Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
I've been a solid Shimano guy now for decades. Couldn't ever get me to change. last season, I upgraded and tried a Diawa again. Fist time since I was a teen. Now semi retiring, I started to upgrade my equipment again and find myself gravitating towards the Diawa stuff.
Big Shimano guy myself, wont lie, the new Zillion & Zillion HD and Gancraft/Daiwa Mago 001/003 SLP Works has been getting all the use lately. Unbelievable reels
The Elite is straight butter it requires little to no effort to cast that reel. Tatula SV and Elite are one of the best buys for the price considering you can always find them at a discount 90% of the time.
@@NikonEntrylevel I got an sv early this year and It’s so great, I’ve got a pile of tatulas and there’s a clear difference in the sv, I’ll try the elite soon for sure
Don't try a zillion sv. You won't go back. You can pick up the jdm zillion sv 1000 for under $250. Love the video and glad you gave daiwa a try. I love shimano but I have been making the switch
I love my Elites! I have both Shimano and Daiwas, I love them both. If I were forced to buy one model to use forever it would be the Daiwa Tatula Elites.
I too am a Shimano dude and have been right after my go with the old Ryobis 40 yrs ago. I bought 2 Tatula 300's for glide/big swimbaiting and they work real well. One is on a MB "Destroyer Black Jack" and the other on a MB "Destroyer Tequila Baccarac". They do a good job though there is better to be had. Good fishin bro!
I absolutely LOVED the Tatula. It is so comfortable to fish with, fits in my hands comfortably and feels amazing. The ONLY complaint I have about Daiwa is the brake dial. The way I hold my reel, when I work my bait or snap my rod, it turns the brakes up. I don't always notice it, but my next cast is a whole lot shorter. Like i said, that is my only complaint.
If you can get your hands on a Quantum exo bait caster try it. I love mine and can handle everything I've thrown at it. I switched from D and S to Quantum long time ago. All their PT tournament series are great reels.
I have used both Shimano and Diawa for 40 years. Love the both. My oldest reel is a Diawa PS10. Still fishing strong. It outlasted my Shimano Bantam 100 and 1000 reels but not due to its quality…I used the Shimano reels 100 times more than the Diawa. I do not have fancy brakes and do not have backlash issues.
My tatula gets used hard during river fishing, has landed many walleye, small mouth, musky and 2 bonus 25lb flatheads, after 4 years its still holding strong
I was like you also all Shiman reels, because why not they're awesome. Bought my first Daiwa reel about 3 years ago and been buying all Daiwa since then. I love them. If you like that one I would suggest going with the Tatula SV TWS. Worth the extra $60 all day.
I did the same thing, a few months ago. All my reels are Shimano, but I got a Zillion JDM from Japan Lure. The dollar is strong in Japan so I paid up, a little. Just over 2 bills, shipped. It’s butter, almost as nice as my Metanium.
I bought the same exact one for my son before Christmas. It’s the cheapest one they make with the TWS (T-wing system) and it’s a great reel. I was a huge shimano fan like you but once I went to the Diawa Tatula line of reels, or the DarkSide, lol I never looked back. Their higher quality reels are awesome Bro. I now have Tatula reels on 5 of my 11 bass combos, from the Tatula 80 for finesse to the Tatula 150 for my jig setup. Also including Tatulas on both my Heater Rods
I bought a Daiwa last year with me mainly having Shimano and I got to say it's definitely a good reel but the way I hold my reel the brakes constantly change all the time without me knowing unless I look or get a backlash
Wait for a year and see what you think. They come out of the box really well, but they don't hold up over time. Speaking to Tatula Elite and SV baitcasters for me. I'm back to Shimano
Justin I have two CTs and they are also bulletproof. Love this little reel and they have served me well for a couple of years of hard use. Enjoy! Mine were before the spider was put on the side.
Welcome to the Daiwa fam! I was a die hard Shimano guy, but was not satisfied with the durability of my Curados. Decided to try Daiwa and the rest is history. If you think the Tatula is awesome, wait till you throw a Zillion or a Steez..
A few years ago I switched from ABU and Shimano RH reels to All Diawa LH reels and started out with CT HSL and moved up from there with no regrets. The JDM 1516 Zillions are my high end reels and I have nothing bad to say. Shimano makes awesome reels and I never owed the higher end BC reels however I did wear out some lower end BC reels in just a season. Tight Lines
One thing I've noticed with Shimano, and Diawa bait casters; The Diawa's don't last, they tend to have more issues in my experience over time. I have numerous 5+ year old Shimano's that get cleaned/greased yearly and have had zero issues. I don't have a single Diawa that didn't have some sort of broken or failed part internal or external after 2 or 3 years of service. However, Diawa Fuego Spinning reels are my go to for saltwater light tackle, the magseal technology really works and keeps nasty salt water out of the internals.
