Thanks for the most important tip for planting an avocado tree. I learnt it the hard way by losing an excellent plant! The top of the soil that the plant comes with must never be inserted beneath the surrounding soil or the plant will die! Now I usually leave about an inch above when planting to compensate for eventual settling in the hole.

Hey Charles, today I received my second order of IV Organic 3 in 1. My first can is white and after I bought it my husband said he would prefer brown or green on our young avocado tree. So I got the green but after applying it to the avocado trunk I'm wishing I bought the brown. Oh well. Regardless, I'm excited to have it protected from our S. Florida summer sun. I also used it on a few other things like passion fruit, and a couple of grafting projects. I'll probably use the white for a leaf spray. I appreciate your advice! :)

I have a young avocado tree growing in a pot in my window. I started it from the pit of one of the best tasting haas avocado's I've ever eaten. Why do I have to graft - I mean why wouldn't this bear fruit one day? Also, my tree is bent towards the morning sun -- should I rotate the pot each day so the tree naturally grows straighter? Or give it a support rod? I never thought about sunburn until I watched your video and would rotating the pot be a good idea to prevent that, until it's large enough to go out in the yard?
Great...thanks a lot. I have two avocado trees and they are dying I dont know what J can do... I guess tgey are burning for tge sun...so I am going to try tbe organic oaint and also I dont know how often shoud I watter my plants I am in florida and now it is spring almost summer.. wgat I should do?

Need some advice I planted a avocado seed and didnt think was going to grow but did I let it grow for maybe 4 to 5 months was very healthy almost 2 feet long.. but it was in a spot I knew had to be moved so one day i dug around it and got it out having to cut some roots that were going pretty deep down but still the seed was still there and some roots so I stuck in a new location and now a week later my poor tree went from being so healthy now looking like its dying... I know It can be normal but now leaves are completely dry and I'm worried because at very top its turning black the tip of the tree but the trunk still is firm but dont want the black to spread should I cut it or just leave it alone??? Thanks for any tips appreciate it
I started an avocado from a seed. It is now about 10 inches tall and a pot I want to transplant it into a bigger pot. I’m wondering though how long would it be for it to start giving me fruit. I read or heard somewhere that it can take up to 15 years that right? Should I just buyHey small avocado tree from a nursery. But I don’t want it to grow too tall and I’m thinking of keeping it in a pot. Any suggestions please

Hey there. I just planted mine in a bigger pot because we r in Canada and I kept it inside for the past year. I grew it from the seed. But now that I planted it in a bigger pot it is not feeling ok. Seems like the plant is gonna faint! What did I do wrong? Probably because I planted it 20 cm deeper?! Do I need to pull it upper to the surface? Can you please help me?!?!
how can i know how much water my plants need per week, i noticed many of them are having some leaves dried up and i started to give them more water...our area is about 35 degrees C and humid...the plants are about two years old ..thanks
Another great video. I heard that it is best to plant an avocado tree in a mound on top of clay soil. Should I skip this step? I live in Northern Cali, Bay area.
Hello Charles! I have a couple questions for you. I tried scrolling down to read the previous posts and didn't see my questions, sorry if it's a repeat! I am curious about the spray bit. You painted on the trunk but sprayed the tree leaves. 1) could you skip "painting" the trunk and just spray the hell out of it with the same leaf spray stuff? I went online to look at the two products and they read fairly similar. Just curious if I could use the spray only. I just picked up a Hass from the local gardening store and I do not see any browning. So I am wondering if I could just be lazy at this point, on a preventive measure. 2) If I am not able to pot it in the ground until I am able to move (a couple of years from now), What would you recommend for dirt/fertilizer and that it will be well drained? I have Perlite and basic potting soils, but I am just curious about the combination for potted soil. Thank you so much!! I just stumbled upon your account. Very to the point and well executed; I subscribed!

