*Awesome reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend especially for the price! No problems so far. Reeled in a 14lb laker yesterday and performed great. (5-10 min reel in time) Love the drag adjustment.*

I recently purchased a Curado K and a Curado DC and I love them both. The K casts really far and has both selectable drag modes as well as a spool tension knob, but it's still smooth and easy to use. The DC is amazing though, I have the 151HG version and I'm crazy about it. Mine is left hand crank because I am right handed and I crank with my left. I have been fishing for 30 years and I have used many different Abu Garcia rigs (BlackMax, SilverMax, Ambassadeur), Daiwa rigs (Procaster, spinning rigs), Shakespeare rigs (Agility, many others), Mitchell rigs (MANY), Quantum (Once again, MANY), I also have a few rigs that I put together that I absolutely LOVE like an Abu Garcia SilverMax 1000 size reel on a Berkley Cherrywood HD 7' one-piece medium rod, a Shimano Nasci 1000 size reel on another Berkley Cherrywood HD 6'6" two-piece medium rod, and a Penn Battle II on a Favorite Defender LunkersTV edition 7' medium rod, but NOTHING compares to my Curados (the DC OR the K). I have the DC on my Daiwa Procaster 7' medium one-piece rod, and I have my Curado K on my Shakespeare Agility 6'6" medium one-piece rod (yeah, yeah, I know, it's like putting American Racing wheels on a Bentley, but the Agility rod is light, easy to cast far, and I've caught big striper bass and pike on it with no problem).

I’ve been fishing Shimano and Abu for years.
Over the last 3+ years, I refuse to buy any other reel besides Shimano.
There’s a reason why Shimano wins best in show every year at I-cast.
Keep up the great work Matt!!
    I always enjoy your videos

Bradford Fields how would you compare Curado 151 to Revo Beast? Which is better for big lures (150g)?

    • @chriskoffend5253
      @chriskoffend5253 4 года назад

@@MAN__IN__BLACK For a 5 ounce lure, go with a Shimano Tranx 300. If you're talking even heavier lures, step up to the Tranx 400. The Beast has some good reviews, I don't know it well enough. The Curado 151 is too small for such a lure - partially based on line capacity. The drag on the Curado is a bit light for a bigger fighting fish - IMO. The benefit of the Tranx over the Curado 151 size is you can use it well for bigger fish - larger pike, musky, etc. . . and know the reel has the backbone necessary.

Only time I’ve found the 4th setting useful is when I’m throwing into very high winds because I could cast as hard as I could and not have to worry about backlashing which I’d have to throw pretty hard anyway into that type of wind so it was nice to not worry

The siding number 4 is actually awesome when skipping light baits like a fluke. It will turn anyone even someone who's never skip a bait into professional skipper. Try it out next time you're on the water. The settings are actually for certain lines fluorocarbon being setting three braids is setting 2 four is for beginners are very light baits or I recommend skipping. Also the line tension knob is very important on those reels you're not supposed to have it as Loose as you would on normal reels because it actually makes the DC breaking work more and you'll get less distance casting them if you have it tighten down a little. I own a couple of the Corrado DC's and an SLX DC as well awesome reels

Nice work Matt! I'm a small time sponsored LEW'S guy and I cast that reel a couple times with different clients because they owned one and wanted me to try it. It is a very nice reel and cast far. I was waiting for you to test hitting the water. I notice from watching clients fish with it, if you hit the water with the lure it would backlash, and if you cast it really hard it could backlash, but I don't know what they had it set on. Either way it is a very nice reel. Let me know how it holds up to power techniques like frogging and flipping. I can usually break them all after a couple years doing that LOL! I use to be a Shimano guy with a lot of Chronarchs and Curados. I starting buying more LEW'S in 2012 because I felt the LEW'S Tournament Pro were better casting in the wind than a Shimano in the same price point. The Curado DC is definitely a good reel for people learning to use a baitcaster. Tight Lines with the ROBOT reel!

My DC experience...Years ago I bought the Jdm Metanium DC xg for $425. Fished it for a few months, the Metanium mgl I had was way smoother & casted farther, sold the DC. Few months ago decided to buy the Metanium dc again($425). Fished 12lb floro, setting on 1 & floro setting, same results. The DC sound is nice but at the end of the day, it’s JUST another reel. At around the $300 price, the Metanium mgl is the BEST valued reel out there by far. Might be selling the DC reel again, think it’s almost time for the Metanium to be upgraded again. Tight Lines!

I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.