I currently own several tatula ct reels. They cast decent, but they definitely don't hold up as well as Shimano in the same grade, (curado k). If you tie a long leader or splice your line the knot will catch in the level wind. Spools are on the smaller side.
I have the tatula 100 xs and that is the one that has the zero adjuster tension knob where it set perfectly from the factory for maximum casting distance and it also has the t wing system just for a couple more bucks at $160
i have been a Shimano guy forever i saw the T wing daiwa came out with they claimed it casted farther and smoother having never liked the small hole line guide of Shimano and most another's .i went and bought a TATULA SV TW 103 XS 8.1:1 I put it on a 7'6 Duckett Silverado 30 pd braid i have flipped with it frogged and a few more. The set up has not let me down .i was so impressed i bought another Tatula 150 p in 5.4:1 with 17 pd Fluorocarbon to be my spinnerbait reel with a alx rod Hammer hvy 7'0 it is the rod i do most of the work with. i still use all my Shimano's but the T wing and the smooth of the Tatula won me over. Great reel next will be the Tatula SV TW 70 in 6.3:1 or a Tatula Elite Pitch/Flip in 7.1:1 smooth buttery, back lashes are a thing of the past great casting very compact size . well worth the money. P.S i also have lews ,kastking, and ardent reels so far Tatula i feel is a better reel.
I have a Shimano Curado DC 150hg, and a Daiwa Tatula 100h. The character of the 2 are completely different but I love using both. The Tatula is definitely the smoother of the 2 and tuned in right it's almost impossible to backlash.
I been throwing diawas for 8yrs and I can tell you wait until you very ahold to the high end ones I own quite a few of the 100h and they are awesome I switched from a Shimano to a diawa and never looked back... My buddy switched after he caught fish with my diawa reels he's hooked on em now 🤣🤣
That TWS system on Daiwa was a total gamachanger for me, because I only use super thin braid and jigheads. DC Shimanos also good, but TWS got less backlashes for me on windy conditions. Comparing those to other reels is not even fair game. Personal preference tho
I’m a shimano guy myself but I do have a Diawa fuego ct and a fuego lt. And I had the $60 Diawa cg80 I think is what it was called. I took this cg80 out when the white bass were spawning and boiling. And caught around 50 fish a day for a week straight and it never missed a beat. Later traded it for the fuego cause it was on sale and really good deal but still hasn’t missed a beat
I've got a Tatula Elite on the 7'4 Heater Series MHMF and it's my go to combo!!! Try an elite, it will not disappoint. The Darkside welcomes you, Justin. Keep bringing the heaters
You have had a huge influence on the gear I've picked up in the last two years. 6th sense, DC reels. I've had my eye on a Daiwa reel and you've helped out again! Also, Great video! They never disappoint
I was shimano and then I went diawa. I've got the diawa tatula 300 use it for big barramundi and stuff here in Australia. TWS you can not fault it always puts in a better cast so smooth line just rolls out without any friction or rubbing like they do on the shimano reals
I think I mentioned this before to you. I'm a Diawa guy...Not a Shimano hater, hell they make great stuff... But sumthin' bout them Diawas that just feel right for me...could be just what I am used too. But I think it's feel and so on...great reel
Have you tried the Daiwa Tatula SV 103H reel? The SV spools is pretty crazy, you have to try pretty hard to make it backlash. I have one and really like it but I LOVE my Curado MGL 150's reels tho.
My first daiwa after years of shimano was a 19 certate LT5000, then a 14000SW certate, then a 10000 BG MQ Ark.. then a Luvias 2500S.. basically I've swapped over and this selection so far covers many types of fishing for me
I have a t wing my palm rubs the mag spool control on the left side and usually turns down the magnet without me noticing till I back lash into the wind or something gonna glue th thing on half way and forget it ....I like Shimano better but the Di is more comfortable for all day casting
Strange coincidence. I'm also a ride-or-die Shimano guy, and decided to try Daiwa for the first time a few months ago with a bunch of birthday gift cards. I happened to pick exactly the same reel you did (CT100). I used it for the last six weeks or so of the tournament season. I was really impressed especially for the money. It makes me curious to try out some of their more expensive offerings. It really does hold it's own vs. the Shimanos in the same price range. Do I love Shimano any less? no. But I get now why my Daiwa-luvin buddies are so hot on Daiwa.
