- I decided that it was time to take the leap! I've always used spinning rods/reels but I wanted to upgrade my arsenal and try out a baitcasting rod and reel! I've never used a baitcaster before so this was definitely an interesting experience!
Thank you all for showing so much support! We're almost at 1,000 subscribers! Craziness! Special video coming out at 1k! Lets keep this rolling!

Cut me some slack! I am extremely new to this kind of reel haha. I'm sure there are still many more birds nests to come. Tight lines yall.

Hey man, I work there and spooled your reel. Kind of crazy that i came across this video. but stop in again and if you keep birds nesting an lose a lot of line come in again and ill respool you.
Drew Brown that's crazy!! 😂
Whoa really!? That's actually really crazy haha what a small world , thanks for rigging me up man! And definitely! haha
hahah, No problem. I was like woah this kid looks familiar. very cool.
Awesome!

I give you mad props bro!! People NEVER show footage of them fucking up!!! "Everyone's a Pro!" Thanks for being real dude. Congrats!
I'm right handed but I reel lefty. I tried righties, but is weird
Same here -- tried a friend's righty and it felt really awkward so I just now ordered a lefty Kastking Royale Legend to go on a MH Ugly Stick rod. Wish me luck!! lol

“Hopefully I don’t get any backlashes”
All baitcaster fishermen: haha nice joke
Haha for real
Nolan Connealy true
Haha yup
I was stupid when I first got mine and put a crappie kit on and still got a backlash
So true, took me so damn long to learn how to not just backlash 1 out of every 10 casts lmao
Most realistic fishing video ever posted on RUclips. Lol.
Was that like a sneak diss to realisticfishing? If so you’re lame af
@@christianb8228 its because he had a lot of trouble fishing bro
Joshia fr bro he’s a little into deep with the RUclips fishing community😂
Kilo916 facts😂😂 who tf out here sneak dissing fishermen 😂
@@christianb8228 he just meant other people probably would've edited everything else out until the bass and been like "nailed a bass first cast zero problems"
Your reel was rigged wrong there is a little hole that you put the line through
Haha
Not sure what happened there, he put the crank bait on and it wasn't in the guide. Any lure before that the line was
I was going to say
Yes
That kinda made me made lol
you almost screwed yourself with the 6'6" model that was a spinning rod
I have my bait caster on a 6'6" and love it. Especially when boat fishing and others are in the boat it helps cast into tighter areas as well.
It doesn’t matter u yard
Talon Harrison yes it does you idoit
Talon Harrison yes it does, the spine on both rods is suppose to be bend a certain direction.
Ah yes, yards and idoits. My favorite insults
Best fishing video I’ve ever watched. With all the birds nests you had and not getting any bites I felt like it was me out there 😂
DUDE. THE LINE WASNT THROUGHT THE REEL EYE
S.E. BassinYT lol i just noticed that
S.E. BassinYT true i was literally screaming to the screen
S.E. BassinYT 😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂 shhhh lets pretend we didn't see that haha
S.E. BassinYT lol everyone makes mistakes man, ive done this a few times aswell😂
Dude, you caught fish and fun doing it. Don't give a second thought to what all these little girls on here are saying. I thought you did awesome for your first time throwing a baitcaster. Even the pros backlash their rigs. When I was learning I went ahead and bought two spools of the cheapest line I could find because I knew I was going to backlash it so bad. Bro, keep fishing and have fun. That's the whole point!
Will Wetherington true that!
ive had a baitcaster for like 5 months now and he is doing better than me
Will Wetherington thank you someone had to stand up to those babies
Exactly....I remember my first baitcaster 25 years ago and I suuuckkkkkeddd with it but you know what? I also wouldn’t have had the guts to film myself sucking with it.
Don’t listen to these idiots...half of them are probably still throwing a fairy wand on the regular
Yup I bout 99cent zebco line
You got scammed.
The Mickey mouse rod was the way to go.
Lol
Yeah the Mickey Mouse one is like the nicest combo ever Lol
trams dell no the hello kitty one is the best
I got a Shakespeare cars 2 rod it works great
Caught a 50 pound largie with the Mickey.
The facts that the line didn’t go through the line eye kills me
if you look at earlier on in the video before he get's comfy with the birds nest's the line actually was through the hole, my guess is the angler took it out to get comfy casting baitcaster as they seem to take practice to get comfy with em and expected more bird nest's.