Hi Charles, Sri lanka grows avocado, but it has been in the cooler central part of the country. I have a farm in the northern region; the water has heavy calcium residue, fine sandy soil, temperature averaging 90F/32C and maximum 97F/36 C. Can I Plant Avocado here? If so what variety might best suit it? Thank you
Hello Michelle Min, The most heat stress varieties according to gregalder.com/yardposts/heat-tolerance-of-avocado-varieties/ are: Pinkerton, Lamb, and Reed. Many of my friends in Phoenix, Arizona are growing Aravaipa avocados. Let me know what you learn and decide on planting. Charles :-)
hi, thanks for the presentation. am fro Uganda in East Africa... this will go a long way in helping us grow organic. however, if we use composte alone. is it enough. how about the slurry from bio gas digesters. thank you
Hello John Doe, Great to hear from you all the way from East Africa!!! :-) Bio-slurry is an excellent soil conditioner, adds humus, provides plants with both macro and micro nutrients, and enhances the soil’s capacity to retain water. If the bio-slurry is properly prepared, such that the fermentation process kills all disease and pathogens, the product is a safe organic alternative for plants. Let me know if you have any other questions! Charles
Hi, This is Kate, greeting from China. I brought Hass avocado from New Zealand to China 2 years ago. The same problem occurred with my first tree in New Zealand and my second tree in China. The leaves got withered on the top of it, and it was starting with the leaves from the bottom of the tree, (which makes me feel headache). I planted them in the pot inside the room, watering them regularly. Could you please tell me where the problem is?
Hello Sweettravellumkan, I would recommend that you spray the entire plant (leaves, stems and branches) with IV Organic Ready-To-Use Spray (or purchase the can that can be used as a brush on, and then you can make a foliar spray by taking a teaspoon or two of the can product added to a spray bottle of water) to help keep the plant several degrees cooler during these long hot months. Please keep me posted! Charles :-)
Hello 👋 NOT TRUE. One avocado tree is sufficient & all are self pollinators. Having both a Type A & Type B avocado within 30-60 feet of one another will increase fruit yields by 5-20% depending on the research. Let me know if you have any other questions! Charles 🌱👍
Hi Charles, I'm planting a tree up in inland Northern Cali. It will be close to a house and I'll cover it if freezing temps are in the forecast. Like you, we have hard clay soils. Everything I've read online seems to suggest these trees need to be planted in a mound with clay soil as the tap root will get root rot. In this video you don't supplement the soil with cactus soil, sand or anything to amend the native soil. In fact you plant at ground level. What gives, are these other videos being overly cautious?
When you water every other day, or even when you water the plant two more times in that same day, do you always use that fish fertilizer and super thrive formula everytime?
Hi Mr. Charlie, I like your educational videos they are very helpful. I would like to start up avocado farming. Please share what are the all essential minerals for avocado.
Hello s.l.n. Rao, How exciting! Please share pictures and/ or videos with me of your progress to Info@IVOrganics.com! If you use organic fertilizers, you will get a diversity of elements into the soil, while improving the soil structure; compared to chemical fertilizers. The top 3 most important nutrients for plants are Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. The other micro nutrients avocado need in much smaller quantities are: Boron, Zinc, Calcium, Magnesium, Sulfur, Manganese. Keep me posted on your project! :) Charles
IV Organic Thank you very much for providing the great information. surely I'll be posting my progress on avocado farming. Good luck to you and to your team
Hi when planting a Hass Avocodo in a 50 lt container, should I add compost and fertilizer to the container bottom and mix it in the soil a bit? I have heard that it may be too strong for a container since the roots are limmeted to where they can go, and the tree could burn out. on the other hand I want nice fruit and the tree to grow. What's your take?
Hello Beit Shemesh and Beyond, I advise that you use a quality potting soil mix, not just compost. Container plants benefit from having soil that can better absorb water with ingredients such as moss, coconut coir, vermiculite and/ or perlite-- In addition to some compost. The compost will break down offering the plant nutrients over time. Adding organic fertilizer to both the bottom and top of the contain soil is my preference. Additionally, I would only add about 1/2 the recommended amount initially as the plant's roots get established. You can feed your plant with a granular fertilizer 3x per year, Spring, Summer and Fall. If you lessen the recommend amount of feeding by 25-50% you can feed your plants using organic liquid fertilizers (such as fish and kelp-based products) to help offer the plant a more broad spectrum of nutrients. I hope this helps! Good luck and keep me posted on your gardening successes! :-) Charles
Thanks for the quick reply I have a 50 lt bag of quality potting soil mix, it's got a mix of stuff in it. The nursery said it has compost in it. I'm in Israel and this seems like the standard here. Brand is Green. But I also have some compost and and granular fertilizer and was planting on potting the 25 lit in a 50 lt tomorrow, so wanted to know what to put in BEFORE I replant it. If it's a quality potting soil mix can I JUST use that for now? or should I add a bit of the others? thanks
Hello Beit Shemesh and Beyond, You can use your potting soil-- No need to mix any others into it. Some gardeners make the mistake of not using a potting soil. If you have any other questions, please do hesitate to contact me. Charles :-)
Thank you IV organic for your video. I have a two and a half feet tall avocado plant in a pot. I'm in Florida, what is best season to transplant into ground.
Just transplanted in ground this weekend, letting Mother Nature water since it’s been raining every afternoon 😊. We added fertilizer to soil before transplanting. Fingers crossed🤞🏻

