Lol. Funny you say that. Last summer; my son, 12 at the time, had a miserable bit of a time catching anything. But he always said he loved just casting. He was switching reel/rods just to change things up for the fun of it. I ended up buying him a JDM Scorpion Antares. He loves that reel. He makes me a happy dad.
Oops! looks like there was an editing snafu! my bad lol basically what was cut out was that I think the Antares has even better bearings than the already good bearings of the Metanium, but the Antares is really bulky to cast compared to the others.
@@rapalaman6681 I'm good with the weight. I actually like the solid feel of it. I paired it with a super light rod (NRX). No problem with 4 to 6 hr sessions
Sorry brother but at least from the video it sure looked and sounded like you were ripped the met super hard but were letting off on the anteres. Especially that 5th cast was clearly less energy.. You are 100% correct on adjusting spool play. They come way too loose and it given wild differences in cast length. You really should be using a 1oz at least a 3/4 for max cast distance. I know not one that gets max distance vs other dc with the met. The essences kills it as do the round reels and the dc7 anteres calais models. Those two being the distance Champs in dc 4x8 systems. Nice test and putting the time in.
At 3:31 what adjustments did you do tk the Antares DC? I too have an Antares DC but just like you, I was not that impressed with the casting distance. What did you do to get it to cast further?
Graysson Carl because my target audience is in the United States. You need a much more precise measurement like metric system grams to show the difference in spool weights.
I had plans on getting my hands on one without having to have someone send me one but I didnt get the time off work like I thought I would. Hopefully soon
I enjoyed your tests… both on the 4 reels… I would like to know the name brand, length and stiffness of the rod set up if you will. I am curious: why you used the x setting instead of the braid setting as used on the Curado, Scorpion and Medtainium? As for the Antares, there is a newer model… no I’m not suggesting you purchase for a newer test. I know how pricey they are… I, personally, have no desire to spend that much for a reel… these damn Bass cost enough as it stands now… Me, I’m all in for the Scorpion because of the finer tune available at a reasonable cost regardless of the out of country warranty for said item. I’m one of those anglers that never buys just one of anything… 2+ is my motto. Great collection and info… Thank you for you time and effort… Rick in Kentucky…
@@knifeaddict1014 … never owned one… I ended up buying 3 Scorpion DC… from Japan sellers… I like them as to usage, but the thumb lever tend to rub on the side of my thumb uncomfortably unlike other models of Shimano’s. Just my thoughts. I didn’t see the value then and now for those reels. My favorites are the Calcutta Conquest… All purchased used. Bantams are the best for the price. I upgrade to Carado by upgrading with a couple of ball bearing replacing the plastic none bearings. “Eat more fish”… 👍😎
Trust me, you will need that Shimano warranty for such an expensive reel. A friend of mine bought one from Hong Kong, the DC chip broke down and he had to send the reel all the way back to Japan via the shop to get it fixed. It took months!!
yep thats a chance you take with any imported item. but ive never heard of a DC unit failing though. And the new ones are pretty water proof too. I saw a video where this kid dropped his scorpion dc side plate into the water, got it, put it back on, and started fishing with no issues.
I have no idea. My friend bought 2 DC reels round about the same time back then, one was the old Exsence DC and the other the Metanium DC. The Exsence DC was fine, but the Metanium DC broke down after a few trips and he never dropped the reel into the water plus he really looks after his gear. That is why I don't mind trying the Curado DC, one I have never been huge on DC and two if anything goes wrong this is the cheapest DC reel out there. But, if I were to buy a super expensive DC reel such as the Antares MD DC, I would definitely buy it locally to make sure I get the warranty.
Nice video..the anteras dc is the king..it can cast light to heavy lures effortlessly and like he said consistently ...hence the long distance (free spool) mode..when u gona do the test on the old exsence dc?
It seems like you focus on Shimano and sometimes the diawas a lot and ik there awesome reels. But I own a Curado K and a 13 fishing inception and it terms of casting I don’t really notice a huge difference. But in drag the 13 fishing reel kills the k. You should try picking one up. I would love to see a video on it. It just might surprise you!
I contacted 13 Fishing (as well as every other company) over a year ago to see if they would send me some reels to test, then I would send them back. They thought I was asking for sponsorship(as if I would take a sponsorship from them? lol) and said I was too small of a channel. But they had no problem sending their internet troll squad to my channel to attack me when I got my Concept Z (paid for with my own cash) and put it up against the Curado K(it lost). Seeing how they operate as a business, it put a bad taste in my mouth, they arent getting a red cent from me ever. As for the inception, i handled one in the store and it felt like crap. The paint job is crap, rough and unsmooth. Id rather get another Casitas. As for 13 fishing and their drag ratings. They are just like any other cookie cutter reel out of Korea(which all are posting up similiar drag ratings) If you like them great. But the 2 reels I have from them are mediocre at best compared to all the other reels I have.
When I bought Antares DC I expected that reel cast at least 30ft further vs other reels. Unfortunately it is impossible. The lowest setting on X mode setting I had was 5 (throwing Evergreen Showerblows 130).
I can tell theres alot more in the Antares vs the other. I dont think that lipless crank was heavy enough to test the limits of the X mode. But yeah when I first got it I had some somewhat unrealistic expectation of the Antares
@@THEREELTEST Not unrealistic if it costs 700 dollars before shipping, id expect it to make my bed, make me breakfast and get me a wife for that price.
Thanks that is some good information. However out on the water the longest cast is not the best option in a real. The further away you cast the less hook setting power. Key thing to me is accurate casting with minimum effort and speed plus power. Sweet reels and Shimano has always been one of my favorite.
Nice story, but for us bank beaters distance is key to covering the most amount of water. I cant count the times Ive caught a fish after a long cast with a jerkbait as soon as the lure hit the water. Fish often hook themselves
Just got Antares DC MD delivered. Gonna test it as soon as I can .
I swear that you only get the high end reels for the fun of casting them not fishing lol.
GrandFishing honestly, it looks so fun i want one .. just doubles the fun while fishing
@@doughjholifestyle I fish the metanium dc and i can say it does increase fun! Regardless of what people say.

