@@chilepeulla Something really fascinating as food for thought: Kim Wexler was born and raised in a small town in Nebraska. All the black and white scenes of Saul in the aftermath of breaking bad also indicate that he escaped to a small town in Nebraska. @Dio52 You don't know that Mike's life in the military or as a cop wasn't interesting - that's an assumption only. It really takes some doing for someone to perform a complete u-turn in their principles after serving their country in two distinguished, highly respected roles...yet Mike's done precisely that. Such a huge change in character leaves an awful lot of writing headroom, I'd say.
I watched Breaking Bad a second time for my wife to watch it for the first time and I was waiting for Saul Goodman! I kept telling her: "Wait for the lawyer to appear, that's when everything starts"
I really needed to see Bob talk about his character. I've been a fan of Bob/Saul for years. I even received a "Better Call Saul" t-shirt as a Christmas gift probably about eight or nine years ago. I had been binge-watching season four for the past week and now I'm on to season five and I can't believe I had never seen an interview with Bob talking about Saul. I cannot believe he is 57 years old. I love the show and I want it to continue for always.
This video was posted on my birthday and it was the best present I got this year. I've been a huge Bob Odenkirk fan since the mid-90's when I took it upon myself to go out and proselytize and spread the word to all my friends and select members of my family about Mr. Show which I felt everyone in the world needed to see. After Mr. Show I kept people informed always on what Mr. Odenkirk was up to over the years and not just Bob but his brother Bill and every time I would see John Ennis or Jay Johnstone in something I'd point him out to people and if they weren't familiar with that whole crew or with Bob I'd give them the whole spiel with the firm belief that I was helping people to enrich their lives and not just boring the hell out of everyone. And so as a result people around me became fans too even people I would least suspect. I have an uncle who is fairly conservative and Let's Go To Prison is his all-time favorite movie, my nephew loved Futurama and the family bought him almost all of show's action figures, my youngest brother borrowed my Mr. Show DVD's and showed them to all his roommates and friends in college, and so on. And then came Breaking Bad which my brother introduced me to and when Season 2 Episode 8 aired for the first time we both lost our freaking minds. Here was a show which we both liked a lot and watched together, the first time we were dedicated to a show since the damn X-Files (which is pretty ironic), and then all of the sudden, perhaps my favorite famous person, Bob freaking Odenkirk shows up in the show? It was mindblowing. And then after all the talk about BCS and the way it seemed like it was being delayed and like it was one of those things that was better in theory than in practice, like something that is fun to talk about and dream about but would just never work out in any conceivable way, it just felt like it was never going to actually happen. And then it did and it ended up being better than the original show and surpassing all of my guarded expectations and now it's the only show me and my other brother watch together, again, the first show the two of us have watched together since X-Files. And it keeps getting better every season. It isn't like Dexter which took a huge nosedive at the end, it isn't like Fargo (which Bob was great in) or True Detective which has as many bad seasons as good (actually I think Fargo has 2 good 1 bad and TD has just that one good first with Season 2 having more strong moments in total than Season 3 did) and my only comedy show left, Always Sunny has gone down in quality to the point that I didn't even bother with watching the most recent season yet. BCS is still great, somehow it keeps getting better, and the people behind it have already demonstrated that they know when to make an exit so as much as I'm gonna miss the show after it's over I'd much rather remember it fondly than be in the position to where I start to wonder why I liked it in the first place like I do with shows that have worn out their welcome. And I am so freaking happy for this guy that I am a borderline creepy almost stalker-like fan of. With all that he's done behind the cameras for the beginning of his career, with all the time that he spent making people who were household names look good while at the same time remaining an unknown, and with how nice of a guy he seems to be in real life, it just couldn't have happened to a nicer guy to be the star of the best show on television.
bob odenkirk so damn humble...bruh you made this character pop out so much he became a spin-off just successful as the original franchise. so yeah. thanks bob.
