Boat trailer axle spindle repair with JB Weld

- I did this repair in June 2021 on a trailer for a 16 foot Jon Boat. The trailer is light duty and won't haul over 1000 pounds. I wanted to use the boat trailer for several trips to prove it was a solid repair before posting this video. A full season later after 5 trips and about 500 miles I've had no issues with the trailer axle, hubs or bearings. JB Weld to the rescue again!
At first I was like JB naw! But when you flipped it I was like, why didn’t I think of that?
Yep, I'm going to have to do the same thing. The previous owners delivered the boat to me from 70 miles away without greasing the bearings. Couple days later I went to move it around the driveway and it broke. Better there than on the highway I guess
3:13 Aha! That's going to be a lot easier than messing around with fine grit sandpaper and a digital dial Caliper
Does anybody fix these professionally or would they just consider it junk and replace the axle?
👍
7 months later bro how did it hold ❓❓❓❓
I took the boat Trailer out on 100 mile trips 3 or 4 times after the repair with no issues. I'm intending to sell that boat and trailer this year. I have no concerns about the repair holding up. I haven't taken the hubs back apart to inspect it visually though.
@@silvers74 thanks brother I'm kind of in the same spot so I'm going to give that a try. I subscribe to your. Thanks for dropping the knowledge
You seriously don't think that's a good idea do you? Jb weld is not going to hold. Should have welded and machined it. That's accident waiting to kill someone else.
Yes I do think it will hold up and by flipping the axle a 180゚ there's no direct load on that spot from the inside of the wheel bearing. And there was plenty of material in the axle spindle before the repair so that there's no chance of it breaking in half and killing someone. If properly greased it should last until the trailer falls apart.
