i was so shocked because i LOVE this song and it's lyrics. "and after all this time that you still owe.... you're still a good for nothing i dont know!" like the speaker cant even think of the words to call the person he's singing about.
absolutely, I Don't Love you is the most heartbreaking track on the album. I interpret it as the main character's lover leaving him because he's dying of cancer, and the main character resenting her for it. I could go on and on about this album and it's story for hours.
Kind of an exact case of “you had to be there” kinda record. It’s largely contextual, without the videos and marketing that blew it up in the first place- it’s a bit of an odd duck. Can’t be overstated how much this record has done for alt music at the time and even now. Hard disagree on Sleep though. One of the top tracks for sure.
I couldn't disagree more. This album is aging beautifully. You just have to understand it's a concept album about death and the back and forth between death and the cancer patient. Just adds so much depth to every song. I wasn't into the album when it came out besides the 2 hits everyone knows, but got heavily invested after realizing the story inside the album.
I never liked this band when I was in high school, outside of Helena, which has one of the catchiest hooks of all time. That said, took a dive into their discography last year just to give them a chance and Three Cheers is really fantastic. Lots of interesting tracks on that record and I think it's way more in John's wheel house. For the tracks that aren't singles, Hang 'em High and Give 'em Hell Kid are really dope.
This is a reaction video which is based on personal Assessment of the songs according to one's taste of music and personal experience. So, nobody should feel offended if John doesn't like this Album / Style of music. Most people who relate to this album and consider it as a classic (like myself), they relate to it based on their experiences , feelings, nostalgia of the 2000s era. 😊
I'm definitely not your stereo typical MCR fan...I like some songs but this is the only album from them that I bought into hook line and sinker... My ranks (I'm ranking The End and Dead! As one because I never listen to one without the other..) 1. The End w/ 2. Dead! - 9.5 3. Dissappear 8 4. Sharpest Lives 8.5 5. Black Parade 10 6. I Don't Love You 7 7. House of Wolves 8 8. Cancer 7 9. Mama 4 10. Sleep 4 11. Teenagers 5.5 12. Disenchanted 6 13. Famous Last Words 10 8.5 for the Black Parade.
Not a MCR fan, but this album is good IMO. I don’t personally like it all that much- a little to theatric for me, but I’ve listened to it a few times. Used to have a lot of guitar students want to learn these songs back in the day. I’d say the album is an 8+ in its genre, but I’d give it a personal score of like 5 or so. Tbh, I’d rather listen to this cover to cover than SO’s newest release 😂
I totally agree on WttBP, I always just end up skipping the intro part. It's kind of like 88 by Sum 41 for me, the chorus goes so hard but the intro and outro are so long. ESPECIALLY 88. Literally the chorus hits 2 times and then it's sleeper for me. Like, it's so hard to have those 2 songs on my playlist that I listen to while playing a game or something because the parts that would actually fit the game I'm playing are like a minute into the song.
The amount of dislikes is crazy. Probably from the dissing of certain songs like Sleep lol. I'll be honest it wasn't my favorite song on the album on my first listen, but like you guys said before towards the beginning of the video y'all make a great point about revisiting albums you've heard before. For me Sleep has risen over time as one of my favorites especially after learning more of the context behind the song, and on repeat listens I almost always find new favorites that I didn't care much for beforehand. I was like this for a few albums lol. The Story So Far for example, I listened to their album What You Don't See last year and honestly thought it was mid. I didn't like the screaming vocals I didn't find any song to stand out at all, Yeah Idk it was like a 2.5 for me. Then all of a sudden I decided after hearing some more of the songs through my Spotify shuffle to give it a re-listen. And I don't know what my 1-year ago self was on cuz one re-listen turned into like 5 and now it's an incredibly high like, 9.1 album for me.
I think calling some of these songs "filler" is a little inaccurate. I think they're just songs that don't resonate with what these particular listeners enjoy and that makes them easier to write off as filler. I get that its not his style and he can't really wade too deeply into the lyrics and story, and lore but I think there's a little bit of a shallow categories of all the "sad" songs together that fails to capture the nuance....and its a concept album about a cancer patient, so yeah going to be a lot of sadness and plodding self-introspection here. Man, this guy must really hate prog rock😂 Edit: And to be clear I'm not bashing the rater(s), just saying I think this is just more not his thing than a commentary of the actual quality of the music.
