    I've been doing hair for 14 years but have been licensed for 9 years. I've been out of the business for 6 months now due to having rotator cuff shoulder surgery. I've basically lost all my clientele and want to get back to the salon. I'm having to start over with not only my clientele but finding another salon to work in soon. At this point I'm bummed out with no luck of what to do and be and stay motivated. I truly would rather be in my own salon but I don't see that happening. I'm so lost

      Roberta Campbell I’m so sorry to hear about your injury. No question that is a huge set back and I get why you are discouraged. If i were you, to reduce the overwhelm, I’d start with one thing at a time. I think your first goal should be to get back to work. Find a salon that inspires you! Don’t give up on your goal to have your own, but I think you will be surprised how much just starting again with help your spirit and Remind you why you love it, and give you a flow of ideas to plan your future. I hope that helps! ❤️

I would suggest you to start learning to explore new hairstyles, check for something different hairstyles which you may find in magazines, instagram etc. Try to do those cuts and styles. Its ok to fail as long as you're always giving your best. This keeps me motivated and always have a goal to learn more and more because this is what hairdressing is. You never stop learning, and thats what keeps you motivated at all times

    I am a new stylist in a poverty stricken area. Pricing is something that I would love to increase but the area I’m in will not allow me. I started in my first salon in August and am bringing in around $1200 within a month. I just need to learn the marketing techniques to be the best in my area. Thank you for all that you do. ♥️

    • @LaurenFrancesHair
      @LaurenFrancesHair  4 года назад +2

      Jamie Bingham hey! So I have seen many stylists do amazing in unlikely areas and small towns and that is because of the internet! For me personally I eventually had clients that would fly out or drive from hours away to come see me. So location makes it easier but it isn’t everything! Just want to let you know it is absolutely possible! But your plan to set yourself apart at least from the competition in your area, is a perfect start! You are on the right track! ❤️

It shows how much of an issue we have in relationship to money, we desperately want lots of it, but get offended if someone brings to our attention the fact that we DO like money, AND want it.

    Question!! I am a cosmetologist of about 12 years now. Only 3 on my own. I do believe I am worth more than what i charge.I only charge 37 for a haircut right now. I do wash haircut and blowdry. do you think going up to 45 for my previous clients is too much at once. or should i start off by raising only $5? I am doing a price change very soon but im torn on how high to go. I eventually want to raise my haircut price to $50. I wont go that high though for a long time i think. not dure how to go about it????

    • @nvennhairbeauty
      @nvennhairbeauty Год назад

      Going up to 45 is fine. Its not that much of a jump. Its best to rip the bandaid off just once because you should really only raise your prices once every 1 - 1.5 years. It also depends how busy you are. If you arent very busy, you might want to wait to get busier first before raising your prices

I don't believe at all she makes $20,000 a month......i was also told most the time shes just styling hair, not cutting or anything else. JUST NO!. I also saw on her facebook page where she's critisizing a side part. To me this is so closed minded. Not everyone looks good with hair parted in the middle.

    So confused tho I’m guessing that means doing 3 balayage for me 175 at the start but unfortunately as a single mother I don’t have much time in the salon so I could do maybe 2 balayage then I need to get them from school so I’m having a hard time on this

    • @LaurenFrancesHair
      @LaurenFrancesHair  4 года назад +5

      Yes especially as a single mom your time away from babies is so much more valuable! You need to do higher priced services so you are not tied to the salon. I charged $100/hr and did a min of 3 hrs for each appointment for balayage. I took only 1 client per day. It is possible and it is so rewarding!! But you may have to rethink the way you do business! You may have to endure some growing pains for it to work!

    • @rubycmua
      @rubycmua 3 года назад +3

      Juliet! I was just on your same boat! My starting price was $150 for balayage and I always included a blowout and style. Took 3-4.5 hrs on each client and ended with $150-$180 max. I felt guilty even charging that amount as I felt bad for my clients.
      After Covid, and hearing all my fellow neighbors at sola salons talk about pricing, I raised by pricing. I was scared to lose clients trust me. But it was a nice surprise to notice clients were still willing to pay my higher price and losing out on previously “free” services.
      I’m not at $180 starting for balayage and that includes one bowl of lightener and one bowl of toner.
      Any additional bowls are $20 each, and blowouts are an add on or $25 and an add on blow dry with curls is $45....
      My avg ticket is now $250 vs my old $150 and I’m doing the same work!
      Sad to see I was underpaid and over delivering. Leaving my babies behind all day sucked. Now I can work less. Take good pics of your work girl! People start believing in you and won’t question prices, and those who do, aren’t worth tour time anyway. Weed out the bad clients.

    Never a franchise but a private yes.
    I have the worst haircut(Rocker with an 80s hairstyle,,)for the business of hairstylist.
    But still despite not liking and having zero interest in fashion and hair styles I bought an 95k hair salon that has 9 chairs and 2 spa rooms(these rooms are already leased before purchasing the place and cover 4000$ of the 6100$ monthly lease!..
    Mortgage is 720$/month-I provided 10k in down payment.
    I am in the International Vancouver,Canada.
    My location is Downtown.
    And yes I do offer at least great opening hours 7 days a week and 12 hours a day access to the salon for the stylists.
    That help getting stylists moving in,,
    On the 9 chairs I managed to have 5 rented out monthly by the second week owning it.
    -5000$
    plus the already income from both spa already rented out rooms
    -4000$
    INCOME---9000$/MONTH (squaring here)
    Monthly expenses are:
    Mortgage-720$
    Utilities-400$ (squaring here)
    Lease-6100$
    Property tax-280$
    EXPENSES---7500$(squaring here again,)
    So I end out right now with 2500$ a month doing absolutely nothing,nothing.
    And still have 4 chairs to rent out.
    then once the chairs rented out my 2500$ will become 6500$ a month doing nothing(utilities might go up of 200$ish so 6300$.
    Now you have a detailed! plan that show you"yes buy an hair salon!!!"
    -BUY SMALL
    -NO FRANCHISE
    -NEVER HIRE PROFESSIONALS BY THE HOUR!(MONTHLY CONTRACTORS ONLY)
    All best!
