*Awesome reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend especially for the price! No problems so far. Reeled in a 14lb laker yesterday and performed great. (5-10 min reel in time) Love the drag adjustment.*
This reel has never backlashed on me when dialed in right or throwing in any condition. Except when my girlfriend accidentally hooks me when the dc.
@Alessandro David you're weird
I have an ultra max a max pro and a dc, in my opinion the curado backlashes a lot more than the other 2
Thanks, Matt. As a matter of fact I was a Bass Pro Shop last Friday looking at high speed reels. The guy showed me the Curado DC and spoke really highly of it (he owned one). Nice to get another opinion.
I recently purchased a Curado K and a Curado DC and I love them both. The K casts really far and has both selectable drag modes as well as a spool tension knob, but it's still smooth and easy to use. The DC is amazing though, I have the 151HG version and I'm crazy about it. Mine is left hand crank because I am right handed and I crank with my left. I have been fishing for 30 years and I have used many different Abu Garcia rigs (BlackMax, SilverMax, Ambassadeur), Daiwa rigs (Procaster, spinning rigs), Shakespeare rigs (Agility, many others), Mitchell rigs (MANY), Quantum (Once again, MANY), I also have a few rigs that I put together that I absolutely LOVE like an Abu Garcia SilverMax 1000 size reel on a Berkley Cherrywood HD 7' one-piece medium rod, a Shimano Nasci 1000 size reel on another Berkley Cherrywood HD 6'6" two-piece medium rod, and a Penn Battle II on a Favorite Defender LunkersTV edition 7' medium rod, but NOTHING compares to my Curados (the DC OR the K). I have the DC on my Daiwa Procaster 7' medium one-piece rod, and I have my Curado K on my Shakespeare Agility 6'6" medium one-piece rod (yeah, yeah, I know, it's like putting American Racing wheels on a Bentley, but the Agility rod is light, easy to cast far, and I've caught big striper bass and pike on it with no problem).
Your boys laugh after that backlash had me dying!!!😂🤣
3:05 look at this ramen noodle 🍜 head.
Really i thot it was cringe af
You got my sub from this video alone lol.. your friends laugh is gold too btw!! Picking up my Curado DC 150 tomorrow. 8-5-1 looks like the lucky winner 👌🏼can’t wait. Thanks for such a good vid- Shimano SHOULD pay you.. they’ll get my business after weeks of thought and this video just sealed the deal. I’d go now if it was after 10 pm. Beauty
My first bait caster was the same reel left hand. Learned fast and I've fallen in love.
Only time I’ve found the 4th setting useful is when I’m throwing into very high winds because I could cast as hard as I could and not have to worry about backlashing which I’d have to throw pretty hard anyway into that type of wind so it was nice to not worry
The laughing in the back ground, and then saying "i gotta do it again". Proceedes to laugh hysterically! Great moment!
not that i needed a reason to want a DC, but thanks for putting out the best review of the cruado DC i since yet!
I have had the DC for a few months now and I love it! I use the 4 setting for skipping the frog and it's a game changer... Never backslashes
Ian Craig is this lure the one where at the right setting doesnt backlash?
Bought a Curado DC and put it on a Johnny Morris platinum rod and it is my favorite setup verrrry light
I'm getting a few of those reels too man!!! Just the fact that it can cast far and the sound it makes I'm sold lol
Dude always love your vids great job and thanks for the inspiration.
I’ve been fishing Shimano and Abu for years.
Over the last 3+ years, I refuse to buy any other reel besides Shimano.
There’s a reason why Shimano wins best in show every year at I-cast.
Keep up the great work Matt!!
I always enjoy your videos
Bradford Fields how would you compare Curado 151 to Revo Beast? Which is better for big lures (150g)?
