Just discovered "Scott Grows an Avocado" and binge watched several of your videos...which encouraged me to cut back my two year old avocado which was about 24+ inches tall. It had a grouping of leaves at about 12 inches and then another group of leaves at the top 3-4 inches. I pruned it back leaving only two leaves from the lower grouping of leaves. It was really hard to do since a new set of leaves were just starting to sprout at the top. I'm trusting your expertise, Scott, and will anxiously await the transformation of my beloved avocado tree!
This was just brilliant, a brilliant idea and brilliantly executed. Just loved it, & you chose the perfect music. I swear I audibly gasped when you cut it, but then it went on to become even more beautiful. Well done. ❤❤
Amazing video ❤ loved it I noticed the shoots on my avocado seeds moving too! Day after day, they are in a different position 😂 it's so cool, so cute 🥹
That was awesome ! Judging by this I should have pruned mine a couple times already it’s over a metre high now unpruned, it looks so good I didn’t want to hurt it
Thank you for your kind words! Feel free to share the video around 😀 It was fantastic to be able to capture such a beautiful thing over the course of several months. I'm so pleased you enjoyed it!
There was a moment where I thought I may have mistimed it (it’s better to prune in the spring, I pruned in the autumn) but it pulled through in a timely manner 😂
Awh I love this video! It was so cute! The music fit perfectly! It was so cool seeing it's journey of growing, being pruned, growing, and then potted 💚 Great video my friend!
That was so nice. I'm growing 4 of them now. Very early stage. But tell me why did you cut them when they started growing really well? Why not let them go?
The two young sprouts were moving in opposite directions! Interesting, since they move to follow the light. Then I realized that the shorter one was staying out of the shadow of the taller one. That's why it moved in the opposite direction to the taller one. !! Also interesting that they can move at all since the have no muscles, etc. etc.
Good question! I answer it in more detail here: ruclips.net/video/YzjuN7DQgRs/видео.html Pruning encourages thicker trunks and more leaves. I generally prune my saplings when they get to 25-30cm in height.
I absolutely LOVED this!!! Their little dance moves! The music! The drama! 😂Kudos to you for planning and executing this masterpiece over 5 months! 👏👏I'm so curious as to how long it took for the new branches to come out post-pruning -- based on the length of the segment I'm guessing about 2 weeks? Or was it longer? In any case, this video and your mass(acare)-pruning video encouraged me to prune mine, because I've been scared that with no leaves left it would be unrecoverable. Thank you so much Scott!!
Hey Chelsea! Thanks for all your kind words - it may have been a little longer than two weeks, it was focusing on the roots for almost a week, I would say it was between 3-4 weeks from pruning to when the new growth started to emerge :)
I have a question... My avocado is in soil, it's probably a almost 2 months old since it got a sprout. It's 5 inches tall (growing super fast all the sudden) and it has no leaves??? It looks like a tiny asparagus stick?! Any idea why?
Hi! I liked your video about the little tree! But one question though. When you potted it, why did you put it indoors, not outside. Is it winter? Is it too hot?
I thought pruning was intended to strengthen the tree but it looked like it grew back exactly the same as it was pre-prune in terms of leaf and branch density?
That was phenomenal to be able to watch! But when you cut it as I did know it would start growing back, I don't see any branching. I'm terrified to chop my avocados down because I did one and all I did was start growing out crooked. I still don't see any evidence that cutting it is going to promote numerous branches. HELP?
I've planted 6 avocados from seeds and not one of them has twin shafts like this, what do you do when this happens? surely you don't keep 2 shafts next to each other from the root? beautiful video btw
I'm curious, is there anything one can do to encourage multiple stems coming out of the one seed? Can you tell from looking at the seed which will be more likely to have multiple sprouts?
This is a great question - I've grown plenty of seeds, and I have no idea :P you could try pruning it really low, early - but I don't know what'll happen. Worth a play around with!
This was such a good time lapse, i know it was a sad moment but i lowkey laughed when the sad music came on and you cut it.. i guess i like dark humor 🙃
Your seed is polyembryonic! I have a video in the works about it - it's pretty interesting. The short version is - there are multiple embryos for multiple trees within your seed.
Why is watching growing things so satisfying? It's magical!

Whew!!! Finally a sight of relief after pruning... Gonna prune my seedlings asap...
Hello Scott, I really enjoyed watching your avocado "dance" Thank you.
Great video, I love timelapses with plants, I do them with my carnivorous plants, but not this long... Very nice timelapse, well done!
Thank you, Claus!

