Always love your content 1Rod and glad to see you back on the water! About 18 months ago my father and fishing partner of 25+ years was diagnosed with a very serious type of blood cancer. His treatment took about 6 weeks in the hospital with quite the recovery time afterwards. Just prior to him going in I bought him an Antares and made him promise to take me fishing again when he was feeling better and in recovery. Today I'm blessed to say he is in remission, we just took 3rd in a local team tournament, and his sentiments about the Antares were the same as yours: "perfection", I couldn't agree more! I know its just a reel, but seeing him on the water again makes it feel like a little bit more.
I’m so so so glad that your father survived my grandfather died of single cell leukemia and died a week later. That was in March. Granted he was guaranteed to die and didn’t want to delay the inevitable so he didn’t have any treatment. I’m so happy someone survived that horrible disease and I hope your dad lives a long and prosperous life.
That’s an amazing story and I’m glad that you cherish your dad. Tight lines!

I learned from a hillbilly in north Idaho, you don’t go cheap when it comes to hunting and fishing equipment. It’s never a matter of how much you make, it’s about how determined you are to save for the things you want.
If you go cheap with your reel you’ll just be buying a new one every 6 months if you fish a lot anyways

I bought a Shimano Callisto casting reel in 2005 for R500 ( about 30 dollars) here in South Africa. I still fish with it and still love it.

@@cartert147 I have 2 awesome high-end baitcasting reels that I've been currently using at the moment..The 2020 Shimano Metanium MGL and 2020 Daiwa Zillion 10 SV TW. Both loaded with a 40lb Ø 0.20mm Seahawk SOL X8 Ply Braid line.

@@cartert147 I haven't got my Antares DC 2021 yet. The shop I ordered the reel from, still closed due to some local law restrictions because of the pandemic. Have to wait probably another month or so.
But what I experienced from my existing ones, they are simply awesome. One (Zillion 10) that has blistering retrieving speed and the other (Metanium MGL) can cast a mile..

I will be selling my scorpion, Slx dc 71. I’ll be getting the exact one as you. I have always dreamed about a super light finesse bait caster perfection for light tackle. You absolutely sold me on this reel. Almost like a God send for so many reasons. shimano should kick you down some view time .
I feel like that one cicle it’s over. I’m from Portugal, and I watch your vids for 6 years strait and I don’t miss one single vid since. I reminder the DC 2007 since then, the twisler video, the monster bass crashing the buzz bait in a golf pound, etc. I will miss the 2007 DC, I hope you fish with it sometimes in the future.

You do an excellent job of informing us as to the qualities both these rods and reels. I'm an old guy and fished all my life but very seldom with baitcasters. Mostly with Spinning reels and when younger with spin cast reels. I only have one large casting/trolling reel that is not real castable and am looking for something a bait caster smaller then my present on but capable for up to lake stripers. Watching this video from a year ago I can see that you could feel the Magic so to speak from your new Reel! As a fisherman, I was excited for you, with you fishing your lake and catching a couple nice bass. I have viewed several of your video's in an effort to find my way to the Reel I am looking for. Right now I do feel inclined to purchase a Shimano reel more so than any other brand and so far I am liking the DC option. Cost is an option so I'm considering a used one Ideally, I need a reel with a bit more drag than many bass reels offer. Unfortunately, the amount of drag doesn't seem to be mentioned in most reviews and on ebay adds for Reels from Japan.

They have the DC chips in lower price point models! The Shimano Curado DC around $250 and the Shimano SLX DC around $190.
@@1Rod1ReelFishing I’m assuming it helps against backlash, and the different modes change up the brakes for better casting feels in those particular situations?
@@nickmac1104 yes correct it automatically applies brakes instead of you having to manually adjust for diff baits, wind, etc

Thanks for not ramming the googan products down people’s throats. I appreciate you being real and using items from other manufacturers. Digging that new Antares, I have a metanium DC but have been tempted by the Antares. Only thing holding me back is the weight.
I’m not fancy on the idea that you need a tool to adjust the spool tension.
My 2021 Antares just came in two weeks ago it’s been solid so far. The 2021 scorpion dc is pretty good also
I've fished Centennial once with one skunk. Definitely have to try that end of the lake by the boathouse next time I'm out that way.
That Antares MD is siiiick. I have it too. Go for it! Hope you catch many big bass with it!

"Hagane" literally translates to "metal". Its how Shimano differentiates between the metal, be it aluminum or magnesium, framed reels and their composite framed reels. The current Antares is a magnesium frame with an aluminum shroud over it.

You paired a $600 reel with a $100 rod! And said it felt great?! I’m confused. That googan rod is not doing that Antares any favors.
What's wrong with that, A 100$ rod for what it is, is already expensive. Fishing rods are made using fiberglass or carbon fiber sheets then coated with liquid plastic resin. If you want to overpay for your stick, go for it I guess.
Have you held one in your hands? Their rods feel pretty good imo.

I got two shimano scorpion dc hg101 (left handed) with amazon blackhawk II, why? Cause I put them in by bag and go everywhere exploring. Also, have many other rods but don't get used as often.

Like the reel! I just really couldn’t ever get used to having to have a tool to adjust my spool tension.. that would be extremely annoying and I’d just end up losing it or dropping it in the water. So me personally would pass on that model.
Same I feel like it’s just such a hassle digging through ur bag trying to change it when u switch lures I think it’s very unnecessary

Well you really are not suppose to adjust it anyways. Its not necessary and really you only hurt yourself when you adjust the spool tension on the 2021 antares dc. The manual states this. It's adjusted from the factory for optimal performance. I've never once adjusted my spool tension on mine.
You can be five rods, five reels, and I'll still watch because you have the best fishing channel I've watched. I've learned many tips and tricks from your channel.
Just bought the 2021 antares dc its worth, it palms like a curado 70 but has the line capacity of bigger reel, throws weightless rigs, neds, heavy jigs, topwater effortlessly. On a mh rod its my 1rod1reel special, it can do everything in a pinch.

my most expensive reel to date is the Curado DC haha. hardly use it but still i think its a great reel to have. was able to cast out a 10g spoon 60m which is more further than my spin setups

Sick reel, I’ve been looking at purchasing either the Antares or Metanium. Have you used the metanium? I would like to know which one is best
antares is top of the line and by far the best. but metanium is way lighter and one of the greatest reels available but unfortunately no drag click sound

Oh Centennial... the "trophy" bass lake of Columbia LOL. I was there a couple of weeks ago and only caught one 2lbdr on a caroline rig in 10 feet of water off a point. Also ever since the grass and Lilly Pads disappeared the lake has gone down drastically.

Genuine question I’m looking to get my first dc what’s different from the curudo Slx and Antares
They all have “DC technology,” but the Antares is made with the most expenses parts and features.
SLX and curado DC are both amazing reels, I’ve used each of them and would recommend them over the Antares if you’re on a budget.

Ever thought of getting the OG reconditioned? I've got Penn reels from the '90's that were made in the US that I've maintained throughout the years and they'll get pulled from my cold, dead, hands.
Wow I just got my Penn 4000 and I love it! i'm so glad to see it repped up because I didn't know they could last that long (when properly maintained).
To me you'll always be 1rod 1reel. And plus your left handed even better😁 but i bet it does help to use both.

Come to mid mo. We have a private 30 acre lake with some absolute monsters . Only about 5-6 people fish there every year. Finally got permission. Got a 14.2 pound cat this morning
If anything Shimano should be sponsoring Mike. 14 years of use and the reel is in repairable condition? It still operates after all the crazy fish he has caught. That's good press.
