@svenstreet Some lenses are specifically made for the 40mp sensor, it's a big task to utilize that sensors resolution. It's because the 40mp Aps-c has a pixel density equivalent to a 90mp+ full frame, which doesn't even exist.

In the interview, Toshihisa Iida, general manager of Fujifilm’s optical device and electronic imaging products division, was asked if Fujifilm would enter the full-frame market “now that all of the legacy DSLR makers except Ricoh have full-frame mirrorless systems.”
The executive responded in no uncertain terms, saying, “No, never. Because we don’t have that legacy - luckily or unluckily.”
Iida, who was speaking at the recent Photokina trade show in Cologne, Germany, added: “We don’t see any point in Fujifilm entering that market, particularly since we have good APS-C and medium-format systems.”
The executive said that if Fujifilm launched a full-frame device, its own cameras “would just start cannibalizing each other.” He told DPReview that the company was “happy to stay with two completely independent systems.”

As much as I love this idea, I don't think Fujifilm will launch whole FF system. It's too much hassle and money. They don't have resources necessary to fight in apsc, FF and medium format.
Instead I think they will launch FF camera with gfx lenses. It will replace old 50mpix sensor from gfx 50r/s. This would be new entry point to gfx lineup. Give it retro vibe and it will sell well.

The factual benefits of full frame vs. Apsc are not nearly as large as Sony marketing bs will have you believe, 3. Full frame cameras require a new lens lineup… will not happen, 4. Will cannibalize both the existing X-line of apsc cameras and medium format, 5. Fuji medium format is very affordable compared to full frame high end cameras… in other words… no way… in hell!

Nikon are doing everything Fuji should have done. The Zf is kicking their butts. Plus the focus issues, they are in danger of becoming irrelevant, as I see many people leaving or considering leaving Fuji. They really have to do something to stop them becoming the next Kodak. I think they will release a sensor bigger than full frame but smaller than medium format. But it will probably be a sensor related to a new Instax series.

  • @mythicbone

Good day Tudor, everybody wants something different...but for my shooting style (primes 20 to 90mm FF), I hope your right. I feel that APSC has reach is limit in sized lens, like M4/3. Maybe this is why Fuji don't have a road lens map anymore, they are slow to bring new and updated lens. I'm really looking to the A7CII right now, rangefinder body with IBIS with the size of X-T50. Except 100VII, Fuji don't have rangefinder camera with IBIS, Sony have it since A6500 in 2016...it's 2024-2025 now. Love my XT-5 and X100V, but APSC don't have an advantage anymore in the size for me, as I don't shoot long with longer lens. For the aperture lens, Sigma have them and the Sony small 24-40-50 f2.5 have them too. For the colours and SOOC jpegs, I heard good thing about the Creatives looks and Pictures profiles/Luts of Sony, maybe not perfect, but could be a fun thing to try.

And X-A had the non X-Trans sensors. Of course it wasn't Fujfilm's little magic so... the E sold better.
And that is really the thing, the "fujifilm magic"
It is their niche, their thing. It is what they do. Even though yes a basic standard array these days can easily be as good.

I almost switched to Sony FF. The problem with the Nikon Zf is the lenses are ugly, big and expensive with QC issues. Sony adds A LOT of built in sharpening to their images. And Adobe doesn't render XTrans images correctly. XTrans images done properly with the right software are actually sharper than bayer sensor images in my experience. If your bayer images are sharper you have to figure out why, something isn't right. DXO does the best job with Fuji files. I'd buy a Fuji FF if they get the mix right. But they will probably do a X100IV with a FF sensor. Then they don't have to invest in a whole lens rollout. I wouldn't buy that.