This isn't a judgment on the quality of The Black Parade, 100% personal preference. Filler, in this context, just means a weaker track that feels unexceptional for where it's placed on the album, not that the band threw it on there just to fill up space. Thanks for watching though man, and appreciate all the thoughts - Elliot
Can’t bear to watch this after someone said you gave it a 2, not gonna lie, just bc I don’t see entertainment value in that 😅 It’s personally my least fav of their discography (they’re my fav band of all time), but it’s technically a damn good record even if it’s not to someone’s personal tastes. But if you wanted punk MCR, the album before would probably be closer to your wheelhouse, early MCR was mostly horror punk/post hardcore with the concepts, visuals, and metal influence. Some of their biggest inspirations that come out more in albums 1/2 include Misfits, The Cramps, Siousxie Sioux, Iron Maiden hardcore punk and the Big 4. They’re a very broad band with the subgenres of rock they cover, but their messages and performances were way more punk than anyone else at the time (and still are).
I have that CD in front of me right now. Never really got into it at the time. Concept albums do my head in generally. I also was thrown by the Queen guitars and theatrics. It was well done though. Too hard to rate track by track. It is a whole thing, but hard to bloody do as a whole thing too.
For sure its a record that has to be taken in its entirety. I feel the pacing of the songs is similar to a musical, and in that context I think it works. I have no strong feelings about MCR one way or another, but I do feel somewhat sorry for people that are so locked into one genre, or just flat out lack the attention span to handle albums like this. If you cant do Black Parade then how would you ever make it through Led Zeplin, Primus, Tea Party etc...?
I personally love this record but I can totally get people not enjoying it. There’s a couple B-sides off this album that are enjoyable as well called Heaven Help Us, My Way Home is Through You and Kill All Your Friends. A little less bloated feeling than some of the actual tracks that made the record.
Welcome to the Black Parade 9.2, I don’t love you 9.5, Mama 9.4, Teenagers 8.5, Famous last words 9.4. The rest of the album I won’t go out of my way to play, but by no means are they bad songs.
Wow, if only the format for how you released this video was bad, skipping the actual tracks, but then you both are horrible at rating music as well to boot. If you are only going to appreciate music that sticks to the predictable format that is your preference maybe having a reaction channel is not your calling.
I enjoyed a good bit of the two records they did before this. I hated this album when it came out. Everyone was like "it's the best thing ever!". It fucking sucks.
What I love about MCR is every album has a different sound, but is also unmistakably MCR. Honestly everyone's opinion of "what is punk" is going to be different.
Sleep is great for Gerard screaming "wake up" almost incomprehensibly behind the wall of sound.
It's a crime that I Don't Love You was ranked so abysmally low. Blows my fucking mind.
This guy doesn’t know ball just chalk it up to that lol one of the best ones on a near perfect album
i was so shocked because i LOVE this song and it's lyrics. "and after all this time that you still owe.... you're still a good for nothing i dont know!" like the speaker cant even think of the words to call the person he's singing about.

Definitely, The Black Parade was an event.
It was an experience.
Personally, I love the theatricality of it. It defined years of my life.

I never listened to them growing up, but in my late teen early twenties love this record and the band as a whole

whenever i hear the "holding on tonight" part of Helena my brain immediately jumps to Unknown Soldier by Breaking Benjamin

Also you guys should listen to the B sides. My way home is through you is a bigger banger than the record could contain
We might do Three Cheers next but I'll listen to that B-side, I've heard it before but don't really remember it to well

I think John will enjoy Three Cheers much better, I would bet even significantly more lol
"expectations are..... below....... low" made me laugh
What's the point of putting "Reaction" in the title if you guys cut the entire reaction part out of the video...
probably copyright issues
@@AlqhemyA nah ive seen other channels react to it too they leave the full songs in

There is no way I believe this is Johns first time hearing this... if it was Dead Kennedys record then maybe
