I happen to have owned both cars for 3 years at the same time. And, I can tell you that the axela is a work horse. Anytime I wanted to travel out of town without worry, I'd pick it. It's not fuel economical, but Im guessing it's because of the cvt gearbox. The golf is very enjoyable to drive and very economical. I'd put the same amount in both cars, but the golf would always out perform the mazda. Golf, no body roll, axela a bit of body roll. The golf is very sensitive with sensors everywhere that would make you worried, the axela will run well until the next time you visit the garage. Unfortunately the geabox died on the axela but I spent quite an amount having it replaced. Quite an amount for a jdm I thought. Honestly with technology advancement in the jdm cars, the price on maintenance for both cars ended up being almost similar. But, if I was to pick one, I'd pick mazda becuase of it's reliabilty and the peace of mind it brings.

What was the issue with the gearbox?
@@kithingajose it started with the reverse gear not working, then the drive. When we checked the oil, it had fine grains of steel. The mech said, 'chuma zilikuwa zinakulana'.
This camera man of urs baana...when we talkng about space kwa spare wheel,we want to see that!!!! When we talk about the power output points at the back, we want to see what we r hearing baana.....ni hayo tu kwa sasa
Superb work as usual “with a CK”. Never owned a Mazda, but currently have a Golf MK6 1.4 TSI as my daily drive. Economical bila kifani. The DSG is out of this world, even compared to my other ride (the make is associated with flatbed by those who mock us). Service parts are more costly than Japanese but the service interval is longer, so not too bad if you calculate your cost per km. Done 28,000km on it and so far so good.
I have been driving a Golf Variant Mk6 since 2016 and I got one with a turbo and supercharger and 7 speed DSG. Sema beast mode. Great car on the highway, consumption is good and the handling is amazing. You can drive for 500KM without feeling all tired. The golden rule, take care of the car. Get good parts and maintain it well. I would buy VW of this type anytime, Japan sirudi :)

Talk about the DSG my guy. Its fast, responsive and good to drive. You fell it shift like a manual, awesome piece of engineering. For lack of better words, the tech is years ahead of most everyday kenyan driver. A detailed carnversation on DSG will demistify and educate a lot of us out here on how to enjoy such wonderful engineering
I love VW so much to the extent ukisema any downside naskia nikama unaongea chinese, siskii kitu...have had my golf for 6yrs now. Just normal service and tire change after a few years

Y'all people should drive this Golf variant TSI 1400cc. Top speed 260kmphr . You'll definitely buy one after test driving it. On my trip from mombasa to Nairobi no car overtook me. This MOTI is a beast.
these german machines are good, the superior engineering is its downside, if one is keen with who touches it and what one fits in it life is good on the german side
@@edmundkombe5173 Absolutely true. Not everyone can handle this car. Again, its spine is good quality engine oil ,coolant , and original spark plugs. Not forgetting that its always good to be cautious while driving. Safety must come first.
Sure, I own Vw golf Variant R-Line. The only cars you can compete with on the road are Benzs and....maybe Subaru(not any Subaru though)

Awesome content bro. I feel it would have been ideal to compare the Axela with other Hatchbacks like the Auris and Golf (not the variant). The variant would make would make an ideal head to head with the Toy Fielder.

I have this variant and it has been running great for the past 6 months! I would highly recommend to those who are looking for a good driving experience, great fuel consumption, comfortability and practicality. As regards reliability, I think it just needs good care in terms of service and you won't regret it.

Hii golf ni 1200cc comfortline (the lowest spec vw golf there is). You can tell by the all silver TSI badge and the silver finish on the center console. But it does compare to the Axela you have there which is also the lowest spec of the Axela.

European machines deserve mechanics who know why they went to school. Dont try it with those road side "know it all mechanics". Yes, over 1600cc is the way to go. This car will serve you. I love it and my love aint droppin; soon

Interesting comparison, perhaps Golf Variant would do with Mazda Atenza estate/wagon? great review, going into the details.......a kind request, if you ever get a hold of Honda Accord 2.0T , kindly do a head to head with the Subie Legacy DIT, the 2.0T is a sleeper, though not common in Kenya

Tunajua hupendi nissan, but kindly review the Nissan Skyline. This is one nissan car that is out of this world- performance n comfort!
I own a car with DSG and I must say, the gear box reliability issue is caused by poor maintenance by the owners...only for them to come to complain that the gearbox are unreliable...also with the 2013/14 audi/vw they have resolved a lot of the issues coming from the mechatronics faults....

If you buy VW/Audi just re-build the mechatronics to avoid failures. Gives you 5 yrs guarantee

I have variant MK5 the way that thing shifts gears with DSG .. you hardly hear the shifts. space is great. Fielder would lose against the golf variant with the way Toyota doesn't give anything a premium feel. I agree with the steering - it is super light on golf.

This is an unfair comparison in terms of practicality. The Axela is a hatchback while the Golf Variant is a station wagon. Of course wagons have bigger boot size and better leg space

There is a reason Europeans make such unreliable cars with nice plastics and comfortable seats there are so many car reviewers in Europe with very sharp tongues and the car manufacturers try to please all of them in the end the customers end up with very unreliable cars.

It depends on what the original buyer chose. Everything costs money, so some people don't see the need for keyless entry

Nauwache kuingilia probox..the most reliable car for hustlers 😜
Not just hustlers, probox is a properly built car and does what it was meant to do with so much ease. It's won the practical car of the year when it first came out of the factory
The axela is a hatchback while the atenza is a station wagon, which is a better comparison to the variant, especially in practicality.

That Golf is 1.2 Turbo not 1.4. Has issues with misfire cz of small powerful engine. Best reliable Golf is 1.4 CAXA engine (Turbo not Supercharged) or 2ltr GTI. 1.4 ltr Turbo & Supercharged has engine issues; pistons failure. Nice review
Thought I was the only one who was questioning the correctness of the engine mentioned in the review. The seats and interior show this is the base version with 1.2 Turbo (3 Cylinders) not the 1.4 Turbo (4 Cylinders)

You hit it right,, 1.4 CAXA very reliable and takes anything ..3yrs down the line and all I do is minor service..In my opinion comparing the variant with a fielder is dire insult and lack of respect to brand VW 😂😂😂