You don't buy a Fuji for sharpness, you buy it for the way it renders the image.
No-one other than photographers care about how sharp an image is, especially in portraiture.
No-one wants to see the details of every wrinkle, every pore, every scar.
If you want clinical accuracy or you are cataloguing for a museum etc. you don't buy a Fuji X (you'd not by a Sony either if you have a budget you'd be shooting medium format)
I don't mean to offend anyone, but there are 2 types of people that take photographs, Photographers who see the camera as a tool to make their art, and Photographers that want to record detail exactly as it is. If you are the later, you probably wont buy a Fuji as there are better options.
I don't see Fuji releasing an interchangeable lens Full frame camera, I can't see how it makes any business sense, If it is not an X-Trans sensor, then it is just another Exactly the same sensor found in Sony, Nikon etc cameras and Fuji falls behind on Autofocus etc so wont stand out.
If they release a Full frame Fixed lens camera, it'll either compete with the X100 series, or Leica Q3.
Maybe they are looking at the compact camera market and seeing it abandoned... maybe Fuji have decided to make a Super zoom1" sensor camera, Panasonic and Sony have not released anything in years, and would give Fuji what Panasonic (rebranded by Leica) used to have the LX100 M43 sensor and the FZ1000/2000 a 1" sensor super zoom. a "large" sensor compact in the X100 and a 1" Bridge camera (I remember back in 2012? Fuji had the X-S1 a Super zoom bridge camera based on a 2/3 sensor).

I’ve said it countless times. The EVF/OVF is a game breaker for Fuji. They’ve sat idly on this technology for too long. All they need is a FF X-Pro 4, EVF/OVF with a Leica M mount. If they can make it for less than an M it will be epic. With Leica you have to use a Visoflex or rear screen to help with precise focusing. With the EVF/OVF the visoflex is built in. This new camera will be either in the X-Pro 4 or an X100 type body.

Editing from my raw colored files. It depends, the monochrome sensor will be harder to edit because you can't apply color editing techniques for black and white editing - it's limiting you a lot in post-processing, and in shooting scenarios you may need to use yellow, and red filters to enhance contrast. In digital editing, you can control the luminosity of each color channel. But I do agree that the Leica Q2 monochrome shines :D

Fujifilm has medium format why would they go full frame

Because medium format it's not for everybody - big lenses, expensive, bad AF, limitations. Full frame is the sweet spot 👍

One rumor that I read for the new camera with a "different sensor" was to reintroduce the old film era Fujifilm T-X1 panoramic with a digital sensor. Who knows? I've stopped trying to guess.
But, it doesn't matter. Why? Because Fujifilm has not been able to supply product to meet demand for years now. A new camera will just be another "did not anticipate the demand..." press release statement and people will be frustrated.
I've shot Fujifilm for 6 or 7 years with six bodies and a dozen XF lenses, but could not buy the cameras that I wanted. Those cameras were replaced by new models and now you can't buy those without a long wait.
Fujifilm lost my buisness because they can't sell me the products in their catalog. I'll be going back to Nikon and get the cameras and lenses immediately.

Its already confirmed at fuji rumor that the new sensor camera is not the panoramic camera (the panoramic camera is still coming though but its a different camera than the one speculated here)

FF for Fuji IMHO doesn’t make any sense at all. Clickbait with a attention-drawing title and some advertising for the - nonetheless great - Fuji-Systems. I know several photographers who make a living with X-Cameras in APSC and would not change to FF. it’s not necessary either.
“Professional photographers do not want smaller packages?” Seems like you don’t know too many wedding photographers. For decent wedding photography a small package providing great quality is all.

Only thing i Know is that Fuji NEED only One Mount. Like Sony, Nikon and Canon. No more two mounts nonsense. You can update the GFX mount to be the smaller possible and with the shorter flange distance possible, even smaller and shorter flange distance than XCD mount. With that mount Fuji would be in the Nikon Z territory, milimeter more or less. You can use that mount for APSC, FF and MF (44x33mm). And Fuji X and GFX lenses would be fully adaptable to the new mount.

They will not make a full frame, sorry. They have to make new lenses for the system.

Well, according to another you tube video I just watched, they are doing a ‘half-frame’ portrait orientation. Yup, they are willing to put effort into a “half-frame” for all the current social media content creators. But, not a Full Frame to pull some users from Sony or Canon. I want a full frame with Fuji Film film sims. I want the awesome Fuji Film Simulations on SOC images. No having to mess with software editing. But nope, still no Full Frame. 😢

There is zero point to invest in full frame. Fuji dominates both apsc and budget friendly medium format. The competition is way too stiff in fullframe. why compete with Canon, Nikon, Sony etc and waste money? It would be highly fiscally irresponsible of them to do so. Fuji does not have sony or canon money to waste on suicide missions