My thoughts on the Jimmy and Kim situation. She probably doesn't die because then Jimmy would probably not go on as Saul Goodman since that's the character that probably got Kim hurt trough his actions. I think that they split up under different circumstances and that's how it stayed during breaking bad and his future as a cinnamon-bun salesman. But I think in the end of all this, situation with Saul going undercover and being afraid constantly and not really having a great life will end happily... I think Kim will look him up and be outside his house at some point, and it all ends up with them getting back together. That's the ending I want at least :)
Theory. Last season of Better Call Saul, Jim McGills gets caught by the police in his new identity, gets transfered to Albuquerque for his trial. Nobody wants to represent him in court. Kim appears in court after all these years without seeing him. Jimmy sees her. He knows she can't win the trial after all the events of Breaking Bad, but she's there. Starts crying. End of the show
My wife and I have watched the series twice up to the current season, and during both binges, we've said they all deserve GG awards. Great stuff! Thank you Vince, Bob, and the entire cast and crew for top-notch entertainment!
yeah, it's pretty noticable how much older everyone looks, especially characters like crazy 8, but once you get into the story and trying to enjoy the episodes- you don't really even think about it, i'm glad something like that didn't keep them from making the show because i really enjoy it.. 50% off, i wish i had something illegal to do so i could yell 50% off before i did it. that was a great montage of felonies, one of the funniest things i've seen on tv since walt said he had to finance the world's most expensive alibi lol.
Saul Goodman is one of the greatest characters put on any screen. I’m so glad Bob Odenkirk has been appreciated for his incredible range and talent. I’ve loved him since Mr. Show. No one could’ve brought as much life in the Saul Goodman character as he has.
i really thank how i met your mother for this AND for being my favourite series alongside Breaking Bad/Saul. So thank you Bob and HIMYM for the gift that's Mike.
Best show I've watched so far. Liking it much more than BB. There's just something about Jimmy that feels so relatable, he's not just a conman but a gambler and he always puts everything at stakes and seeks for the best outcome, such a lively character.
I really like listening to Bob talk about his character and thoughts behind it. I’ve been a fan and watching BCS since it’s first episode and first season every time it was on TV because I knew he would be great, and I haven’t been disappointed. He brings a life to the character that is so fantastic and really makes me a fan of a show in a day when I’m not super into shows generally. Him and Andrew Lincoln I’m The Walking Dead are my favorite TV show actors now. If I could meet Bob one day would love to tell him what a fantastic actor he is and have just enjoyed watching him every time he’s on screen. Great job my friend 👍
The day the first trailer for BCS dropped, a friend of mine called to tell me he sat next to Bob Odenkirk on a flight from Los Angeles to Texas. He didn't bother him. Odenkirk had a big stack of Esquire magazines and some unplugged headphones. It was clear he didn't want to be bothered. My friend respected that, pulling out his own book, a historical nonfiction book by Reza Aslan about the origins of Jesus Christ. Apparently Odenkirk noticed, and struck up an enjoyable conversation about Jesus that lasted most of the flight. At no point during the flight did my friend acknowledge recognizing him as an actor. At the end, my friend told me he considered asking for an autograph on my behalf, but didn't. I told him it was the right move.
I so much want this show would go on for 100 seasons. All the characters are perfect, the direction is stellar, the writing pure genius ! I hope to see more from Vince Gilligan and Paul Gould.
I didn't watch it until recently. Not my kind of thing. But lockdown made me try it and I watched 4 series in 2 nights. So well written and acted that I don't care if the guy is older in the prequel. It's really, really very well done.
Great interview, where Bob Odenkirk is speaking so honestly. Also, it's so impressive to hear about the writing team for BB and BCS just runs with the flow and are figuring out the story 1 episode at a time (inventing the character of Mike cause Odenkirk cannot appear in an episode), are spontaneous and open to new ideas (Odenkirk suggesting the character have a mullet and Vince Gilligan just going for it) and still make the story so darn good and feeling like a generic, whole story. That to me is a sign of a talented writer!
Bob Odenkirk of all things invented Chris Farley's "Matt Foley" character. "Living in a van down by the river" - that was Odenkirk's idea when he and Farley were at Second City together in the late 80s.
I had a customer after Katrina, I needed to overnight a package & his address was listed in my system as the "van down by the river" I had to explain Fed-ex or UPS needed more detail, not that they wouldn't deliver to his van, just needing the color, make & nearby cross streets.
It is incredible to think that Vince Gilligan is a genius who created Breaking Bad as it was being broadcast, that is, practically nothing was planned. For example the fact that he decided to keep Jesse Pinkman alive due to a writers' strike or the creation of Mike E. because Saul Goodman was not available to record. Bravo Vince, and of course Saul goodman is the best character in this universe

Andy Schofield tbh BCS seems better imo. Vince is great at what he does tbh. Feels like everything in the world matters and the connections to bb are a really nice touch. Also the cinematography is next level imo
@@TheChosen1inc better how? I think it's just recency bias. It's right there but below bb still. That show is still the masterpiece.
@@dariusneidhart1068 BB was better in stakes while BCS is better(slightly) in depth and storytelling imo. Both show shines separetely.
