    After 50 years I finally sprouted my first avocado. It's my understanding it's sterile and won't ever bear fruit, but it's still fun and a pretty houseplant. We named it Groot. Groot is now a good 6ft tall, and I just put Baby Groot, who's about 8" tall, in a pot. WORD TO THE WISE: turns out Groots HATE transplanting. When Big Groot was about 5' tall, my hubby put him in a nice big new fancy pot. He promptly went into horrible shock, wilted, dropped leaves and gave every indication of imminent death. Amazingly, Big Groot got over his fit and is fine now, but my hubby was so distraught and felt so bad, he went and bought me an avocado tree from the local nursery 😆

    I live in the midlands uk. Two advocado seeds that ended up in my compost bin had sprouted, in the centre buried in amongst the compost.
    The root and sprouts are black , the seeds have split. I carefully sratched the surface of thee sprout at the top and it was green and alive under the black surface. I have the both in individual glasses in the kitchen window. I made a baking foil nest /dougnut shape to sit in the top of the glass to support the seed and allow the roots access to the water....Fingers crossed, these obviously wanted to survive.
    Love your channel as does my daughter.... she loves the info and watching you ;)

    With the plastic bottle idea you can always cut around the spout of the bottle before placing the avocado. When the roots spread then you can cut the lighter plastic much easier and remove it from the grown plant because there is no hard and tough plastic to cut.

      Hi! Aloe Vera is a really hardy plant. Just start with a small plant and don't put any manure or fertilizer in potting soil. Once it starts growing, water at long intervals . I mean let the soil dry between watering intervals. It will flourish!

    Thanks for the videos. I planted a commercial Haas avocado seedling in the backyard 25 years ago. Today it's 30 feet tall and produces a tremendous amount of fruit. We've been harvesting since April this year, it still has enough fruit to get us through October and it looks like the new crop will start being ready around February. Anyway, you've inspired me and I'm growing my first from seed. The tap root popped out a few weeks ago and the chute came out this week and is growing fast. Eventually I'll graft on a branch from the parent tree. California

    I transplanted my Avocado seed 3 days ago, I moved it from the glass full of water. The plant had a nice long stem with a few leaves and a long root. It started wilting immediately. I watered it to maintain the soil humid but I want to know, is there anything else I can do to avoid it from wilting more?

  • @markspc1
    @markspc1 4 года назад +14

    Good project. It requires patience.
    Now that avocado tree will take 20 years to produce the first crop so find an adult and fruit producing avocado so you can make a graft.
    After a successful graft you should have the first crop in 2 to 3 years.

    I started planting avocado about 5 months ago, at first the roots started growing realy good but winter came and I didn't know it needed a certain temperature,until 3 weeks ago so I took it indoor and played a light as replacement for sun and heat and it worked roods started re-growing again,however the leaves keep on drying and die and now there is a white thing on the roots even though I clean and replace water once a week ,If you have any advices to solve these problems , I'll be thankful.

      Sounggee Lee it’s probably because you have too much salt in your soil, are the tips starting to brown first and then the whole leaf dies? If so, it’s probably because he doesn’t talk about the sand/mulch/fert mix that avocados need to grow successfully in a container, they don’t like a typical planter soil.