Who else cringed when the line wasn't through the reel eye, and he almost bought a vendetta spinning rod instead of bait casting rod😅
Lol I'm still learning over here. I've always used cheap ish spinning combos, so I'm kinda learning as I go when it comes to upgrading equipment. Thanks for watching!
FirstStateFishing cheap? Says the one who buys a shimano reel on his first freaking setup😂
Cheap ish as in spinning gear not the baitcast setup..
Is that in lousville
Gavin Lone im from Louisville and was wondering the same thing. That cabelas looks alot like ours
Hey bud the line needs to go through the eye of the reel
Took me a while what you were talking about then I saw it
Saw that too loo
He’s a complete noob at fishing yet he says he “ been fishing since I was a kid.”
@@the_toxicbadger2547 Obviously not with a baitcaster.
Look at 4:27 it is through the eye. Don’t be so critical. Think about your first time fishing a baitcaster.
There’s a beautiful thing, called a line guide...
Lol yeah that was bothering me so much
Ya
Yep
Yeh lol
Yep
I'm still getting used to my baitcaster and getting pretty good at it. I find that overhead casting will typically give you a bird's nest. Side casting is smoother and results in a farther cast
I'm pretty much in the same boat, I've learned that if you accelerate too quickly on your cast that it will back-lash. You can cast however hard that you want, but you need to be smooth.
I looked at the reel and the line wasn't In the little eye on the reel 🤣😂
Him: "Oh no, bird nest again"
Me, an internet expert, having never used a baitcasting reel, but having watched several videos: "Need more drag."
Drag has nothing to do with it, he needs to put through the guide. He also needs to adjust his magnetic brakes and his line tension
Drag has to do with when you have a fish on your line if you have low drag more line comes out and more it just stops
@@IckyEmporerfishing You do know that baitcasters have about 4 types of drag, right?
It has nothing to do with drag
@@CristiNeagu magnetic brakes and line tension
It's feels a lot more comfortable if u palm the teel
Thanks for the tip! Tight lines!
FirstStateFishing no problem dude
Slaunch Master Outdoors if you get the reel on the right side it's usually more comfortable and natural of a feel. That's how I learned how to use my baitcasters
I have 4 bait caster set ups. A Lew's Mach II, a Shimano Casitas, Abu Garcia Black Max, and a Abu Garcia Power Pro for muskies. I recommend learning how to setting the weight for the lure so it doesn't backlash. Tight Lines from North Dakota!
this is my favorite video out of all youtube fishing videos. it shows actual learning. you did better than i did when i first started out
The best video regarding fishing I’ve ever seen.
Had some good time watching it.
Keep it up!
anybody else catch at 7:59 the line was not through the reel eye
outdoorsman 18 ya lol
Your line isn't through the real Eye
Venom Power 18 yep
Venom Power 18 in the intro pic you could see it
yea
Wow this was a very well edited video and you weren't hesitant you had good commentary for a 6k channel great video man keep it up I'm sure you will become a great RUclips
Damn you're hot Claire Brooks. Are you single by chance???
I remember always getting birds nests when I got my first bait caster
Like everyone else? XD
U've come a long way bro. Humble beginnings👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Frog + 12lb line =👋🏽RIP
Donald Whitlock It's mono dumbass I've pulled in a stingray surfcasting with 12 ande mono. Mono can stretch unlike braid. If your drag is correct you can pull so much more than your line is rated for
That's not what I'm saying lol it's better to fish a frog with braided line idk why u had to be so mean lol
Donald Whitlock Sorry didn't mean to be hurtful man.
why are you surfcasting with 12lb mono?
Lol I knew somebody would say something about the frog! I was just testing different things out, I wasn't throwing into heavy cover and it was a pretty cheap frog. Thanks for watching! Tight lines!
It's important to set up the reel before casting with it if you want to avoid those rat's nests. A sidearm cast is also preferable with this type of setup. It's been 2 years so I'm confident that by now you're good.
i love this vid so much i had a abugarcia mlf combo and i just upgraded to the curado dc it took my a while to learn how to cast and i love that you show the birdsnests and no one ever shows footage of them messing up so mad props to you man (:
The bait-caster I started with was a Abu Garcia Ez Cast and it helped me a lot with learning how to cast and got me really good with bait-casters
Anyone notice he was comparing a spinning rod 6.6 to a bait casting rod 7? Not hating, just found it a little funny.
Lol
Herbert T. Outdoors lol
He wasn't looking , I've done that too when they display rods like that.
