- We're really don't like the term "expert" anymore. Writing a book, taking a course, or holding a certificate or political office doesn't necessarily make someone an expert. There are lots of people in every field who claim to be experts but they lack credibility. Credibility is far superior to claiming expertise, especially when it comes to trauma. Trauma experts are people who have lots of education, experience, and credibility among the people they help.
That's not to say that only professionals can be helpful, but be very cautious when people claim to be experts but lack credibility or a vast amount of experience and education. It really matters, when we are processing trauma, whether someone is credible or not.

I began training 40+ years ago to be a therapist. I soon realized that most people in training were really messed up. Most of them went on to get master's degrees and doctorates. They were still more messed up than most of their clients, even though they held degrees and licenses. I gave up on that path because I did not think that I was strong enough to do it. There are many really good therapists out there, and like you said, they have credibility. I am still wary of therapists, some of whom have all the right credentials. Like you say, do your homework and you will find a good person for your care.
Dunce originally meant the smartest guy in the room. I heart on an Australian cop show (City Homicide) that the Dunce of the Class can refer to the valedictiorian. Amazing how the meaning of a word can go totally opposite over time.
That will happen in Australia. Like in the 70s there was a book on Australian slang, and the term "old bastard" meant friend.
i met a few authors that say they are experts in this or that esp in religion, as an advocate i show and teach my clients to be their own advocates , i feel that if we teach our kids about budgeting our kids wont be in debt .. i had one class in business and we learned how to balance a budget but when i or my classmates gets home our parents say no no its this way or that way ..
If people want to know how to get out of debt...there is for example Dave Ramsey's Information on RUclips, Radio etc. He's helped Millions already.
Yes! Tell the world Jimmy. What qualifies people to be experts?
As well as the degrees being wielded as weapons. And Clara you are right. I want a real degree. Not a Joe schmoe on the street
Too mammy experts, waiting to tear at each other the minute they don't agree with you. Anti-abusers can really hurt. Sorry, Jimmy, you may not see what goes on in your group.