Thanks for your very objective review as always. In my opinion, YOUR channel much more realistic AND with very few exceptions, much more informative about the art and techniques of fishing for whatever species you’re targeting. About this video topic....I don’t have the money to get seriously into baitcasting. Out of all my 58 years of life I never did any serious bass fishing until my move to New Port Richey, FL in December 2017. I bought a cheap manufactured house that has a shallow brackish water canal in my backyard. I’m out there nearly every day or night fishing either with a bobber, or with some type of artificial. Side note....I wish with all my heart, you had the time to come here and fish along with me on my backyard bank. I’m not looking to be on RUclips, but you would certainly be able to record any portions of your time fishing here. I would really appreciate learning from you what I’m doing right and wrong particularly for Largemouth Bass. I’m willing to pay a fair rate for any time you might choose to spend here fishing. Please take this offer seriously, thanks...... I also wanted to mention two different models of the same brand of casting reel an average guy like me has been able to learn on in this past year. KastKing models Royale Legend and Megajaws. Each of these models come in some version of 5, 6, 7: & 8. The a blistering 9:1:1 gear ratio is available in the Megajaws model. Both have a ‘typical’ capacity spool, works incredibly well with even light braid (6-10lb). Even better with 40lb through 65lb which is the heaviest line I’ve ever tried on either of these reels. Both models use a magnetic baking system. Paired with either a KastKing or other brand of casting rod between 6’10” and 7’3”, these rods and reels feel wonderful and are so light compared to some of older spinning gear. I’m going to get their newest reel to test which uses a centrifugal braking system. It’s called the Bassinator Elite. I’m interested in learning which braking system will work best for a noob like me. LOL. Please feel free to contact me here or just leave me a comment where I could contact you if you’d like to discuss fishing/teaching me at my body of water. You’ve been literally everywhere, but I wonder if you’ve ever encountered the same fishing conditions I have here. By this, I mean the insanely wide variety of both freshwater and saltwater fish, turtles, alligators, and even birds that fish such as Osprey who dive bomb for fish, or the Anhinga which actually swims underwater to spear any fish it can get with its very pointy, sharp beak. All these things are going on in the water here and although I have very detailed records of my time fishing...I STILL haven’t figured out why all the typical things every legitimate fishing channel talks about rarely work in the water here? If you truly like a challenge, this is one heck of a challenging place to fish. If it matters to you, my PB Bass was caught a couple months ago and weighed 6.77lbs! For me this was a monster, and how many ??? Size bass I’ve hooked and got off, I can only imagine. No one seriously fishes this water except myself. At least I know whenever I try something new, it’s the first time these fish have ever seen it! LOL

I assume you leave the brake at factory setting as these reels are not made to change brake settings. Only time you adjust brake is if the spool is shifting left or right and has gotten off the factory setting. Having said that, what settings beween 1 and 4 on the left side of the reel do you use for both pitching and flipping?

Cool video. I just picked up both...the Curado dc and the slx dc and searching for comparison videos and saw this one. Would like to see you compare it to the slx.
I definitely subbed and hope you get the SLX dc to review..would be interesting to see an unbiased review ( but if shimano decided to sponsor you that would be cool also)

Good morning, great video. I just got this reel for my bday. And I was curious, is it better to have a stiffer rod with a bait caster or one with a lot of action. I've never owned a bait-caster before.

I got one a few months ago and I am a convert. I can cast so much further and I can cast on a dime. Only downside is that if you have a knot further back on the spool like if you have a backing, it will interpret that as a backlash and put the brakes on. Moral of the story you have to spool up all the way with flouro etc. Also read the instructions, most of the negative reviews on stores were by people who clearly did not read.

If Catch Co. started adding top of the line reels in a Pro box, I’d join up in a heartbeat. Seriously though...if you could suggest strongly to MTB to allow people like me who only can fish from the bank for Bass to Channel Catfish and allow me to choose each category of baits I’d have use for, I’d seriously consider signing up. At least half of the MTB boxes I see all you MTB guys get, I couldn’t use here, wouldn’t use here, or I already have enough of those things. LOL I think a TRULY customized box from categories such as Chatterbaits, jerkbaits, soft plastics of only specific colors, in each category...etc., etc. would give MTB a big time edge over its competition and get me to join for certain. Did I offer up a good idea, or am I the only one who would have no use for most of what comes in those MTB boxes???