When is the right time to trim an avocado tree, I live in Southern California. My tree is about 11 feet high, but I don't know when is the correct time to trim it. Thank you for your help.
Hello Isaak Jananel, My favorite times to prune avocados is mid-spring & summer... to manage all the overgrowth, and make sure the growth is going in the right directions. However, for pruning branches 2 years and older, late winter (after the risk of frost has past) but before the spring bloom, is the best time of the year. Here is a helpful video on avocados, if you have not already seen this: ruclips.net/video/EqiAsy-3RzU/видео.html Keep me posted on your avocado tree care successes! Charles :-)
Can you prune it when new branches are growing up from the old branches ? This year, many avocados grew but they fell off. Only 15 remained and they grow up, what can I do so that they won't fall off ? I will trim or prune it by late winter like you say. I also plant a mango tree and is about 3 feet tall, can I use the IV organic to protect it, it get a lot of sunburn. Thank you for your video. It has been really helpful
Hi brother, I have a couple of seedlings thats 8 ft tall. I also bought 3 trees from Amazon. One being a Pinkerton. Hopefully its genuine. Its 2 years since I got it and its about 3 feet high with a 3 feet canopy. Right now its flowering. Any suggestions on how to care for it. I am a missionary in india
Hello Vaughn Malecki, What, if any, fruit trees do you have growing in your garden? Hope you gained some helpful planting tips from this video? :) Charles
IV Organic None at the moment. I'm doing a cold stratification on apples, pears and peaches right now. If I don't get out of my rental property by the end of summer I'll be putting some in the ground for the home owner to keep. I'm hoping to find a house and start their the more property I can locate the more fruit trees I'll be growing. I also plan to grow Paw Paw and Mulberry as well as a big list of berries. I've got an indoor lemon tree doing amazing and I'm going to start another avocado in my compost this time. Last time suspended in water it never sprouted.
You could try "Lamb Hass" Avocado. They are very similar to Hass avocados only a much, much smaller tree. If you have a sunny area in your house that you can fiddle with the temps and humidity they will suit you fine.
Very productive information. I want to plant avocado trees, but one side of the area es surrounded by eucalyptus trees. So, do I need to cut down those trees to make the sun reach the new avocado plants, or is it not necesary?...another question, is it better to do the graft before or after planting it? Thank You!
Darn hard dirt. Took me an hour to barely do a whole big enough for my avocado. I live east of downtown LA. The digging destroyed me. Now time to recover.
It’s still in a pot and I’m in Florida I have been allowing the plant to adjust to full sun in the pot before planting since it was shaded in a nursery
Although clay retains nutrients well - once that soil is spent it is virutally impossible to get nutrients back into it. Keep in mind there are parts of California with Mammals, even dinosaurs, buried in thick clay that are still preserved to the point of where you can cook thier meat. I'd be interested to see another tree planted along side with no added soil supplements.
I live in So Cal, what will be a good place to buy an Avocado tree, and what do I need to add to the plant so the tree be healthy and happy. Also I have an avocado plant that started from the seed, how long it will take to start producing avocado? Thank you
I live in South Florida zone 10a and wanted to know if the sun burn is only an issue for avacado trees or it applies to other tropical fruit trees like mangos ect.
Hi charles ive seen some videos on youtube that if you add aspirin to 1 gallon of water that helps with shock when the plant is being repotted have you used this method ?
Hello Tom, I have heard the same thing, but have not tried it-- yet. One of the most popular products I have seen being used by the pro's is Superthrive. However, I do not think the product is organic... there is a lot of conflicting information on the benefits of this product. Note, the value of B1 on plants is not as well recognized today for relieving transplant shock, as it was once believed to be 10+ years ago. Maybe you can conduct a mini experiment on the response of transplanted plants to aspirin? :-) Charles

