In the toughness aspect it doesn't. However, people who make statements such as yourself, do not truly remember the state of the game in the clutch and grab era.
The NHL peaked in the 80s but by the early noughties, all teams were well coached defensively and 2-1 was a typical boring hockey score. A fight didn't save the day, unless it was one for the ages.
The specific time I personally remember the most fondly is probably the mid 90s, as I was a bit too young to truly appreciate 80s hockey live.

I remember when i was on a flight in 1991 from Edmonton to LA and the NY Rangers were on board. I was sitting next to Randy Gilhen and i saw Domi standing up in the aisle in front of me talking to Mike Gartner and Sergei Nemchinov. I remember Domi had on a cowboy hat and a big smile and noticed his knuckles were full of scabs and looked like his hands went thru a meat grinder. I asked Randy Gilhen if he would mind signing his autograph for my nephew who was a big Rangers fan and he actually said sure and would pass it on to the team. He then gave it to Tie Domi and he had everyone sign it except 'Moose' because Messier was sleeping and didn't dare to wake him. Anyways, thanks to Randy Gilhen and Tie Domi for going out of their way to please a young fan🙏.

@@ToddCrispies ''Don't judge him for the mistakes he made''
I find this an odd thing to say in a general sense. Why should an individual not be judged for their mistakes, especially when we're talking about a decades long list of misbehaviour and criminal activity? We are after all, talking about someone who served time in prison. That's not exactly a good fellow who strayed off the path slightly and erred a couple of times.
Perhaps you're the kind of person that considers drunk driving, drug addiction and adultery acceptable behaviour. I most certainly do not.
I can not comprehend why we'd want to pretend these things didn't happen. I have the outmost respect for Probert and the career he had in the NHL. However, that doesn't make me blind to the truth. Probert wasn't one of the ''good guys'', far from it.
An additional note. The irony in astounding when you say we should respect his family, when he failed to respect his family himself.
Frankly, I think you're embarrassing yourself.

Yup 90s early 00s were my fave. I don't watch the game now or follow it. I was at bar other night game was on and it was first time in decade watching and what a snooze fest. Then tonight Leafs flyers 2003 game 7 came up on RUclips and the difference is depressing. Way more physical but also better skating and agility imo. Then the fact they finished their checks and refs were not tight asses. Goalies were more fun to watch and more physical and obviously could play pick more. Game just ain't the same. Now it's all about tweets and rainbow tape.

@@94champs I'd rather have the pace xnd culture of the game the way it was in 80s, 90s and early aughts. Stevens was beast. Lots of tough mfers back then. The players were just different breed back then. They partied harder, hit harder, and didn't have social media to rot their egos and brains. Just watching that flyers leaf game from 03 just led me down rabbit hole of all the great names and games. It really was a better sport and the culture was way better. Hockey was the last stand of badassery in pro sports but now it is falling to the all inclusive soft pc environment. Not to mention guys were still valuable in their later years and still were stars. Not gonna lie, I got a little emotional. Makes me think of the background of an era. I miss my parents and grandparents so much, loved watching the boys. It was a great moment in time!

I wanted and got a NYR #28 Domi jersey for Christmas 1992 when I was 13. It was best Christmas present ever. Domi got traded 3 days later to Winnipeg and I was devastated. Still have it to this day, it doesn't fit and it’s pretty beat up but it’s still my favourite. Thanks Tie and Rob for the great memories.

I lived in Buffalo during this era and saw most of these fights. I miss that era a lot. I barely even watch the NHL anymore.

Good to see. The hearts of champions and warriors. I played in the 70-80s but consider their era to be the last of the Enforcers.

I personally would love to extend a heartfelt thank you to both of these gentlemen. Watched every one of these tilts growing up. They meant so much to my youth looking back, realizing it more now later in life. Great players & competitors. This was so classy bringing these 2 together like this.

These guys were why, after playing Big Ten football on a year (1-year Red Shirt) 5 years total with an injury that ended my football hopes of NFL. I went to my second sport ice hockey. I loved ice hockey, but not from Canada, so got a late start 10 years old. played in my late 20s until 48 when I hung up the blades. Had 1 fight and knocked their big guy out---never another fight. My skating weight was 285 lbs. 6% body fat---missed my calling--- wished I was younger and went hockey instead of big ten football with hope of no injury to NFL. ....I loved protecting my teammates and scoring slapshots from D. Only one time scored from behind the red line with a blazer----Even I could not believe it----Still not violent as football almost as fun for me---love ice hockey God bless all you great ones who play ice hockey from an American football/Hockey player!!! Ray v Domi---You both made the game great---We fans, ex-players love you boys!!! We all got our hockey stories---No hate for sharing!!!

Two warriors who were throwbacks to another era, Domi will always be my favorite he fought hard and put on a show then make you laugh and he would sometimes hug his opponents and let them know that he respected them!

Most of the fighters back in the day seemed to really respect each other. It’s amazing. They could be trying to knock each others head off one moment and ready to go out for a beer together the next moment. They had such a tough job. Warriors.

That was really nice to watch.
Grew up playing ol time hockey.
Throughout the 80s, the game was starting to change. I wasn't a fighter. But was in a few. I took a few pops to noggin and nuts between lightning up the pipes.😎 Respect to all those who protected me when otherwise I was toast!
    Thank you for producing this.👍

My favorite part of this is how back in their playing days they were enemies on the ice and always were going at each other. Now, they can get together like 2 long time buddies and reminisce about the glory days. Gotta love it!
