    I love your tutorials. You’re really one of the best - very articulate and know what to say and what not to say when demonstrating in each of your tutorials. I want to thank you for this Tree Table Runner… I love this easy design. I did change it up a bit. I eliminated the border and made the bottom row have a tree stump instead. I also did (for the first time) free-motion stenciling on the “lighter fabric” parts of the runner (used a Christmas Bulb stencil), and did echoing and stitching in the ditch within the trees (which looks great on the back side too). It was fun creating. Although... I think the next tutorial will need to be on how to (or easier way to) hide the knots on the back side of quilts when machine quilting!!! Can you help with that? Anyway, thanks again. Great pattern and tutorial!

    I'm just now seeing this and it's super pretty. Thank you for sharing.
    Also another tip to get your patchwork blocks even more flat is to swirl the seams in the back if you have the chance to.
    Example a 4 patch block....clip the vertical connecting thread in the center and swirl the seams clockwise and press the middle seam open creating a mini 4 patch seam.
    This will make any block lay much more flat. And you can use this method with any seam of a patchwork block. It's also great for windmill fans and you wont have that giant lump in the middle if you swirl your seams 😁😁
    This may be an extra step but your long arm quilter will be happy and it makes it much easier to hand quilt an all over pattern as well....
    Happy quilting you guys and God bless

    I know this is rather late in the game, but I have to ask why would you cut so many 2-1/2” squares? I would think that if you add that measurement to each rectangle, you would save soo many steps and just sew one seam per row! Am I missing something? Wish I realized this before cutting all the fabric!! And the light fabric shows each pieced seam. You did a great job blending it into the quilting!!!! Beautiful table runner...

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  3 года назад

      Great question! Ha! If you stitch and flip longer segments it’s very easy for your rows to go wonky. So the pattern has you piece smaller segments to keep everything straight 🙂 - Yajaira

    Thank you for your tutorials. I immediately fell in love with pattern and had to make it. I’m a new quilter, and this is only my second project. After quilting it, my edges are somewhat ruffled. While it’s not very bad, it’s definitely not as smooth and flat as before I started quilting it. Is this normal, and could you give me some tips on how to avoid this from happening in the future? Thank you.

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  4 года назад +1

      It could be that the tension on your machine isn't quite right, which could cause that rippling. It's not normal for the edges to look like that, so it is most likely a setting on your machine. Play with the stitch length and tension and test on scrap fabric until it stops doing that. - Morgan

    Fun pattern. I can see trees set hospital to each other and it becomes a fun wall hanging. About the only thing is, I was getting nervous seeing an exposed blade as you are maneuvering the rulers, fabric, talking with your hands.

    I love this pattern and I have learned so much from the video. Big question at the 15:00 mark on the video time line the left hand block is ironed and flipped over on one point is missing. There was not enough white fabric to keep it from getting that way. I thought of this a lot and also when the bigger blocks are put together the points are right at the edge. How do you get around this problem? You must have rigged something out because at the end the point is back, but doesn't help the other points when the blocks are joined. Love the look I just want to know how to solve the problem.

      @ShabbyFabrics  3 года назад

      The "stitch and flip" method is being used in this video! If you feel that you are losing your points, be careful to use a precise 1/4" seam allowance on all seams and pin! - Yajaira

    Thanks you SF for another great tutorial and pattern.
    With using the corner clipper I really don't see the value in having to add an extra seam in the background color, not to mention reducing the fiddly small cuts. Besides efficiency, my perception is this would also be a cleaner/neater look to the finished item.
    Can anyone provide an influencing purpose NOT to add the length to the background strip?

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  5 лет назад +1

      You can certainly use a solid strip for the background color if you'd like. We used the free pattern generously written and provided for our viewers by Moda and it makes a beautiful runner. We encourage creativity and of course you can modify this pattern to your heart's content! Thank you so much for watching, we would love to hear how it goes! - Morgan

      Did you see the comment from Jane on another comment on this video? She says,
      "If you are referring to the "extra" seam between the small white stitch-and-flip square unit and the white strip, then yes, that seam could be avoided by simply cutting the white strips 5" longer and placing one white strip right sides together with a colored strip (green) and then cutting one of the narrow ends of both at a 45 degree angle at the same time and then sewing them together along the angled end. Then press the two strips away from each other. Then you could add another colored (red) strip on the other end of the white strip strips with right sides together in the same manner. Then add another white and then another green strip, ending up with one long strip that extends all the way across the table runner. You would have to be particularly careful of the correct length of the strips and also the direction that you cut the angles on the ends of the strips to make sure that they are going in the correct direction after the pieces are sewn together. It could get very confusing so use a photo of the table runner to make sure that the angles are cut in the correct directions. Doing it the way the pattern directs, just makes it less confusing and more precise. The seams down the center of the trees is just to make the trees more scrappy."
      Hope that helps! :) - Morgan

      I was just about to write on this very subject. I too can't see any reason not to do it without the seam (and this is what I plan to do) but after much deliberation I wonder if the seam is supposed to look like a candle at the end of each branch. I don't think it works as it is much too subtle but it's the only reason I can think of for making the construction more complicated than it needs to be.

    Why do the fabric requirements call for 3-1/2" strips but inside the pattern, on the cutting chart, you need 2-1/2" strips? What am I missing? Do I need to cut the strips down to 2-1/2"? Seems like a waste of fabric! I bought the kit, (which is now out of stock) so I have a bunch of 3-1/2" strips!
