When I decided a few years ago that I wanted to take my playing to the next level (after 15 years of pentatonic box and down picking,) I found Paul Gilbert's "Intense Rock" instructional video and it revolutionized my playing. I later found Rick Graham's channel and learned the economy of picking. Rick has recommended you and I see that he's as wise as ever. Good luck with your channel!
PLEASE release that album! It sounds great. And the prospect of you and Rick playing some live shows sounds absolutely brilliant. Can’t wait to see that!!!
Love all this content so far, and this was my fav as I love PG and think he was at his peak then. I know you mention you “‘warble on” but I think you come across as pretty succinct, and love the fact you do this on the fly without a myriad edits - that’s an sign of a truly great player. Keep up the good work 🤟🤟
Nice job, dude. I love Richie Sambora and Paul Gilbert since i started playing guitar. And some of the licks i can play, too. BUT... you nailed every lick, man. Respect!!! Unbelievable.
Hey Ben .. we're all LOVIN that your back at it again mate !! .. just can't get enough of your aggressive right hand brother !! from all us Aussies at Better Music, Down Under .. keep it up bro, Simo.
Just found you mate & subbed straight away, fantastic playing Ben, love it, Mr. Gilbert is the dogs b*llocks! I had the privilege of seeing Paul & the boys on the Bump Ahead tour 93, Wolverhampton Civic, it's still in my top 5 best gigs ever, it was amazing watching him shred with so much ease, aggressive & melodic, he is truly one of the best rock/metal guitarist from the last 50 years, I still have the tour t shirt from that gig. Great channel brother, off to watch more of your vids. Cheers
The opening section of his solo on the Mr. Big tour that you referenced at 08:53 was the be-all-end-all guitar riffage for me. The way I'm creating a fantasy band with you and @ElEsteparioSiberiano. Ooof.
I can totally hear your influences in your playing, the percussive picking and accenting gives it away (I too was influenced by the same dudes, we may be of similar vintage....) Super fun fact. When I was a wee lad (that's British right?) my dad bought me a Paul Gilbert signature guitar (the white one with the painted f-holes) at the West Hollywood guitar center that was signed by PG on the electronics plate. The sales guy told us I should remove the plate to find a surprise inside, upon which read "you win $10,000!" on the back side. When we went to redeem the reward we were informed that it was just a joke. The butt hurt was insane. I literally got trolled by Paul Gilbert in meat space in the 90's!
Awesome playing!! Personally I’m in a similar position that you mentioned- did the Gilbert style alternate picking- I’m currently now trying to to do the Yngwie/gambale economy style- very hard to translate!! I’m interested in your teaching stuff. Still waiting to find out who your teachers were.
Frenzy off the first Racer X album, Gilbert was running late and shows up and did the opening on the first take. I think he played even faster back in the day. Love the channel by the way and amazing guitar playing!
Great job 🤘🏼🤘🏼 I didn't realize, just how many of my licks and techniques, ARE HIS!!! 😹 His first instructional video, was my bible. I guess it stuck with me.
I've been inspired again! " Lord willing, and the creek doesn't rise." Just an old hillbilly saying for...The Lord is willing, and by His grace, I'm going to get straight to this project at hand. So I, too, can become a better musician and guitar player. Hopefully!
You are damn good at guitar ☝️😁 Paul Gilbert is great, but too fast for my system. Another band (Underground) that took my guitar brain was/is psychotic waltz.....try listen to their second album (story)...."into the everflow" ☝️🤪 A lot of brilliant guitar stuff, very hard with lot of technic (floyd-rose). I still miss out some parts i cannot figure out after 25 years, but if you dare share and learn with me (i got tabs written if you want) ☝️😁

These are the same licks I was obsessed about, but I never got to be as proficient as you. Haha You' re ridiculously ferocious. Wow! 🔥🔥🔥
You pick as Paul, you are the best, my hero
Wow! Loving these vids....your playing is insane..... Bring on that album ASAP
Old school Paul Gilbert is my favorite shred guitarist of all time. His playing was not only fast with excellent phrasing, but INCREDIBLY clean.

Great as always! Paul is an absolute unit, I'd recommend his album fuzz universe which is highly underrated !

Paul is an absolute monster! His playing is a little more laid back these days, but when he was in his prime? Damn!
Listen to the new Mr Big live album. He hasn't lost a thing
Sick playing Ben!!!🤘🏻😎

You have to know Jerry Stevenson from B# sharp, how about him? Thanx for posting! ♨️
Thats your band name right there. Ascend⚡️Descend.
Your speed game are insane. Show slow notes for us too. I like Loner or For the love of God. Simple but good notes.

@@bentraversmusic Thank fuck! THAT'S how I initially discovered you YEARS ago. And welcome back, you BEAST!
I'll bet he got that pentatonic sequence with the flat fifth from listening to live Randy Rhoads. I know I did.
You should check out Anton Oparin. Best Alt picker on the planet!
holy hell... I'm quitting playing guitar
You're the picking equivalent of 'there is no overkill, there is simply open fire and reload'
sped-up

Dude….
Paul GIlbert is also Buckethead though he may deny it. That is what makes him such a cheeseball and a con man. I don't trust any riff from him at all.
