I agree to some extent with you.The reason Kenyans and other countries rate Toyota highly "overrated" in your own words is resale value & reliability. My colleagues bought an allion in 2015 for 1.2 and has never visited a mechanic..the car has never had issues...sold it last year for 800k....

Nimecatch feelings hapo kwa Arsenal 😔 (sawa tu) It is videos like this that are helpful to break conventional beliefs...and help us focus on overall cost/benefit of especially "unknown" models.... Thank you for the information.
I applaud your rating approach but terms like "overrated" mean that you are comparing. Merely comparing used car prices is not really informative because people are trying to make a judgement about the whole package including reliability, spares availability, resale value (and therefore depreciation), etc. Can I suggest that you can do another video in which you compare several different attributes and that way get the true "best value for money." True we don't have a company like Warranty Direct with its objective reliability ratings but there are proxies; no of ads for particular makes on sites like Cheki (indicative of demand), no of complaints on various chats about particular cars, dealers, insurers, AA of Kenya purchase data, and possibly KRA as well. It's a lot of work I know, and I'm not paying the bill. I enjoy watching your videos. Keep it up Erick!
Overrated is meaning their practicability, price, usability and appeal. Car prices in Kenya are just driven by the importation ban and not necessarily market forces.
Great content and good input for new car users but as a car user you can't say a car is overrated by using price only. Price is more a factor of forces of demand and supply..there is reliability, there is car use and the list goes on
Brilliant review as always and quite commendable how you throw in those alternative preferences. Could you kindly do a review on Audis, specifically Audi A3 and A4. Thank you.
Wokabi, I am a great fun of your review but this, I tend to differ. When you say a car is overrated, what do you use as a benchmark? Price only can't be the base because it has a driving force called demand which is also subject to other qualities. To me a good scores list would be a determinant.
Good point. Walk kirinyaga road looking for brake pads for that Volvo. Or a malfunctioning throttle. A car should be ranked based on maintenance cost not purchase value.
As important as other things go, car spares play a major role in car choice for buyers. Tbh cars like the pre-2006 fielders have way cheaper spares than the post-2006 models and that's enough reason for buyers to go for the such kama hiyo ya mataa ya boot... It has the fielder reliability, durability, status and passenger & boot capacity, yet with cheaper maintenance upsets. Spares are also quite cheap for Toyotas compared to other cars in the same class and year band. One thing with car maintenance is that sometimes you have to cough out cash for spares you didn't anticipate to purchase at that time - so the cheaper they are, the fairer it is to the owner.

Toyotas are indeed the leading car brand globally, but, isn't it an oxymoron to say, "Toyotas are reliable", yet at the same time say, "and I buy them at the expensive price tag because you can find parts easily and there are mechanics to fix your car almost anywhere"? If a car is reliable, why the need to anticipate replacing parts frequently and having a mechanic at your beck and call? One big beef I have about Toyotas is they are absolutely uncomfortable, especially for long journeys. Chances of death or serious injury in a Toyota are much higher than even cars like Subaru or Honda. So, I really don't understand why people love them so much.

Seems there is a lot of misinformation about the golf and VW in general, I own a 1.4 TSI (0 lights on dashboard btw) and I dare you Eric to get a VW for 2 weeks then give us a review, because I think you can correct the misinformation in the society.
There are several versions of the 1.4l TSI. The EA111 1.4L that is both turbocharged and supercharged is the one with issues and was dropped in 2012 in favour of the EA211 1.4 TSI turbocharged only. Both the 1.4 TSI EA111 and EA211 Turbocharged only found in the MK6 and MK7 respectively are very reliable
Lol, it's all about "status" in Kenya. I'd drive a Vitz to that biz meeting any day. It's NOT what you drive, it's what you bring to the meeting and you aren't there to sell cars..
When you drive on kenyan roads the ultimate yardstick is reliability, basically it's unrealistic to compare Toyota with German cars regardless of their year of manufacture
Since you have partly used price as a factor, you should also add whether the "overpricing" is due to the taxes KRA impose or its the car dealers' margins that are high. For instance, how much does it cost for say a 2015 auris if I import Vs purchasing from a dealer. It could just be that the taxman is imposing more on popular models.

@@CARNVERSATIONS Now I get you kkkk
Hahaha same here, he mentioned golf i choked major 😂😂

I know if you have money ??its not a crime to own a nice car??
@@dtwach6820 I whole heartedly agree, just don't be condescending .
If I didn't know better I would say you have a personal vendetta against Toyotas.
When you drive on kenyan roads the ultimate yardstick is reliability, basically it's unrealistic to compare Toyota with German cars regardless of their year of manufacture
Thanks for this,my first car will be a slightly old Mercedes Benz
He has eliminated every car I was considering.
Hi I am trying to decide between Mitsubishi Fuso FI and Isuzu FRR and still can't make up my mind.
Kindly review the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV Hybrid.
😂 bro, what about the Pro box there? I love them
Kwanza ukienda and custom it
