    When or how often should you repot an avocado tree planted from seed? I would say 2 times first year, after that 1 time a year, in early spring is a great way to care for it. How do you repot a huge indoor avocado tree? I take on this task in this video. I show you what soil I use, how to get good drainage, and how to keep the roots healthy. It is important to follow these steps, to not get root rot in your avocado.

      Glad I could help :). It is not always good to have too big pot from the start of a young tree. You need very good drainage if the roots are not covering the whole pot, or else water may sit for too long in the soil, and cause rot and other bad stuff. Good luck with your tree! 😊

      I did not prune this tree much at all, I remember I did an early cut to get the dual branch going when the tree was very young. And that major cut on the main stem, nothing else yet. But I have to start to prune it sooner or later I guess, because its about to hit the ceiling soon haha :D And I want it to get more full bushy look rather then tall and thin.

      My grandpa did!!! He had an avocado tree. Avocados wasnt sold here in Sweden when he did it, but he worked at volvo and he got the opportunity to travel to brazil and work there for a year. He took tree avocado seeds home with him. He planted them and people here say its impossible to grow tropical fruits here because of how dark it gets in the winter, but he did it anyways.
      He didnt expect them to get so old, but all of the trees survived in their pots for five years, then one of them died in the winter. But two of them survived and eventually they had flowers and then fruits!!! The trees only had three avocados that ripened, but still!!!! He got fruit after 14 years ahhaha.
      I have a 7 year old avocado tree, and one 2 year old. That 7 desperatly needs to be repotted, but i am so scared to do it because im afraid its gonna die. Its literally like a pet or even a child to me😭😭😭

  • @Greensky02

    The thing about using normal rocks on the bottom of a pot when attempting to avoid root rot is that the water just sits at the bottom beneath the soil and the roots will simply grow down towards the water until they are all sitting in water anyways which totally defeats the purpose of the whole process. This guy used clay though which absorbs tons of water, which means water likely doesn't sit for long on the bottom but rather is transferred back into the soil quicker and the roots won't grow downwards as much.

  • @TinMan445

    • @NordicPlantLover
      @NordicPlantLover  Год назад

      Yes, it is normal 😊. Avocado trees loose their old leaves from previous seasons. Out in the wild, the forest floor is filled with old leaves, which acts like mulch and helps keep the and roots moist.

    hello friend, good job with your plants
    I also grow avocados, but a variety more resistant to cold, I grow Mexico in the north of Spain, this variety resists, up to -8 degrees, that makes it possible that they can be grown outdoors in many places, where other avocados would fail
    where are you?? what minimum do you have?

    You would have to prune the tree if you don't want it to keep growing vertically and maybe promote growth to the sides and and get a bushy avocado.

    • @NordicPlantLover
      @NordicPlantLover  2 года назад +1

      I use soil with added fertilizer, and its good if it has some drainage mixed in. The ones i buy already have that premixed, but you can use coconut husk or perlite if it does not have it :).
      I keep it indoors now last 2 years. It's too big to move now. When it was smaller i had it outside a few months during the summer.

    Har du märkt någon skillnad på vanlig jord o medelhavsjord?

    • @NordicPlantLover
      @NordicPlantLover  2 года назад +1

      Jag tycker inte jorden blir lika soggig med medelhavsjord, det bildas inte lika mycket fungus o sånt på ytan heller om man jämför. Jag tror det minskar risken för root rot då, som avokados råkar ut för relativt lätt. Jag märker ingen skillnad näringsmässigt mot vanlig blomjord heller, så testa att köra med medelhavs om du är sugen :). Bra att du frågade, jag hade nästan glömt bort att jag hade det i min, och inte reflekterat över fördelarna riktigt 😄.

    Question - I have my 3 seedlings. Planted them this summer. They are around 20 cm tall. Is it okay to repot them in spring? I wish my dudes grow up this big. ♥ Also, love the kitties! ♥
    In Serbia I also call them leca and buy them in IKEA :D

    • @NordicPlantLover
      @NordicPlantLover  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hello. It depends how big pot they have now, and how fast they grow. If planted in a small pot, I would repot them when they have maybe 3-4 set of leaves this year, and another time in spring :). I find that repotting often can make them grow bigger faster, BUT, only if they have outgrowed the previous pot, which you see on the roots (root bound). Thank you for watching, and good luck with the avocado dudes! 😎

    • @NordicPlantLover
      @NordicPlantLover  2 года назад +1

      Hello. Good job! :) It's hard to say why he has not branched yet, it might be due to lack of sunlight, or nutrients in the soil maybe (repot time?). But I would not cut off leafs if they are not going bad. The tree will drop bad leafs by itself, and it's a normal process each year.

      I did an early prune to get the dual branch going when the tree was very young. And one major cut on the main stem, when i had to move the tree to a new appartment like 2 years ago, nothing else yet.
      What kind of soil do you use? Maybe it's out of nutrient, because it should not stop growing like that if it has a big pot, and nutrients in the soil. Unless its placed with very low light maybe.
