    • @LaurenFrancesHair

Hey Gaowy! Think of it like a college degree. You aren’t an expert after a year. It takes 4 years to get a bachelors degree and believe me I have one, and you still are no expert after that. But with hair, you can definitley speed up the process my learning marketing and emerging yourself in advanced education. 1 you get a lot better, and two, you will be able to find the things that you excel in and you can capitalize on that. Give yourself a few years of complete dedication to business skill development, and practice and when you are ready to go on your own you will hit the ground running! ❤️

Cathleen Marks Hey! Thanks so much! What i would suggest to anyone who wants to become a hairstylist is to work at a salon first before going to school. This video is so relatable! After apprenticing for 3 years and going on the floor for the first time as a commission based stylist I was having a hard time surviving because I had no clients lol. I attended advanced training for cutting for 3 months and learned a lot! It’s true if you don’t practice it doesn’t get better. I decided to specialize in colour, but I’m doing more cuts because the salon I work at has more cut clients. I’m just hoping my clientele will grow, because at the end of the day we gotta eat and pay the bills lol.

Hi! I love you and I love your videos! I think you give stellar advice. Just on a side note, this video plays way more quietly than others of yours, so it's difficult to hear even on full volume. The hilarious part is the auto-generated CC is Korean for some reason....lol.

I like doing highlights but it usually takes me so long so I try to deter them from getting it but that's what they always request.

Don’t turn away work if you need it. But make extra time to hone that skill and spend your energy marketing it until people start coming to you for that!

You are one smart young lady. It was also kind of you to remember to credit your Dad.
I have been a business/owner for 20 plus years, Barber. I didnt need to consider a niche because at that time, barbering schools were closing and men were sent to ladies salons, with all the stinky perms etc. So, i guess i had a nich without realizing it, because men were unhappy, with that blend.
Now i am opening eyelash extensions. I do not use premade fans, have a steady hand, and critical eye. I also have invested in the best quality comfort. So here is my niche. Older women. Thank you fir making me realize that, I do have a niche. I sent out postcards as well. Facebook frustrates me. I am stuck with wording to describe my niche. We dont like the words, mature, older, or anything, really. Women are harder to market to.. hahaha. They love my work, but are diffucult to get in the door. Any ideas on a shorter niche line, for advertizing?

I love the way you think! What I would suggest is paying attention to ads and marketing on fb or on tv that targets that age group for inspiration!

Trust me. I'm in the same boat right now. I've been with the salon in at for a year and I am so underpaid and hate it. I hate the environment and the location. I'm looking for another salon to go to and enjoy the environment and make more money that I'm worth

I just moved to the u.s from Europe , been doing hair nearly 20 years. My salon has given me one client in 3 weeks and just told me it’s up to me to get clients , and told me to go out on the streets and offer free haircuts in the hopes they will come back. Where I come from it’s mainly up to the salon to get the clients in , and my job to make them happy and keep coming back to me. I put great work on social media , grab anyone I can to do something cool with and get pics , I just feel so low I don’t know many people here , if I knew I’d be wandering the Streets at 36 offering free hair I never would have come here. What do you think? Xx

sarah This is what I think. Going out and getting your own clients is the best and quickest way to grow. I am not above it and never will be. I think everyone needs to master that skill. However, my thing, is that is one of the most challenging parts of being a hair stylist. Why would I want to do it for someone else? If I’m going to put that kind of effort in, it’s going to be for my business, not another salon. 🤷🏻‍♀️ UNLESS, I was first starting out and the salon was teaching me how to do it while also supplementing me with giving me some of their own clients. Otherwise I see no benefit in working for a salon. 🤷🏻‍♀️
