Not an easy topic to comprehend but I can sense its potential, will have to watch this tutorial twice. I often encountered the term 'displacement map' but before now never had a clue what it's about. Thanks 4 sharing!
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It's not an easy topic to understand especially if you're not from a 3D background. However I felt it was important enough to create a video about it because it's valuable information that is often overlooked for beginners.
Thanks for your kind comment. It was always my intention to build a database for beginners to Daz Studio because there was no database when I started with Daz Studio so I spent many hours searching for answers inside forums, which is very time intensive.
Thanks for your feedback. This was a test video for this timeline. It takes more work to do, but I think it will help people be more focused and see what topics will be discussed in the tutorial.
Thanks a lot for the tutorial and the great source for free 3Dtextures in the description. There are many great textures and playing around with them is very fun and interesting :) Oh, and by the way, the timeline down below was helpful for the organization indeed. If doing that in post is to much work you could consider putting time marks in the description for quick navigation. Kinda like an index if I want to refer to a video back in the future I won't have to search for everything. For example 2:00 Texture Maps 4:00 Base Maps ...
The timeline was an experiment. It does take extra time to do. I will try to add timestamps in future tutorials. PBR materials are the best and most realistic materials.
The AO map can be used anywhere as there is no set place where you must apply this texture. I encourage you to try the AO map in the different sections in the Iray Shader such as glossy, glossy roughness, Top Coat, Cutout Opacity, displacement to get some very unique effects. Maps (Spec, bump, displacement, roughness, AO) can be used in any area of the Iray Shader for unique effects.
Yes, the specular map is the same as the glossy map. Your terminology is correct I should have called it the specular map because that is the correct naming convention. Hopefully I haven't confused people with glossy and specular maps. Thanks for pointing this out.
Thanks for your question. Each render engine (3delight, iray, octane and filament) has their own shaders. Some shaders are compatible with different render engines. 3delight shaders are compatible with the iray render engine. Filament and octane shaders are not compatible with the iray render engine. If you want the best renders then stick with Iray shaders and convert old objects to use the iray shader. I hope this answers your question.
The problem I'm having is that most of the default materials, particularly for characters, have multiple diffuse textures on a single model and when I go to change the diffuse map, say the torso, just the torso will be textured with the rest of the model turning white. How do you alter a single texture in this case?
This tutorial was more to do with clothing than textures for figures. Although the same rules apply. You will need to select skin from in the surfaces tab and then apply the textures. This will then apply the texture to the whole figure.
@@ParmyBaddhan Thanks for the reply, in this instance I found that I had to go to the Default Templates tab with the character selected and the various parts were separated into templates.
Thank you for a really useful video! But when I apply any of these maps they don't seem to work/ show up on the model. What am i doing wrong? Thanks in advance! :)
I would apply these textures specifically using Geoshells to figures because you don't want to change the existing texture maps for your figures. Applying these textures without geoshells to props or clothing is fine.
I think with facegen the initial image that you use has to be of good quality. You may have to take the textures into photo editing software and modify the specific maps such as base color maps and glossy maps to remove the dark and bright shadows.

Parmy has done more for the Daz community than Daz itself

This is one of the best explanations of this concept.
Thanks for your kind comment. I hope this video helps you to achieve your goals with Daz Studio.
New subscriber here. I really like the index timeline on the bottom; keeps me centered on the topic.

Thank you for yet another great tutorial. Following your tutorials has become my regular sunday evening DAZ studio learning time.
Thanks for your kind comment. I spend my Sundays learning new skills that I can teach in upcoming tutorials.😄
Let me know your thoughts on the timeline at the bottom of the video. Is it helpful or a hindrance?
quite helpful. Kind of like a table of contents. I like it.
thanks for the feedback. It takes more work to do. I will try and add them to my videos.
@@ParmyBaddhan if it takes lots of time, maybe just add the time stamps in the video description
@@gaymo69 thanks for your comment. As tutorials get longer I will start adding timestamps.
You make some of the most straight forward and easy to follow Daz tutorials I have found. Thank you!
You're welcome. I look forward to seeing your progress.
Amazing video! Lots of things to learn from! Thanks!

What about the mapping methods?
Specular Map is the same that Glossy map?