@@MAN__IN__BLACK For a 5 ounce lure, go with a Shimano Tranx 300. If you're talking even heavier lures, step up to the Tranx 400. The Beast has some good reviews, I don't know it well enough. The Curado 151 is too small for such a lure - partially based on line capacity. The drag on the Curado is a bit light for a bigger fighting fish - IMO. The benefit of the Tranx over the Curado 151 size is you can use it well for bigger fish - larger pike, musky, etc. . . and know the reel has the backbone necessary.
Your buddy laughing his butt off at the end. That was good. Now I'm grinning too. I don't know that I'd have a need for a reel like that but it was a nice review.
I love your videos man just the way you put them together. Faithful from day one. Just makes me chuckle cuz you were saying all that second hand stuff but I remember that video where you are one rod were fishing and you lost that custom built rod that was like a 250-300 combo. I could care less but figured I’d laugh about it
Thanks for the review. I think you officially sold me on it. I'm going to buy hubby one for Xmas. But I want one too now 😆
That was fun thanks for the review. Im picking one up tomorrow : )
Thanks for your very objective review as always. In my opinion, YOUR channel much more realistic AND with very few exceptions, much more informative about the art and techniques of fishing for whatever species you’re targeting. About this video topic....I don’t have the money to get seriously into baitcasting. Out of all my 58 years of life I never did any serious bass fishing until my move to New Port Richey, FL in December 2017. I bought a cheap manufactured house that has a shallow brackish water canal in my backyard. I’m out there nearly every day or night fishing either with a bobber, or with some type of artificial. Side note....I wish with all my heart, you had the time to come here and fish along with me on my backyard bank. I’m not looking to be on RUclips, but you would certainly be able to record any portions of your time fishing here. I would really appreciate learning from you what I’m doing right and wrong particularly for Largemouth Bass. I’m willing to pay a fair rate for any time you might choose to spend here fishing. Please take this offer seriously, thanks...... I also wanted to mention two different models of the same brand of casting reel an average guy like me has been able to learn on in this past year. KastKing models Royale Legend and Megajaws. Each of these models come in some version of 5, 6, 7: & 8. The a blistering 9:1:1 gear ratio is available in the Megajaws model. Both have a ‘typical’ capacity spool, works incredibly well with even light braid (6-10lb). Even better with 40lb through 65lb which is the heaviest line I’ve ever tried on either of these reels. Both models use a magnetic baking system. Paired with either a KastKing or other brand of casting rod between 6’10” and 7’3”, these rods and reels feel wonderful and are so light compared to some of older spinning gear. I’m going to get their newest reel to test which uses a centrifugal braking system. It’s called the Bassinator Elite. I’m interested in learning which braking system will work best for a noob like me. LOL. Please feel free to contact me here or just leave me a comment where I could contact you if you’d like to discuss fishing/teaching me at my body of water. You’ve been literally everywhere, but I wonder if you’ve ever encountered the same fishing conditions I have here. By this, I mean the insanely wide variety of both freshwater and saltwater fish, turtles, alligators, and even birds that fish such as Osprey who dive bomb for fish, or the Anhinga which actually swims underwater to spear any fish it can get with its very pointy, sharp beak. All these things are going on in the water here and although I have very detailed records of my time fishing...I STILL haven’t figured out why all the typical things every legitimate fishing channel talks about rarely work in the water here? If you truly like a challenge, this is one heck of a challenging place to fish. If it matters to you, my PB Bass was caught a couple months ago and weighed 6.77lbs! For me this was a monster, and how many ??? Size bass I’ve hooked and got off, I can only imagine. No one seriously fishes this water except myself. At least I know whenever I try something new, it’s the first time these fish have ever seen it! LOL
I backlash more on my DC than any of my diawa tws. But I do love the dc. It's a great reel. Just gotta adjust it quite a bit. Especially with long casts
i was just debating on getting this reel yesterday and now you put this vid out lol, the sound it just to perfect
DOOOOO IT
Have one. Love it. The 1-2-3 on the dial corresponds to line type. Not tension. Braid, mono, floro. 4 is for casting into wind. At least that’s what I remember from reading manual. Who needs that though. 🤔
I still have and use the very first 1991 gen1 curado on my deck every trip on the water - one heck of a reel!!!!!!
