Also one of my favorite Paul Gilbert licks. I spent many hours woodshedding this lick to try to play the How Can You Do What You Do solo and that turnaround always got me.
Just learned this the other week after watching Paul's solo for the first time and being absolutely blown away! Love the pentatonic run right before it as well. And your definitely right the turn around at the end is definitely what took me the longest to get down.
Love the new space! As a fellow millennial, you talking about watching videos on limewire brought back memories. I used to download DDR videos and watch them on my iPod video at work.
I love this arpeggio sequence. As soon as I saw the title I knew what it was. I like to incorporate hybrid picking to grab some of the higher notes so I don’t have to jump the pick around so much.
Reminds of trying to learn the arpeggio section in Norwegian Cowbell from Paul Gilbert. Playing it is challenging enough, playing it at tempo cleanly is brutal. He makes it sound so effortless too.
I've been enjoying these recents videos. The Zenith Passage riff and now this. I probably won't be able to play them up to speed and cleanly for a while. When I first started learning guitar, working on my pinky strength was one of the first things I did. I was taught the riff from the song Woo Hoo by the 5678's that uses open strings so it can be played with just 2 fingers. A sane person would play it just using their ring finger and middle finger. I decided to learn to play it with just my pinky and ring finger to build pinky strength and coordination.
Can't get enough Paul licks! This reminded me of one my favourite Gilbert tracks from Racer X Technical Difficulties that has a legendary playthrough video from the early youtube days, gonna dust off the tab of that and see if I have the chops for that song still :P
Man, that is a trip down memory lane of watching the things on old grainy VHS Hot Licks or Racer X footage. I know the exact solo your talking about, I think he does a lesson on it in the Intense Rock 2 video
Well this was SUPER HELPFUL!!!!! just a thought, at least for me, give us a playthrough of the full riff before you start teaching. I need to be able to hear in my head what im learning
It feels easier to me if instead of playing the 13th fret on the G string you play it on the 9th fret of the B string so that you follow an E minor shape and you sweep it. However, the big question is: does the lick sound or transmit better the way he played it with hammer ons and pull offs or swept?
Amazing, but this is the demonstration that even if your band is technically incredible, is just a reminder of how Gilbert is an increible guitarist, every style is different and your technique is so different for this type of style👌🏻 By the way you need more sound dynamic in your tone that really make the nuances of Paul Gilbert👌🏻…
"Like" this comment if you think I should grow my hair out and wear tight pants and no shirt just like Paul did! (please don't like this comment)
Hair
Grow out your facial hair and then tape it to your head
tight pants
Tighten your hair and get some grown up pants? 😁
Only if they are assless chaps
As someone who has also been watching that video since I was 14, I knew immediately which arpeggio you were talking about. It’s so sick.
Ah Limewire, i was there Gandalf, 3000 years ago.
@@sluggardrangersol8502 I was there the day the strength of men failed.
"I'M READY"
"I WASN'T READY"
your comedic timing is on point.
I've been loving the recent content Dean! Keep it up!

Thanks for making these kinds of videos for us and congrats on the new studio.
That intro was one of the intros of all time
Yes. It was one of them. 💯

I really like these work out videos your uploading. They sound very musical and are a lot more fun than some shapes and scales that are in books.
Haven't watched a video in a minute, the studio looks killer.
Went to go watch the solo and then came back. Paul is a master of guitar!
Oh man, I remember learning this when I was a teenager and thinking it was the best lick I'd ever heard! Legendary stuff.
I'm glad to see that guitar again that one and the gold sparkle one looks so good
Loving these tab vids!
I love Paul's playing. He loves these arpeggio shapes. They're all over Scarified as well.
I love this arpeggio sequence. As soon as I saw the title I knew what it was. I like to incorporate hybrid picking to grab some of the higher notes so I don’t have to jump the pick around so much.
Always loved the similar lick in the solo section of Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar.

The top & paint on that Kiesel is very classy.

Hey, I'm not a super great guitarist or anything but this stuff is still really doable and very cool! Thanks old guy! 👍
"Oh, thanks for noticing!"

Great, now I have to go watch Paul's guitar solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" when he was with Portnoy's Beatles tribute band.
That guitar still looks sweet af

00:10
I just finished bleaching my brown eye! Thank you for noticing!
LOL The Human Condition. I had no idea all these years
I was cooked around halfway though 100bpm 😂. Barely could hang on at 120
"There's a lot of pinky work here" yeah, it's Paul Gilbert - the man with an index finger for a pinky.
Ok but this is sooo easy compared to the leads you write ✍️
Funny seeing you struggle ❤❤
Pls come to MTL and Vegas
I did change my hair! Glad you noticed :D
original tempo is around 145 in 1991

Wtf. Is it true that spencer is leaving?
I literally just got a new mustache 😂
I did get a hair cut and grow a mustache! Thanks for noticing :)
