The Volkswagen Golf is as popular as ever, and now the company has launched an estate version of the latest Golf. It’s got a huge boot and loads of rear legroom, with a comfortable ride and excellent economy. However it’s outclassed by the Skoda Octavia estate, which does everything the Golf can do at a cheaper list price.

4:06 - says the rear seats "fold COMPLETELY flat"
4:12 - shows that the rear seats don't fold completely flat 🙈
Seems like a silly thing to point out, but this is the single detail that I came here to find out! Thanks for the demo though, still answered my question ;)
I think what he really meant to say was that they fold almost flat and there's no edge between the seats and the rear. And that would be fair to point out. - But yeah, could have worded that better, that's true. - but other than that, pretty flawless review.
With weight, they go flat..lol
How an engineer can have the nerve not to design an estate to have fold flat - not squash flat - seats escapes me.
Nice review James
Are these the same front lights on the gt estate. Or is this a gt estate as the lights look different and do you get the swooping indicators
Beautiful and technology SW. Love vw
Hi. What exact colour is that? Platinum grey metallic?
Judging by comments looks like James has grown on the audience. Well done mate.
got a Mk7 Golf Sportwagen (read Estate) for $24k here in the US including tax. Limited trim, it has most of the things mentioned in this video including a massive sunroof. I love it, good to live with so far.
An Ngo Glückwunsch. :)
Is this the sam testrack as CARWOW has?
OMG I was really worried, but I've been put at ease, you CAN fit crisps in the glove box!
(P.S: I am yet to meet someone who puts crisps in the glove box!)
🤗😂😂😂
oh dear, someone has to explain the obvious....
SOS10 I know right, someone can't take a joke 😳😂
CRRRRRISPSS
Can you review the new 2017 Renault Clio Sports Tourer?
I agree, the most sensible. ...and very nice looking.
Sad that you are not showing if a full set of golf clubs and trolley fit in the estates.
I drive a '15 tsi se Sportwagon, 1.8t.
It is amazing to drive with 170hp/200 torque. Never broken down.
Best mpg has been 39 mpg on road trip.
This has 6sp auto.
They should have offered a GTI Sportwagon.
Cheers and VW discontinued reg Golfs in the states even though see alot of them.
How is the car doing today? Any turbo problems?
@@dmitrymalikov4613 Doing great, 68k miles. Still no problems with the car, feels like new still.
About to get brakes, tranny and coolant service. Keep it running as long as possible. I drive it hard sometimes and this helps burn off carbon.
Amazing engine!
Castrol Edge full synthetic 5w40 which was factory fill. I tried Castrol Edge 0w40 which has a higher lube rating by Mercedes Benz, maybe less wear on cold start up.
10k drain intervals
I would like to find a 2018 golf for my wife but she likes the heated steering wheel in her Fiat 500x.
Cheers
Hi Batch. Would you be so kind to tell me what model is your diver watch? Looks quite nice:D
Looks like an Omega Seamaster 300m.
How is it more sensible than an Octavia Estate?
I prefer this car a lot lol
Those white lines on the doors and glovebox are ambient lights?
yup!
Great Video Review. The Volkswagen Golf Estate Is a great looking car
We are delighted with ours. Our other car is a 2001 Passat estate/wagon.
Namastey CarBuyer, I have gone through a youtube video nearly a year back. I am not memorizing the car but it have heated steering wheel, gear knob, door handles & seats. Also equipped with adaptive headlights & shockers, it have 100% LED and the company claims that not a single bulb have been used. I believe you know the model or the series. Thank you.
Excellent review James.
Btw where is ginny? We won't mind if she does a few reviews.
No it's not a review, what on earth was balanced? Where was the critique?? This is a paid advert you imbecile.
How do you stay thin eating all those crisps?
I want to know how he sleeps at night knowing he has to lie to us, bend over and take it from the Volkswagen money man?