I never thought about sunburn until I watched your video and would rotating the pot be a good idea to prevent that, until it's large enough to go out in the yard?
hahaha i am doing the same thing! I always rotate it but I have 0 knowledge about plants.
does it grow on the place where temperature is higher than 36'celsius

Hi Some people told me to plant avocado on a slope? Pls. Advise. Thank you.
Thanks for any tips appreciate it
When grafting Avocados what Kind of tree does the buddy wood come from? Thank you!
I am hoping you can help. I have pretty much watched every video I can find with regard to my problem: 6-7 year old avocado, Fuerte has never fruited. My neighbors have avocado trees and I live within a few feet of an orchard. Not sure what I am doing wrong. My Santa Rosa plum also has never fruited??? Please help. Thank you so much. I am a big fan of your videos and watch every one. I have also purchased the fertilizer and the white wash.

I live in the country of northern California, doI need gopher basket to plant avocado in the ground?

I just got a Hass avacado tree, ready to plant. Is sand ok to mix in with clay, along with mulch?
Do I still wake it up if I am just putting it in a bigger pot?
Another great video. I heard that it is best to plant an avocado tree in a mound on top of clay soil. Should I skip this step? I live in Northern Cali, Bay area.
Can you give an update video of this tree feb 2019
Got a question regarding the application of the 3-IN-1 paint guard. Is it okay if I paint over a bud that hasn't bloomed yet?
hello i notice on my tree trunk of avocado like white powder dry like eating the tree what i should do and the tree is full of thr fruit and are healty but the problem with trunks of the tree
Thank you
what type of avocado tree handle the heat stress better? Thanks..
Hello Michelle Min,
The most heat stress varieties according to gregalder.com/yardposts/heat-tolerance-of-avocado-varieties/ are:
Pinkerton, Lamb, and Reed. Many of my friends in Phoenix, Arizona are growing Aravaipa avocados. Let me know what you learn and decide on planting. Charles :-)
Reed is the best, followed by Lamb Haas.

Can I plant my avocado tree in the ground now? I live in northern Ca where it’s still in the 100’s
hi, thanks for the presentation. am fro Uganda in East Africa... this will go a long way in helping us grow organic. however, if we use composte alone. is it enough. how about the slurry from bio gas digesters. thank you
Hello John Doe,
Great to hear from you all the way from East Africa!!! :-)
Bio-slurry is an excellent soil conditioner, adds humus, provides plants with both macro and micro nutrients, and enhances the soil’s capacity to retain water. If the bio-slurry is properly prepared, such that the fermentation process kills all disease and pathogens, the product is a safe organic alternative for plants.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

My Bacon Haas in Sacramento drooping from the heat -June-
Hello Sweettravellumkan,
I would recommend that you spray the entire plant (leaves, stems and branches) with IV Organic Ready-To-Use Spray (or purchase the can that can be used as a brush on, and then you can make a foliar spray by taking a teaspoon or two of the can product added to a spray bottle of water) to help keep the plant several degrees cooler during these long hot months. Please keep me posted! Charles :-)
Is it true that when it comes to avocado that you have to plant them in pairs of two?

When you water every other day, or even when you water the plant two more times in that same day, do you always use that fish fertilizer and super thrive formula everytime?
no
So when u stick the stick into the ground does it damage the roots when u stick the stick in the ground?
What is your opinion of GEM avacado breed vs hass for planting in southern california?
Hi Mr. Charlie, I like your educational videos they are very helpful. I would like to start up avocado farming. Please share what are the all essential minerals for avocado.
Hello s.l.n. Rao,
How exciting! :)
Charles
IV Organic Thank you very much for providing the great information. surely I'll be posting my progress on avocado farming.
Good luck to you and to your team
Thank you s.l.n. Rao! Charles :-)
Hello Beit Shemesh and Beyond,
I advise that you use a quality potting soil mix, not just compost. :-)
Charles
Thanks for the quick reply I have a 50 lt bag of quality potting soil mix, it's got a mix of stuff in it. The nursery said it has compost in it. I'm in Israel and this seems like the standard here. Brand is Green. But I also have some compost and and granular fertilizer and was planting on potting the 25 lit in a 50 lt tomorrow, so wanted to know what to put in BEFORE I replant it. If it's a quality potting soil mix can I JUST use that for now? or should I add a bit of the others? thanks
Hello Beit Shemesh and Beyond,
You can use your potting soil-- No need to mix any others into it. Some gardeners make the mistake of not using a potting soil. If you have any other questions, please do hesitate to contact me. Charles :-)
Thank you IV organic for your video. I have a two and a half feet tall avocado plant in a pot. I'm in Florida, what is best season to transplant into ground.
I'm wondering too.
How are your Florida avocados doing? I have a young one in a pot, about to put it in the ground.
Just transplanted in ground this weekend, letting Mother Nature water since it’s been raining every afternoon 😊. We added fertilizer to soil before transplanting. Fingers crossed🤞🏻
@@rosieshere339 Hope it works out! I'm realizing the area I wanted to plant is over septic. I hate losing this chance, but doubting our neighbors would be ok with us planting avocado in front yard