Both of those reels are worth everything I hav when it comes to fishing
I like the Metainum size so much better than the Antares
Finally you nailed that reel
16 Antares dc vs 17 Exsence dc-???
My favorite is Metanuim DC. I have used Curado DC and Chronarch MGL before. 😎
Your Metanium does everything g better than the curado or?

apparently the metanium MGL (not the DC one) is best buy. I own the scorpion decepticon DC though. Ty so much The Reel Test for all the precious info.
Yeah, it does cast better but honestly, the dc sound.... 100/10
Still rocking my Calais DC. Recently got a Curado DC for saltwater.
still have my Calais DC too! will never give it up either
Me too! If you can get over the weight issue it is fantastic and has the 4 x 8 like the reviewed Antares.

@@Nahhmah yeah, perfectly balanced out
can u make it short for me? who cast furthest? and vs metanium dc 71..tqsm
To use it in the X position, you must close the fine adjustment.
You should try the Antares dc monster drive. I love mine. Can cast on extreme casting mode with the external setting on minimum all day!
Thats awesome, but If I spend that much on another DC reel its going to be the Exsence
Andrew Wang thanks man! I’m gonna have to get around to fishing it
Swimbaitinginthedeepsouth how is that reel only for throwing big baits ?
What about the spool weights for all of the DC reels? Would love to see that list, always appreciate you information.
Ive weighed all the spools except for the Antares because Im not taking it apart just for that. Curado 20 grams, scorp and met around 17 grams
Ready for that video
Can you do the Shimano Citica
Distance test to determine who is best reel?... It need more criteria.

i agree , on the Antares 4th and 5th casts you could tell he really backed off on the oomph and i knew the distance was short before he walked it off

You need to do a review on the 2018 Antares DC. Has 13lb of drag and Salt water ready!

Just times 30
Example: 100ft × 30cm = 3000cm
Then remove 2 digit zero so it is 30 Meter
In your opinion what is the best reel shimano has👍
You should do the steez sv tws reel with one of these. That would be interesting.

the spool tension of the Antares is so inconvenient
How about corotion resistant???
Who the best about it??
Antares or metanium.

Which one is smoother while cranking, casting? Your personal opinion. Thankyou
Antares is 1 level above the Metanium in smoothness
Super lucky, I won the metanium DC on eBay for $200.
Now there’s 2018 Antares DC MD XG
It will do worse is overall performance compared to the regular Antares DC and Metanium DC. The Monster drive Antares is made for heavy baits
Have you weighed the Red Eye Shad without the hooks?
yes, its in the original standardized testing video i posted a few months back
I'm always curious why you measure the distance to the bait and back?
because thats the best way
Where did you get those holders that the baitcasters are on ??
You can find them from some of the Japanese sites or Amazon and Ali Express.
The differens would be greater on lighter lures I think.
Ever thought about using a line counter instead?
I was thinking the same thing. Just get a marker
Which of the dc reels do you prefer for the cosmetics
either scorpion or metanium

What type of line and line size did you use in this reel head to head up? And if you had use braid will it make any difference?
watch my standardized test video for all that information
How heavy baits can Curado DC handle in Grams?
probably easily up to 28 grams. The line capacity is noticeably lower than the Curado 200k
I would like to fish with 30-50g.
How long does the shimano metanium dc hold up before the gears start to wear out and stuff?
