I'm a Paramedic and a Former Fire Chief and have no idea how many lives I have been fortunate to have saved, but Desmond Doss at least knows of 75, that has got to a definition of a heroic angel!

    0:46 honestly every time he tells someone he's coming back for them it makes my heart go a little mushy. On the battlefield it really becomes every man for himself, I can't imagine how much of a relief it would be to hear those words when you think you're about to die alone and that nobody is left to help you.
    Edit: by every man for himself I meant literally every person in this video clip who thought nobody was going to be around to save them you dinguses, now stop fighting

      Nobody gets left behind in the American military. Both the army and the marines have the brother and sisterhood mentality in battle. The men and women to your left and right are like family, and if you abandon them on the battlefield when they need you the most then there’s a special place in hell for you. Real life isn’t like the video games or movies kid. My dad served in the marines as an infantryman in the Cold War. When he got out at the age of 25 he was at his parent’s house and saw on the TV his fellow marines were still over there fighting and dying for their country. He stood up and said “I’ve gotta go back out there”. He was walking to the door to leave but my grandmother stopped him and convinced him to stay.

    I and my wife had the honor of meeting Desmond Doss back in the early 1990's in CT. Such a humble man, so small in stature, and yet a giant in America's military history. The book was much better than the video but the video was a good summation of what really happened. I'd imagine that Mel Gibson likely thought: "I'll have to tone it down a bit, too much content for a short movie"

      Combat medic? Stationed where?

    • @gina-mariecarr3488
      @gina-mariecarr3488 2 года назад

      I see you're from Malaysia .. we may have been there at the same time. Are you stationed in Malaysia? With my group? the Army Pacific or elsewhere? I was just in Malaysia last year providing Tactical Combat Casualty Care Training for Malaysians in jungle environment and oversaw the training of many Malaysians. I was very impressed with the level of discipline and I'm proud to be strengthening ties between out countries... I was in the 118th royal battalion, 8th brigade. My captain was running training courses last year to train in Gerun, Kedah, Malaysia. There were only 27 of us there but it was quite the experience. Curious what you mean by "medic" ... Are you in the army ? Or military? navy?
      I hope you're not one of the people behind a keyboard pretending to have fought for your or mine or any country for that matter for attention... Bc anyone could say they're a "medic" and lie. I could be lying if I wasn't.. but to often I see people claim to be apart of the army military navy seal etc and they're lying which is disgraceful and it just seemed a bit odd that you only called yourself a medic bc anyone in the army will give their specific job title, rank or specify which type of medic they are.
      If I'm wrong forgive me but this comment is just a little suspicious and with 1k people just believing whatever people write discredits so many of us who train to give our lives if need be in the persuit of helping others. Never in my 12 years of service have I ever called myself a "medic" always a 🪖 Tactical Combat Medic in the US ARMY. I'm currently stationed in Poland and the atrocities are unspeakable. I wish I didn't have to see what I have seen .. I am not allowed to go into Ukraine but I am able to help those in shelters. Again, forgivene if I'm wrong but your comment is very vague and if you were a part of the armed forced you understand why that comment being so vague is less credible. "a medic" is not something I've ever heard any real medic call themselves b.c there are levels to it and specific titles... As you should know. We work hard for out rank and position and our titles so we never downplay them. Why would u? Are you not proud of yourself if you're infact some sort of medic?
      Guys don't hate me in the comments. If you're in the armed forces you would understand why Im asking specifics. Too often people pretend to be a part of the army navy marines etc and it's not fair to those of us dedicating our lives to and those who have given their lives for our country and every other country in NATO. Even Ukraine who isn't a part of NATO .. it's an honor to do this but it's not easy leaving your family behind, our children etc. But we do it in the name of freedom. Not bc it's something to brag about on RUclips so that comment rubbed me the wrong way having seen so many impersonate something they're not which is beyond insulting to those of us in active duty, our bets and those who have died for our country.

    This movie really wowed me. I’m not a huge fan of war movies, but this one was completely different. Andrew Garfield deserved the Oscar nomination because he brought every ounce of courage and strength to Desmond Doss. The most touching scene in this clip is when Desmond calmed the Japanese soldier and even gave him morphine. He was the kindest soul to both his men and the enemy’s men. You don’t see that every day. Again, just 🤩.

How about you do a little research and watch the credits of the movie where Doss as an old man speak on it like fr it’s disrespectful for you to say this isn’t historically accurate where they even brought the man to the movie theatre screening so he can see the masterpiece they made about him. People that don’t research stuff before they say things are just ignorant idiots.

      Jennee Reedus heroes are the ones who do what they have to do. The ones who make the tough choices. What Desmond did was very honorable because he saved so many lives, but he is no leader. True heroes know there duty, and that is to fight as a good soldier does. Desmond did not fight for his Country. He did not fight so his brothers could go home. He fought for himself and his own spiritual enlightenment. If everyone was like him we would all be defeated. So no, he is not someone to marvel at.

      God cannot accept imperfectness and we are imperfect cause we are sinners. People need salvation because god is perfect. God loves sinners (us) so much that his son Jesus Christ died in the cross for our sins so we can repent and follow him. The door is still open to this day! But there will be a time where that door will be shut. We cannot earn our salvation through good things we do. Salvation is through repenting of your sins, believing on what Jesus Christ did, and follow his ways. This is the gift from god here. Jesus became sin and died so we can have a clean record. Fun fact: well it’s not fun but the army told the medics to not have a cross or anything on their uniform or hat because it got the Japanese to target them more, when your not supposed to shoot medics really.

      Kenny Gudz i mean it’s not the soldiers fault technically it’s the generals and leaders because if the soldier says no he’d be shot but it’s still sad, oh and they forced commanders to work in war camps when the Geneva convention said not to and treated them like shit, whilst the Japanese soldiers where treated with at least some respect

      it was the same for all sides during the war. Americans, Germans, Japanese, Russians. Most medics on the frontline didn't wear their cross during the middle/end of the war because they were all being targeted.

    My grandad fought in Okinawa. He still tells me of the horror when he saw all the Japanese charging. He tells me that the place had a horrible stench, he was shot with a dumdum bullet in the knee and fell in a fox hole. A man leaped over the jump hole but was charged with a bayonet to the heart. He fell on my grandad and covered him. When the Japanese came to bayonet the dead corpses (They would come out after a battle and stab corpses to see if they were alive.) My grandad was protected by the man who fell on him.