I own this reel (along with the SLX DC and the Scorpion with the newer IDC5 from Japan). It's (Curado DC) a nice reel, that still backlashes, but less so than other baitcasting reels cast by the same person, with the same lure, with the same line with the same model and length pole in the same conditions alternating between rigs. It is very smooth retrieving, just a little better than the SLX DC, but both are very nice and smooth reels. I grew up on spinning gear and these three reels (purchased at the same time) are my "second" baitcasting reels for lighter duty (bass vs. Shimano Tranx 300 & 400 models that I own for musky fishing, used with 80 pound braid). My first baitcasting reel is/was a Shimano Calista, which I have managed to backlash a countless number of frustrating times. If you are less experienced with baitcasting reels and find your prior efforts to learn to be frustrating, the Shimano Curado DC will still be frustrating - but a bit less so! I can cast this reel for 1-2 hours between backlashes vs. every 15-30 minutes with the Shimano Calisto (vs. 1-2 weeks without problems with a spinning reel). I've watched countless videos on the set-up of this reel and spent a good amount of time getting to know it before even receiving and casting it. It's a very nice reel (though the DC is probably unnecessary for people with very good baitcasting experience who do not have many backlash encounters). Is it worth the extra money to get the DC versions for somebody who is less "expert" with baitcasting reels? That's really the only area where it makes sense, but even then, don't expect backlashes to disappear. To be honest, the very good casting distance of this reel (which is great) is mostly irrelevant to me, as more often than not when fishing for bass, I am making finesse casts to a very specific location, not just a flat out chuck it cast. For me, I am still much more accurate with a spinning reel than a bait caster reel, and I also find that baitcaster reels are actually MORE apt to backlash on a finesse cast than on all all-out cast. But I found this to be the case with both the Shimano DC and non-DC reels. And in this area, the DC feature is even less apparent than it is on an all out cast and will have an overall level of reduced backlashes vs. a non-DC reel for these finesse casts! Conclusion: If you have and don't mind spending the extra money for the DC reels, by all means spend it and expect to get SOME improvement from backlash frequency, just don't expect them to disappear completely. If you're more of a finesse caster (specific nearer location targets), then the value of the DC reel will be less apparent. If you're an all-out distance caster and currently experience too many backlashes (ie. more than 1 per 8 hour fishing day) with your existing non-DC reel, you are where it makes the most sense. If you don't already own baitcasting reels, but grew up on spinning gear, well the truth be told, for bass type fishing, there really is no benefit to go with a bait casting reel over a spinning reel. The truth is the slight difference in distance on comparable set-ups doesn't amount to a hill of beans - and is probably actually less actual water covered if using a baitcaster versus a spinning reel as you need to deduct time for fixing even one backlash per 8 hour fishing day. The only notable benefit of a baitcaster over a spinning reel is the speed at which your lure comes out of the water and is back flying through the air from your cast. So if you are totally comfortable with spinning gear and fishing for the likes of bass, don't expect any real and noticeable benefit of going to a baitcasting reel. I am sure the reel manufacturers hate somebody stating this, as they've seen the baitcasting reels as marketing genius to convince fishermen into replacing all of their perfectly good spinning reels with a new reel they pay "professional" fishermen to promote and use in an effort to convince us that baitcasting reels are better . . . and then of course, we need to replace all of our rods too so that the eyes are the right size and the mount is for the baitcasting reel. All that said, once you spend a day throwing 4 ounce and heavier lures on a spinning reel and your "line finger" is rubbed raw, you will realize that a baitcaster is more comfortable to throw for heavy baits - like with musky fishing where the baits can get up to 8 ounces or even 1 pound or more! The casting reel's then definitely offer a reduced level of "line finger" pain from the spinning reel and with the 80 pound test braid, backlashed are also less common and typically more easily to "clear". Believe it or not, I do love the Curado DC - but want to tamper expectations to reality, not hype.

Okay, so I bought this reel through Dicks online. Got it a couple of days later the box had a display sticker on it and it wasn’t sealed, as in someone cut it open. I called Dicks and they said it’s perfectly fine and that I have a 90 day warranty. I tried to exchange it but they don’t have any left in stock lol. Should I just return it or roll with it? I saved up for it for a minute so I really don’t want to return it but I’m scared it might be defective.

Like all bait cast reels, as long as you don’t intentionally backlash it will never back lash. Set it and tune it to your bait, you will never back lash.

It’s not just on setting 4 lol you can put it on any setting just mess with the tension knob to where the bait dosesnt move, then u can cast and it will not back lash even if u hit the water like u did I got one an tried it.. the reel really is awesome. Also I’ve thrown the 9 inch bullshad on the curado dc so 🤷🏼‍♂️