Generally Daiwa reels are known for casting really far with minimal effort, lazy lobs or gentle flicks will get really impressive distance with minimal effort. You need to try an SV for lighter stuff. Easiest casting reels on the market. It will become your new fluke reel for sure. SV is super free casting and extremely controlled braking, and they skip insanely well, it’s almost impossible to backlash
I had the exact same reel and it lasted me like 3 months then it stared acting like it was dirty so I took it all the way apart and cleaned and greased it nothing changed.
If you want to be blown away with a punching setup, invest in a Daiwa Zillion TW HD. It's a bullet proof setup for heavy braid applications including frogging. It would be a great comparison video between Shimano and Daiwa for heavy grass/mats that I haven't seen. I would love to hear your opinion.
I’m about to get the Diawa Tatula 200 bc and most of my rods and reels are Lews. I also have 2 of the shimanos Slx 150 xg and love the feeling of those reels.
Hey, so quick tip, I've found the Tatula SV TWs on sale the last week for $140, as i mentioned, i bought 3 😂. Waiting for the pther two to get here. The 8,7 & 6 ratios. Shimanos are my loves, but the SV TW are color coded and it made me melt 🫠.
Maybe it's just me. I have a Diawa Zillion, a few 2020 Tatula SV T103's along with the new Shimano Curado MGL 150 and Scorpion MGL 150. They are all great reels but the Diawa's have a nasty habit. When using spinnerbaits and going for distance, I think I have them dialed in for no backlash. I'm tooling along just fine but with the Diawas, if I forget and overpower the cast, they will blow up in the very beginning of the cast. If I make adjustments to prevent it, I lose distance. I haven't had that problem with those 2 Shimanos. But for skipping, etc, the Diawas are great
Imo the tatula ct is the best bang for the buck! I’m not gonna act like I don’t love my metanium shallow, but for the money it’s hard to beat them tatulas. I have 3 tatula ct 100 hsl and they just work. May not feel like a curado/scorpion, but they cast a mile and are super smooth. There just isn’t another reel for $120 that even comes close. I’m planning on picking up a 22 zillion TWHD 1000 for some more heavy duty stuff.
I am a shimano guy myself and I chose a tatula SV for my spinnerbaits. I think you picked the perfect reel for that app. The tatulas do some things GREAT and other things just so so, but they are quality reels. Braid to leader applications are a challenge for the T-wing, but straight Fluoro is the deal. \m/ \m/
I snatched up three my local shop had a deal going on I definitely didn’t need them and like you it was my first Daiwa caster I have a few spinning but man as soon as I felt it and casted I was sold
Get the Tatula SV TW. No spider graphics, a bit bigger profile, you rarely need it, but more accessible tension knob. The Tatula SV has the best braking for the money. No traditional setting of the spool tension. Just set it with a little play in the spool, set your braking and give it a fling. Start high and work lower. You don't even have to thumb this spool in the air or when the lure hits the water.
Awesome video and i used to love shimanos but me too i have now gravitated to get Diawas! Theyre buttery smooth and the cast is beyond amazing! Im now team Diawa
I own the gray 200 dollar one, I like it a lot I own the Shimano curado, all tree of the SLXs I got the green Japanese made curados. I fish mostly salt water, red fish ,speckle trout, flounder, black drum too
Just out of curiosity, Justin.... (I picked up two of these, btw), was there anything special to spooling these up with this t-wing system they have going on?
I have 2 of those reels and love them! The only criticism is that after you cast when putting it back in your left hand, I sometimes twist that brake knob, but it’s no big deal, they cast very good on any brake setting
Most people use the wrong handed reel to where they have to switch hands hundreds of times a day. If you hold the rod with your right hand, get a left handed reel. If you hold the rod with your left hand, get a right handed reel. Thank me later😁.
@@thenigga3374 I do hold the rod with my left hand and have right handed reels? How in the world do you think people hold the rod with their left hand and also reel left handed? My point is on the casting
Zillion SV TW in your preferred gear ratio for whatever style you want. Personally I’ve never caught as many bass as my zillion sv tw setup for Texas rigged worms paddle tail grubs and jigs man I love that reel . My wrist and arm never get tired all day casts . The Steez is a wicked pissa too but I can’t justify the price and performance over the Zillion which I have 3 different ones and a Tatula , Of course goes without saying Dobyns Rods / Shimano Exprides and Metainium Dc reels my all time mix and match with Daiwas hands down my favorite tackle . Also I will be honest and add the 13 Fishing Envy Black Gen1 worm rod for some reason is amazing I cannot let it go , caught more bass than strippers catch 1s with it . While not as sensitive as my Expride I can tell if I’m on bottom bumpin a stick or rock or log or just the slightest mouth just barely testing or picking up and moving the bait not just hard strikes .Anyways Daiwa baitcasters even the cheaper models are awesome.