@@kartist2455 that's just recency bias. Let's just wait for a year or two.
I'm sad that it's ending but Im looking forward to watching all of it from the start and saying "oh, I should have picked up on that" many many times.
I feel personally robbed that each season of BCS is only 10 episodes.
I thought that but the final season is gonna have 13 which will bring the total count to 63 episodes and that's the same as breaking bad
I'm not bullshitting anyone when I say this, and I truthfully do mean it... I legitimately thought that was Kevin Costner in the thumbnail for this video.
hahahhahaha! you're NOT Kevin Costner. I was last night ;^)
That is so great :'D
It worked because Bob himself thought he is Kevin Costner
And LIKE Kevin Costner, he's just playing himself.
TideatMileHigh And you believed it because HE believed it. 😆
As someone who values language, I gained uncanny respect hearing Bob Odenkirk saying "bifurcated".
I went straight to Google 👀😂
This, this chicanery

I agree, Kim and Jimmys relationship is some of the best television I have watched over the years. Its immensely complex, very realistic and brings a wide range of emotions to the viewer. Better Call Saul is such a fantastic show. I enjoy it as much as Breaking Bad.
I actually can't decide now which is better: Better Call Saul or Breaking Bad. They're both so good.
I’ll make my decision after season 6 is over. Because the 2nd half of Breaking Bad’s final season was very important in making it a masterpiece.
Breaking Bad will always be better because of the stakes in the show. But BCS is going to blow our minds with Kim for sure.
I hope Better Call Saul features cameos of other minor characters from Breaking Bad like the chemistry teacher.
Mike Ell I think u missed the joke
Mike Ell Then it should've been good.

I love interviews like this. I wish we could see more deep reflection and analysis from creatives. So many interviews are just clickbait crap. Of course it helps that the material is so rich in this case.
I love how Odenkirk talks about the dichotomy of Jimmy and Saul as if he’s a superhero with a secret identity - so cool.
Both shows feel a little superhero/comic book-influenced. When Walt shaved his hair off, Jesse said he looked like Lex Luthor, and he jumps between mild mannered family man and ruthless drug kingpin.
@@axebomber2108 Breaking Bad often felt like a really really dark version of Batman and Robin at times.
@@etanaedelman9011 Yeah. I thought Walt even sounded a little like Batman at times, like Adam West gone gritty(like a professor with a dark edge).
@@axebomber2108 Gus's meth lab also kind of looked like the batcave in the Adam West show. And when he dies he looks like Two-Face in The Dark Knight.
“…yeah, he’s funny in relation to these horrible people who are in hell.” Perfectly describes every character in breaking bad.
It’s amazing how listening to Bob talk feels so much different from watching Jimmy or Saul. Maybe it’s the hair and makeup, but they’re like two different people.
Pedrogonzalez they’re actually 4 different people 😂
@@Fedesiete who's the 4th? Kevin Costner?? 😭😂😂
Pedrogonzalez that's called acting. He's an actor. There are people like Will Smith who always act the same - as themselves, since they have that likeable and positive energy. Not a lot of people like that though.
@yanny Maybe it's Gene?

Lalo is by far my favorite villain in this show. Definitely beats Gus in Better Call Saul. Gus’s character in Breaking Bad is untouchable, but he is a very stagnant character in Better Call Saul. I guess there’s not much left to say about him. Lalo is a breath of fresh air as a competent adversary to Gus, something he hasn’t had since Walt in Breaking Bad. Gonna be interesting to see how Gus defeats him.
Vince Gillian does not get enough credit for his storytelling. He’s been in the same universe for 2 shows and a movie and he still keeps me hooked.
Bob is straight up one of the best actors of our time
What a simply incredible actor Bob is. He's so modest, insightful and down to earth in this video, yet his portrayal of Jimmy McGill is absolute genius and nothing short of stellar. Bob, you've created one of the greatest characters I've ever seen on TV, and that's no easy task. Hope you eventually win every gong on offer, mate - you deserve it. Greetings from England.
All the actors are incredible on this show. But, a shoutout for Tony Dalton who plays Lalo. He plays the villain so well. Really menacing and lives up to the Salamanca name.
Greatest show on TV right now, can't wait for the third episode, the general progression of the show and the character's arcs completed as we approach the ending. Saul is such an amazing and nuanced character as is everyone else on the show. Better call Saul stands on a back of a giant and so far it has exceeded all of our expectations.