Scott R it’s not that hard to notice that ur eyes one rod are way bigger than on the other one
I was looking for the first comment about that and I’m 12😂
Dude you did so good for the first time using a baitcaster when i tried to use one I couldn’t even get it out 3ft but you did really good and keep up the good work
Come a long way from 900 subscribers man, congratulations
Great job for your first time. I'm gonna be trying a baitcaster myself pretty soon and I hope that I do close to as well as you did!
I’m going to get my first baitcaster this week I’m so excited
You'll love it I got my first about 2 months ago
I just got mine
You wont regret it
Goodluck, make sure you know how to tweak the tension and brakes, just got a bait caster yesterday and already got the hang of it.
Good luck
When you first started using your baitcaster did you set up your reel brakes first?
I appreciate the honesty of this video so much, you can't possibly understand how bad I needed this today.
At 42, and on furlough bc COVID, I've decided to take up fishing again, and it's been...rough.
7:48 you had me cracking up man! It’s all good, next year I’ll be purchasing my first baitcaster as well so I’m sure I’ll be in the same boat!
You gotta set the brakes on ur reel between those lures cause their all different weights. That will fix ur backlash problem.
will howell brakes or tension knob?
Eduardo Carrillo you have to adjust both. Look up on RUclips "how to adjust bait casting rod" and it will show you why each one does and how to adjust it properly.
Thanks for the tip! I'm starting to get the hang of it, tight lines!
FirstStateFishing try to thread your line in the hole on the baitcaster you will cast farther and less backlashes
I use thumb control and super loose breaks. If u can get the hang of that u don't have to change settings between luers and can get some mad distance.
Make sure you line goes through the level wind and turn brakes on full untill you get used to it, you did well for your time. 👍
I Totally agree, i got my brakes now at 1,
You got a really good channel my brother.. love your stuff!!
Good video man, that first cast had me rolling. Just picked one up and I have to say atleast you got some distance, and some fish. Good video
Did u know that 6'6 vendetta was a spinning rod
I think he realized it lol. It's okay though because he has never used a bait caster before in his life and probably didn't do too much research.
S.E. BassinYT no it wasn't
S.E. BassinYT no it wasn't
S.E. BassinYT I've used s lot of rods and that's def not a spinning rod the eyes are way to small for a spinning rod
S.E. BassinYT oh yeah the 6'6 model was but the 7ft one wasn't I got confused lol
Anyone else remember learning with a bait caster I learned on a 15 year old bait caster and it wasn’t pretty
I inherited a bait casting rod and reel from a friend that passed away. I’ve been trying to learn how to use it and it’s been nothing but frustration. I’m gonna keep at it and I’ll catch up to your level eventually
Just bought my first bait caster I really wanted to use my bait caster but I live in Wisconsin and I have to wait for 2 months but excited to see you use yours
I don't know why everyone is complaining so much, yes I know the line wasn't through the line guide but I think that using mono was a good idea because braid is hard to get out of a backlash and it's pricy, and baitcasters aren't exactly that easy to use when you first get them.
MILEHIGHBASSING2017 !!!! the way he holds the rod makes.me cringe
MILEHIGHBASSING2017 !!!! Even tho he new to bait casters and all it still made me cringe
MILEHIGHBASSING2017 !!!! I use 50 to 65 lb braid on all my baitcasters it is super easy to get backlashes out but to each it's own
I'm still new to my baitcaster and I had less problems with mono. Think I'll switch back to mono even though I just spent like $8 on braid that's spooled on. I've spooled it like 3 times with the same line and I don't even need to cast it. It keeps tangling itself.
Graham Pedersen ...Yes Graham, the kid is having a go. I also thought he did well for his first effort. I watched his vid to the end and enjoyed it, regardless of all the negative posts. He'll be ok. he's young and confident. Good luck to him.
Cheers
It’s so funny when people hold it wrong for the first time 😂
Don’t be so hard on yourself! We’re all beginners at some point for something. I’ve never even held a bait casting rod and reel, so you’re one up on me!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video. I just made the change to bait casters. Its a learning curve. Once its set up right its smooth. lots of practice casts in the back yard.