When is the right time to trim an avocado tree, I live in Southern California. My tree is about 11 feet high, but I don't know when is the correct time to trim it. Thank you for your help.
Hello Isaak Jananel,
My favorite times to prune avocados is mid-spring & summer... to manage all the overgrowth, and make sure the growth is going in the right directions.
Early spring, after fear of frost is gone.
I am a missionary in india
i want to see this tree this days
Very nice. Too bad I'll never be outdoor planting an avocado tree here in Michigan.
Hello Vaughn Malecki,
What, if any, fruit trees do you have growing in your garden? Hope you gained some helpful planting tips from this video? :)
Charles
IV Organic None at the moment. I'm doing a cold stratification on apples, pears and peaches right now. If I don't get out of my rental property by the end of summer I'll be putting some in the ground for the home owner to keep. I'm hoping to find a house and start their the more property I can locate the more fruit trees I'll be growing. I also plan to grow Paw Paw and Mulberry as well as a big list of berries. I've got an indoor lemon tree doing amazing and I'm going to start another avocado in my compost this time. Last time suspended in water it never sprouted.
Awesome! Keep me posted Vaughn Malecki! :)
Charles
You could try "Lamb Hass" Avocado. They are very similar to Hass avocados only a much, much smaller tree. If you have a sunny area in your house that you can fiddle with the temps and humidity they will suit you fine.
Very productive information. I want to plant avocado trees, but one side of the area es surrounded by eucalyptus trees. So, do I need to cut down those trees to make the sun reach the new avocado plants, or is it not necesary?...another question, is it better to do the graft before or after planting it? Thank You!
How is this Tree doing 5 years Later?
Darn hard dirt. Took me an hour to barely do a whole big enough for my avocado. I live east of downtown LA. The digging destroyed me. Now time to recover.
Try applying Gypsum to the hard soil I've heard this helps plants establish roots in hard soils.
It’s still in a pot and I’m in Florida I have been allowing the plant to adjust to full sun in the pot before planting since it was shaded in a nursery
"I'm a growing expert"... "Watch me add this compost" (adds mulch! 😂)
I looked into IV organics on Amazon. Whats the difference between the white vs yellow can? And can it be applied to salad greens?
Hi charles ive seen some videos on youtube that if you add aspirin to 1 gallon of water that helps with shock when the plant is being repotted have you used this method ?
Hello Tom,
I have heard the same thing, but have not tried it-- yet. :-)
Charles
Good day sir. I like your work your advice and your skills on working with healthy and clean plants. I have a question and really hope you can help, i have a peach tree orange tree that have plague. And it's been that way for quite some time. I myself Isaiah ask's you with respect for the best advice that can cure the trees from that plague..? Hope to here from you
What is the best temperature for this plant and how many types of varriety .
Any suggestions to help my Avacado tree to flower? It was planted from seed to pot then ground 5 years ago but no flowers, lots of new growth in the leaves but no flowers?
It took a decade to bear fruit if you planted by seed on ground, according to Home Depot. But in pot it will be forever, sorry to say that.
Can you help me identify which avocado tree I have?
Where can I go to find these products or order them? I have a baby avocado tree I grew from a seed that needs to be transferred to soil soon. What type of soil would you recommend? Thanks in advance! 🙂 (I live in a hot and humid climate.)
Thanks. I appreciate the lesson. I hope to plant my tree today.