I have and still use my OG curado. I still think it's a great reel.
Love your videos!
Going to get mine today, but just curious, what rod do you like for it? I mainly do soft plastics, top water and spinner bait fishing.
Just bought one Sunday. Can't wait to get out on the water.
Banger as always! DC for LIFE!
Got that reel last year and could not be more satisfied. I picked up the slx dc about a month ago and it works just as well. the gearing is not as smooth on the slx as it is on the curado. Nice job on the video's thanks!!
For sure. My friend Billy has an SLX and he has said the same. It’s still a sick reel no doubt, but when compared to the Curado DC, it just doesn’t feel as nice. STILL a great reel though.
It also possibly backlashes because of your spool tension knob. If it’s set too tight or loose. It will effect how the DC brakes work.
Nice work Matt! I'm a small time sponsored LEW'S guy and I cast that reel a couple times with different clients because they owned one and wanted me to try it. It is a very nice reel and cast far. I was waiting for you to test hitting the water. I notice from watching clients fish with it, if you hit the water with the lure it would backlash, and if you cast it really hard it could backlash, but I don't know what they had it set on. Either way it is a very nice reel. Let me know how it holds up to power techniques like frogging and flipping. I can usually break them all after a couple years doing that LOL! I use to be a Shimano guy with a lot of Chronarchs and Curados. I starting buying more LEW'S in 2012 because I felt the LEW'S Tournament Pro were better casting in the wind than a Shimano in the same price point. The Curado DC is definitely a good reel for people learning to use a baitcaster. Tight Lines with the ROBOT reel!
Ive got the abu garcia zata and its the same thing tuned in right if i give it the average cast no backlash no thumb but if i mess up my cast or try to yeet it 200 yards out im definatly backlashing
Justin Royal introduced to the Shimano reels. I now one SLX and 3 Curados 2 are the K version and one is the MGL and I am in love the Curados.
Although the reels cost an arm and a leg the DCs really got me into baitcasting ..I can now throw some of the cheapest reels on the market with no problem. The DCs really eased me into it and there’s no looking back now! :)
Cool video. I just picked up both...the Curado dc and the slx dc and searching for comparison videos and saw this one. Would like to see you compare it to the slx.
I definitely subbed and hope you get the SLX dc to review..would be interesting to see an unbiased review ( but if shimano decided to sponsor you that would be cool also)
My friend just got the SLX and it's absolute fire! How do you like Lew's? I have a lew's light reel I bought used and I'm real happy with it.
Im looking at the curado dc but im not sure what gear ratio to use. Ill be fishing in a kayak with a 7' dobyns fury. Probably mostly junk bait. They have 8.5:1 ratio curado dc and 7.4:1 ratio curado mgl 150 in stock at my local tackle shop. What ratio do you prefer?
Great video! Make sure it is on 4 before you test the 4 setting.....just saying:P I have a Shimano baitrunner spinning reel. It is about 12 years old+ I love it! I also have several shimano spinning reels from 20+ years ago. They still work great. I may have to try one out:)
Great Video Man! I’m definitely going to have to buy a Curado! What rod are you using?
Hey Matt what’ type of rod do you ? Like the brand and action on it? Thanks
I have the curado dc and metanium mgl. The curado isnt as smooth and wont cast as far as the metanium but it's almost 200 less and its nice to be able to change to any lure size and just toss it.
i was debating grabbing one of these .. i may have to now!
What rod do you have paired with it?
Good morning, great video. I just got this reel for my bday. And I was curious, is it better to have a stiffer rod with a bait caster or one with a lot of action. I've never owned a bait-caster before.
I JUST had a similar conversation about this reel, compared to the SLX DC, with a guy on IG. Great vid and feedback man
I may have to do a Curado dc vs SLX
SBFISHINGTV oh all day man! I said what you touched on. The DC has the bigger spool, been around longer than the SLX DC, and is kinda THE standard when it comes to the DC reels.
