That is quite true, to be entirely honest. To turn something into a meme, you must first become a meme yourself. To fail at something is to be human, but to give up on something is to become a meme. To think of creating a meme, is to immediately become a meme yourself.

As it turns out, he’s not as clueless as he seems. He’s actually performing. He was scripted and directed in this clip.
LaBeouf was participating in a video art project called #Introductions for Central Saint Martins, a London arts college.
Each student in the class was directed to write a short script for the actor to perform on camera in front of a greenscreen. According to the Guardian, this was the assignment:
“Submit a piece of text lasting up to 30 seconds or no more than 100 words. This can be as poetic, abstract or literal as you like - with the emphasis on expressing the feeling and tone of the work being introduced.”
LaBeouf wound up performing 36 of the pieces in a single day in a Los Angeles greenscreen studio.

    • @coookalo
      @coookalo 7 месяцев назад

apparently he wrote it satirically making fun of motivational videos and how silly they can sound. He ironically made a really good motivational script for Shia to play off of. Which is part of the whole point of the project but you already know that. Amazing what a good actor can do with nothing more than a script and area to act. @@alcatraz8694

When Shia first put this out on the web, I was on the bandwagon with everyone else. I watched the “just do it” part and had my laughs. I just finished “honeyboy”. Shia is just a guy trying to figure it all out, like the rest of us. We have all had our moments when life beats you down. And we have all had our moments that we would be ashamed for others to see. The difference is, we do see Shia. We have seen Shia since he was a kid. And the media is only interested in the controversy and the mistakes. Most of what we get to see of Shia are his low points. I can’t relate to everything in this video, but there are segments that definitely hit home. I don’t care what anyone else says, this is a beautiful piece.

The one thing i disagree with.. most stuff shared, expressed, commented on... Is that people say stuff like good, positive, beautiful; but, it's also bad, negative, ugly. Reality is not only positive, but also negative... This is why we exist, and this is what makes us healthy. Acceptance of the good and bad, breathe in, and also, breathe out. Eat, and also, poop!

    • @joshua.garner
      @joshua.garner 4 года назад +4

Devon Cho for sure. A lot of what he is saying is negative, probably most of it. The beautiful thing about this video is that you watch a man who is confronting all of his demons. And those of us who can relate to what he is saying, can learn a thing or two about ourselves. Art doesn’t have to be all positive and uplifting to be beautiful. For instance Johnny Cash’s cover of the song “hurt” is all dark and negative, but still very beautiful.

I find this video fascinating. I think it’s intentionally randomised, as the normality is full of repetitive sequences. If this is genuine Shia ideas , then he is extremely intelligent and will be completely misunderstood. Seems awkward defining such an ‘out there ‘ performance with generic terms such as intelligence ... just relatable communication really. This is inspirational and identifies a breakthrough in the commonality (status quo) whatever you wanna refer to it as ...it doesn’t really matter anymore , we’re evolving slowly ..

This was a series of monologues written by fine arts students as their final art pieces. "Just Do It" was written by Joshua Parker which he said, "explores the effects that ‘health mania’ is having on contemporary life. Particular emphasis is laid upon themes of commodification, simulation and the cyclical nature of consumerism within the health, beauty and fitness industry." So it sounds like it was meant to be a parody on motivational speeches of those industries that we tend to just eat right up. Likewise, each monologue is to portray different meanings. I agree, Shia did a beautiful performance. 🙂

