your tv off and it goes away. 🤣👋
All hail JO’B 🙏. The finest non-music broadcaster in the country today. A glorious man 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.
With a worldview most people grow out of by the time they have finished their A Levels.
@@JamesSmith-vz8yr A realistic caring view of the world that supports equality. It's a shame so many people don't strive for a better world like James does.
@@MrRailjunkie OK, what subjects are YOU taking then?
@@JamesSmith-vz8yr None & I don't see what your point is.
@@MrRailjunkie I'm guessing Media Studies, and errrrrrrrm Gender studies?
I spend a lot of time praying for left-handed people to be healed and be normal like us. Jesus wanted us all to be right-handed. it's in the Bible.
Love is love. ❤
Wait! Jesus said to “leave you wives and follow me”! He had 12 men follow him whilst “John was his beloved”… and this guy actually think Jesus was Straight ??! Or a straight advocate?? Ridiculous!!!