Nice rod too. What kind is it? What is the difference between say the 7.4:1 and the 8.5:1 gear ratio? I know it is like 31" vs 36" but does it make a big difference?
Getting my first baitcaster and was trying to decide between the Shimano SLX DC or the Daiwa Tatula SV TWS? Or is there another real you would recommend? Thanks for the help
The siding number 4 is actually awesome when skipping light baits like a fluke. It will turn anyone even someone who's never skip a bait into professional skipper. Try it out next time you're on the water. The settings are actually for certain lines fluorocarbon being setting three braids is setting 2 four is for beginners are very light baits or I recommend skipping. Also the line tension knob is very important on those reels you're not supposed to have it as Loose as you would on normal reels because it actually makes the DC breaking work more and you'll get less distance casting them if you have it tighten down a little. I own a couple of the Corrado DC's and an SLX DC as well awesome reels
I’ll try it out for sure! Thanks dude
@@SBFishing what kind of rod do you have?
Matty! Agreed 70DCs need to happen!!!
Dec 3 just got my first DC150 151 Hg. I'll try it out tomorrow.
They do throw alittle different and I’ve had 3 back lashes on mine and every single one I’ve yet to get out without messing up all my line but they are really nice so can’t complain to much
good review Matt shimano makes awesome reels!
Nice looking reel. Good review!
I assume you leave the brake at factory setting as these reels are not made to change brake settings. Only time you adjust brake is if the spool is shifting left or right and has gotten off the factory setting. Having said that, what settings beween 1 and 4 on the left side of the reel do you use for both pitching and flipping?
Would love to hear what you were going to say on the Lew’s reels before you got interrupted by that fish catch.
i primarily fish with the lews mach crush baitcaster combo and i love it..can't compare it to any of the shimano reels as i don't own any...i paid under 200 bucks for the combo and it's my favorite and it didn't break the bank
Hello, what kind of popper do you use in the video to capture the bass?
How ot goes with the water and salt if you droped in? That chip wil be ok?
Micro computer chips on fishing reels,(wow!)l have a 28 year old Curado spooled with 20 lb. Braid.I fish the lower Laguna Madre for bull Reds and anything else that might be caught on hard baits and soft plastics,Awesome reviews, Shimano👍
That’s awesome man I fish on the Potomac up by Shepherdstown WV
Does the little Chip got Problems with water? So like getting wet of Rain or when you drop it in the water?
Hey what baitcasting rod are you using? Thank you.
Awesome reel man. Only reel's I fish with!
Gameplays Finest WoRdZ aRE HaRd

I have one and I can’t put it down. You get what you pay for. Don’t let people tell you something is too expensive or even too cheap! It’s your money! I love them. They are amazing reels. If you can AFFORD it but one!!!!!
I have the slx dc and love it. Thinking this may be my next reel. My hope is I find a good black Friday deal.
For all practical purposes, it's the same reel you already have. It's is every so slightly smoother on retrieve, but only if you compare one to the other side by side. The SLX DC is a much better buy! IMO
@@chriskoffend5253 Couldn't Agree More!!! Not worth paying the $50-$70 more for the Curado w/ such little difference...
That’s the only part about getting a new reel that I despise! Is the fact that you get a new one and all you wanna do is fish THAT reel and nothing else lol awesome vid bro
Lol definitely bought my first baitcaster this summer and fished it ALL summer didnt touch my spinner once🤣
Sean Woodward Same man 😂 bait casters are something else, it’s just something about it that’s so fun to use
Do a "how to" tidal river fishery video I fish allot of tidal rivers for largemouth would like to see you do video on it
Exactly how I feel about my SLX DC. SLX is a little cheaper and no issues after a few months now.
What were you going to say about Lews? I’m confused about those reels.
Love mine got one of the first ones that were avable grate reel for skipping docks. The 70 is my new favorite awesome size.
