I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

Spinning: cast any lure, cast into the wind, vertical fall/presentation, no backlash.
    Baitcaster: Damn it!

I remember a fellow fisherman was trying to convince me to "upgrade" to a baitcaster because I was using spinning to catch king salmon. I told him I don't want to deal with backlash. And he said it just takes practice and he recommend his baitcaster reel which comes with a feature that helps prevent backlash. I was intrigued. And then a few casts later, he had a backlashed that took him out of commission for 20 minutes, and then he was like "Yea, stick to your spinning." LOL

After buying a new baitcaster I have to admit, my spinning gear might start to collect dust lol. One thing I never considered was that when you lose line on a spinning reel, your casting distance will go down. You don't have that problem on a baitcaster because there's no spool resistance.

I have started to use my spinning combo less and less. I have an Eagle Claw rod and an Abu Garcia Silvermax 10 for my spinning combo and a Duckett Ghost and Lews MS1SH for my casting combo. There is a tremendous difference in the quality between the two combos. I actually paid near the same for the two reels, thanks to clearance sales. I bought the Abu at retail $30, and the Lews for 35$ on clearance(retail 100$ at that time). Really, the clearance is the only reason I even got a casting combo. I had a friend's dad get one a few years back and he couldn't figure it out, that left me with a bad taste for it. I figured since it was a nice reel for cheap that I would give it a shot. I would not say I have a single regret. I paid only 25$ for the Ghost rod(100$ retail) on clearance as well. I will be honest and say that I would not pay even today's retail for my casting combo, it'd be 180-200. I just don't have that kind of money to spend on anything, let alone a fishing combo. I'm not sure if getting a better rod would make my spinning experience better, but I have a cheaper Eagle Claw casting rod that I refuse to use now that I have tried the Ghost.

I grew up on using spinning reels and it helps whenever I go saltwater fishing. I was flats fishing when my friend who was using a baitcaster hooked onto a 20+ pound redfish and it took him 20 minutes to get it to the boat. I got about the same size fish using a 4000 size shimano stradic and it took me 5 minutes or so. He told me I'm going to stick to bass.

I like baitcasters they are fun, but they flat out suck for really light rigs like just a hook and nightcrawler while creek fishing. But a spinning rod is great for light rigs or heavy, and can do everything a baitcaster can, but more importantly can do everything a they can't. If I had to pick only one, spinning setup no question! But for heavier lure bass fishing I like baitcasters 😎

I use a bait caster for top water, bottom fishing, jigs, chatter baits. I use a spinner for weightless texas rigs, whacky rigs. I like the natural fall of weightless worms. If I had to pick one of the other. I'll go with bait caster.

I think I speak for every experienced angler when I say they both serve a purpose. I have super expensive baitcasters and spinning setups so it's hard to choooooooose lol I love all things fishing

What’s the purpose of each. I have 6 spinning reels. I buy them after debating on getting a bc but can’t justify one when spinning reels are just better when I compare them. Spinning reel has less problems and easier to fix line, or broken parts. Simpler is better in my opinion.

Well I just made a crazy move and got that orange 'Crush' bait caster and now I find myself watching this and see you guys are crazy for it. I'm learning to not bird nest it unlike my spinning setup lol thanks for this totally awesome vid.
