  • This is the agonising moment a Donald Trump supporter hung up on James O'Brien after he couldn't answer one question about the former President.
With just hours to go of the Donald Trump presidency, James O'Brien opened the phone lines to speak to listeners who wanted to defend the President.
The call started with Steven from Islington who said he was a "fan of Trump" who asserted there was a lot in the media which were lies about the President.
Steven and James went back and forth for a while over comments made by Trump, including the outgoing president's stance on Barak Obama not being born in America.
"There have been previous presidents that have actually white that have also been accused of not being born in America, is that racist?" Steven asked.
James said it was not, but asked the caller to clarify who he was talking about.
The caller did not have his ducks in a row, he told James he had "forgotten the names..."
James then spent some time pointing out to the caller things which had been said and welcoming him to rebuff them.
Which Steven did not seem to be able to do.
When James asked the caller what he likes about Trump the call went even further downhill."
"I think he spoke a lot of the truth on stuff," Steven said.
James shot back asking "yeah, what stuff?"
Click rather than answering the question the caller simply hung up.
    "Steven's hung up..." James said.

@@trentwise3762 I'm not so sure that the called didn't know if it was true or not. Likely he heard the fact from another conservative talk show and couldn't recall the presidents name. The other issue is that he wasn't just asking he was being very aggressive with the caller which causes stress that impedes brain function. When he correctly said "a president from the 1800's" the host immediately cut in to further press him. Pressure is a tactic that a more experienced debater can use against a less seasoned one to effectively defeat the person rather than the argument, and that's what I see here.
I would agree with you about having to prove your assertions, however only in a debate setting. When you are asked your opinion (especially of a layperson) I think it is a bit unreasonable to expect a bevvy of supporting facts and figures. There is a certain amount of freedom that must be given with respect to justification so that the conversation can move forward. It would then be on the onus of the parties afterwards to reference any sources.

@@Curiouzzz750 My view is that buzz words and Gish Gallops repeated over and over will seem like argument and evidence to people who do not know the nature of argument and evidence. For just one example, angrily repeating "Russia Collusion Hoax" for years sounds convincing, but it doesn't address why more than 140 of Trump's close associates had contacts with Russian nationals, why Flynn lied about his contact, why Trump's campaign manager Paul Manafort gave internal polling data of swing states to the Russians, why the Russians first began hacking the DNC five hours after Trump requested them to do so live on television, why Trump's son had a secret meeting with a Russian national as "part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump", why they lied about the purpose of the meeting subsequently, why Trump drafted his own son's statement about the meeting to lie about it, why Trump said live on television the reason he fired Comey was because of Russia, why Trump invited Russian government officials to the White House and blurted classified information to them while telling them the he got rid of Comey because of the Russia thing, why Trump continually ignored his own intelligence agents while telling the world in Helsinki he didn't think Putin was involved because Putin said so, why Trump had a secret one-on-one meeting with Putin and then confiscated the translator's notes, etc. You will not hear any of this on Fox News at all. You will only hear "Russia Collusion Hoax" repeated ad infinitum because they know their audience just doesn't care, isn't going to bother finding out, and probably wouldn't have the ability or inclination to even skim the Mueller Report much less follow any investigative reporting in the two previous years. And if you mention any of the above to a Trump supporter, they just say "fake news"...even though virtually all of what I listed above was either done live on television, was eventually admitted to by Trump himself, those involved confessed, and/or was proven in a court of law. It's not as if a bed wetting liberal at the NYTimes made up Trump's live interviews, made Trump confess, made his associates confess or plead guilty, or had any control over how a court of law found someone guilty. (And the list above only scratches the surface. The Mueller report reads like a freakin' thriller novel.)

@@Psyfonify Give me a break. There are dozens of objective pieces of evidence. Many, as I said, live on television. Trump confessed to some of it. His associates confessed to some of it, and pleaded guilty to some of it. Manafort DID give swing state internal polling to them. Don Jr. DID have a meeting with a Russian national with documented evidence saying it was part of the Russian government's support of Trump (Mueller later suggested Don Jr. was too dumb to know that was illegal). Trump DID lie about the meeting. Trump DID craft his own son's statement to lie about it. Kislyak was being monitored by the FBI! To later spin it as "Obama was spying on my campaign" is idiotic in the extreme. If you are talking about the dossier, intelligence AT THE TIME said they already confirmed everything in it except the peeing story, so disregarded it as possible Russian disinformation. But the rest of it was already confirmed from other sources and they already knew it all. All of this is on the record. The fact that Clinton ran a bad campaign has nothing to do with it.

@Jay Bee Wow, that's exactly how I feel with most trump fans. Guess it's both sides then?
I've only had a handful of useful and informative conversations with trumplicans where we left friendly (here on RUclips). Most are just nasty and name call.
It could be that people read anger or condescension into what others are writing when it's not there. I worked with a girl from Georgia making 3D products and she saw angry comments and sly jabs in everything she read in the 3D forums but I saw none of it. I even apologized to her a few times and I don't even know what I did. Just keep the peace.
