I wish that, instead of a movie, they had made a mini series on his exploits. I wish this, because he didn’t just save his fellow soldiers at Hacksaw Ridge, but he also saved others during the battles of Guam, Leyte and Okinawa aka Hacksaw Ridge. If we had gotten, 6 or 7, 60 + min. episodes, with Hacksaw Ridge as the climax. Making us fear that he was gonna die after all that courage under fire, in my opinion, it would be more epic. But that’s me.

So, to appease his fellow soldiers and his officials, Desmond Doss was credited with saving 75 people in the battle of Okinawa and awarded with the highly prestigious medal of honour for those 12 hours he was up there on Hacksaw Ridge, unarmed and injured, saving lives
What! 12 hours? I thought he was there for almost 2 days. That's even crazier. This man on a vegetarian diet who refuses to hold and shoot a gun does all that.

And 3) Desmond did all that he did whilst being shot at and hunted down by any Japanese soldiers that spotted him whilst he was saving and rescuing the lives of not only his fellow soldiers, but some Japanese soldiers as well. He did all that, on his own and injured, without having ever used/picked up a 🔫 or taken another person’s life.

They actually had to tone down the stuff that actually happened, or people would think it was fake. He did get shot in the helmet, that's true. He also was one of 3 soldiers to help climb hacksaw, and put up the damn ropes to the top. That's why they kept showing him climbing with his brother, and then his fiancée, he was amazing at climbing anything. I believe another jap had him dead to rights, but his weapon misfired, if I'm not mistaken. This movie made me think much more highly of the man upstairs. He also gave up his stretcher after being shot by a sniper, and he ended up crawling 300 yards to safety. Gibson thought this would make everything seem over exaggerated. This man was truly covered by some higher spirit. After the war he did struggle with his injuries, as he had several. They only show one or two in the movie.
I believe he used both. You cannot lower someone with the double bowline/bowline on a bite without securing the upper body to the rope as well. You could, however, lower someone with a bowline, but I wouldn't use just one to lower someone who is injured if they couldn't hold onto the rope.
They actually left extra things out of the movie about Doss because they were so unbelievable that it would make it unrealistic. Think about that.. and I thought what he did on screen was heroic and brave
I tie my fishing hook not in such a way that you can remove the hook with the jig still on it and replace it with a different hook and jig and not need to cut the line. I used to catfish with this oldhead that always gave me shit about it. Then one day I caught a 64lb catfish on it and after that he said "Damn Son guess I got learned didn't I" and I just laughed and said never to old to learn something new. I miss that dude.

Like all authors though youll find some stories pretty bland but dont let that put you off reading his work. this movie is currently on netflix. on a scale between 0 and 10 0 = not even worth watching or entertaining the idea 10 = absolute MUST watch whether you like war movies or not. now i LOVED the OG Jardhead with Jake Gyllenhaal. As well as a few other movies I can not think of outside of perhaps Fury and of course Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards" cept intentionally misspelled. There was another movie where a soldier wanted to get out of being sent to a FOB in a particularly dangerous water-route of "Hearts & Mind" part of the 20-year-lost war against "terrorism" - he tried injuring his hand to get out of being deployed among other things but they told him to suck it up he's going. when he gets there, they also team up with another group at the FOB. Their entire detail and MOS is literally transfer a huge water truck to civilians that would bring giant cans/jugs that would come for gallons. It was a dangerous route that they had to not only be wary of IEDs along the ONE road they had to use, as well as snipers, ambushes, and of course ... the self-delete boomboomers. Sadly, their unit was also assigned to help train the Afghanistani people to have a Police Force for America leaves and they ALL obviously did not want nor care. but still dressed up and entertained the Americans. There also found engineers intown to fix a bombed water-source (turbine? something that would pump water from a far away location into town and so on). well... they messed up on their security search and one of the workers got his explosives snuck in with his work tools and he simply walked in during a work break where they're all breaking bread together and sharing meals with one another. it WAS a beautiful moment in the movie only to have a self-delete boomer ruin it by going inside the building in which they've spent weeks to months repairing the concrete underground noticed that during their lunch break, but only too late, that he went to their transport truck and got his "toolbag" causing utter devastation. another sad part about it was shortly before one of the teams' members said "there's a bullet out here with my name on it and idk when it'll come but i know it's coming." i think in the next scene or so he was indeed... taken out with a headshot, at least i think. Sandlocker i think it was called? It had Sand in the title. I also saw the movie of IED Sweepers that starred Hawkeye (was that called Hurtlocker?) i liked that one. and then the one with dude from the Office playing and undercover agent part of a seal team. amazing movie. all of them were. Jarhead is still truly heart breaking. In most historic movies, actions need to be exaggerated to make for good cinema. The fact that they had to tune DOWN Desmond Doss's actions because the public would say they aren't believable, that just boggles the mind.
Any time someone says "Batman should kill," I point to this movie and how not only is it an amazing story of a man's strength in pacifism, but it's based on real events.

In most historic movies, actions need to be exaggerated to make for good cinema.
The fact that they had to tune DOWN Desmond Doss's actions because the public would say they aren't believable, that just boggles the mind.