😂😂
There are many cars in the same price range which have hard plastics on rear doors but nobody cares or mention about that.
Carwow is soon gonna pass your sub counts and that's a good thing since it's a much better, less fussy channel.
Well, Carwow is now far ahead
ngl, i thought this was carwow
I love his chanel
What's the name of this color?
Why only 5gears? Is 6 better?
Nice car
Can you you turn this to 6 passenger car? Can you mount the seets in the back?
The seats don’t go flat as they used to
Sensible as broccoli. Only the cauliflower corolla hybrid can match
35 grand for a plain Golf estate??? Who is going to pay that?
For that price you could get a mid range Peugeot 5008 where I live and cars are way more expensive here than the uk.
There is a reason for that, you know... Nobody is so fool to buy an expensive car if there are no benefits. The competition is tight. Why I would spend money on a VAG car instead of a japanese one? Just an example: the plastics in Mazda 6 are cheaper than what you find in a Golf. For example mazda 6 interior vs Skoda Octavia (that is cheaper than a golf): "However, when you compare the interiors, the Skoda claws back a lot of ground, with the Octavia’s cabin beating the ‘6’ on almost every level. For us, the Skoda feels a lot more user friendly, with a modern design and easy to read dials. In comparison, the Mazda feels dated, with small LED displays and an abundance of cheap plastics." Source : www.honestjohn.co.uk/our-cars/skoda-octavia/skoda-octavia-v-mazda-6/ . So there are Pro and Cons for each car, depending on what are you looking for.
Other seems plenty of clueless mugs do pay it....... For this boring thing.
Boring for "you". Some people prefer plain and simple.
Christopher Martin me. I only keep a car for 2 years. Never have to worry about warranty issues.
VW of America has killed off the Golf Sportwagen in the US, effective Model Year 2020. Still available in Europe and UK?
yup
@@aquilinorodrigo European and UK car buyers are much smarter than their North American counterparts. Sad.
so there i was looking into the abyss thats the golf boot to be told it foldsflat when you put the back seats down hmm i was sure it wasnt flat so why not say nearly fat cos thats wot it is cheers xx
Golf R estate is probably the perfect daily.
Nat Topps if you are a semi successful council estate drug dealer.
@@-DC- what a stupid comment.
@@-DC- What a brilliant comment.
Man do you guys in the UK get screwed price wise. I paid 37,000 CDN for a fully loaded VW golf Alltrack, 1.8l Trbo. A blast to drive.
I also have a 1.8 and it's awesome with the Sportwagon.
27k US in 2015.
Please do a review of the Fiat Doblo Trekking. Thanks!!
The gold is boring but it’s a solid choice
Take a look on its sister Seat Leon Estate
Carwow > Carbuyer
CHHHHHIIIPPPSS!
For that money you could get a Golf R.
Not everyone likes those R-models, they are not that nice to have as a daily driver.
If I extend your theory, then Mercedes should be able to charge you premium AMG spec prices on their normal models since AMG 600hp versions are not that nice to have as a daily driver in comparison to the lower model car. Same goes for supercars and what not...
Sherukka Yeah whatever...
@@Sherukka they are
Why are all cars nowdays so fricking expensive in thr UK now?...
Even the most beige of motors has a starting price of £25k!..
£30k+ for that!?..
Either Im getting old, manufacturers are taking the mick or people are just plain daft for paying a mortgage deposit for 4 wheels nowdays
Coreyjames we can all say thank you to our "strong and stable" prime minister... RIP British £ ...
it costs more than some mid class cars from competitors...
VAG cars in my opinion are not that reliable. My Passat engjne failed at only 18,000 miles due to an oil drive defect. The fuel pump was recalled, the electronic handbrake failed three times!
Skoda Octavia or SEAT Leon ST
seat
Insane price..
4:07 Completely flat? 🤔😂 mmmh no... 4:12
I laugh so hard when he sad volkswagen at 0:04 😂😂😂😂😂
Has anyone sees genny buckly?last seen on 10.3.17
This is an advert, not a review.