NotoriousCask Absolutely right. This show is so good it’s almost ridiculous.
Bob Odenkirk is definitely one of my favorite actors!
7:25 "Chuck kills himself as a way to kind of... win." Yo, I never thought of it like that.
How is Chuck winning by killing himself? Is he hoping the guilt will pull down Jimmy forever?
@@willk4783 the dead are always seen as righteous. And there will always be a finger pointed at jimmy (by Jimmy and others) as being a leading cause of Chuck’s demise. So Chuck bows out as a saint and Jimmy will forever be seen as the villain.
@@5piral0ut I guess so. One of Jimmys final acts with Chuck was betraying him by exposing his mental illness in front of everyone, including his ex wife. In that case Im not sure why Chuck put on a big show for Jimmy before he died of filling his house with electronics and music and then telling Jimmy that he is insignificant in his life if he wanted it to be clear that his death was Jimmy’s fault
Let's cross our fingers for the Emmys this year 🤞🏻
Such a sweet humbled spirit. Happy Odenkirk is getting so much recognition. The man deserves it.
Damn. Really insane how Mike was created because of Bob not being able to do the 4th episode. Mike is one of the best characters so I’m glad that happened
I love the character of Saul Goodman. The time I know there is a full fledged show out there after breaking bad i was immediately hooked on.
same
this guy just makes me smile.. i want more of him in movies, he's excellent.
wait but how did u know who he is? girls dont watch breaking bad!
09:50 I’m *fascinated* by the idea that Jimmy couldn’t go on if something TRAGIC happened to Kim.
*AS A FAN* Bob is experiencing the show *the same way* we are. _Which I absolutely LOVE._
PS *BY FAR* the most distracting thing about the show has been the age of *Kaylee Ehrmantraut.*
I’ve been saying this, if Kim was dead or in jail because of him in BBs timeline, there’s no way jimmy could be a functioning human being, let alone play his Saul Goodman persona with such confidence and joy. I feel the same way as Bob, they are not together anymore during that timeline, but each moved on and they probably even run into each other from time to time. What I wanna see is how it plays out at the end, during Gene's timeline
@@chilepeulla Something really fascinating as food for thought: Kim Wexler was born and raised in a small town in Nebraska. All the black and white scenes of Saul in the aftermath of breaking bad also indicate that he escaped to a small town in Nebraska. Gilligan probably did this to leave the possibility of reunion on the table, but we can't be too sure.
Ekam Virk absolutely man! I also noticed this while rewatching BCS, in the scene where Kim is interviewing for a job in Rich's law firm.
Bob is such a good actor. The whole cast is so incredibly talented. The chemistry between them all is just soooo good.
Seeing him exhausted dragging those bags across the desert drinking his own piss made me laugh out loud because just prior to that he had mesa verde at the palm of his hand and was even scoffing at howard telling him hhm was beneath saul goodman.. Man thats great writing and great acting
I love every cast members impression of Vince it’s always on point lmao
Waiting for the spin off of younger Mike after Better Call Saul is done.
Yes! I would definitely watch that!
a spinoff for Badger and Skinny Pete would be insanely funny
@Dio52 You don't know that Mike's life in the military or as a cop wasn't interesting - that's an assumption only. It really takes some doing for someone to perform a complete u-turn in their principles after serving their country in two distinguished, highly respected roles...yet Mike's done precisely that. Such a huge change in character leaves an awful lot of writing headroom, I'd say.
All i want is a Huell spinoff
Nah, if there is one is has to be, how the salamancas and Don eladio and Gus came up in there respective countries...
Litterally I could listen to Bob Odenkirk talk forever
Like his voice is just 🤌🏻 perfect
I watched Breaking Bad a second time for my wife to watch it for the first time and I was waiting for Saul Goodman!
I kept telling her: "Wait for the lawyer to appear, that's when everything starts"
1:25 His impression of Vince Gilligan 😂😂😂
Ten Thousand Crows In a Trench Coat You mean 1:33
Dude plays so well that i can’t see him as Bob Odenkirk
bob odenkirk so damn humble...bruh you made this character pop out so much he became a spin-off just successful as the original franchise. so yeah. thanks bob.
I would also love to see an interview from Rhea Seehorn, her performance is outstanding and her role is as important as Chuck.
He's a bloody good actor!
Are you kidding me?
He’s GREAT!
It's great to see him so invested in his character and the story. He truly cares about this show and it shows in his performance.
damn this interview is pleasing, wow, great actor, such rational person, wow
End of the show
Damn .... that's genius (and heartbreaking). Kudos!