Extremely interested in that boat. I’ve been looking at older Alumacrafts and Bass Trackers and I’m just not impressed with any of them. I can’t really tell if there is much if any storage built into the boat. Is there built in live wells or are you using a cooler. Is there someway I can get ahold of you and ask you many more questions instead of asking on here? Thanks,
David
hi ...can u tell me what rods are u used here in this video plz...thanks regards
Apologies if I missed it but what rod is the reel on. It looks sick too. Like a 6th Sense Sensory ?
Did you really nest up at 3 or was it at 4... Was thinking of getting one...
What dose the dc stand for? And also what dose the different gear ratio do
At 5:13 it’s happened to me so many times on the new slx reel. It’s so annoying but I can’t complain with how smooth it is.
You need to get the Shimano SLX DC and you need to get the Shimano scorpion for sure is the sickest thing I've ever owned
Planning to order myself 1 for Christmas
I love mine. I’ll be buying a couple more
Hi bro your bait caster reels mono laing and braided laing using?
Hey y’all know the video is a few months old and I’m a little late was just wondering if anyone knows what pole he is using with the reel?
So what is the rod your using?
Hey man. Saw you on the highway today..
Yeah from what I have seen about DC reel they look badass, I like to see how the scorpion actually handles..
I’ve been torn between the Curado and the Scorpion, you may have just sold me!...Matt laughing at the end when you told him it was only on 3 😂😂😂
I prefer the deeper spool, and super high speed gear ratio. I need to try the scorpion though. A TON of people recommending it here in the comments.
I have the scorpion it's better than the curado
Psst, Daiwa Tatula SV is better, and is way more comfortable to hold lol
Scorpion has very limited line capacity, not that the Curado has much either. The Scorion gives you a little more set-up flexibility/specificity over the Curado. The plus with the Scorpion is that it's a later model reel with the IDC5. When will the Curado (or SLX) be released with the IDC5? 2021? 2022? Who knows. . .
Can anyone let me know which fishing rod he use with the dc bait caster, thank you
It is a Favorite Emperor.
what rod is he using?? and if i get this reel what rod is best for it? (under $100)
Okay, so I bought this reel through Dicks online. Got it a couple of days later the box had a display sticker on it and it wasn’t sealed, as in someone cut it open. I called Dicks and they said it’s perfectly fine and that I have a 90 day warranty. I tried to exchange it but they don’t have any left in stock lol. Should I just return it or roll with it? I saved up for it for a minute so I really don’t want to return it but I’m scared it might be defective.
What is your favorite jig rod
Does seem to be one sick reel. -- You know what? --- It was on 3.......... LOL
If you that reel you will luv the scorpion dc 2017 I know I do for sure anything beating it is the matanium DC..
Dude the line in the foot happened to me except it was reel nasty. Other than that I have fallen in love with the DC and have had no other issues then that one time. The DC is simply amazing!
I’m a Lews man right now I’d have to say but I’d love to get a Curado DC & Metanium DC
What's the brand of that awesome Rod that you have the Curado on?
Looks familiar. I had a crab cake sandwich at the Virginia Grill when I was there for work. Is that close?
What kind of rod did u pair this up with?
Belmont Bay, under the Route 1 bridge drifting down to 123?
The DC's are cool. I like my Daiwa SV TWS reels more though. Lots of nice stuff available these days.
Word, my Steez reels eat up the DCs, and I have quite a few Shimano reels. Daiwa is the best, hands down
@@lexm0 guessing you haven't tried the jdm ones with the idc5 braking system. Blows everything out of the water, Imo they screwed us american giving us the old idc4 breaking system
How much better is this reel compared to their SLX DC?
I'm curious.. @ 13:15 what were you going to say about LEWS? You caught the fish and didn't finish the comment. Curious on your opinion. Thanks
Hey man, what gear ratio do you recommend for a general/one-does-everything Curado reel? Thanks!
7.4.1 will be the best for all applications
What were you going to say about Lew's that u noticed?
I had the same issue with my slx getting caught in the button
