- Follow me as I replace my old Broken Rusted out Torsion Axles. Salt can be a killer to Boat Trailers and the Axles. this is a How to DIY Video. I hope you enjoy it and find it helpful. Now I can get back out there Fishing and all the other things that having a boat allows one to do.
Great vid.
Even for guys who wouldn't tackle the job themselves videos like this are really valuable to see what's what's involved when contracting the work out.
Knowing myself I would have waited for cooler weather to takle that second axle.
Yeah I would have waited to but I was missing out on fishing opportunities so decided to go for it lol
I had the issue as you. Someone told me to put peel and stick tar paper where you put the starboard.
Good job. It works. I am getting ready to do this. I would think the hard board spacers you added would disintegrate over time leaving a gap and possibly make the bolts loose. You might check that. Might be better to use stainless steel or aluminum as a spacer or nothing.
Your a better man than I for doing that project in those temps/humidity!
I wouldn’t if I didn’t love fishing 🎣 😂
Good job 👏🏻
It's actually Galvanic corrosion (also called bimetallic corrosion or dissimilar metal corrosion) not electrolysis.
5/16 ???
Need to do the same thing on my cats 18 foot float on trailer.
where would i get these axles at what kind are they any help thanks guys
4 bolts around the frame would not weaken the frame. a few layers of tar paper would stop the corrosion
How much were they because I’m going to have to do the same thing
How’s the starboard holding up? I’m thinking of putting a rubber gasket in between
Seems to be holding up fine so far
Use the aluminum spacer so it corroded and not ur trailer
I cant believe there are no brakes on that trailer. Would have been a good time to add at least 1 axle.
It's FL we ain't fighting hills out here! Just don't tail gate anyone and you'll be good.
5/16 = 1" these days