Thank you Kathi 💚 it was so fun to capture - I’m really happy with how it turned out!
A love story and a work of art

When you pruned them I went 😱 and then they starting growing again and I went 🙌🏻🙌🏻 such a cool video, thank you so much for capturing this!!!
The emotions!! Thank you Kasey - I loved seeing it grow ☺️💚🥑

I did not see that coming. When you pruned it, I was like 😱 why??? When they started growing again, I knew it would be ok.
Amazing video ❤ loved it
I noticed the shoots on my avocado seeds moving too! Day after day, they are in a different position 😂 it's so cool, so cute 🥹

It looks almost like a cartoon it’s so cool!
Haha, it does! I think it's fascinating to know that plants do a lot of moving (just very slowly!)
So satisfying 😍

There was a moment where I thought I may have mistimed it (it’s better to prune in the spring, I pruned in the autumn) but it pulled through in a timely manner 😂

It’s really amazing
It was so fun to observe!!
Awesome! I subbed!
That was so nice. I'm growing 4 of them now. Very early stage. But tell me why did you cut them when they started growing really well? Why not let them go?
Omg!! When u cut it my heart dropped, what did you do with the ones you cut?

I love this so much!!!
Thanks Bre! It was so fun to capture this lovely thing ☺️🥑
You really did an incredible job capturing it. I love how plants dance as they grow 💚💚

Loved it ❤️
Thank you ☺️🥑💚
Indeed.
So is pruning a must? My tree keeps loosing the 3 leaves before the next 3 are fully grown, is this because I’ve not cut the top yet?
Awesome video!!
But serious question, why did you cut it? Are there benefits to this which help it grow?
Good question! I answer it in more detail here: ruclips.net/video/YzjuN7DQgRs/видео.html
Pruning encourages thicker trunks and more leaves. I generally prune my saplings when they get to 25-30cm in height.
It will stop growing if you dont

Hi! I liked your video about the little tree! But one question though. When you potted it, why did you put it indoors, not outside. Is it winter? Is it too hot?
Yes! You're right - my trees do MUCH better outdoors, but we were going into winter, so I potted it up and left it inside.
Awessomeee!! I've been growing mine since last year, but their growth is so slow, not much root production. Can you share some tips?
Why did you chop off the top of your healthy avocado just to make it grow again?
Hi, do you change water? Magical !
💚👍 Saludos desde España.
I got sad when it got pruned (the sad music didn’t help lol). But then smiled when it started growing again. 🥰
I thought pruning was intended to strengthen the tree but it looked like it grew back exactly the same as it was pre-prune in terms of leaf and branch density?

Knowing that your plant moves around like a disabled alien is pretty cool
I've planted 6 avocados from seeds and not one of them has twin shafts like this, what do you do when this happens? surely you don't keep 2 shafts next to each other from the root?
beautiful video btw
why did u cut them at 2:08?
🥑
Do you put something to the water?
❤️ the music! Ha! Excellent composition. Genius! (Why did you cut the top? What did you do with the cuttings?)
Thank you! Pruning is good for the trees - I go into detail in this video :) ruclips.net/video/4Dg07ZvMfCw/видео.html
I'm curious, is there anything one can do to encourage multiple stems coming out of the one seed? Can you tell from looking at the seed which will be more likely to have multiple sprouts?

What is the purpose of cutting the stem?
Why did you cut it?
How are they growing now? Update?
What type of lighting for the plant were you using?
Nothing fancy. Big window in the room, plus the desk lamp with a standard LED.
Why do you prune? It looks so ugly afterwards? What happens that's so bad if you just don't prune it?
Would love an update on how this little guy is doing!
I......AM GROOT!
I love the internet
This was such a good time lapse, i know it was a sad moment but i lowkey laughed when the sad music came on and you cut it.. i guess i like dark humor 🙃
I'm glad you enjoyed the drama ;) Thanks for watching!
first time planting an avocado. why do i have 4 (and a little one-5 in total) shoots in one seed? just curious 😊 hope someone can answer
Your seed is polyembryonic! I have a video in the works about it - it's pretty interesting. The short version is - there are multiple embryos for multiple trees within your seed.
@@ScottGrowsanAvocadoTree thank you so much!! 😊❤️
Its crazy how a five month old avocado tree dances better than a 14 year old boy (me)😂😂😂🤣
I felt pissed when you cut them back