Hey Justin, I just came across this video, new subscriber here. I've been a fan of Daiwa since I was a teen in the mid 70's. I'm just the opposite of you with the reels. I'm true to Daiwa, don't get me wrong, I have used other brands on occasion in the past, however, I prefer, and would always go back to the Daiwa. I currently own 12 varieties of the Tatula reel, ie: 100H, CT100H, CT Type-R, SV's, Elite, 200, 300, SV TW 70... I can't say enough about the Tatula, I fell in love with them the first time I held one about 5 years ago. I really like the spider logo's on them, I think it's pretty cool. To each his own on that. I did however buy 1 Shimano reel for a Musky casting rod I own, it's the TranX 400, it is a good reel, it casts just as good as the Daiwa LexaHD 400XS-P that I own. I do like the crank handle and feel of the knob of the Lexa better. Since you've had a year of ownership on the Tatula, how often have you included it in your I'm taking this combo with me today grab? What are your impressions of it now? Tight Lines!!
Hey, I’m thinking of buying my first baitcaster, and I’m wondering if I should go with the tatula ct, tatula 100 or tatula 150. I’m mainly gonna use it for bass and occasionally pike fishing. I saw your comment and thought I’d ask👍
@no_rules_today6131 Technically, you could get away with either the 100 or the 150 for Bass and the occasional Pike. I would however, go with the 150 or 200 for your average sized Pike, and 300, or 400 if you're going to go for larger Pike. They're better equipped to handle the bigger fish. Tight Lines
I just got a Tatula SV. Pretty nice. Not sure it’s Curado nice but it’s nice for sure. What are your thoughts on it? I’ve only had mine a few days. I like it so far.
Man love seeing you trying a different brand. Hope to see you try more outside the box tackle and much more i hope your new year is much more successful. Dont tie yourself up with one brand you will grow so much more with other brands. Be you bro thats what makes you you not a brand
Yea I had shimano also Abu from Low to high end and I sold every one of them. All I have is nothing but Diawa!!! Honestly it’s the best thing I’ve done! If you think that’s a nice reel, wait until you jump to their tatula elite or even the zillion or if you dare the STEEZ.
First bc reel was a black max, next was a curado k, then a curado DC, then an slx DC, then a metanium and last one was a Daiwa zillion. It's right there with the metanium IMO. Can't go wrong with either brand, there's a learning curve to Daiwa brakes after yrs of shimanos though. Looking forward to a new model aldebaran to complete my lineup but my patience will likely land me a new slx DC 70 OR a Daiwa alphas. The zillion. Doesn't have the dumb spider on it. Cool first impressions vid.
A JDM Zillion, made in Japan, only $230...can't beat that. Got rud of my metaniums to get more zillions. The metaniums are great but the Zillion is something else. Not hating my new Lews custom pro and custom lite either. Great reels with a different feel
Awesome vid as always bro, just wanted to add to your comment about the trailer on a spinner bait, just so people have it in their minds it will actually cause your bait to run shallower with most soft plastics. It seems like it would make it sink and fish deeper but this is actually incorrect. So if you wanna fish it slower/shallow throw a trailer on it. Also team Shimano 🤘🎣🤘

P.S i also have lews ,kastking, and ardent reels so far Tatula i feel is a better reel.
The tatula elite pitch and flip is one of my go to reels and I also have a metanium. Both companies have awesome reels
I have the elite on a 6’10 Denali kovert it’s by far my favorite combo.. the problem is that Somtimes you get one that hasn’t been oiled or greased
That’s how these channels work. They influence you.😊
So any followup on how you like the Daiwa performance? I know you're a Shimano guy like me but its always fun to branch out.
I was shimano and then I went diawa. I've got the diawa tatula 300 use it for big barramundi and stuff here in Australia. TWS you can not fault it always puts in a better cast so smooth line just rolls out without any friction or rubbing like they do on the shimano reals
Bought a couple Daiwa 21 zillion sv tw g and sold all my curado’s. Still have a few high end shimano’s but Daiwa makes killer reels imo
My first daiwa after years of shimano was a 19 certate LT5000, then a 14000SW certate, then a 10000 BG MQ Ark.. then a Luvias 2500S.. basically I've swapped over and this selection so far covers many types of fishing for me
I was a hardcore Shimanno guy but I've now switched out to Diawa and won't go back. Love the reels!
Try the 21 zillion you’ll love it
Come on over buddy, u won't regret it.
I’ve caught anything and everything on my lexa 400 offshore!! I absolutely love it.