Very disappointed with my Golf Variant 2016. High beam headlights not working (a software problem they said), they have to change the water pump for overheating problems, the coolant/antifreeze signal was not working properly… 8 visits to vw official service in 1.5 years and 25.000 km… I wish I had kept my old vw Golf and I think this one will be my last vw.
Lol skill issue
I think we should learn to say it properly: Volkswagen read like Folks-wagn !
MrVoayer volk off
They charge as much as they do because mugs pay it!
... But what about the emissions? ....
Very original and funny joke.
His hairline is losing the battle
his hair...
The Passat estate is a million times better.
StereotypedFilms exactly more practical much nicer interior and a class above the Golf.
David Richards But that does not make the Golf a bad car, does it?
Der Ossi no not at all I mean it does have a cheaper price tag if you can't afford the Passat.
David Richards I have a Golf VII Variant (Estate) BlueMotion because of the amazing fuel economy. Our german cars are the best. :)
Der Ossi certainly the best for cheating emissions 😂😂
For that money you can get BMW X1
Gcvvv
First
and last 😂😂😂😂
Firas Srour new last.
It costs £34,595.
More space than a 5 series touring??? What??????
I would much rather have a Mazda 6 or a Kia Optima. Imo this is boring.
Car Freak Nah, you call VW's boring, Kia's are a total snooze fest. And Mazda's look blobby and bland and their motors under perform.
Car Freak Why would I even remotely consider a diesel in a passenger car unless it was a larger SUV? Yeah Mazda = a bit blobby I'm afraid
Car Freak yep, I quite liked the "Kodo" design previous gen 3, 6 and CX5 and while the new ones are ok but the current versions seem to have lot their way but the new CX9 is a good looking car.
"I would much rather have a Kia". Sayed no one ever.
dontbothermewithchannels Lots of people do. They back it up with the money they spend.
That's not completely flat folding seats you liar.
I think that VW design is so boring on purpose. Otherwise they would not be perceived as quality products.
The design is timeless and conventional so that it will age better over time.
I'm not so sure that any VAG is aging well. Usually they are just boring. But they are getting better with Arteon. That one looks good.
g00dfeeling Look at the Golf MK4 or an old Phaeton and compare them to other cars from that time. They were called "boring" too, but these things still look good today while the "exciting" looking cars from that time will most likely have aged way worse.
You're right for Golf 4 and Phaeton but look at the other models. Passat CC, each generation of Polo or Passat are just hideous.
g00dfeeling Well I think that the Passat B5.5 (3bg) also looks pretty nice today.
Dull and boring. There are better cars out there
Michael Simpkins Most volkswagens look boring or dull, maybe the new Tiguan is an exemption
I’m thinking of getting this car (2018) in a 2-3 years time, for about 15g euros. Please recommend a better option with similar mpg/boot space/reliability, thanks! Btw I don’t care for sportyness or looks, just to get from a to b
@@millmoormichael6630 A Kia estate. It's good to look at and drive and has a 7 warranty that's transferable.
seem to be stealing a lot of gimmicks from Carwow in this review
Way better then the mk7
Jeff Legitimate15 It is the mk7 facelift.
Cup holders? More like shot holders. Just another plasticky hell of medicority with toxic fumes as a bonus for those (most) who opt for the diesel.
Crap car
...the single most boring car ever made.
Most boring troll ever posted.
NZsarge1 no troll. just the honest truth.
Tea Kay Clearly you don't get out much
Tea Kay have you seen the corsa van?
So you're saying that like a Hyundai Getz, Toyota Corolla or Nissan Pulsar is more interesting than this? 🤔
1:54 Check Engine Light LOL
Ahmad Farhan Sad troll....
Maybe because the engine isn't on?
Der Ossi yes
34 grand gets a Bimmer, not a VW. Overpriced.
