Getting the reel wet isn’t that bad man! If it’s made to fish in salt water it’s recommended to wash it off with fresh water after each use. I bought a $130 lews reel and it got yanked in by what I assumed to be a big catfish. My friend caught it a month later and it still works a year later. It obviously isn’t the best thing for it but it didn’t destroy it either.
No way he was bringing a bottom bait back in and snagged the line or the rod xD??
@@Tagerrun he caught the rod with a crank bait. I wasn’t there but they called me and told me they had caught it.

I got to recommend getting a hiking stick for wade fishing. It helps prevent so many falls and is great for keeping you balance when going though currents

Mike, you are an absolute legend! I learn so much about fishing when I watch your content. You should definitely invest in the life jacket for those type of situations, they have some comfortable low profile models, you’ll barely tell they are on you for six hours.

Those brass weights are carolina rig weights, ive use them mostly for my homemade tokyo rigs, makes a really nice knocking sound off rocks and wood

I won't lie about the 1 dollar spinnerbait. It is my favorite bait to throw and I catch everything on it and definitely some monsters.
I fish the Potomac river in west Virginia alot. The current is very deceiving. Definitely can be dangerous. Glad your okay bro. Great video as usual ❤
Mike I just bought a 500 size reel, a 4000 size reel, and a 64" telescoping rod from Temu. I instantly had to forfeit the 4000 size reel because it's a monochrome color and my wife loved it, but I can't wait to catch some big sunfish on the telescoping rod and 500 size reel.

4:40 I believe those are brass weights. You could pair them with some glass beads for a good clicking sound too.
I got the green and yellow reel for $1.83 lol. It’s an OK reel. A lot more prone to backlash than a more expensive reel but just keep ur thumb on it a bit more and it works perfectly fine

Mike, get a manual inflation PFD, maybe even the ones that are a small fanny pack and wear it. In that situation you could have pulled the cord and floated to shallow water.

If a beginner is not entirely sure how to choose a baitcaster rod, how do you know which one is without asking a professional, say like at Walmart or something? I've never fished with a bait caster, only spin casting. I'm right-handed but I crank with my left hand. Not sure if that means anything specifically or not. Just what I'm used to. What I'm wondering though about the rod is, it seems to be a long handle and the reel is up higher on the rod then with a spin caster. I'm just trying to figure out something that I can get that is basic to learn, but I don't want to break the bank. None of my other rods and reels were really expensive, more like Walmart specials. Could you give me a basic inexpensive but one that is effective?