I know Shia got a lot of flack for this.
    This is so raw.
    I love this format.
    At first it seemed random.
Giving insight and stories for frame.
    Expanding and acting out.
I never once thought this man is crazy.
    He’s damaged.
    He’s seeking.
He’s motivating and cleansing all at once.
Shia, if you ever see this comment.
    Seek Jesus.
The profound things you feel… you are not alone. I have similarities. I am not you. Your experiences and ability to communicate are amazing. The world needs more bold people like you.
    Your passion is misunderstood.
    I stopped being a dreamer at 18.
    Dropped out of high school.
    Went to college.
    Got into drugs.
Had break down after break down.
At 31, I have found myself content.
I fear this contentment will clip my wings. With that said though being content has silenced my self doubt.
I’m scared of what the world is becoming. I don’t want to be a mindless drone working towards a retirement that seems nearly impossible to achieve. Anger and civil unrest everywhere.
    We are programmed to react.
We are programmed to be scared.
I can say my fears aren’t death.
    My fear is mediocrity.
My fear is causing or experiencing pain.
Though suffering is just as fleeting as happiness. Both parts of living.
Ups and downs… just as a heart beat I know I am alive. Though I want to live in harmony. My ego. Everyone’s ego - is always - in the way of understanding.
    Perception is king now.
Everyone’s reality seems to be more important than facts. I hate the culture. Truth and directness is considered rude. So all we do is skate around our problems and never seem to solve them. We’ve categorized ourselves and other people. As a coping mechanism to avoid suffering. Our differences that make us special now make us enemies. Though one person sees a 6 and the other sees a 9. When in reality it’s just a squiggle with limited meaning.
    What is reality?
    What we make it?
Or is reality what other’s tell us and dictate? How do we make sense of everything around us? Why must everything be explained? Why can’t things just BE?
    What brings me peace?
Jesus. The understanding of being aware of how unaware I am. That there are things I do not understand. I am not an all knowing being. I do not wish to be an all knowing being. This said I do seek further understanding into why we kill, hurt and continue to do so. No rest. The constant struggle for power or peace.
We can’t just accept everyone. Murderers and “bad” people can’t just be allowed to do as they please. What is good and what is evil? I think we see evil live and breathe daily. We can notice it more if we choose to. Then it fills us with sorrow and grief. I personally try to see the beauty in everything - even - the wicked. Everything has purpose. Everything occurs just as it is suppose to. Even death.
    So how do we cope?
Take zero ownership of anything living.
As a flower in a field it can only flourish if you allow it to. Pluck it and bring it home it will eventually die. If we leave the flower alone it will always return each Spring - new - and alive. I believe people take ownership of people and things. Rapports with parents, partners and jobs. We begin to mourn things when they change, leave or die. When in fact we do not own anything. Everything is temporary. The only things we keep are our memories. Choose to be in the now. Don’t be sad about the past. Don’t be fearful of the future. Love to live and live to love. Seek answers through the kindness of the Holy Spirit. Without spiritual guidance we are lost. Share with other’s. Do not dictate whether they stay or not. Do not take ownership of anything other than your actions. Be the person the world needs - not - the person you want to be. Less ego and more peace will come. Let go of these devices. Don’t let the world make you something you aren’t. Narrow your focus on what is important to your consciousness and your living experience. When you choose to be positive - with practice - in time you will notice hard work will change your concept of living.
    Open up to other’s.
Don’t expect to not get burnt.
Live long enough to see everyone will disappoint you. That doesn’t mean their importance is less. It means dependence on other’s is a one way ticket to sadness and envy. View relationships as an open door. Choose to be with people who choose to be with you. Be aloof. The people who matter will stay until they are gone. So, cherish them. The good, the bad and the ugly. Allow “bad” things to become “trial”. Opportunity for growth. Allow good things to not blind you. Don’t get stuck on “things have been great” or “things have been so hard lately”. Both are essential. All things have purpose. So let things be as they may be.
Anyways, to anyone who reads this. Know there’s always someone you’ve impacted. Whether you left a “good” impression or not, you impact everyone around you every morning you wake up. If you choose to engage with other’s choose your narrative. Your choices are the only choices you can control. If it’s in your control - do something - do it. If it’s out of your control - well - leave it and accept it.

(simple research) The artists invited Central Saint Martins BA Fine Art students to submit texts of up to 100 words to introduce their degree show work. These texts were then performed by LaBeouf in front of a green screen, before the footage was returned to the students and simultaneously released to the public under a Creative Commons license.