Ooooooh that’s good
Why couldn't she win? Who's going to testify against Saul? Skyler?
Nah.
I really think she is gonna die
Bob is solid gold. we can never imagine a character without him .
When you finish watching this, watch it again. This is a priceless artist, speaking! Good Heavens!
My wife and I have watched the series twice up to the current season, and during both binges, we've said they all deserve GG awards. Great stuff! Thank you Vince, Bob, and the entire cast and crew for top-notch entertainment!
He did a great analysis of the development of his character. This was a really good interview
yeah, it's pretty noticable how much older everyone looks, especially characters like crazy 8, but once you get into the story and trying to enjoy the episodes- you don't really even think about it, i'm glad something like that didn't keep them from making the show because i really enjoy it.. 50% off, i wish i had something illegal to do so i could yell 50% off before i did it. that was a great montage of felonies, one of the funniest things i've seen on tv since walt said he had to finance the world's most expensive alibi lol.
I definitely noticed age but didn't care one bit! I'm here for the wacky camera angles and plot twists. Such an amazing show all around.
I don't think it's noticeable unless you watch this right after Breaking Bad. I haven't watched it since it ended.
I'm obsessed with this show. Every single character is amazing. I wish this show could go on forever.
Saul Goodman is one of the greatest characters put on any screen. I’m so glad Bob Odenkirk has been appreciated for his incredible range and talent. I’ve loved him since Mr. Show. No one could’ve brought as much life in the Saul Goodman character as he has.
I believe Steve Carell could.
@@danlewis1885 yeah, i think so too
i really thank how i met your mother for this AND for being my favourite series alongside Breaking Bad/Saul. So thank you Bob and HIMYM for the gift that's Mike.
Kudos to Saul for giving us his time and an insight into Bob Odenkirk
What he said about Kim I think is spot on. I’m dreading the moment when we discover what ultimately happens to their relationship.
I was amazed by this interesting interview, its GREAT
Best show I've watched so far.
He was nearly spot on about the outcome of Jimmy and Kim, just wow. The only thing he got wrong was seeing Kims lawyer advertisments...
I didn't watch it until recently. Not my kind of thing. But lockdown made me try it and I watched 4 series in 2 nights. So well written and acted that I don't care if the guy is older in the prequel. It's really, really very well done.
For me "Better call Saul" is first of all story of Jimmy and Kim. Looking forward (and scared also) for the finale of this story.
He IS good at impressions. He replicated Vince's voice perfectly.
Damn, Bob actually predicted Kim's outcome in BCS Season 6
No disrespect to you or Bob, but it’s a prequel to a show she isn’t mentioned in. It’s not exactly a tough prediction.
That was brilliant. These are rarely any good, however, the insight here into Saul from Bob was so on point.

This is a fantastic interview. So cool to hear his honest thoughts on his amazing work.
Absolutely love BCS, it just keeps getting better. The cast and show really deserve some awards. 👌
He wrote the sketch out in about 15 minutes in his Chicago apartment. Not too shabby, lol!
No
I had a customer after Katrina, I needed to overnight a package & his address was listed in my system as the "van down by the river"
I had to explain Fed-ex or UPS needed more detail, not that they wouldn't deliver to his van, just needing the color, make & nearby cross streets.
So much incredible information in this but that Vince Gilligan impression was bang on
It is incredible to think that Vince Gilligan is a genius who created Breaking Bad as it was being broadcast, that is, practically nothing was planned. For example the fact that he decided to keep Jesse Pinkman alive due to a writers' strike or the creation of Mike E. because Saul Goodman was not available to record. Bravo Vince, and of course Saul goodman is the best character in this universe
Just binged watched all of Better Call Saul in the last 10 days or so, loved it, can't wait for next week's episode. Such a brilliant actor.
Might be the best character on TV at the moment.
Kim Wexler😅
Love Bob Odenkirk as Bob Odenkirk, as Jimmy McGill, and as Saul Goodman!!!! So happy you had someone to tell you to do this!!!!!
It took a while to get over how much older they look than they did in the “future “ but I still love it. P. S. Bring in bill burr already cmon
same here... when the new season of better call saul started, i missed breaking bad so much to watch it again and i was like, damn mike and saul should be older but they cant blurry their natural signs of age (but the makeup people did a good job tho)
Bob Odenkirk doesn't. He may be a bit overweight in BB and has slimmed down now.
10:00 -- it was tragic to see Kim pack her bags... well and then... last season watching the run.