"The most sensible car money can buy" yet you call it boring, uncomfortable, has nasty cheap plastic and COSTS WHAT!!!! £34,000.00 "F%!" No thanks, even you realise that is NOT the most sensible car, that would be a VOLVO, which is a nicer looking, safer, classier, bigger car from a company that really cares about people and don't sell cheating, polluting cars.
Del Mac the Volvo is much more expensive and in real world third party tests, Volvo engines have been found to be amongst the dirtiest (FCA the worst, then Nissan-Renault) several times more than VW. In fact, VWs diesels are cleaner than the industry average, but they were amongst the only manufacturers who sold diesels in the U.S.
Dave Travels:- I don't know where you come from, but here in the UK the Volvo V40 is priced from £20,715 to £24,015 however the VW Golf estate ranges from £19,470 to £35,700, so guess your wrong there, no matter what party test, real world or not.
According to the latest "Euro 6" emission standards Volvo is not even listed in the top 17 manufacturers that are the worst polluters.
You are also wrong again about VW being the only ones selling diesel cars in America as BMW also do, as do Ford, GMC, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Mercedes, Nissan & Ram.
You could not be more wrong as VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat diesel engines, as they are so foul and polluting that they give out 20 times the max legal limit, and have been fined, I think, $6 Billion in America and now the German Environmental Agency are after VW/Audi for their deceit, lying and cheating over their "Illegal" polluting diesel engines. You are full of misinformation and plain wrong on everything you say.
I own a Volvo with the D5, 5cyl Diesel engine and I love it!
But we have to stay real here, what Dave wrote is the latest data, I've also read that article. In fact, the least polluting Diesel when it comes to NOx is actually a 2.0tdi Audi A5 (on par with an E220d if I remember correctly) with the new software with 40mg/km (with 80mg/km being the Euro 6 limit).
VAG did fuck up with the cheating but let's stick to the facts
The golf sucks! It's the last car in the world I'd buy!
Yea totally crap. I bought a 1997 Mitsubishi. MUCH better than this golf!
dontbothermewithchannels hope it has NCAP 5 stars.
Tommy Picton And why is that?
Der Ossi because he never had one
They are not reliable boring
I Still have have no Idea why anyone buys estates. They all look ugly compared to sedans and serve no purpose Unless you own a great Dane.
Sam Thomas I still have no idea why anyone buys sedans. They all look ugly compared to estates and serve no purpose unless you like to waste a lot of useful boot space.
Sam Thomas Because they are infinitely more practical? And also, I think that Kombis look better than Sedans, SUVs and Hatchbacks.
Der Ossi totally agree with you
With Dogs, Kids, trips to the garden centre, recycling centre, weekly shopping, etc they are very practical...choosing between one of the crossovers and an Estate Id take the Wagon all day long
VAG cars in my opinion are not that reliable. My Passat engjne failed at only 18,000 miles due to an oil drive defect. The fuel pump was recalled, the electronic handbrake failed three times!
Wow, you say this only because your car's engine failed, right? Well, me and all my relatives own a VAG car. Not a single problem! But I would never say that all VAG cars are reliable. www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/gallery/the-20-best-car-brands-listed/skoda/ The most reliable car brand in that chart is a Skoda BTW.
Urma Ioan I am alright jack then
@@republicanu im trading in my skoda as water pump seal has failed and apparently it's close to the cambelt @73,000mi. the 'slow leaking' coolant has gone onto the cambelt allegedly causing it to 'fatiugue' meaning i have to pay for a new pump/seal and cambelt change, guess what, i'm trading it in for this exact model/spec and colour golf, because i actually wanted a non GTD with the uprated suspension (ok it's 150bhp vs the 178bhp on the gtd but slightly cheaper insurance), i like a firmer ride, but also have a family and husky to consider on a daily basis.
But all VAG cars are pretty decent in general VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat/Lambourghini lol... well they are owned by VAG ;-)