I love daiwa, I just bought zillion this year and it’s by far the best reel I’ve ever owned
I really love Daiwa reels. You made a great choice for sure 👊🏼
No thyre not!
What’s a good place to start in terms of Daiwa reels
But for skipping, etc, the Diawas are great
What did you think of the reel? As someone new into fishing what setup would you go with? Price isnt really an issue.
Shimano Metanium or Bantam. 6S Heater Seeies 7.4 Med Heavy, Mod Fast. Dialed.
I just picked one up as well. Gonna try it for the first time tomorrow. Fishing a power plant lake up here in Kansas
Hey how has the reel held up? I’m thinking of buying the ct or the new 100
I have to ask. Compared to your shimanos????? I also fish the curado dc and the slx dc.
I have the spectrum of Tatulas and they have been sturdy, smooth and reliable. Glad you enjoy it!
Tie a FG knot and thank me later. it's by far the best leader knot and you won't feel it all through the T-wing
@@MrDonohuea negative. I use the FG and it gets hung up on the t wing from time to time.
@@scottsinclair9525 fg knot should not go into the reel just tie it till before it goes to the spool.
I snatched up three my local shop had a deal going on I definitely didn’t need them and like you it was my first Daiwa caster I have a few spinning but man as soon as I felt it and casted I was sold
Not much beat ambassadeur 6500 beast SE. Trust me. Got ceramic bearings in mine, only thing you can upgrade in it. Happy new year pal
I have Tatula 200 on a dobyns 806 and a Shimano SLX on a dobyns fury 733. 2 differnet techniques but I love my slx.
I haven’t turned back to shimano in 4 years now, I have just about everything diawa had come out with sense I’m totally addicted
Get a tranx you will go back lol
I have a Tatula SV and it out performs a bunch of my upgrades Shimano’s right out the box. Absolute bomber of a reel! More Daiwa’s in my future!
The new zillion will change your life. Amazing reel only con is the paint is easy to scratch.
I now have the Daiwa Steez ct sv tw 70 and the Zillion tw g, but, I still have my metanium mgl too
Awesome video and i used to love shimanos but me too i have now gravitated to get Diawas! Theyre buttery smooth and the cast is beyond amazing! Im now team Diawa
I love my daiwa tatula ct 100xs. It was my first daiwa bait caster. Had it now for 2 years and I still love it. It’s an awesome reel.
Always watching… always liking… always sharing… much love to all the Heater Family!!! 🙏🏽💕❤️💖💝🙏🏽🙏🏽
Much appreciated sir. 🙏🏼🫡
Nice review brother! I've been a Daiwa man for over thirty years! Enjoy your work!
I own the gray 200 dollar one, I like it a lot I own the Shimano curado, all tree of the SLXs I got the green Japanese made curados. I fish mostly salt water, red fish ,speckle trout, flounder, black drum too
Recently just ordered the steez HLC, I had to pick it up because of the new hyper long cast, I’ll be having a cast off with the Antares DC soon.
Diawa for life here thanks to my dad when I was a kid.
Diawa is the Undisputed King for the ages man.
ARR Matey, I'm right there with you on that one... I've been a Daiwa fan since the mid 70's as a teen...
Shimano either stopped or just doesn't ship oil with the new SLX DC XT from Japan. Just got mine a few days ago and was disappointed to see that
cant believe i missed this vid been subbed since you were shooting for 100 follows lol under different profiles so cool to see you grow bro
I have both can’t go wrong either way. Either my reels are dc shimano or tatulas
Daiwa makes some great reels most of them ship dry I'll suggest popping the side plate off and checking
Tight Lines
@@CapnDanTreasures I appreciate it brother🤝
You wanna really fall in love with Diawa? Get your hands on the Zillion SV TW G. Its next level
I’ve got this reel, how do you adjust it do you need a Daiwa tool for it ?
I just got a Tatula SV. Pretty nice. Not sure it’s Curado nice but it’s nice for sure. What are your thoughts on it? I’ve only had mine a few days. I like it so far.
I been using daiwa baitcasters since 2008. Love them!
wow...amazing reel..
I love both Diawa and Shimano you can’t do wrong with either
Man love seeing you trying a different brand. Hope to see you try more outside the box tackle and much more i hope your new year is much more successful. Dont tie yourself up with one brand you will grow so much more with other brands. Be you bro thats what makes you you not a brand
I bought a Tatula 200 and it’s smooth! I want to buy a few more, maybe 150 or CT 100’s
Ive got several tatulas love them that exact reel you got throw crankbaits on it lipless and squarebills
Just started watching you and by far one of my favorite RUclipsrs Alr love the videos !
