I am the parent who took this video. For that, I apologize. I realize how awful my taping skills appear to be. I was seated really far, with a crappy camera, and a bunch of heads in the way. If I even breathed, the damn camera swayed. And no chance for a tripod in the middle of rows of seats. These are "regular" middle-school boys, NOT professional singers. They VOTED on this song, they loved singing it. You can see them trying not to crack up throughout it. This video was taken 6 years prior to its posting. I took it in 2011, during their 6th grade Christmas concert. The conductor is their music teacher and she did an AMAZING job keeping them in line, keeping their enthusiasm, and dealing with their puberty-induced vocal changes. The boys did an amazing job behaving, giving their best, and keeping it together through the concert. BTW, I am amazed (and perplexed) at the number of views this video is getting. It laid dormant for several years, only viewed by immediate family (which was the original intended audience), and all of a sudden, it picked up momentum this year. I am very VERY happy that is making so many people out there happy, and that so many of you are enjoying it! Merry Christmas!

It's creepy to think these boys are all young men now, makes you think what they have become and where they are. Brilliant idea by the director. It’s difficult to get boys at this awkward age to open their mouths to sing. They ALMOST managed to look enthusiastic haha
I wholeheartedly agree with you. The youngsters did a fine job and I hope their instructors and parents let them know it. Just look at all those beautiful faces. It’s so wonderful to see that there are still a few schools left that haven’t terminated their music programs. Growing up I was in the school band all through elementary, high school, college and even went on to play in the armed forces. It’s programs like these who allowed both teachers and students to share their talents. It brought families and friends together to share in the joy of watching their child preform. These are thing things we should be teaching our children who are the future.
I love how this teacher not only had great fun with the students but hopefully they learned about different cultures and musically time signatures. Great job yall.

This is the level of engagement that I think all music teachers aspire to. Wonderful job gentlemen! Hope they all had as much fun in rehearsals as the audience had in going through all these styles!
So did this choir director just show them a bunch of different combos and they dodnt know which ones would be picked because they looked so surprised sometimes. Either way this is genius and I love it.

Haha. Not sure if they could have coped with that. I sing in a “proper” choir and some of the guys still sing the main melody rather than the harmony part they have been taught.
Yeah, NOT gonna happen. These are 6th grade middle-school boys, not professional singers. We're lucky they actually got on stage, they actually sang, and they didn't goof off! Expecting them to harmonize? Nope!

Despite of your uniformed interpretation of this performance, there is a point to it. It gets middle-school boys involved in choir and willing to participate; it presents the opportunity to educate them on various styles of music while employing an already-known piece of music; and it is fun for the boys and for the audience. Obviously, you do not have any idea about teaching middle-schoolers, otherwise you'd not make pointless, stupid comments.

Really? Your comment shows how inexperienced and uneducated you are in regards to middle school education. First of all, the boys VOTED on this arrangement. They loved performing it, and the music teacher capitalized on their enthusiasm and encouraged them to perform. That, in itself, is a win right there. Try getting boys this age to do anything without misbehaving. Second of all, this piece, as simple as it sounds, introduces a variety of musical styles. It is a simple way of incorporating fun into music exploration. You, Erin, should be the one ashamed of yourself, for your thoughtless and insensitive comment. If you did not appreciate this teacher's effort, you should have simply moved on instead of attacking her. We, the parents of these boys, fully appreciate her involvement and musical nurturing.

That's rather sad; the teacher taught the boys six different ways to sing one verse of one simple song so they could all stay fully engaged in it. I dare say it was their very first performance as a boys' choir, so they weren't comfortable, but they absolutely did their best to both sing, and to follow their highly creative teacher. It was an epic performance for so many young boys to do without yet knowing all their voices and voice ranges. They're not pros, they're just learning, and having fun in the meantime!
