    I remember reading a newspaper story back in the day when Dexter Manley, big NFL defensive end, was in rehab, acting up in group therapy, throwing chairs, yelling out threats, and generally just being a belligerent jerk. Well, Bob Probert was in his therapy session because he was in rehab also. Supposedly, Probert was having none of this nonsense and got up and told Manley to shut up and sit his ass down or else he would fuck him up. Well, Manley sat down and was a good boy after that. Bob the intimidator!

    • @addisonaitch7738
      @addisonaitch7738 Год назад +4

      That story’s not *exactly* true. Probie did tell him to sit down and shut up, but they had a conversation first. The story as it’s told was good for the enforcer mystique. But the truth, which is that Probie connected with Dex on a human level when all these counselors and therapists couldn’t (also after Dex probably didn’t deserve the grace or empathy at that point) is much more powerful imo.

    I wish they would have asked him what happened after the third fight in the first game when he sort of suckered Probert after the linesmen had already gotten in. Were there words exchanged beforehand? Was Shelley just that pumped up? I always wondered why he did that. I thought it was cheap-particularly to do something like that to a legend. At any rate, great fights. Shelley was a tough dude. I’m glad he played a season for my Rangers late in his career. And we know who Probie was.
