No doubt about it, I am not normally a fan of most of Rick James music but this song “Fire and Desire” is hands down the most beautiful song/duet ever written. For me, no other song/duet even comes close and there are a lot of good songs/duets out there I like also but this is the “GOAT”.😅

Teena was one of the all-time greats. So many wonderful jams over the years, and the voice of an angel. She definitely had a black soul. Loved her so much. Still do!
Rick James was a super star at this time and Teena was his protege. He taught her how to produce and craft songs. He produce and wrote her early hits and she became a really good producer and song writer in her own right. They are both legends in the music game. Sadly we lost both of these giants may they rest in peace.

I heard this song growing up. I remember being a kid and at my Nana's house, there was always music being played and us kids running around.

This song brought back so many memories, good and bad. But still precious. It took me back to my 19th year of life. The year I joined the Army and began my journey where I met and served with a whole lot of solid dudes. Some of which I lost over the years, to wounds in combat, to terminal illnesses to suicide. then I thought about Rick James and Teena Marie, and how they are both gone now. I won't lie, it brought a tear to my eye. And just listening to the highest level of talent that we will never see or hear again. RIP Teena and Rick, and all my buddies...

I've been trying to tell young people that the music (meaning the instrumentation, lyrics, and singing) of the 60s, 70s, and 80s can't be touched by anything today.
Now there are a few good vocalists who sing to actual instruments. But back in the day (?!) everybody could blow, the lyrics were tight and meaningful, and the music (?!!) the music was skillfully layered.
I can listen to songs today from back then and hear some instrument or rhythm that I didn't catch before.

I saw Rick James and Tina Marie in concert at the Old Capitol Center in Largo Maryland, I must say I've never seen anything like it before or since.
I seen them do this song in New York city at Madison Square Garden brass bed on stage 😮😮😮SHHHHH the face you made when rick first started don't feel bad they all were like that lol 😂
Beautiful Duo
I saw them perform this live in Denver, CO when the song was at its peak. This was obviously before social media so I had no details of the show before concert night. We were all saying ok, Rick HAS to do Fire & Desire, but how do you do it without Teena? We thought that he might have a stand in who was NOT going to measure up. When Rick started the song the arena errupted anyway. Then when Teena's part came up we heard her voice and the arena went bananas. We thought that it was a track playing (Yep, it was perfection) but then Teena walked from behind stage, and it was ON! To this day that is still one of the concerts at the top of my list, and I have seen a lot of concerts!! Not only did they murder that song, Rick James and his band were next level in energy, and execution of some of his biggest hits to that point. It was awesome!
