Teena Marie was very sick and came in anyway...this was recorded on the first take. One of the best voices and duos ever. God rest their souls. RIP RICK & TEENA
No doubt about it, I am not normally a fan of most of Rick James music but this song “Fire and Desire” is hands down the most beautiful song/duet ever written. For me, no other song/duet even comes close and there are a lot of good songs/duets out there I like also but this is the “GOAT”.😅
@@carllattimore8227 I agree 100% because I am not really a Rick James fan. I think of him more as disco. But with this song “ Fire And Desire” he and Teena Marie are on a level all to themselves. For me no other song can touch it as a romantic duel period.
Teena was one of the all-time greats. So many wonderful jams over the years, and the voice of an angel. She definitely had a black soul. Loved her so much. Still do!
Rick James was a super star at this time and Teena was his protege. He taught her how to produce and craft songs. He produce and wrote her early hits and she became a really good producer and song writer in her own right. They are both legends in the music game. Sadly we lost both of these giants may they rest in peace.
Every time I hear Teena now, I'm gonna think Yes Ma'am. So appropriate😃 I will never tire of watching younger folks listen to this for the first time! Like, wait for it (Rick comes in), wait for it (Teena comes in). It's unprecedented in their world and it's a wonder to watch🥰
Brothers used to talk to the ladies in the middle of the song. I still get chills when I hear this song. Even some tears. The older you get the more this song will make you pause and sit back for a moment.
This is simply one of the best ballads ever. Period. Does not get the recognition it deserves, but when it came out I instantly became a Teena Marie fan. Wow. what vocals. And Rick did more than his things.
(lol) This is "delightfully" funny, because for anyone who has never listened to Rick James but only heard about him, listening to "Fire and Desire" is gonna be somewhat of a shock! For Rick James to be so much of a "funkster", "Fire and Desire" proved to be one of the baddest (meaning 'good') slow jams in history! Ashley, you were 'right on it' meaning you received this song exactly the way Rick wrote it - soulfully & sensually. Good reaction.
One of the top 3 Duets (male/female)ever done. I saw both of them sing this song in concert back in the mid 1980’s in Kansas City. They brought the house down.
It brings tears to my eyes listening to them this was the ultimate slow love song when the exes see each other at the house party and have a slow dance for old times sakes lord have mercy RIP rick and TIna they are together again
If any of your parents/grandparents was born before 1970, I guarantee you this song was in the 3-song slow-jam rotation at every house party/club they went to in their teens and beyond....guaranteed.
Yessir! I was 15 when this came out & yes it was top 3 in rotation of love songs at every basement party, & dance. This is a song that you don't hear it you feel it all through your body.
I so LOVE your reaction when Miss Teena came in. We ALL had the same reaction back in the day. Glad you found them Young Lady....Enjoy! We used to call that "Belly Rubbin' Music". Actually referring to slow dancing, and not the other thought. Well...Not initially ... LOL! 😀
I seen them do this song in New York city at Madison Square Garden brass bed on stage 😮😮😮SHHHHH the face you made when rick first started don't feel bad they all were like that lol 😂
This song brought back so many memories, good and bad. But still precious. It took me back to my 19th year of life. The year I joined the Army and began my journey where I met and served with a whole lot of solid dudes. Some of which I lost over the years, to wounds in combat, to terminal illnesses to suicide. then I thought about Rick James and Teena Marie, and how they are both gone now. I won't lie, it brought a tear to my eye. And just listening to the highest level of talent that we will never see or hear again. RIP Teena and Rick, and all my buddies...
Oh I'm so glad I got to see Rick James live so many times this man could sang and performances Solo and with T. Marie was off the chain. Live they would go into overdrive and over time killing it❤💯
I love the fact that you love the music that I grew up on. I was 10 YO when this song came out. I am convinced that I grew up in the best era of music. I enjoy watching you react to REAL MUSIC. You have not scratched the surface of the great music that came out during my era. I could send you so many songs. Enjoy!!!!!!
Rick James is a goat in music. Mary Jane - cold blooded super freak she blew my mind 69 times hard to get ghetto life superstar dance with me The hits go on with Mr Rick James
Ashley, Thank you for respecting the Craft of Great Music! Music is the art of Great Storytelling. May God Bless your Calling to Educate Your Generation on Love!! Keep It Coming
Hahaha, I was waiting for your reaction! Especially when Teena Marie started singing with him! Yes, they named the song appropriately! Every time I hear it the same thing, and I've been listening to it since it first came out. Peace Sis!
This was one of the GREATEST HOUSE PARTY SLOW JAMS❤️😍😉 The middle of the floor was ALWAYS CLEAR😅😉 Now the WALLS😁😁 The Fellas had that area ON LOCK with their LADY when this song came on😂🤣😅
I've been trying to tell young people that the music (meaning the instrumentation, lyrics, and singing) of the 60s, 70s, and 80s can't be touched by anything today. Now there are a few good vocalists who sing to actual instruments. But back in the day (?!) everybody could blow, the lyrics were tight and meaningful, and the music (?!!) the music was skillfully layered. I can listen to songs today from back then and hear some instrument or rhythm that I didn't catch before. Music back in the day was exciting!! And the ballads made people cry! (I saw you holding it in Ashley!😄)
Teena Marie was very sick and came in anyway...this was recorded on the first take. One of the best voices and duos ever. God rest their souls. RIP RICK & TEENA

Truth be told...Rick James was a GENIUS!
NO DOUBT!

Me too…Teena Marie voice!!!
My first concert was Rick James, Teena Marie and Carl Carlton. I was 13. The show was amazing.
Wow!🤯
Teena could sing, dance, play many instruments, write, produce, etc... a female Prince, but could sing way better than ANYONE I've heard in 56 years.
Amen! Loved Lady T. Both gone too soon. RIP 😢
This song is hands down probably the best vocal duets EVER!
UN-DISPUTED
I Agree
Teena was something special one of the few white artists on motown broke barriers
Teena was one of the all-time greats. So many wonderful jams over the years, and the voice of an angel. She definitely had a black soul. Loved her so much. Still do!

I saw him in concert and this man was No Joke. He came ,he saw,he conquered.
This is simply one of the best ballads ever. Period. Does not get the recognition it deserves, but when it came out I instantly became a Teena Marie fan. Wow. what vocals. And Rick did more than his things.
A Classic that transcends time; the Ultimate Dynamic Duo! Although they're gone, They'll Never be Forgotten! RIP 🙏

Ebony Eyes his duet with Smokey Robinson too...😊
One of the top 3 Duets (male/female)ever done. I saw both of them sing this song in concert back in the mid 1980’s in Kansas City. They brought the house down.
I heard this song growing up. I remember being a kid and at my Nana's house, there was always music being played and us kids running around.
Might be the most perfect song ever made
Teena Marie aka Lady T aka Vanilla Child is everything. Trust me please go down the rabbit hole.
Amazing
It brings tears to my eyes listening to them this was the ultimate slow love song when the exes see each other at the house party and have a slow dance for old times sakes lord have mercy RIP rick and TIna they are together again

That's me, and absolutely!! But Teena has even better songs, if you can believe that.