Hey just to tell you the rods with a large first eye are primarily for spinning reels
Excellent point I didn't notice that. I don't even know how to use a baitcaster yet always stuck with spinning rods but even I know this much. There's no trigger. Getting ready to get me a baitcaster for snakehead dinners. Clearly this video won't help me learn. At least the kid had the balls to post this crap
He didn't put his line through the eye hole in the real
Coming back to this video I remember when I first tried it out it was so hard but I figured it out in one day and got my own
yo you’ve gotten so much better I remember watching one of your old videos that were absolutely garbage but you have got so much better I rate your content Offbrand A1
2:18 I miss my old reel I used to have one like that it brings back so many memories 😢 I wish I can get a baitcaster setup again
Why cant you?
Just go out an but one for like 100$
“Do you understand how important of a fish you are??”
The Redbreast dying from lack of water: 👁👄👁
he is at 300k now and he was excited for 900 ☺️ congrats on the progress
Yesterday was my first time using a baitcaster setup. I don't feel so badly now! At least you caught. I did get one interested bass, but didn't bite. And I had birdnested a good few times. But I'm determined to master this!! Thanks for the video!
If anyone hasn't said it yet, the one thing that changed my casting and how much I bird nested was learning to stop the spool with my thumb right before the bait hits water. Also, u may feel the line try to birdnest mid cast, DONT STOP IT, 9 times out of ten it will correct itself before it hits the water.
Or if I feel the spool starting to nest I’ll pull the rod tip back , and the line will catch up.
Also, try casting sidearm at first. Its easier to learn that way.
Agreed
Waaaaaay easier ,I just bought my first baitcaster and I’ve already hade 1,000 backlashes
XxxBlu 69 how, I just got my first baitcaster ever today, and I casted about 100 times and only got 2 backlashes, started off with magnets on high and then turned them off, and no backlashes
Thumbs up for one of the realest fishing videos I've seen in a while!
Great video. Just learning to baitcast myself. Love it
Nice setup. This video is making me want to jump in a plane, fly to the US, go straight to Cabelas... and spend the weekend in the store.
Best part is that you caught a fish on your first day with the rod. 👍
Sooo from the start. Love the shimono. Thinking of getting 1 2. Second Cabela's is dope. 3rd did you use ur tentioner.
No he did not lmfaoo
I still can’t stop looking back on thsi video when I bought my first bait caster and I just watched thsi video and I went out and the same day buying the reel and rod I caught my on 7lb large mouth all in the same day also my dad took me out fishing after Bugging him for at least 10 years to teach me how to use a bait caster and fell in love on the first cast and the day after that is when I bought my first bait cast combo 😂 can’t believe I came thsi far tbh now with like 10 high end combos bc I have nothing else to spend money on
Good video , I am also interested in a bait caster reel and rod . Been fishing with a spinning reel all my life so I wanted to be able to be versatile and use a bait caster too ! thank you for doing this video !
just a suggestion...if you keep your thumb on the spool while your reelingvin i helps keep the line tight to the spool so you dont have as much loose line and a little bit extra weight always helps when your learning to cast a baitcaster
hope that helps and great video!
Thanks I will definitely keep that in mind! I appreciate the advice, and thank you! Tight lines!
Did you adjust your brakes for the lure you're throwing first? Every time you switch. =)
One of the best fishing videos on RUclips to this day.
Arcasting ha ha bs
I love how I look back and it’s not even through The hole of the reel and he’s good with it in 2020
6:00 The most me moment ever recorded on this channel
Thank you for posting this. You’ve convinced me to sticking with my spinning reel.
😂😂😂 bro if u fish for bass make the jump. the birds nest are the only negative but you learn over time how to minimize them. I switched to baitcasters for bass/snook and my god im in love. (Still gotta have a couple spinning set ups - essential)
I just got one today and I bird nested one tone and that was bc I thought I could turn the breaks down and cast across my whole pond. It’s really not that hard to use and I caught 2 decent sized bass
That's what i thought too but bait casters are definitely a good idea for bass fishing
Same bro I bought a baitcaster then took it back the next day I hated them spinning reels are way better
Well update 2 months later I have a brand new metanium dc and I absolutely love baitcasters rn
Lol i was looking at the red and green when you were saying how dope it looks 😂 good thing you explained urself
Watching people use a bait caster for the first time is always funny but hey you definitely did better than I did my first time

i didn't know they make spinning rods shorter than 2.13m :o

Look at the dial on the side and put it on the highest number and the backlash won't be so easy to get.
Harrison Zorn the line will go out slow but for learning it’s good to practice with
Zachary Starling if he’s talking ab the weight dial then it will but I think he’s talking ab the braking system and it doesn’t kick in until it starts slowing down on its own and now there are crazy ones with chips in it
